HTC Diamond & iGO 8 Troubleshoot

iGO 8

For people who have a HTC Diamond and iGO 8 not getting working.

Install procedure:

1. Unrar the content of the archive (2577 & iGO8 folders) into your Internal Storage
2. Start autorun in your phone
3. After starting up the program delete the 2577 folder from Internal Storage

OR

1. Unrar the content of the archive (iGO8 folder) into your Internal Storage
2. Rename application.dat to iGO8.exe
3. Open SYS.TXT file located in your IGO8 directory and edit the following section to it:

;app="Internal Storage/iGO8"

show_exit=1

TO

[folders]
app="Internal Storage/iGO8"

Don't forget to translate "internal storage" in the phone user interface language. For example in french the line:

app="Stockage interne/iGO8"

Upgrade procedure (Not 100% sure if working):

1. Start from scratch, and follow the procedure described initially.
2. The first time it says that an "older version exists in your card, do you want to downgrade?"
3. Press yes.
4. A message appear "a newer version exists on your card. do you want to upgrade?"
5. Press yes.
6. Another message appear "older version exists in your card, do you want to downgrade?"
7. Press NO

Settings for GPS:

Go to Settings - GPS Settings, select Port 4 and Baud Rate 57600 or 4800, don't forget to enable GPS also in the settings

OR

In iGO8 at GPS settings select auto search at right bottom and enable GPS

POI:

I can't see POI in iGO8 even if i have in \content\POI:

If you have POI in the content with extension .kml, it wil not work because its an older version. The newer version of POI is with the extension .poi

Others:

Annoying Tap Sounds: In iGO8 Settings - Sounds -> Key Sounds you can put the button click volume to zero

Backlight Problem: In iGO8 Settings - Device -> Choose the Power Management Backlight Always On

iGO8 shortcut to the Touchflow3D Program list: make a shortcut of iGO8 to windows\start menu\programs and then you can see the icon there when adding a new shortcut in touchflow3D after choosing it:

Simply copy iGO8.exe, go to the folder in which you want to put the shortcut, activate the context menu with a longer press of the stylus on the screen and choose Paste as shortcut.

OR

You can create the shortcut on PC with an Active Sync connection.

Yes, Igo8 run very smoothly, but I found the battery does not last very long...

how much fps does it have while navigating? it seems that most vga devices have trouble with nearly all the navi software for smooth graphics. do you have any screenshots?
btw, battery is problem for every navi, but soon the 1100mah battery is available!!

It running smooth without a problem, only i couldn't test how it works with 3D buildings, i will look when i'm going someday in Amsterdam to watch how well it works, but for now i don't have to complain about it.

Its means or you installed an old version which is not working with Diamond or you're missing some files. Try to install from the beginning...

Did you deselected the Auto Time Correction GPS and Use Auto Time Zone? If yes then change now the Set Time Zone in Paris now.

When I quite IGO the go to the time parameters on the diamond, it shows budapest. If I select Paris and quite, it doesn't ask me to save, when I return It still shows budapest. Now If i reselect Budapest and quite, it asks me to save. Strange hein?

Strange, i had the same, but i fixed right now. In the Time settings change to +2 Minks and save it, then exit the Time settings. Enter again in the settings and change to Paris and save. Now it should works, although it worked for me.....:)

Yeah, probably Nav N Go has blocked Isreal. There is a fix for it, but it's not legal.

Start iGO and then go to Manage -> POI -> if it correct you can select for example Airport, but select first the Edit on the right side and select the distance visibility.

If you did good then you see on the map now.

Is it possible that i have too less memory? in the Storage i have 62.16 mb free and in the program 49.62 mb free, in the storage card ca. 1800Mb free..

Get the 2577 folder
Use autorun
Let Igo INstall
No changings of sysfile.

Try this, delete igo8 from the phone, copy the unpacked folders to storage card (2577 and iGO8), then browse in your phone to the folder 2577 and start autorun.

Because the new version of iGO8 can't read the POI's from last year anymore, that's why you have to use the newer one. I can't say where you can find it because its illegal.

That means, that die Arrow is often beside the street, sometimes even a few meters :(. Also I often have past a street or crossing, and the Arrow isnt there but almost 15 -20 m before this Point. Thats quite annoying :(
Anatoher issue is the uncorrect Value of the altitude. There is no Menue to change the "Geoid", so I get always a value that is 50 meters to high. Do someone know how to fix the problem?

If i play some MP3 and i use iGO there is a bug (for me).
The voice of NAV speak at the same volume sound of the MP3.
There is a setting to make music mute or low level when the NAV speak?

PS: I noticed that the problem shows up if I enable sounds for "Hardware buttons" under the Settings -> Sounds & Notifications screen on windows. Once the Hardware buttons click sound is disabled, there are no clicks produced from the IGO. Strange....

I´ve heard that there must be somewhere a User.upoi that iGo normally creates when you launch the program but my iGo doesn´t create that file and so I can´t see any POI´s.

Do anyone noticed this problem:
IGo is running, then the phone rings and display the answer button. I let the ring stops, and then IGo application is not more running. Same if I am on Igo and I press the Home button. IGo is not on the task bar (right up icon).

The worse was to be able to catch the hardware keycode to know what they are on the diamond...

You should put the poi's in iGO8\content\USERDATA\POI.
the ones with .poi extension don't work for me, you should find poi's with .kml extension.. You can find them here (http://www.poiplaza.com/)

Can someone help me with this.
I installed Igo v8.0.0.41506 and made all the adjustments. With starting up it all the time it reports
* The application failed to start*** want to reset to original settings** If I tick no or yes it makes no difference I will get the message :** Program application database can not be found. please insert original application sd card**

I tried everything (until now 3 hard resets) including different sequence different Igo8 copies and so on.
I changed the sys.txt and application.dat exactly as described (I have a the dutch latest ROM) and entered as above described the description

I also tried wit extra space / capitals and so on.

I really think that the sys.txt file is found by iGO8 because if I enter a other description for my internal memory (eg internal memory) it creates a new folder on my device with the same name. If I enter the (I hope) correct description there is no folder created so it should be the correct one?

- what file is the application database? can I check if it is there?

Has / had someone had this problem also?

Uninstall some of the POI and try. I read somewhere too many POI's will not work.

I have installed iGo8 nicely on my new Diamond but couldnt find any brazilian maps so i'm trying igo myway 2006 now.

Unfortunally i could not make it run. The icons are created after install but when i click on it nothing happens.

Do you have any idea why? The sys.txt and rename trick work with 2006 version too?

But sometimes when i close Igo8, activesync was opened (while running igo8) and stays in the task manager till i close it.
I think active sync isn't necessary to run Igo8 so why is it sometimes started when navigating?

Let me firstly say that i really like the software. My only comparison i have to make that judgment is by using Tom Tom 6. I however am facing serious gripes about its memory usage and wonder whether its just me or am i stuffing something up.
Upon launching the application, it takes up an 30MB from my 55MB free program space. Tom Tom 6 takes up 6+MB upon launch. Is this normal?

I can't get this to run. I've changed the path inside sys.txt, tried renaming the application.dat to iGO.exe and nothing, the loading icon appears for a few seconds but the application doesn't start.

I used the autorun to install it for the first time, but can't find a way to uninstall other than deleting the iGO8 folder inside the internal storage, and I guess this may be leaving some stuff in the registry and that's the cause of my problem.

Any hint? Am I missing something?

Can someone help me with this.
I installed Igo v8.0.0.41506 and made all the adjustments. With starting up it all the time it reports
* The application failed to start*** want to reset to original settings** If I tick no or yes it makes no difference I will get the message :** Program application database can not be found. please insert original application sd card**

I tried everything (until now 3 hard resets) including different sequence different Igo8 copies and so on.
I changed the sys.txt and application.dat exactly as described (I have a the dutch latest ROM) and entered as above described the description

I also tried wit extra space / capitals and so on.

I really think that the sys.txt file is found by iGO8 because if I enter a other description for my internal memory (eg internal memory) it creates a new folder on my device with the same name. If I enter the (I hope) correct description there is no folder created so it should be the correct one?

- what file is the application database? can I check if it is there?

Has / had someone had this problem also?

Yes, you are missing the link to the programm in your

\windows\Start Menue\Programms Folder ;)

Use Total Commander or something similar to create one.

After some more testing i copied the original POI that came with the IGO, it was Israel.poi. After copying i went into manage POI i can see about 3 pages of POIs. But when i goto FIND, POI it shows nothing in there. I guess the POI is for Israel and not UK. I have tried a few different counties POI and none of them work apart from the Israel one. There must be a config file that i need to make changes to in order to see the UK poi file?

Anyone got an answer?

I eventually turned it off because it's really frustrating to get a warning when you drive at the correct speed...

No good. I've tried everything, and have the latest POI for IGO 8 but still can't get anything to show up. I have it in the correct folder and everything. Also have buildings and terrain and the terrain seems to show up...I mean all I see is grass, but I guess that counts as terrain.

If you installed the app (not used the application.dat rename method), I think that I have an advice.Here is my sys.txt start with :
[folders]
app="%My Device%/Program Files/iGO8"

where "My device" is the place that is installed the program,the executable file, not the igo folder containig maps, pois etc.You notice the program files folder, not simply the igo folder.
i am assuming that you have two internal partition, one named .... of 256mb and other " my flash", "flash", etc. of 4 gb.
So.
1. you copy the 2577 and igo8 folder on you internal 4gb storage.
2.you make a soft reset and when the device restarts the autorun will popup, you install the program on the 256 mb partition named ...
3.after installed in sys.txt you replace "my device" with your 256mb partition name, and the path to Igo8.

It works on my PDA.

I have a little problem with charging while using iGO8, when i use it in car and connect it to carcharger(output 1000mAh) the iGOprogram shows its charging(batterybar is blue and full) but in fact its draining the battery, so after some time,depending on how full the battery was when i started navigating,the phone just turns off,battery totally empty. But when its still on before shutdown,i also see the charging light in the round button. so i was thinking that maybe the program uses so much power that the charger cant charge it:confused:
I didnt had this problem when i used TT7. so is this a iGO8 thing???
i had the backlight on system setting and that is max light when connected to charger.
Anybody else experienced this?? or any ideas??

I found a solution to my POI problem on GPS Underground forum. Since I was having the problem, I'm sure other people are having it too. If you have the latest US POIs and can still not see anything, you must add this to sys.txt:

This should get them working. :) and it would be great if this could be added to the first post.

I have had the same problem. The Diamond stops charging when it is too hot. Igo will still show it is charging, but the flashing LED circle will stop. The best way to prevent it is to cool your Diamond (place it in front of an airconditioning-vent).

I have had the same problem on my PDA. What solved this problem for me was to delete one of the folders on the SD card. I do not know the name of the folder for sure, but is was something as saved or custom. In this directory all settings are saved and therefore it does not read your sys.txt file for the correct screen settings.

I have problem with my Diamond rom 1.37.401.3, radio 52.26a.25.09W and iGo version 8.0.0.44366. I cant connect from the iGo to GPS. I already set software port to 4, speed to 57600, auto manage... (I tried all ports with all speed ). When I enable GPS in iGo setting, it tries to connect, but it takes very very long time (10 minutes and more...) and nothing happen. Anybody else experienced this?? or any ideas??The battery is overheating and charging is disabled after a while, especially if you have the TD in the windscreen with the sun on it. Best solution I found: when you rest during driving swithc of the TD for cooling and then recharge it. It recharges from 0% to 80% power in about 30 min.

The lag on the TD is not limited to iGO and is discussed in another threat.

To change the screen info just click on the icon in the main map to open the subsequent menu. In this you'll find a vertical bar with three squares in front of each element, some with white fillings. Click on these to togle on/off, which will change the info displayed in the main map.

I generally get a notice ahead of an action and again just as I need to do it, but maybe the latter is due to you have turned before the instruction is given due to the lag time??

But now after I've synced my contacts, tasks and calender for the first time, IGO8 always crashes after start: The mainscreen appears but trying to push a button - even trying to goto to 'home' and start looking for available memory - results in 'fatal error occured in main thread. address 0x0028fda0, exception 0xc0000005' and IGO is gone.... . i've even restored my sprite backup, started igo again (without problems), synced again and again: CRASH
(after the crash app 50mb programm memory free)
Any idea?

But now after I've synced my contacts, tasks and calender for the first time, IGO8 always crashes after start: The mainscreen appears but trying to push a button - even trying to goto to 'home' and start looking for available memory - results in 'fatal error occured in main thread. address 0x0028fda0, exception 0xc0000005' and IGO is gone.... . i've even restored my sprite backup, started igo again (without problems), synced again and again: CRASH
(after the crash app 50mb programm memory free)
Any idea?

- to whom it may interest: stop thinking about - got it! As posted somewhere, IGO8 seems to have a problem with contactPOIs (whether it's the number of contacts or whether it's the structure I haven't tested yet), so I added [debug] disable_outlookpoi=1 to my sys.txt ('cause I don't need the contacts within IGO) and now IGO ist running again.

I finally managed to fix my problem with Igo quitting when I answered to calls...
maybe it could help some other person, so here is the mapping I have set.
The worse was to be able to catch the hardware keycode to know what they are on the diamond...

This should be set into thew file data.zip/config/keybind.txt
Remove everything else and just let this content...

I think it's a program with auto-rotation like "gsen" that run in back, when you turn with your car, the accelerometer consumme cpu by this app.

You must go gsen.txt and add the following:

My experience is that there is a time lag (when you stop the car the GPS continues moving for 10 - 15 meters) and a lag consistently showing that your position is behind the actual. At least I have never seen iGO8 showing my position ahead of the actual only behind some 10 - 30 m. The latter becomes a problem when using smart or auto zoom when zoomed to the highest level. In taht case it may look like you should turn at the next intersection. I believe its possible to set max zoom level even in the auto or smart mode somewhere, that should improve matters.

However, I came across the following article regarding the performance of the Qualcomm GPS showing that there is an issue with its precission and we possible will have to live with it.

I've installed IGO8 with close to no problems on my HTC Touch Cruise (original french ROM), however I'm still having two problems after soft reseting after each modification...
I'm driving a lot on long distances, and using a lot my gps (tomtom 7 installed already and works great). Your help is really needed as I'm at the end of my brain on these two points :confused:

1/ My "Favoris" (favorites in french) button is greyed. I believe I checked everywhere on this thread and several others treating about IGO8 and found nothing on that. No "Favoris" folder can be found either in the TC nor in the card itself.


2/ Despite the fact I've applied the dates modifications in my sys.txt (below), no speedcam POI show up. It indicates only it's empty. They're located in USERDATA/POI on my card and are in *.kml format ... :mad:.

I have renamed

into

app="Carte de stockage/IGO/iGO8" (I had to create a main folder -IGO- to keep everything clean, I've got tons of stuff on my sd card...)

Just checked mine. Both German voices are as loud and yhe same as my Danish choice. You are aware that in settings/sound you can change sound levels? But if it's only one voice behaving differently it sounds strange. Have you tried to disable dynamic sound?

It´s a TTS Voice and I have only one.

I think the reason is you couldn't rename the iGO8.exe file. The extension is still iGO8.exe.dat therefore it doesn't work. you should use total commander or a similiar software to change the name and the extension of application.dat.

Unfortunately I wouldn't know, only my German Katrin named Katrin v1.0 is comong out loud and clear (at least as loud and clear as the rest). Maybe it's related to the iGO version which Katrin you got (mine ends .41506)? Sorry I cannot help.

I have the same sys.txt described like here, of course for my language German. Nevertheless, nothing works. If however iGO8.exe directly on the internal storage starts, then, iGO 8 starts, breaks off with a mistake-news, however. What can I still do?

My problem is, that I have a Skyway navi with a 7" screen, and Igo8 only fills 2/3 of the screen when running in navi mode.

I know there should be a fix somewhere for it, but I can't find it anywhere.

ok guys i have a tougher one for you; the program works fine except the fact that the satelite connection keeps interrupting and so it cannot continuously track me and obviously route planning is ruinned.

my guess is i have to find the right settings from Settings > System > External GPS and if those are right the program itself will find the best settings via auto-detect. and btw, about that checkbox with multiple programs using GPS , ticked or cleared ?

You should turn off A-GPS (with e.g. Advanced Config).

Sorry for my english, it's not perfect.:DHappens when you set "display always on" and choose "Activate keyboard sound" in iGO. Disable the keyboard sound and the tick tick is gone. At least I solved the problem this way. I don't know if it's related to the ROM version, but I just realised that I can enable the keyboard sound in iGO without the tick (upgraded my ROM to 1.93 ...

Very simple install. Nothing needs to do, only delete sys.txt and rename aplication.dat as igo8.exe. No need dir 2577 at all, just delete it also at the begining. All will start without any problems. Maybe some personal tuning up if you want.

Strange but one resaler told me that the original version sold with ROM 1.37.479.3 WWE was buggy (also some hardware issue). Has anybody sucseeded with this ROM to run IGO?

Since lag seems regardless the Navi SW, it should be the TD's fault. Try to untick the "lock to road" option in the settings/navigation and see just how it reacts when approaching an intersection. Possible due to the Quadcomm chip?? At least timestamp has 0 second delay on mine.

I use Garmin XT Mobile and I have no lag. I also had iGO8 installed on the device and at least how long I've used it, I also got no lag (or at least nothing to be noticed). Don't see the point that the hardware is causing this. In iGO8 I also find out that disabling Assisted GPS is a better option

followed procedure from XDA, installed 1.40 Hard SPL UNsigned.
Afterwards installed SwiftBL Diamond 5.6 and then 6.0. iGO worked ok with both versions.
iGO 8, downloaded the above mentioned version, copied to internal storage, copied folder 2577 to internal storage, start Autorun from this folder and voila... works great!

PS. I did have to make a shortcut to iGO executable in my programs list later.

Looked liked it worked. Started in full screen portrait but then it gave an error. Somthing like: failed to load scheme 320x240.

VGA works pretty smooth on my phone.

With touch flo 3d running I only have about 10 % of my ram left,is this normal.

The application settings are in SYS.TXT, and the user settings are in save\system.ini.

If you run iGO8 directly (option B from first post: rename application.dat to iGO8.exe), iGO8 cannot edit SYS.TXT. So if you go to Settings > Device > Orientation, iGO8 will restart itself but cannot change its app settings, and will continue to load itself in whichever orientation is specified in SYS.TXT.

iGO8 has no problem editing save\system.ini for all other user settings, so changing those options inside iGO8 is okay.

Is there a way to use Igo in portrait? I used this sys.txt:

But then it doesn't use my full screen and not all the info is displayed.

I solved my problem. In the Igo Omnia (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416289) topic I downloaded another data.zip folder. In this folder there is a folder called ui_igo8. From here I copied the folder 240_320 into my original data.zip and with the sys.txt below it works in portrait.

For me, track logs are saved in \Storage Card\GPS\iGO8\save\Tracks
"Back Up User Data" is successful, but iGO8 does not tell me where it saves the backup.

I'm still not completely familiar with iGO8 so I'm not too clear on some things myself, but I will try to figure out what I can. ;)

driver="TAPI" lets iGO8 know how to access the phone for calling POIs. I haven't tested it yet so I don't know if it makes a difference.

inertia_on_map_move=1 enables "flick" scrolling, where you drag the map and it will continue scrolling and gradually slow down, instead of immediately stopping. Not very useful since iGO8 cannot redraw the map very fast. I think it's better to just zoom out and zoom back in, so I might remove this later. :rolleyes:

enable_pois_before_080217=1 enables older POI files to be loaded. For some reason iGO8 will not load my iGO8\Content\POI\*.poi files without this, maybe it thinks the files are expired. You do not need this for loading custom POI files, which are saved in iGO8\Content\userdata\POI\*.kml

Before I downloaded the Omnia data.zip with the 240*320 scheme I couldn't start Igo. I had to force it into landscape through the sys.txt. Now that I have the correct scheme I was able to delete the whole display interface and rawdisplay section from my sys.txt and control the orientation from within Igo.

You may need a cracked version. It sounds to me like the later iGO got better copy protection (meaning it has to be run off the SD card). At least on the iGO site is posted that it only runs off the original memory card.

Ok I guess you already did this but just to make sure.

-The folder should be called igo8
-This folder should be in the root of your internal storage
-In the sys.txt you need the line:

(Internal storage must be translated into your own language, see post #1)

When it still doesn't start try to remove your poi's, speedcams and map files. There might be a problem with the content so try to start it as clean as possible.

Version 8.0.0.35389 does not run, the "thinking" cursor appears for a few seconds and then disappears. You need 41506 or later (I'm using 44366). You can check the version (on your PC) by renaming iGO8\application.dat to iGO8.exe, right click > Properties > Version > Product Version:

For reference, the 3.62gb (ahem) "package" is using version 35389. You can still use the maps from that package with the 41506/44366 versions (just copy them over to the appropriate folders).

At what point in the loading does it stop (se bottom of screen on the elements being loaded) Then try to delete the last one showing, which may be the one causing problems.
