View Full Version : Battery charging meter incorrect until reset

Has anyone else experienced a problem where battery meter sticks at around 65% despite being fully charged. When soft reset it goes to 100%.

It's not a battery cell issue - battery life is fine. It's simply a meter misread.

Not that i have noticed although ill say that the battery meter on the Diamond isnt all that great...its not really a good indicator as to how long the battery has before it goes dead.

Yup, mine tends to stick at 80%. At least it did in ROM 1.35. Burned yesterday the official 1.37 and we'll see how it goes...

OK, with the new ROM, the phone connected to the PC charged smoothly from about 46% to 100%. I'll see probably tomorrow if the charger makes any difference.

How long do you find the battery takes to charge from around 15% to 100% using the power pack, not computer connection???

Hi Guys,

Does anyone has more info about this ?

When i charge my device (from charger or by PC Usb), it won't go pass 89% battery charge, therefore never warns me when it's complete.

I know it charges to 100%, so it seems to be a problem with the software.

This is quite annoying, has i never get the "Battery Charged Warning" while plugged in.

My ROM Version (Original) 1.37.410.3 PTG

Cheers and thanks.

Anyone still experiencing a flakey battery meter? Sometimes mine will read 90%. Then, within two minutes it will be down to 45%. But if I soft reset, it will go back up again. Some days it's all over the place and I actually have no idea what the battery level is.
I'm using QuickMenu. Anyone have any suggestions or similar experience?

Happened to my unit as well. It doesn't happen all the time though. Sometimes it will charge up to 100% just fine and other times it hangs somewhere between 70-90%.

I've this problem, the battery meter indicates for a lot of time the same value (eg. 98%) but if i'll reset the phone i can see the real value (eg. 45%)
it's very strange

How long do you find the battery takes to charge from around 15% to 100% using the power pack, not computer connection???

depends on what current the powerpack is supplying, it will probably be either 500mA (0.5A) or 1A. Obviously the higher the current the quicker it will charge.

A PC USB connection can provide 500mA maximum, where as a mains carger will supply 1A or 2A (think its 2A if you have a proper Diamond charger).

A car charger will vary, when the engine is off you will get 1A if you are lucky. With the engine running you will get 2A, but during the engine starting you can get a peak of up to 5A (phone killingly good).

All of these measurement can vary!

yes. my battery meter is incorrect, too. exact same behaviour as you mentioned. 65% -> after reset 100%. nearly all the time. that's very bad, because my battery lives about 1 day without charging and in the evening i don't know how full or how empty my battery is. sometimes the remaining 8 % are real 8 % and sometimes (after a restart again) the shown 8 % are more then 30 %.

I've tried about 6 roms and get the same thing with all of them. It happens infrequently but is still annoying. Basically, if I'm suspicious of the battery level, I soft reset to verify.

it's "normal" that behaviour, because also battery check is made by OS (WinMobile) at prestabilite polling times, search in the registry for "batterypoll" and you'll see a value expressed in seconds (I suppose they are secs), try to lower those values and see what happens, of course shorter polling times drain battery faster :)

It happen to me always too!
It was 40%, after I played Monopoly games for 1 hour, it still showed about 39%. When I soft-reset, now it show only 25%. What a huge drop!

I think that why TF3D doing reset during night while charging...
I disable TF3D every night, so no reset at night but as side effect sometimes battery does'nt arrive to 100% :)

My diamond has sometimes the same behavior. The battery gauge sometimes showes only 50 percent or so and after a soft reset it showes full. I had this issue a few months ago, too. The the battery gauge showed correct values and now I have the same issue again.

I am pretty sure it is some kind of a software problem, but I have no idea which software disturbs the battery gauge. I had this issue never with my touch, but only with the diamond. I anyone has suggestions ülease let me know! Thank's a lot.

Can you guys try dis-charging your battery completely then charge for once and see if that error happens again? I have read that the li-ion batteries loose their level calibration often and you have to fully discharge and re-charge once in 3 months or so..

Regards,
Carty..

I drained the battery completely until the device switsched off. Unfortunally there is no difference in the behavior.

The battery issue was caused by the demo version of Navigon MN7. After uninstalling this software everythig works fine.

i´ve got the same problem with incorrect batterymeter.

but i noticed another prob. when i turn off the device and charge it over night, at the next morning the charging-led lights up, so the battery is fully charged.

but when i turn the device on, it only shows 95%, and after another restart it shows only 92%. very strange...

It seems to be normal that the battery drains during a soft reset, but after charging the switched off diamond I have 100%. Also after a hard rset and no other software installed the battery meter works well. I got my Diamond in September 2008 and I restored always backups after a hard reset. I think I should take the time to reinstall my diamond and see what happens...

Anyway, I would be very happy if I knew which registry entry or whatever else causes the battery meter working wrong. Has anybody here the ability to compare the relevant registry entries of a fresh hard resetted Diamond with a Diamond with a wrong working battery meter?

I have the same kind of problem with my Diamond, and it's getting worse and worse.

I was playing around with the phone yesterday and had to do a soft reset while I was charging it, the battery was at 59% or something but suddenly after soft reset it jumped to 100% lol :)

So, the battery was fully charged, according to the battery indicator anyway. Then I went to sleep, and my phone as well (WLAN/3G/BT/BEAM, background apps killed etc. - all turned off).

When I woke up my battery indicator showed 40%. So, according to the battery indicator I lost 60% of power in 8 hours without even using the phone. Very, very weird :S I have a hard time believing that the battery actually was fully charged yesterday night when I did the soft reset. It was probably charged to 59% as it displayed before the soft reset and not 100%.

Sometimes it can take many, many hours to charge the battery to 100%. Sometimes it stucks on ~70%.

I think all these problems are software related, and they are SOO annoying. But how to solve them :/

I've had two Diamonds and used about 15 Roms and it happens with all of them. It's just one of the many Diamond quirks as far as I'm concerned. I've found the best thing for me is to charge with phone OFF and then start fresh from 100% every day and try my best not to soft reset. Also, I do drain it completely from time to time.
Only problem is with trying to not soft reset as it seems many are required with this little gem.:)

I know that the battery problem is a software problem, because my diamond charges well when switched off or after a hard reset. As soon as I restore my software the battery problem is back. I still hope, that anybody finds the reaseon

A lot of people complained about the battery life of the Diamond. Maybe it was never as bad as we thought. I find that the ratio of battery drainage to usage is never consistent.

ernst12345
8th January 2009, 04:14 PM
My problem is not the more or less fast drainage, but the wrong battery gauge (even batti 2.4shows wrong values, because windows mobile seems to tell the battery gauge what to show).

I tried differnt values between DEC 200 und DEC 5000 for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro lßPower\TimeoutsßBatteryPoll and I think that charging behavior of the diamond depends on this value. Did anybody else "play" with the value of BatteryPoll?

i´ve noticed another issue. when my phone shuts down because of empty battery, i put it on the charger over night.

the leds aren´t flashing round the nav-key, so the battery is fully charged.

when i turn on the phone, my battery meter says 97%. doea anybody have noticed that too??

Turning on the machine takes alot of power, so i think its normal to not have 100%, eventho you have charged it.

djkasmic
18th January 2009, 02:24 PM
yes of course it takes a little bit more power, but 3% ?? no!!

sometimes the batterymeter shows 100% after charging and rebooting and sometime it shows only 97%.

I made a hard reset and installed all the software new and now it seems to charge correctly.

So there's no solution to this? I'm wondering whether it's a ROM problem or a software problem.

Initially I had the same problem, did a hard reset, it worked for a while, then the problem came back.

Perhaps it was never meant to report in 1% increments. Since that's how HTC meant it to be. I tried getting support from HTC, but to no avail.

I'm tempted to try a hard reset again, but it's quite tiring to reinstall all my programs...

If i not mistake, this is the problem of window mobile itself,:(

not only hapening in our diamond, other WM phone also have the same problem.

Hope WM6.5 can overcome this problem.:p

I used palm before for many year, and don have such battery meter problem.

I thought so. I was using Atom Exec previously and I didn't have any such problem.

However, there are many who are also using that don't have the problem... Sigh, I'm thinking of doing a hard reset again, and install 1 application each day and slowly find out whether it could be a software conflict or something of that sort.

I have exactly the same problem. I guess it makes some software I have installed, while the day after buying it was OK. But I spend already a week doing HW reset and installing all my apps. Hopefully someone come with the solution.

hi
just want to share my opinion.
recently i have encounter this problem too.
i discharge the phone until it shut down and tried to fully charge it back, but the battery meter stuck at 75% and never goes beyond that..i soft reset it and the battery shows 100%.

after searching over the internet, i found that the diamond shut itself down when the battery level is around 10%. what you should do in order to completely discharge the battery is to turn it back so the diamond could force itself on until the battery completely drain. after that, charge your battery until its full. its should be no problem after that..

sorry for my bad english

This happens more consistently ever since I'm using win6.5. I don't know if it's because I'm using TF3D2 or the fact that it's a win6.5 OS, but I rarely get this problem back when I was using swiftl rom with win6.1 and TF3D.

OK.. Just wanna give my 2 cents to this thread.. I've had this problem for around 5 months on my diamond, and believe me, i've tried everything! Soft reset, hard reset, stock rom, fully discharge to fully charge in off mode, still the same.. it would keep on charging, not getting past around 60% or so, and after a hard reset, it would show 100%. Then for a week ago, i thought i would try S2U2 again, in hope of less battery drain in newer versions. And to my surprise, from the first time charging after the installation, not only did it fully charge, and have done that for a week now!, but newer version of S2U2 do not seem to drain my battery at all.. So the conclusion: I'm a happy man! :D
