Hi, I am using Greatbal's skin version 1.2 but would like to change the analog clock to that of the Manila 2D which only shows the "clock hand" and the small digital clock display. Anyone can help to advice?

Also my calendar tab's don't seems to show the days of the week as:
M T W T F S S
Instead it shows as follows:
n e d u i t n

Anyone can help me on this? Appreciate!


Try to move the spbmobileshell.txt file to a different location and reset to see if that fixes the calender problem. I am looking into the clock now........let you know in a little while.

For the clock deal:

You need to upload your qa.layouts.dat file, there a ton of variations to that theme. That would probably be the easiest way. Just rename the .dat to .zip and attach. I'm pretty sure I can get it working for you.

BTW do you want the digital clock like mine or like Greatbal's? Mine is on the left with the analog clock off centered.

I agree with you about spb for sure, hopefully after the Manilla 2D craze wears off Greatbal will be back. His skins are always the best IMHO, no offense to other skinners.

Actually I prefer GreatBal's one. I am using layout A and the preference for second tab should be "Calendar" instead of "MRU". Like your weather as well. Can you help to modify it for me? here you can see my qa_layout files.

As for the calendar, I tried moving the spbmobileshell.txt files elsewhere and reset but the problems still exist.

However saw your "Omnia meets Diamond" and quite like it as well. But would be good that it is on layout A and the second tab is Calendar.

As far as the calendar: look in settings, mobile shell, professional, put calendar on auto. If that is not it I am not sure.

As far as contact pages if you are using diamond version 2.0 what are you going to do with the 2 dead tabs?

Hi all. Although I love the color changing backgrounds (Aurora, Diamond) for this great MS2 theme it really bugged me having the plain color background on the today screen so I had a crack at producing my own. Worked out pretty well (TSK's are portrait+landscape, MS2 themes are portrait only). 7 custom Aurora tsk files (WMobile themes) and 3 matching Mobile Shell backgrounds. Check out 'aquamarine' and 'fire' esp :)

Should work with any theme I think, but I ripped the 'qp_bkg_now' file directly from mtkates' greatbal mod (here) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2461500#post2461500). Also included is the Glossy Black Bars.zip (unzip and run on device) that changes the systems base hue for black bars.

Will Great Bals Base Hue color changer work on this in the today screen? IOW match my SPB MS Great Bal Diamond Aurora background color?

I think the qa_layouts.dat and maybe the qp and/or ql_bkg_now.dat is all you have to copy.

Make sure you have the setting on Classic and Analog, my setup will not work on the other because of the digital clock size

Sounds like you have the wrong version of SPB mobile shell. If you click just to the right of it does it work? Are all your other icons lined up correctly? If not then you definitely have the wrong SPB vers.

Hi, i am using MS2.1.2. Everything line up nicely. Only the top left corner icon not working. I just found out that after i install the spb phone suite....all icons not working again (other than the "HOme" icon). Maybe somthing wrong with my phone.

I made some more changes if anyone is interested. Added another MRU below Digital clock. If you look at screenshots the green arrow is MRU1 and the three small white squares are 2,3,4. The little white squares are not visible in the theme, nor are the mru icons. Looks cleaner this way. Green arrow is start menu setup in tools menu. Search this thread if you do not know how to do it. Also added the Samaurize Diamond weather icons this time. Added the Buttons for the speedial pages as well. Here are the screenshots. Credit goes to Greatbal for the theme and Beyond Invisible for the weather icons.

With many thanks to the "skin specialists" for their incredible work, I'd like to make one of my own contributions to this wonderful forum - a 240x240 version of the Manila 2D skin - for the treo lover in all of us!:cool:

I didn't make any gfx mods, just tweaked some xml dat files to make things fit better, so this isn't perfect. Here are some notes on my changes:

NOW - only Analog clock variation was tweaked; removed alarm/missed calls links, but missed calls is already in the main tabs anyway.
WEATHER - removed title and time/status in top bar; used a different gfx dat file for the icons (smaller to fit better) that I got from another skin - can't remember which one or who did it...sorry.
CALENDAR - removed title and shifted things up to allow more room for info.
PROGRAMS - removed title; only room for 2x3 layout due to gfx size - so make sure to select only 6 items in the config screen.
MRU - removed title; this one doesn't look as nice as the others due to gfx size, and I wanted to keep all 12 items - still finger-friendly, despite the bit of overlap on the bottom row.
CONTACT main - kept all 3 (vip/pers/bus), but each with 2x4 layout (could have fit another row if I removed the title and top bars, but wanted the title).
CONTACT detail - removed top bar info and moved contact name there; shifted things up and rearranged a bit; I'm trying to put a button bkg behind the "Open" link, but it still works without one. ;)

I have installed the themes of greatball and mtskates for the HTC TD and have a questions now:
The pictures for the weather (if you press the weather tab the first one) don't change :-( all the times is there "Thunderstorms" even thoug if I press the word oder the pic in the second page the weather change. But in the first page never change the weather and all the times I see only "Thunderstorms". Why?

Hi Guys, I am asking for some serious help. I have a i780 which has been pre-installed with Optus phone crap :mad: and due to this I am unable to use the i780 to it's fullest as you cannot change any setting etc. Now I want to flash the rom back to it's original Samsung rom so as to get rid of this Optus crap and then load on the fantastic HTC stuff that you guys have shown above. Now I am running a vista 32bit PC etc. I NEED HELP AS I HAVE NEVER DONE THIS AND DO NOT WANT TO STUFF IT UP AND END UP WITH A BRICK. HELP ME PLEASE. LEAD ME BY THE HAND.

I'm using the wonderful black theme for spb mobile shell from this thread (thanks to the creator) and was thinking about removing the launcher bar (the tray bar at the bottom holding the main buttons to today/programs/weather...) since I want to use SPB Mobile Shell as pogram launcher mainly.

This sounds really idiotic but I must ask. I just gotten the MOGUL and updated with wm6.1 and bought SPB mobile shell. Saw this theme just had to have it. It seems the NOW screen on the first page I don't see the favorite person and the calender launch menu at the bottom. Also the middle of the screen is a calender rather than the email, sms messages, missed call icon. Am I doing something wrong or are those manilla 2D screen shots rather than the SPB mobile shell screen shots?

Go into the MS setup options & change the now screen from Professional to Classic

I'm really sorry I did that already but it doesn't seem to change anything. It seems the professional and the classic is the same. am I missing a file or doing something wrong? All I did was install SPB, then download the theme pack and unzip everything into the SPB folder in program files under my HTC Mogul.

I don't know if I miss something but in the forum I haven't found a reply to my problem. The diamond theme is awesome but one thing on my glofiish doesn't work (I don't know if it is a problem only for me) when I navigate with my fingers through the pages sliding left or right everything is ok but if I slide inadvertently my fingers up or down the program closes itself and I have to launch the now screen again. It is possible to disable the gestures up and down?if I want to close the program I have a button mapped for this...any ideas is appreciated...:)

Hello, I'm new here. I don't know how to edit this shell much, but if anyone can point me to the right direction, I'd be grateful.

I've just switched Layout C, and I'm loving it so far. The only problem I have is, I want the 6 button programs layout with the recent programs like the default SPB Mobile Shell has. I know the other Layouts have MRU page, but I just want 1 page with the recent programs (and pinned ones) at the top.

The animated gifs are for s2u2, the screen capture was for the today screen s2p and Keith Dupont made a background for spb ms (m2d skin) with it so I could put them together themeing my entire phone the same way. Turned out pretty nice.

This is what I am looking for:

Exactly like the Diamond Theme from Greatbal, but I want only these tabs:
- The first tab to include the HTC TouchPro Clock / Also the same icons as the default theme that are along the top of the screen (Connections).
- The second tab to be strictly a calendar and appointment screen, with the Calendar to be controled via Spb Mobile Shell Options.
- The third tab to be Start Menu, with only My Menu, Programs, Settings, Tools, Messaging, Organizer, Backlight in center.
- The last tab to be Weather, just like the Diamond 2.1 GreatBal Theme.
I would like the navigation to be between the Calendar, the Start Menu, and then back to the Main Now Screen.
- Weather icons to be the 2.1 Diamond Theme/Touch Pro TouchFlo3D
- Highlighting to be the Green, when you are selecting an item.
I would really love it if you could go ahead and make two, one for VGA, and one for QVGA. QVGA is more important, but will soon be getting a VGA device, and would really appreciate being able to have this theme there on that new device, as well.

BTW, Thanks to the Skin Gurus in this area, that make it possible for so many custom themes. I have been trying to pull my weight around with Spb, and get them to support more skinners and make this process easier, but they said in a future release, they plan on adding better skin support.

The animated gifs are for s2u2, the screen capture was for the today screen s2p and Keith Dupont made a background for spb ms (m2d skin) with it so I could put them together themeing my entire phone the same way. Turned out pretty nice.

Ah.. S2U does support fully GIF's, I just never thought of trying it in Spb MS, but thought that it actually had to be in a certain format, to even work properly, with GIF not being that format.

The gif file was used only in s2u2 but the first frame of the gif is the screen capture used for the today screen and the s2p. Keith Dupont made a background file for spb ms for me (qp_bkg_now.dat) using the same screen capture not the gif. Sorry if there was any confusion. When the gif file plays in s2u2 the screen capture is the first frame that you will see. Not a bad view I might say...later.

you're on the right track. You found the mask. :)

just edit the mask and the corresponding bitmap.

to edit the items'locations, you can edit the xml files in qa_layouts.dat, which is the "heart" of the theme. Good luck. :)

Opening .dat and .xml files is as far as i can go with my skills. I would be greatfull if you could advice me which lines in which xml should be edited.

1) Is it possible to make the Default Black Theme color selectable again? I have tried to modify it in Adobe. I need the same layer as in Greatballs MS2.1 Diamond Theme Version 1.2\Optional Files\Color Theme BG\Default Black. This layer is smaller than the Default Black in the newest version. I tried to resize the old layer, but I couldn't. It's not resizeable. Maybe you can tell me how to do that?
2) Is it possible to make the main tab and program icons Glossy again?

1) You have to re-launch Mobile Shell (close/kill using a good TaskManager). Or, better yet, soft reset your device.

2) You can try spbwatcher. Just do a search.

I can probably answer that. It is a Mobile Shell theme that just looks like M2D.

It is for QVGA if I'm not mistaken.....

Last question (I swear :o ), Greatbal's instructions say to drop the extracted files directly into the Mobile Shell directory which forces the original MS files to be overwritten. When I followed this, and after soft resetting, the only result I got was a completely black screen when MS was active. I could 'X' out of it, but MS was really fouled in some way.

Should these files be dropped into the Mobile Shell -> Themes folder instead? Thanks for the help! :)

I have a HTC Cruise, and downloaded these skins for the SPB Shell. They look GREAT!! Everything is running well, except for some minor issues, as the screenshots attached shows. First issue, is my operator name goes over the other icons on the upper bar. So I ask, if it is possible to push my operator name more on the left side, and how to do it? Other issue, is that a parte of an image (I don't know which) is appearing bellow the sound icon. How do I take it off? Is that possible to change program icons, in order they look like those in main shell? If so, where to find them, and how to install'em?

Thanks, but I tried it out over the weekend. Alot of problems with malfunctioning buttons, clock insisted on appearing layered on top of the calendar, non-responsive screen buttons, etc. I'm back to scratch today. :confused:

I installed MS2.1 and extracted the contents of 'Layout A' to my program files > SPB mobile shell, replaced the original files that were there. Soft reset my omnia and found once reloaded the spb menu icon wouldnt work so i presume either it doesnt support omina or theres something im missing out. With many thanks to the "skin specialists" for their incredible work, I'd like to make one of my own contributions to this wonderful forum - a 240x240 version of the Manila 2D skin - for the treo lover in all of us!:cool:

I didn't make any gfx mods, just tweaked some xml dat files to make things fit better, so this isn't perfect. Here are some notes on my changes:

NOW - only Analog clock variation was tweaked; removed alarm/missed calls links, but missed calls is already in the main tabs anyway.
WEATHER - removed title and time/status in top bar; used a different gfx dat file for the icons (smaller to fit better) that I got from another skin - can't remember which one or who did it...sorry.
CALENDAR - removed title and shifted things up to allow more room for info.
PROGRAMS - removed title; only room for 2x3 layout due to gfx size - so make sure to select only 6 items in the config screen.
MRU - removed title; this one doesn't look as nice as the others due to gfx size, and I wanted to keep all 12 items - still finger-friendly, despite the bit of overlap on the bottom row.
CONTACT main - kept all 3 (vip/pers/bus), but each with 2x4 layout (could have fit another row if I removed the title and top bars, but wanted the title).
CONTACT detail - removed top bar info and moved contact name there; shifted things up and rearranged a bit; I'm trying to put a button bkg behind the "Open" link, but it still works without one. ;)

Is it possible that the correct fonts files are not included in your version, which is causing the formatting issues? That wouldn't explain the problems with hardware buttons, but thought it might help to track down the culprits. Nice work, nonetheless. :)

I had a request for 4x3 contacts pages in Layout B-Carousel-Big Weather of greatbal diamond theme.

There is also a picture frame image if you want to frame your pics before adding them to contacts(don't install frame.png to your phone).

I'm using Diamond Theme 1.2 (Layout B) and after installation Layout_B_Carousel_Big_Weather_4X3_Contacts have some errors:

I'm having problems searching for an answer for this but I have the Sprint Touch with the updated ROM and when I try to check Opera in the Internet menu it will not show. I'm thinking maybe the link to it is wrong. Opera 8.65 was included in the new ROM. How can I change the links for Opera, its favorites and history? I tried with the Customize menu option but it does not let you edit the link.

First of all thanks for the great skin greatbal!!..I would like to use the color themes or change the highlighter colors of Mobile Shell but would like to maintain the black bars. I tried importing the registry values as was inatructed using PHM Registry Editor, but when I get to microsoft\Today..there was no mobile shell option so I could not import the values. Could anyone suggest what I could do to fix this because I would love to have those highlights....they would add just enough colour (not too much).

First of all thanks for the great skin greatbal!!..I would like to change the highlighter colors of Mobile Shell but would like to maintain the black bars. I tried importing the registry values as was instructed using PHM Registry Editor, but when I get to microsoft\Today..there was no mobile shell option so I could not import the values. Could you suggest what I could do to fix this because I would love to have those highlights....they would add just enough colour (not too much).

Followed instructions. Copy all the files under the SPB Mobile Shell folder, restarted it. Then I am not able to click on the spb menu on the lower right. How do I change the theme to diamond ?

im using your theme diamond 2.1 and its great but im having issues that when i slide my phone up which i have a htc pc 6800 from alltel the theme dosent fuction correctly the icon dont appear also i click my screen and they wont respond it work perfectly closed assunes i slide my phone the theme dosent work what can i do to resolve this issue?

quick question I installed all teh .dat files and it works well but on the main page in the top left corner there is a word mobile logo and on the right corner the sprint signal leel is over top of the battery signal this is probably an error on my part but i was curious if you knew how to fix it? The only work around that I know of is to always have one unread email in your active account and it will open that account by default. If you have no unread mails it will open outlook by default.

Color Theme Option:

Installing any of the Color Theme compatible background files enables you to change the color background images based on the current color theme. Just go to SPB Menu > Tools > Theme and choose your desired color. Or you can use my BaseHueExpress.exe application (attached below) to change your BaseHue, this enables choosing other colors aside from the one provided by SPB MS.

Note:
a) The Color Theme background files are included in the Optional_Files Folder.
b) Only Default (#1) and Diamond (#3) changes your Today wallpaper with the same image when choosing the theme color from SPB Menu > Tools > Theme .

I've got a question I hope someone could answer for me. I'm using the 1.2 version of this theme, layout B, carousel, modified by me to have only one contact page. I'm seeing a small bug, where clicking on the Programs tab opens the MRU page instead. Where are the settings for the bottom tabs kept so I can track this bug down?
I see that in the qa_layouts.dat file, in the main.xml, tab 2 (programs) and tab 6(mru) both use the same "boundrec" coordinates. I think this may be the source of my trouble, but I'm not sure how to fix it.

edit: I've tried editing the main.xml by swapping the locations of the launcher and mru tabs, and it appears to work in that clicking the tab opens the main programs page, however the underlying problem is still there: clicking the tab still opens the second of the two pages, not the first as I would like it to do.

Does it actually works with HTC touch Diamond... But to say frankly .. the is the coolest phone i've ever seen.

nevermind my earlier question, I decided to drop the mru and go with layout C instead. I would like to note, however, that after installing SPB MS and this theme, my phone no longer drains its battery as fast as it used to. I'm not sure exactly what was changed, but I'm by no means complaining.

I cant seem to understand how to understand this, can anyone give me a little more detailed guide? Im not dumb with either computer or my mobile, I just didnt do anything like this before - so just a little more detailed please :)


I tried to install into the Layout-folder first, didnt work.
Then I pasted to the root of the Spd Mobile Shell folder and overwrote existing files. This changed the theme in some way, but it was all fck'd up. Things were laying on each other, sizes wasnt right and stuff like that. Also it was only the Spd Mobile Shell menu which was changed, as I see to this theme it seems that the original TouchFlo3D should change theme?
And yes, in all these cases I remembered to soft reset.

Also I couldnt see the themes if I went to "settings -> spd mobile shell" to change theme. I was only able to sellect 'professional' and 'classical'.

First of all, many thanks to the amazing work of greatbal. This theme is all his work, I only take credit for converting his wonderful work to VGA.

This was pretty challenging for me, especially since I don't have a VGA phone. I have tested this on my computer using an emulator, I hope it works on your phone.

This version is Layout C with 3 contacts pages. It was made to work on VGA(480x640) screens.

I tried this, and it works brilliant. Just there is one problem, I find the quality of it quite damaged. It seems like lower bit or something like it.

I did not read all the thread, bur it seems to me that the "X" close button on the right bottom of the original mobile shell screen disappeared, on the modded skins. Is that so? How can we close spb mobile shell when we need a little more memory?
My P535 has only 31Mb available and, most of the times, I need at least 28/29Mb free.

SPB 2.1.0 is such an old version now. They are at 3.5 now. I really want to try this. The earliest I could find was 2.1.1 which apparently isn't compatible...

I've looked everywhere for it...anyone have an old copy?
