This is really cool. The description in the first post didn't say too much what it is about. I thought I would give it a try. It really does rotate the screen when you rotate the phone - in any program. Fantastic.
An it appears in AppToDate. Even better.

very good release!!!
3 ask for you:
can I rotate the main screen (home, contacts, photos, etc..)?
this program has autorun?
can I exclude one program to rotation?
CharlyV
28th June 2008, 01:29 PM
Please read the readme.txt and you will find the answers.
You can add shortcut in startup.
To exclude app use #window parameter.
To rotate TF3D home screen make no sense, because it is designed for portrait mode.

hi, i've tried this program and works great.. MANY MANY THANKS!!! i just added a shortcut to windows/start so it loads on startup.
i understand that #window parameter can be used to exclude one program, but i have a couple of questions:
1- can i add as many exceptions as i want??
2- if answer is yes,how should i write them?something like this?
#window(explorer.exe)
#window(commanager.exe)
thanks!!!!

This problem has nothing to do with our tool.
If you have this kind of problem, you will have it by using another rotation (manually) tool too.

Found a problem with autorotating & zoom function;
The case is for programs that already has the g sensor working for diamond, ie htcalbum and opera9
in htcalbum, when I tried to zoom, the screen goes rotating 360 degrees (zooming using the circle navi)
in opera9, auto rotate doesnt work anymore, zooming is fine though
if anyone got these problems; just edit the config add:
#window(htcalbum)
#window(opera9)
dont forget to soft reset if it wont work immediately
CharlyV
28th June 2008, 07:26 PM
Good finding, gunggu.
Because the programs which are working with G-Sensor by default, can produce a problem in this case.
We will add these apps in our exlude list.

May I ask for what you need this? The typical way to hold your device ist the vertical one, so it make sense to me that it looks like it is not possible. If you watch Videos about the Pro, you will see that there is also no TF in the landscape- mode.

Very nice, 1 question though. Sometimes (especially when i'm lying on the floor/in bed etcetera) the screen keeps flipping a side when i want it to stay in portrait. In this case i'm also talking about opera.
Would it be possible to make another shortcut or some to enable te g sensor completely? so that means also in opera?
Edit: in case you are wondering, i know you can unload the gsens, but that would'nt disable the opera flipping i suppose.

Some suggestions for a basic config dialog:
1) Define rotation delay (only rotate after device has been in a position for x seconds)
2) Option to include or exclude by default (some people want to use it for selected apps only, rather than for everything).
3) Option to exclude known windows system dialogs by default (only work for installed progs).
4) Selection list of apps (easy selection of windows rather than manually having to edit the txt config file, which is obviously very error-prone)
5) Checkbox for auto-startup with WM
That would certainly make it a Diamond killer-app!

#fdscreenoff(1) works for me if device show face down.
Turn off the screen, not the power.
Still find no solution for this. There may be some conflict in my system. I'll try to locate it.
Anyway, thanks.

I dont know if there is a program what does it already for the diamond, but maybe its a idea to implement a feature that works like muting a phone call but then it mutes the alarm.
So when the wake-up alarm goes off u flip the phone and the alarm is turned off/snoozes. This already exists in a program for symbian but i havent seen it for win mobile thus far.
It seems like a nice feature to me though i have to admit i have no idea how much work it would be.

Small issue,
Maybe someone can help.....
When you press the upper bar then you get a screen with the options like:
battery and phone signal and notifications.
When this is open and you turn your phone it goes to landscape.
and when the screen then disappears after 4 sec. then it retunes to the home screen.
than you see that the home screen is turns as well.
way to get it back is the same way it turned to landscape.
does anyone know what to add in the txt file to keep it from going landscape when that screen is called upon?
Thank you,

Excellent, thank you VERY MUCH to the developer who put this together.
I've been explaining to friends and co-workers for the past week that at some point, some very clever developer would figure out how to hook up the earlier, manual "rotate by button" tweak to the g-sensor, and now they did.
I *love* that I can now answer SMS and email using the keyboard in landscape mode, since my fingers made typing on the full qwerty in portrait a hit-and-miss affair (literally).
Thanks again!

I looked up the program for symbian, its called flipsilent.
U can select if u want the phone to mute the call or end the call and if u want the wake-up alarm to stop or snooze when flipped.

Quoting from Readme:
You can use configuration shortcut for edit configuration file.
This file can include this command:
#window(text or class name) - add window description
#timeout(value) - default value 1000 ms
#onlyfor(0|1) - if 0 auto rotate work for all programm except defined by #window, otherwise ONLY for this program.
By default program not rotate screen if Manila or Teeter is foreground application, but you can edit this list.

I'v been using this app for a couple of day's now and I must say: it is usefull.
The only thing that bugs me is:
it isn't as quit responsive as I expected. It just takes to long to rotate the screen in an app and/or menu. The status bar(start, signal etc) is sometimes disappearing. At the moment it is to slow and to buggy for me, but I keep this thread in mind, because I like the idea of this app. But maybe it's just WM6.1 that slows it's down. For example: HTC Album will rotate the picture very responsive and very quick. Maybe(I don't know) it is because HTC Album uses the 3D acc. graphics while WM6.1 simply can't make use of it...
anyway: keep up the good work, will watch this thread for the future

Hell, this is such an impressive application. Kudos to SK team - adds great cred to their team! One wonders why HTC didn't do this themselves?
Guys, some apps I would happily pay for:
- Use scroll wheel in other apps where I can choose what each app does (zoom/volume/scroll)
- Other uses for accelerometer such as snooze (covered above), and gestures (to replace missing hard buttons)
- A more fleshed-out version of Gsen that allows for a config interface, turn off phone vs turn off screen when face down, default rotation for specified apps, etc etc
Keep up the great work! Been a loyal SK Tools subscriber for many years.

I'm using Gsen V1.0, and the Teeter game is listed in the config as one not to be rotated (obviously!). However, if I try to start the game in a landscape orientation, I get an error message (A problem has occured with Labyrinth.exe). It will start up fine in portrait orientations.
This is probably a problem with the game app rather than gsens, but I thought I'd point it out.
Great app by the way, really shows off the coolness of the device!

I noticed that the change in orientation is only done when actually tilting the phone.
If the phone is held sideways, the orientation changes.
When the Home button is pressed, manilla appears in portrait mode, even when the phone is held sidways. I know this is a limitation of manilla.
But when I use the taskmanager to go back to the program, the orientation is not changed anymore.
It would be nice if Gsen is not only sensing the change in G, but also checking if it is still in the correct orientation corresponding to the current G. It should reapply the change in orientation if the foreground window is not in de exclusion list.
Why would I need this?
When I accidently go to Home and then open TomTom again, it is not in landscape mode anymore. And it is not handy to take the phone from the holder, put it upwards, and then put it sideways back in the holder.

Congratulations on one of the most useful utilities I have ever come across. I have a question regarding it's entry in apptodate though...
Every time I run apptodate, sometimes every few days, sometimes a few times a day, GSEN always says requiring update and always says version 1.0.
Does this mean that a new version is constantly available (at version 1.0) or is it an issue with apptodate?
I shall post this question in the apptodate thread also.

Excellent application, thankyou.
Feature request - is it possible that when you turn the phone upside down (to put it in your pocket) it does not rotate the screen but instead turns the screen off. Maybe with a timeout option so that it doesn't do this by mistake.
This would be very handy and would also solve the problem people are having with trying to answer the phone when the screen has gone upside down in their pocket. I'm also fairly sure there are not many people using this upside down rotated mode to use their phone. cheers, it's great at it is just making a suggestion Russ

thnx for the great tool, just 2 remarks:
- this has been addressed before, but when the phone is locked it should not be able to rotate, as the (default) tf3d does not support landscape
- After sending an sms while in landscape modus, then closing the sms application the tf3d sms component is also loaded in landscape before it goes pack to portrait mode.
Both issues should be fixed with a landscape modus for TF3D, but maybe there is something you could as temp fix.

To make it work with TomTom (and any other application, actually) open TomTom (or the application you need to configure), open GSen Config, position the cursor where you want to include the #WINDOW line and use EDIT->Select Process Class or Select Process Name and choose the appropriate application from the list. I would love an option to only rotate the programs listed in a list.
That way I woudn't need to update the every time I install program.
This would also fix the dialer problem.
The program should have the option of running in exclude mode(normal) or include mode (only on specified programs).

I'v already post that the program for me was to slow when rotating(a couple of days ago).
Now I have seen your video(1st post) I'm wondering why GSen won't rotate as quck as it does on that video. I'm using v1.2 and I have flashed Elite 2.0
At my diamond it takes about a full 2 seconds(even 3) to rotate. And when it rotates the screen, it takes soem time to build the screen.
If it is as fast as it is on your video, than it would be great!
Anybody ideas why it's so slow on my diamond.

Sadly, the same happens to me too.
I have freeram assigned in the right soft-key and by running it , in 5 secs it restores the lost ram AND brings back the taskbar.
But this isn't the best solution, hopefully the will come with the answer eventually.

tested it with latest dutch htc rom (1.37). When screen is locked it no longer rotates. But when you push button unlock and the unlock screen opens (step 2 in the unlock process, screen with the grey background), then it still rotates, again causing problems with the tf3d interface.
Also I expierenced the problem where the upper menu bar with start disapppears.
Application is going the right way though!
*edit: also found an issue when you want to shut down the phone. When the confirmation message is shown the rotation is working, this is not really handy.

I put fdscreenoff(2) and it did put the device in suspend mode but when someone is calling, one of the Diamond perfect features that is if you flip down the device, the ringtone is mute. But if i use fdscreenoff(2), it put in suspend mode instead, is there anyway that i use this command and have the ringtone mute together?
i mean fdscreenoff works perfectly together with this feature. Thank You
Why there is no one mention about this, "fdscreenoff" should be disabled when a call is being received (ringtone mute?)

Thank you,
Using the latest version (v1.4) this still seems to be a bug, summarized as:
If you rotate the handset while the large status bar button screen is displayed (tapping upper right of the screen when this 'feature' is enabled), while this itself doesn't rotate when you go back to TF3D this has been rotated (and continues to be able to be rotated).
Not a huge one, just for the record.. :)
Keep up the good work!

After installed GSen, all other application can't be really closed by press the X, they all still running in background unless I close them in task menu.
Confirm this to still be an issue in the latest version (v1.4):
If you have your Task Manager configured so as the 'X' closes the program on tap (as opposed to minimizing on tap and closing on hold), after installation of GSen this reverts back to Minimize on tap.
This can of course be (seemingly) manually then set back to the desired setting.

For me the combination foronly(1) / window(Tomtom Navigator) does not work either.
What I did is:
set Gsen #foronly(0)
Install Mortscript and run the following script instead of TomTom:
Run("%InsertYourPathToGsenHere%\gsen.exe")
RunWait("%InsertYourPathToTomtomHere%\TomTom Navigator.exe")
Kill("gsen.exe")
No solution for the problem (Might be problems with the space in the Window title?) but a workaround.
And you dont need to have Gsen running in the background all the time.

Yep I'm also getting the cannot connect to gsensor (3) on startup.
I have tried both ways in adding the shortcut.
By tapping on the shortcut called " GSenCFG ".
File > Startup
Confirm with " Yes
and manually adding the shortcut with Total commander.
I'm currently using Bepes bElite rom, it maybe incompatible with it in some way.

I gave the last release a try-out on TLR's V1 though what happened (only the last days) is that even the TF3D repositions itself randomly.
I switched on my device and found the screen 180 degrees upside.
Moving it resulted in horizontal crash.
Was it not supposed not to interact with the vertical only GUI?
Most probably due to the ROM as I did not read any similar posts?
Maybe something to look into for next releases?

Since I'm using GSen with the whitelist-feature it's a little bit annoying, that I have to rotate the device back to it's old position before I leave that application. In case I forget that i have to launch this specific application again to rotate it back to portrait.
So maybe it's possible to add an autorotate feature if you leave the application. I've heart that the HTCSensor library sends out events, so your code does not keep track of open applications all the time, but just at the time an event is triggered.
So maybe it is a option to allow one last rotation back to default orientation when you have left the whitelist application.

works fine for me, make sure you use the right windowclassnames, process and window names didn´t work for me either.
can we make a list of class names from applications and the app in real name behind? so everybody could copy and paste his own gsens config very fast to his needs?!
just make the begining:
#window(RESCO_EXPLORER_CLASS) ;RESCO Explorer
#window(MunichWinClass) ;TomTom7
#window(#NETCF_AGL_BASE_) ;MaspWareGPS
#window(PXLMainWnd) ;PExcel File Dialogue
