Hey all.

I was finally able to download the update for QuickGPS by using 'Settings->Connections->USB to PC and uncheck "Enabled advanced network functionality"' - found it on this forum, and didn't have to hard reboot! :D

However, when I brought up Live Search, the system went straight into Media Net. I dont' have a data plan, and I thought Live Search was free. Do I need a data plan to use Live Search, or do I need some other tweaking?

Help always appreciated.

The Live Search program and service is free. The time on-line is not free. You need a data plan of some sort. You didn't get one with your Tilt?

Live Search, Google Maps, Yahoo maps,... - these are all internet based apps. Of course they need a data connection. Did you really think that little download included all the maps and databases Live Search uses?

Note, you could use wifi for free, but that doesn't help you unless you are near a wifi router. If you really do not want to pay for a data plan, then your only choice for GPS is to spend the money on a standalone app like TomTom or Garmin or one of the others that includes their own maps and POIs on your devices local storage.

Thanks.

Well, grr. I guess I'll have to compare a data plan to shelling out the buckage for something like TomTom, which I understand means you have to use their small-sized SD micro. I'll check to see if Garmin will allow you to move their maps to my (soon to be here) 8GB microSD.

Ah, well...

When you buy the TomTom software you are given a DVD with the maps content. You must load the maps onto your OWN microSD card.
