just copy & past from connect-utb:

Instructions

1 - Download the .zip file and extract the contents to your desktop. You should have a folder called tmp there now.

2 - Connect your phone to the computer with a mini-USB cable.

3 - copy the tmp folder to your storage root. The tmp should then be located in [internal storage]/tmp Inside the tmp folder is a boot folder. You may put that anywhere or
leave it in tmp.

4 - Disconnect the usb-cable and soft-reset your Touch Diamond.

5 - Open up the file explorer, find the tmp directory and launch haret.exe and click run.

6 - Wait for android to boot up, and enjoy! At the first boot it takes a while before the android boot screen comes up and then the boot screen (with the glowing android) stays up quite long before you get to the boot screen.
Subsequent boots are faster.

Hi everybody

I like to give android a try but I can't even copy all the needed files to the phone. It has no enough space on the internal storage.
Is there a small ROM that I have to install first or can I free the needed space somehow? I need about 55 MB more.

Thanks for the help

both of the replies are 'Internal Storage'.

its 4Gb, so big enough!

the zip file should contain a folder called 'tmp'. This needs to be copied to the Internal Storage route directory. (internal storage/)

Hi

It's me again.
I've managed to copy all the files an I've started the install process. At first everthing looks fine. Even the Android bootup screen appears after a few seconds. But then, the screen turns dark an nothing happens. If I boot the HTC again, Windows Mobile starts.
Do I have to wait longer for the installation to complete?
And is the dark screen normal?
Is it a problem that I didn't insert a SIM card?
I've downloaded the latest image.

Thanks for the help.

I am not sure.. the newapp folder is there with the SSH.apk in it, so if you see the SSH app when in Android, it works.. if not, then it doesnt (in which case, this is most likely due to the fact that the zImage might not work properly with the Diamond). I have a DIAM100 lying around, but Its not on me so will have to wait until tonight to be able to test it myself.

You need to have your SIM Card inserted and your PIN-code lock disabled (You can do this in Windows Mobile)

How to type pin code since there is no keyboard on Diamond ?? :)

As stated a million times in this thread as well as in the Wiki, the PIN-code lock needs to be disabled before booting into Android.

can you tell me how many files and the file structure please as my zip file doesnt extract the corect file structure for some reason

The folder contained in the .zip file (i use WinRAR for extraction), contains 11 files and 2 folders.

why doesnt the zip extract into a tmp folder can someone confirm how many files should be in the zip i only got one when i copy it to internal storage on root i try to click on it i get some error message it wont boot

Download the .zip file from Connect-utb.com to your computer, unzip using WinRAR or similar and you will either see a tmp folder, or a folder called: android-diam100-20090204. If you get a folder called android-diam100-20090204 you need to go in that folder, because there you will find the "tmp" folder, and its ONLY the "tmp" folder that should be copied to your internal storage. Meaning your file structure on your device should be [internal storage]\tmp and not [internal storage]\android-diam100-20090204\tmp

Good luck everyone!

EDIT: Ive attached two screenshots.. The first shows the tmp folder inside the .zip file after I opened it with WinRAR, the second one shows the content of the tmp folder. NOTE: It is the "tmp" folder you should place on your internal storage. I dont know how to explain this any clearer :)

Are you downloading and extracting the .zip file's content on your computer?
Try using WinRAR (which is what you should be using anyways ^^)
What browser are you using to download the file?
Are you using a download manager or similar?
Have you tried downloading the file again?

DIAM100 + zImage-kll:

This kernel works with mtype set to 1805, but hungs with 1910. Working default.txt:set mtype 1805
set kernel zImage-kll
set initrd root.cpiogz
set ramsize 0x6000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set cmdline "root=/dev/ram0 init=/init console=tty0 mem=76M msmsdcc_id=2 imgdevname=/dev/mmcblk0 imgdevnum=0 imgdir=/tmp msmts_calib=0x7a.0x5e.0x35a.0x37f msmvkeyb_toggle=hide"
boot

DIAM100 + zImage.25-jobo:

I can't get this kernel to boot into Android; either with mtype 1805 or 1910:
* mtype 1805: device hungs in hARET when booting Linux with the "Go go go" message.
* mtype 1910: takes me to a the Linux shell (no LEDs working, but vibrates once). Device hungs at "mmcblk0" - just like before.

Current default.txt:# Hungs in WM6:
#set mtype 1805
# Hungs in Linux shell:
set mtype 1910
set kernel zImage.25-jobo
set initrd root.cpiogz
set ramsize 0x6000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set cmdline "root=/dev/ram0 init=/init console=tty0 mem=76M msmsdcc_id=2 imgdevname=/dev/mmcblk0 imgdevnum=0 imgdir=/tmp msmts_calib=0x7a.0x5e.0x35a.0x37f msmvkeyb_toggle=hide"
boot

EDIT: after I played around with mtype + kernel in default.txt and soft-resetting the device a couple of times I can't do anything in Android (android.core errors + "Force close" messages) when starting Android with mtype 1805 and zImage-kll. So it seems the images becamse corrupted?

Hi,
Firstly, thank you for all the work you have put into this. I never expected this to work on a Diamond and I continue to be surprised by your selfless contributions here.
I got the same problem as this guy. Tho I have my SIM in with no PIN code required.
I can get into Android. Have a look around. I disabled the screen timeout.
However, I can't seem to get out of some menus. So I've tried pressing the the 'back' key and the screen fades to black. Nothing I do except hitting reset will get it out of this.
Tried other times and always eventually hit a point where I'm stuck in Android and have to press a key at which point fade to black again.
Any ideas?
Forgive me if this has been answered, cos I couldn't find it.
Many thanks.

I have been testing the builds by lavender.t (wiki page) and c4software (post 1975).
The lavender.t will boot but dive down to any app and you cannot get back as the use of any h/w keys hangs.
c4software just will not boot. It does not mount the internal storage and then cannot mount the system images.
BTW. HARET does not see my device as a DIAM100 but a generic device.

ok here are my testing results so far

1 you cant change the date or time keeps reverting back to default settings
2 when holding down the end call key it powers down but gets frozen have to reset.
3 when the screen timeout shuts the screen you cant wake it up but can have on all the time but this drains battrey great if we can figure this out.
4 the virtual keyboard above the one with the tiny buttons i think to type command promps when you try to move it about it messes the screen up and you cant minimise it,
5 when i make a call the recievers phone rings but nothing can be heard in my earpeace incall volume sound not present,
6 No sound what so ever,
7 No vibration when enabled,
8 wifi does not start when enabled,
7 GPS does not work
8 cant seem to get a data connnection going will try o2 setting and try again,
9 cant get capitals when the shift button is presses when using the main keyboard,
10 cant access the internal storage or phone memory,
11 no mac address,
12 no bluetoothe,

this is all for now hope we can get some of thease things working soon and maybe one day a rom install file to overite the htc rom thease are finding whi;st testing today but great work to even getting it to boot up keep up the great work guys.

So you don't think your latest kernel will work on DIAM100 at all?
What I can say at the moment is that .25 kernels built with htcraphael_defconfig don't boot with MTYPE=1805. I don't know why. It used to work. With MTYPE=1910 the kernel will boot on a Diamond but run into trouble as it thinks it runs on a Raphael. I shall built one with htcdiamond_defconfig and put it online. I only have a Raph100 to test with.

I've started a section on the wiki for working configs (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RaphaelLinux#Configurations)... if others want to flesh out other known working configs...that might be help others.
The interesting columns would be the phone model, msmsdcc_id, imgdevname/num, and maybe good working msmts_calib. The values in the original package are good for Raph100.

i trying some program, but right no its possible to remove it ? program are copy in "/data/app" and we don't have acces to this folder to remove it. :S
If you can telnet into your phone, you're root and you can delete everything (even if you don't intend to). As far as I know, youre not root in Term.apk Alternatively, you could mount the system or data image onto your host and the modify them.

[...] Since the android boots automatic now how are we gonna access the SDCARD(internat storage) because now we can't type "mkdir sdcard", or i don't know how :)
Creating the /sdcard directory won't help. Besides, android creates it on boot. The problem is that it tries to mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 (Which is right for Raphael but not for Diamond. I modified it to do that. Originally it would be correct for Diamond... sorry :D) This is controlled from /system/etc/mountd.conf Maybe a symlink from /mmc to /sdcard would work, but I believe that Android won't believe it's there if it hasn't mounted it itself.

pressing the Diamond's 'back' button kills it...
&
[...] However, I can't seem to get out of some menus. So I've tried pressing the the 'back' key and the screen fades to black. Nothing I do except hitting reset will get it out of this. [...] Forgive me if this has been answered, cos I couldn't find it.
How about a nice hot cup of RTFW! (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RaphaelLinux) (There you will find that you can change the End Button Behaviour in the Spare Parts app, and also how the keys on the navi are mapped for kernels that don't have full navi support.)

[...] the zip file should contain a folder called 'tmp'. This needs to be copied to the Internal Storage route directory.
Since we can now specify the imgdir from the cmdline it doesn't necessarily need to be /tmp anymore, as long as you specify where the images are located.

But this ain't with jobo's latest kernel, so this package shouldn't handle *.app coyping..?
The app copying does not rely on the kernel. It is in the init script on the roof fs image.

ok thank you found it i have got it to boot and it seems to be stuck on a screen oh wait god damm it its its its android its f....... working you are a god well done
The 1st time you boot, it takes a while before the android boot screen comes up and then it takes another while for the home screen to come up. (Not more than 2 or 3 minutes or so though.) Subsequent boots will be faster.

Sorry for the real estate.. hopefully it helps understanding how stuff works.. ..a bit.

Right .. thanks .. switching to .25 branch ... updating some 20000 files ... checked out ... kernel is building ... and building ... and here it is (http://tibook.jb.b4m.com/j0b0/zImage-diam.25-jobo). Diamond config. This image works out well for my DIAM100.

Updated the wiki with hardware differences and configurations (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=RaphaelLinux#Hardwarex20.differ encesx20.andx20.configurations), but I need help to get proper values in there for all sorts of phone models.

Does it merely boot, or do you have working Navi and LEDs? For me (Diam kernel with mtype1805 on a Raph100) the Navi and LEDs don't work.

Hi,
Firstly, thank you for all the work you have put into this.

BTW this is with android-diam100-20090204.zip

Thanks for the kind words! In order to prevent the screen fading to black when hitting the end key, you should go into the "spare apps" application and map the end-key to "Home", so that when you press it, you are thrown back to the home screen. The reason the screen fades to black is that by default, the end key puts the device to sleep, and since we dont have power management up and running yet, this messes things up.

So, use the spare apps program and your problems will be solved :)

Have a nice evening! (Ive been taking the afternoon and evening "off" due to my birthday, but just thought I wanted to answer this one) :)

Kind regards!

Can someone tell me what each grouping of the calibration codes are which in the 'default.txt' because on my Diamond's the screen is flipped so the top is the bottom and bottom is the top. But the right and left are ok.
I have tried setting the calibration during booting but the keyboard isn't working (key turn red but inputs nothing) so I can't boot android.
Thanks a head of time...

EDIT:
Never mind I found the answer on another website... Switched 2nd and 4th grouping.

#developpers.

I'm currently testing somes apps from G1, and the highter resolution of Diam & Raph its really a problem. A lot of apps are made for the resolution of G1.

its can be fine if we can pass a parameters to set the screen resolution on boot?

Untouchab1e
5th February 2009, 08:28 AM
Could you name which apps have problems with the resolution? Those apps are in my opinion poorly developed as Android developing allows for pretty nice resolution neutral designing through .xml, so It would be interessting to see if the popular apps such as ChompSMS, TuneWiki and others have the same problems.

My point being that apps with resolution problems are designed for the G1 and the developer just havent done it properly ;)

c4software

Yep, the problem come from the developpers (some of these don't make there app screen independant). For example pacman.apk (http://rs498.rapidshare.com/files/183956940/pacman.apk).

i prefer an highter resolution but for some case (and for the begining, after i think developpers respect the independant screen resolution) its can be cool to switch the resolution to lower.

I am pretty confident that the decent apps are resolution independant, so I dont think there is a very big problem, and definetly a low priority one ;)

The only problem I am having with the high resolution is the fact that draggin down the notification curtain is significantly more difficult than on my G1 ;)

EDIT: Try Ringdroid (http://code.google.com/p/ringdroid/) ;)

Since we dont have power management working yet, Nothing related to device sleep or power on/off is working yet as we are currently relying on Windows Mobile to do all the initializations before booting into Android.

LEDs doesn't work. Where should the navi work?

Ok, that couldn't have worked, as the Navi driver had never been added to Diamond :o, only to Raphael. (When I say "the Navi works" I mean you can use Home/Send/Left and Back/End/Right separately and the wheel scrolls through menus.) I now replaced the keypad (gpio matrix) driver with the navi driver in board-htcdiamond.c and added maejreps i2c LED chip driver.
When I boot the resulting kernel (replaced same link as before) (http://tibook.jb.b4m.com/j0b0/zImage-diam.25-jobo) with mtype 1805 (on my Raph100) , I have working Navi and LEDs. I guess this will work on a Diamond as well (please confirm).

Did you have network signal before booting Android? Since it all depends on what WinCE does before you boot up Android (meaning that putting your phone in flight mode is not a good idea), it might be the cause as well!

Just curious ;)

Perhaps it would make more sense that someone with a Diamond tries this.
Here is a diff (http://tibook.jb.b4m.com/j0b0/diffs-commits/commit-from-25-git-head-on-090205-to-latest-test-state.diff.txt) against the latest (at time of posting, 090205,16:00,CET) git state of the .25 branch. It looks big but that's because it adds a bunch of new files.

-JoboJust tested the new image out, and noticed the same thing as the others:

* No LED's worked in the Linux shell (don't know how it's supposed to look)
* I was able to boot into Android
* Touchscreen didn't respond to clicks, although I'm able to navigate to a certain point with the hardware buttons
* Also I didn't get any signal in Android, even though I had it in WM6

Update: I'm able to move around the virtual keyboard in the Linux shell. When the Android boot screen shows I can barley move it, and once Android booted the virtual keyboard cannot be moved at all - since the touchscreen doesn't respond to clicks as told earlier...

The previous zImage worked out "better" (depending on what you test ;))

Hi folks,

first of all i'd like to thank you all for the good work, very good job.

On my diam100 the newest build 20090204 with the zImage-diam.25-jobo kernel runs very good and relatively fast.

Her is my default txt:

set mtype 1805
set kernel zImage-diam.25-jobo
set initrd root.cpiogz
set ramsize 0x6000000
set ramaddr 0x10000000
set cmdline "root=/dev/ram0 init=/init console=tty0 mem=76M msmsdcc_id=2 imgdevname=/dev/mmcblk0 imgdevnum=0 imgdir=/tmp msmts_calib=0x7a.0x5e.0x35a.0x37f msmvkeyb_toggle=hide"
boot

The Calibrationstring which is posted on the wiki (msmts_calib=0x81.0x393.0x358.0x7D) isn't working for me (seems all input on the touchscreen is "upside down")

does someone have a tip how to include the mkdir /sdcard on boot, so we could play around with some additional software?

Keep on running!

Thanks

Tested on my HTC Touch Diamond, version 20090204. (Might be a noob question, but I can't find whether mine is a DIAM100 or DIAM500, but I guess the DIAM100, since the features that shoudln't work on the DIAM500 work fine with me...)

- Booting takes longer than before, much longer than the 20090115 build. 20% of the boots it hangs even before it gives the Android booting screen.
- With PIN enabled, I can't login, but that's known
- Nav keys are little messed up: Home doesn't work, it doesn't open a call windows when pressing the green phone button, but does start a call when a number has been selected;
- When clicking the red phone button, OR the Back button, the phone crashes. The screen fades but stayes switched on, and I have to reset the phone to boot Windows again.
- Boot sound is disabled;
- Cannot play any music or ringtones etc. at all.
- When calling somebody, that phone does ring, but when the call is answered, communication is impossible; both sound and microphone do not seem to work
- Internet does not work, nor does the phone differ between 2G, 3G and HSDPA network
- When not using the phone for about 30 seconds, it crashes
- When trying to switch of the phone, the screen locks and hangs, doesn't do anything at all
- The on/off button does not work, and the screen can't be locked/unlocked
- The battery status cannot be read, but in Windows, everytime I boot, the battery power has decreased! It uses a lot of energy!
- In some way, it seems not to remember the date/time... Confusing! xD
- Camera doesn't work since the phone says that an SD card needs to be placed. The phone does not use SD cards, but has 4GB internal storage, but it can't see this somehow.
- The "About Phone" menu button doesn't do anything
- In the terminal, it gives me "{COMMAND}: permission denied", every command, even "who am i"
- The Led lights don't work yet, nor does stylus detecion
- It doesn't recognize a USB cable being plugged in or out
- Bluetooth/WiFi don't work yet

- I have a perfect network range, it's much better than in Windows!
- The layout is perfect; menu's work fine, all graphics are great and don't lag at all
- Selecting menu's and getting back works perfect.
- The start screen works fine, new items can be added and removed to/from the desktop, and app's launch when clicked
- Sending and receiving text messages works fine, though the keyboard seems hard to handle with. It makes up it's own words and T9 can't be switched off. Also the selected area can't be deselected, and when attempting to, it pastes the selected text on to the place you click
- Twisting the screen in the Photo Album works fine, though it can't find any photo's
- Touch screen seems to be working perfect
- The error on boot has been removed, thanks!

And a special one: Snake doesn't work! Aaaaarghhhh xD

So far my review. Hope it's clear :)

Keep up the good work!

Strange the screen doesn't work, for me it does? Try to calibrate it again in Windows, maybe that helps...

Can these problems vary because of the ROM version of the phone?

So, can you fix the file so it will boot under Windows? Or will we have to reset the file to the original :)?

Is bit of a problem... when you boot from a image, the /dev/mmcblk0p1 (windows partition) is mounted on /mmc to get access on the image, and when Android trying to mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 on the sdcard it founds out that it is already mounted and return a error.

in fact you don't have to mount mmc in sdcard folder. Just create it its enought.

I just downloaded the 20090204 build from connect-usb and the initrd

I deleted all the files in my TMP folder and replaced them with the files in the zip file. But some files were missing.

So my question is should i just download an older version to get the initrd.droid.cpio.gz file

Actually .. it will mount but read-only. (No thumbnails for your photos.) The problem is that it tries to mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 which is OK for Raph but not for Diam.
Look in /system/etc/mountd.conf

Just delete your entire old tmp folder and use the one contained in the zip with the newest build from connect-utb. All required files are included

On a different matter, a new version of the HTC Android Configuration Tool has been released!

All current users will get a notification when starting the app informing of the new version available along with a download link.

The update is critical because as it is, the program will likely screw up your default.txt's rather than fix them.

Changelog

*Removed the clear calibration and the option to turn the visual keyboard off (can only hide it or have it on).

*Now only modifies the values changed instead of writing entire new files!

Conclusion being that I have removed a few minor features, but made sure the ones still there work 100%

Use the Config tool to check for newest builds for the Diamond and Raphael, and make adjustments to the build configuration through a userfriendly interface. Many more features planned, but wanted to rush out this update so that I can sleep well tonight knowing people wont wonder why they cant boot android after using the tool ;)

Just did a second download of the 20090204 build with the following content:
/tmp
/tmp/cache.e2img
/tmp/data.e2img
/tmp/system.e2img
/tmp/version.xml
/tmp/.DS_Store
/tmp/boot/.DS_Store
/tmp/boot/default.txt
/tmp/boot/haret18.exe
/tmp/boot/zImage-kll
/tmp/boot/root.cpiogz
/tmp/newapps/SSH.apk

Running the haret18.exe gives me a initrd.droid.cpio not found in /tmp/boot

-Is android port going to work with my USA Sprint HTC Diamond. (it doesn;t use a sim card)??
-On the 20090204 version the screen keeps going crazy.
-The screen is still messed up colors. (no one has mentioned it and it doesn't say it still should in the description)

I noticed, yes :) But it works fine now. The list that I made does stay the same, though, but that's logical.

Edit 1: Is there some kind of fix now to have this "sd card" or "internal storage" on the Diamond activated, so that the camera does work, and that I may use my own files? Or can't it be mounted while Windows uses it, like the Sim Pin?

And how long will it take to get calling activated? Because in my eyes, that's one of th emain functionalities of a phone. The rest are extra's xD

Thing is, calls work, but the speaker and microphone doesnt. In order to get them working, there are a bunch of other low level stuff that needs to be sorted out first. It will take time, but it should be very possible to work out.

I dont belive the camera would work either, since we dont have the drivers for it I think, anyways, its not working and its pretty low priority at the moment :)

Gautje
5th February 2009, 11:40 PM
Haha, ok. The calls do work indeed. but when I start a call, after about 10 seconds, the phone crashes. Might be due to the screen, that switches itself off, since the phone also crashes when it's not used for some time. I disabled screen timeout, and now it doesn't crash. Can't try calling at the moment, since it's quite late.

I cannot be called by the way. When I try calling to my phone, it rings one time (The phone you are yousing) and then automatically switches to voicemail.

I do love the progress! Even in this stage I already love Android =]

Got it up and running on my Sprint Raph800. Nice work everyone!

I did have to change the calibration string in my default.txt as well as setting the msmsdcc_id=3 to get it to boot properly. Colors are still off, but that will happen when it happens I guess. Do we think it's because it's not using harware acceleration, and instead might just be software accelerated? Reminds me of when you don't have your graphics driver installed on your home PC, and you can only get 8 bit color.

I am SO ready to ditch WM it's not even funny. Keep up the good work!

[QUOTE=Untouchab1e;3266673]Since power management isnt working, we cannot wake up the device yet. So to solve your problem (a workaround at least), is to go into settings in Android, then disable the screen timeout. This will make the screen stay on constantly. This will let you explore Android without worrying about the screen timeout!

Good luck ;)

Hi Guys

To mount the SD card in android, this need to be done by android and not at boot time by the kernel (took me about 4 hours to relaise that) android will not reconise it if it is mounted that way and i have no idea why.

I don't know how well it will work for you guys running from the img files but here is how to do it with android installed in an ext2 partition on the internal storage.

my layout is 3gb fat32 - 1gb ext2

all you need to do is edit the mountd.conf in /system/etc at the moment it trys to mount "block_device mmcblk0" this need to be changed to "block_device mmcblk0p1" (my fat partition)... i also modified my initrd/init to include the lines:

mmcdev=/dev/mmcblkp0
mmcdev1=/dev/mmcblkp0p1
mmcdev2=/dev/mmcblkp0p2

mknod ${mmcdev} b 179 0
mknod ${mmcdev1} b 179 1
mknod ${mmcdev2} b 179 2

this will automaticaly mount the card as rw and you'll be able to access it.

if you do not have android installed in a ext2 partition then i doubt the above steps will work..

also if you don't have android installed on a ext2 partition or know how to make a custom initrd this info is easly found on google.
i read this forum a lot but this is my first post as i didn't feel i have had any thing useful to add, and id didn't want to clutter this post more.

i would also like to thank everyone who is working on this project you guys are amazing.

If you are using linux on the host side, you can turn on IP forwarding with :
echo "1" > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward
iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -o eth0 -j MASQUERADE

And put :
setprop net.dns1 208.67.222.222
setprop net.dns2 208.67.220.220
to your init.rc if is not already there, or type it via a telnet client.

I'm new on the board so hello everybody :)
I tried the .zip archive you propose on this link :
http://connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=58&task=viewcategory&catid=5
I have a several lines of errror saying:
init : cannot find '/system/bin/...' disabling ...
And everything stops .
Do you have any idea where it can comes from ???
For information, I have a DIAM100 with SFR (french mvno) default wm 6.1 ROM.

Thank you
Chnapsy

Have you unpacked the contents of the zip to tmp on your sdcard?

chnapsy
8th February 2009, 06:51 PM
Yes I created a /tmp folder on the internal 4GB storage of my diamond.
Did I misunderstood something ?
I just saw an error :
mounting /dev/mmcblk0 on /mmc failed : Invalid argument
I think It's linked to my "cannot find" problem ?
Should I try to modify a device name into my default.txt ?

;3293635']i read it but i didnt understand where can i find this spare part app?

because i do not have any spare parts app and also i watched the video from the guy above me and in opposite to him my visual keyboard is always flashing ^^ so what is wrong with my version?

Have you checked out the apps? (By draggin up the curtain containing the apps?) There you will find a program called "Spare Parts".. Open it and map the "end key" to home.

Good Luck!

Speakers aint working yet, so dont expect to hear much ;)

I think he was just asking if it would be possible to load Android into it's own ROM versus always having to boot it from WM....

I'm sure after everything gets worked out, having an Android ROM for the Diamond will come out and there won't be any need to have WM on there unless you want it for whatever crazy reason.

Actually, there will probably never be a replacement rom. WM does a lot of hardware initialization that, while it could be done in a linux rom, will more than likely deemed too much work to be worth it.

Actually, we need to get hardware initialization going to get a fully working Android port. I believe they have done it with the Vogue. Without inits, you wont be able to put the device to sleep for instance (turn off the screen along with wifi for instance).

So yeah, I believe we could see an Android ROM, but not before the Port is fully done.

Or not before the diamond is a relic.

Look at the Vouge now! It came early 2007 and is already running Android better than the G1 (considering the Android builds are newer and the phone is nicer).

The Android port is done when its done, and I dont think its going to take so very long for key features to come in place, making Android ready for daily usage.

So, what programmers language do I have to study before I can actually develop programs? I mean, I get the basics of UNIX, but can't write too much as in drivers... Any good tuts to start off with? (And I know I won't even get close to become a prof, but it might be just nice to be able to help and write daily Linux programs)

Could you be a bit more specific? For instance, developing applications for Android is done in Java and .xml (for the layout). For drivers and such, assembly is good to know ;)

EDIT: Just to remove all shred of insecurity in how to set up and get Android running, I've posted a video guide here (http://www.connect-utb.com/index.php?option=com_jdownloads&Itemid=58&task=view.download&cid=23)

I am using the latest Diamond build for my sprint Diamond, i copied the files to /Internal Storage/tmp and when i try to boot, i get

mmcbiko: unknown partition table

What am I doing wrong?

nevermind, i rebooted and tried again it booted, though was not usable the touchscreen barely works and none of the hardware keys work. I managed to get a few apps open, but they froze up making me take the back off the phone to pull the battery out so i could reboot.

Glad you got it working. Could you elaborate what you mean with the touchscreen barely working and no hardware keys working? You know that you can map the end key in the "Spare Parts" app in to solve the "fade to black" problem?

Hello

I have a DIAM210 (Japanese S21HT Emobile) phone, and i'm launching Connect-UTB's Android for HTC Touch Diamond Version: 20090204 and I'm having trouble with the hardware buttons.

The only buttons working properly are the volume control, but that's it; the power button does nothing, the left, home, dial and central button appears also to do nothing, only the up and down buttons are working... but wrongly mapped. The up button is mapped as the menu, and the down button is mapped as the back button (or it could be end, i'm not sure).
But the weirdest part of all is that when you pushes any of the buttons on the right of the navi pad (right, end and back buttons) the system appears to get in some kind of infinite loop, the screen picture suddenly fucks up and you have to reset the phone.

Hope you can find the cause, and please tell me if I can help with more information on it.

Didnt even know there was a DIAM210, heh! Anyhow, at least you can map the back button using the Spare Parts application (set the end key to go home instead of power off). As for the other key mappings, I think you just have to live with it for the time being.

Works, boots, Hello Android! Cool! but then I'm asked for my PIN code?
I type it in and the system hangs. Also hangs after 2 min of no activity.

Weird because in WM I've already typed in the PIN Code.
Did i miss anything?

You mean you dont know how, or why cant you remove the PIN-protection?

I know how, but not working for some SIM cards. I uncheck "Require PIN..." without errors but after reset it ask for PIN again. But we can edit initrd and add some commands to enter PIN. Pin can be passed in default.txt file.

if [ grep -c PIN /proc/cmdline = 1]; then echo "$MYPIN" > /dev/tttS0; fi
(^this is only idea)

Hello,

I wrote this message few days ago not hoping for end user support but for a little help as I can contribute this project testing new developpements.
I understand that it is a developer forum and not a support board but concider that common human beings (I mean non developers) can help troubleshooting and improve quality of final software.
I am not developer but GNU/Linux net and sysadmin, I have a quiet good understanding of Linuxes systems troubleshooting. (still have I to boot successfully )
Will it be possible to have a little hand on this as I can move on and start trying to try to contribute ;)

downloaded the one labeled 'new' (Version: 20090204)

unpacked it to my internal storage

i ejected my device from the os

unplugged the cable

reinserted the cable but chose 'activesync'

then open file explorer

navigated to /internal storage/tmp/boot and ran haret18

i clicked run in haret

wait for a while. the first run takes longest

play with android!!!

this worked on my orange touch diamond (the phone thinks its a p3700 but we know its a diam100)

I hope you are aware that myself and many others have spent the last god knows how many pages on this forum helping out the "common human beings" on getting Android running, many of whom ask the same questions over and over so I try my best to help as many as possible.

Follow the step-by-step posted by petay. Also make sure that you place the right folder in the right place (check the video guide at connect-utb.com --> downloads --> other).

That being said, I dont think you will get much out of running Android as it is in terms of development. Right now we are working on getting everything working in .27 that was working in .25.

Hey guys, I just purchased my Diamond last night and I've been playing around with it. Anyway, I would really like to get involved with writing drivers for this to help move it along. I just picked up another laptop (waiting for it to arrive in the mail) that I'm going to load Linux (maybe OSX) on and use it for this awesome project.

My question is, where can I find some information on the MSM chipset? Or is there another program I can use to sniff out the calls being made? I am new at developing drivers for Linux, but I think I'm a pretty fast learner.

Hope to contribute something to this soon.

Thanks for all the hardwork guys!

Glad you got it working. Could you elaborate what you mean with the touchscreen barely working and no hardware keys working? You know that you can map the end key in the "Spare Parts" app in to solve the "fade to black" problem?

I can boot fine, I try opening the "apps" section, I can see the apps, but if i try to click on any of them, there is either no response or the screen is affected up on the opposite side, and the blind folds down. I finally was able to select one app, but it froze up forcing me to reboot again.
