Hey guys, is this real?

http://www.easydevices.co.uk/products.asp?partno=BATCRUISEEXTD&model=

If it is, this would be the largest capacity battery I've ever seen for the Diamond.

I wrote to those guys and they even answered but they weren't specific neither about dimensions (how much it will increase the thickness) nor about the new back (if it looks like the Diamond one).

On the webpage it says "BATCRUISEEXTD". It also say (below the picture) "2x the thickness of original battery + new back cover supplied", so in theory this should be okay. I still wonder, though, whether the 2400 mAh is really true and whether if this isn't really an extended battery for the other HTC devices? The same type of extended life battery is sold for almost every HTC device on the site.

There must be someone using this forum that has actually bought one of these babies, right?

I've written them as well about dimensions and other specs - hopefully if we spam them enough they will provide us with accurate information about the product.;)

Hehe, yeah, that was the case. Here's the reply:

Hi Jon,

That was the information I was told, we have had further discussions with the manufacturer and they have now confirmed it as an 1800 mAh capacity battery as listed now on the website.

Best regards

So, there are 2 questions:

Will the new back cover look the same as the original one?

How thick will the phone be with the new battery and new back cover?

And a 3rd one: how does this influence the camera? Since the "window" will be futher away from the lens...

Very good questions. I've sent the dealer an e-mail and will post the answer here when I get it. ;)

The batteries we stock are not HTC Branded but fully HTC compatible.
I have confirmed with our purchasing team that the Extended life battery we will be stocking for the Touch Diamond is 1800 mAh.

I think i would get the original batt instead..
imagine having to lug around an extra batt cover as well as the batt..

What do you mean "extra" batt cover? It *replaces* the original cover.
And it adds about 20g anyway, so I wouldnt call this "lugging".
IMO it pretty much a must have, considering that with standard one you pretty much can do nothing with device, or you must stay near the power outlet.
Also the cover with extended battery is flat (at least with Clove one), making device less wobbly on the table.

I agree TOTALLY. I'm buying this. Maybe we should be ahead to do a bulk buy of 20 units or so? :D

Someone must have bought this battery?! Or at least have seen it.

its not in the shops yet, ppl have put pre-orders in and will be posting pics (maybe on another thread) once they get the product...

I'm most concerned about camera operation when you have a back cover that is at least half as deep as the stock one. How, I wonder, will the camera lens cope with that distance to the lens opening?

blade80
6th July 2008, 10:57 AM
Probably the lens won't be at any other distance than the original one, thats what I think. My guess is 2 to 3 mm MAX in thickness difference from the original so the lenscover can easily be made a little deeper.

Thats why I want to have a high res. picture of the back and propbably everyone else too. I hope the back is nice enough to match the phone. Its amazing that the back doesn't show in the product picture. The picture that comes with the product isn't worth anything, it doesn't say anything of value to the customer.

I bought the 1800mAh one from www.gpsforless.com my Diamond My now weighs the same as the touch cruise but remember it's now 1800 compared to 1350 on the cruise and the Diamond is so much more capable.

battery now lasts me a day with heavy usage.

Cheers.

ohh it's www.gpsforless.co.uk not .com

it's the 1800mAh lipo battery with new rear cover and desktop charger and adapter. all for only around £20. A very good deal if you ask me.

That back cover looks a bit freakish. Does it look exactly the same as the original, only thicker?

No only the middle section where the battery's thickness protrudes is thicker. The cover is quite ugly.

Also, the cover doesn't have the protective screen over the camera opening so you'll have dust dropping inside onto the actual camera screen :( I just taped mine up so I can't and don't use the camera but at least it protects the screen.

The battery life is quite impressive. I used to have to recharge my Diamond 2 - 3 times a day but now only once a night.

Also, you might find that charging the battery directly with the desktop cradle will feed it with more charge as compared to charging it in your Diamond.

All in all it's worth the sacrifices considering the battery life is impressive. Remember this is a lipo cell, not li-ion :)

Cheers :)

I have bought two batteries in ebay,DIAMOND P3700 EXTENDED 1800mAh BATTERY...Lucky batteries were full charged when I received, and my diamond work...but With this battery, the integrated GPS of the diamond don't work.My Diamond can not detected the exterenal battery status and got the message "main battery:unknown"
I'm currently researching a way to charge the batteries but it is impossible whit the diamond or battery charger. I use last Dutty rom with 1.00.25.05 radio...some advise?

happyguy82
3rd August 2008, 03:27 PM
I don't think the battery impedes the performance of the GPS. I got my GPS working again with this battery. The GPS always takes a long time to get working again after the battery is removed.

i just bought the battery from the top of this page.. it fits perfectly on my O2 DIAMOND..BUT!!!! the cover doesnt match!!!
the cover is the one from the original HTC DIAMOND.. so it doesnt fit to the O2, T-Mobile and to all the other ones!!
Well.. I have a new battery now.... but no cover.. :D

so do yourself a favour and wait until a new battery FOR YOUR PHONE is on the market!

all the DIAMONDS out there are different in shape and different in little thinks to hold the backcover!!

good luck!

viriatto

The main problem with the battery is the message "main battery:unknown" I never know the level of charge in batteries.
And Yes, you are right. We must wait until other battery appear...but I am impatient.

your not the first person to mention this extended battery issue 1800mah+, and one of the threads that brought it up mentioned the name of the battery and since then its been pulled off the manufactures website. I cant remember the link just now but im pretty sure someone phoned them and they said that they where aware of an issue with GPS not working afterwards, the thought being on the forum that the thickness of the battery may well be interfearing with it enough to stop it working

Thanks for the pics, doesn't looks to bad actually, may pick one up.

Considering the battery is quite high and once the new back cover is on there is a large chunk of space left going down the phone, perhaps some could fill that space by making a battery like the on in the picture but also extends downwards over the sim, may make the Diamond a little heavy but it would be one hell of a battery

If that was possible, it may be a 3000-3300ma battery, that should last a while :D

I like the weight now.
Its still smaller then my Tytn2.
Continue WiFi and MFE is no problem any more.
