View Full Version : (14/08/2008) Scroll Launcher 0.05 - BugFix!

2nd July 2008, 11:34 PM
Scroll Launcher is a Diamond styled Launcher for WM Devices.
Scroll Launcher looks inside the windows start menu folder for all files, and then adds them to a modified KListControl from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=333124)
Requirements:
.NET CF 2.0
WM2003 and above Pocket PC device. (I haven't worked out where the Smartphone version stores its startmenu. As soon as I do, I'll release a new version).
QVGA or VGA device
2MB of RAM (may use more on VGA)
Screen shots:
http://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg59/l3v5y/Scroll%20Launch/ScrollLauncher001.jpghttp://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg59/l3v5y/Scroll%20Launch/ScrollLauncher001-1.jpghttp://i245.photobucket.com/albums/gg59/l3v5y/Scroll%20Launch/ScrollLauncher002.jpg
Usage:
Install the cab to your device. Execute the link called "Scroll Launcher" in Programs, and then scroll till you find the program you want!
Notes:
No icons are added yet.
A settings program is included!
EOA (ExitOnAction) sets whether the application should close when you hit a link.
The "Path" option allows changing of the path. If you have a non WWE ROM, please set this prior to use!
You must restart Scroll Launcher to apply changes.
Thanks to dosfan and gingercat for the original KListControl.
Thanks to kidnamedAlbert for the icon!
The sourcecode for my modified KListControl is also attached for those who are interested.

Currently it's a single colour layer... I might try and implement some form of bitmap backround, but that'll eat memory...

well at least a black background color. white is too bright and makes my head hurt.
still i will use it

Have a present! I've just swapped around the black and white... Now the background is black, and the text is white!
I'm gonna release a version with the ability to configure that tomorrow!

Does your ROM have any localisation? It may not work with differently named start menus. Also, are the files in "\\Windows\\Start Menu\\Programs" *.lnk files?

I'm adding some customization to it (via the registry!) so I can add that as an option.
The icons are coming, I just need to work out how best to implement it.

New version with some customisation out now! :D
l3v5y, I just tried your launcher (actually referred from the finger friendly thread) and I like it a lot, it can easily compensate what pointui is missing, which is only 7 items allowed.
I don't know if you could add these:
1) Groups of the shortcuts. I have way too many shortcuts currently grouped into folders right now (for pointui access). However if your launcher supports layers, such as if I double tap office then I would be able to select word mobile, excel mobile etc that would make it a little cleaner look.
2) Index scroll, a vertical scroll bar on either the left side or right side when scrolling the corresponding first letter comes up, like what pcm contacts, icontact and random access has. It maybe too pointui-ly but certainly increases the usability of your launcher.
Just my 2 cents. Keep up the good work!

Good ideas, but they may take some time...
Currently the items are sorted by creation date, so I need to change that before 2 will work.
Groups may also take some time as I'll have to redo the click handling...

Are you considering any further customization towards a general file explorer? Something to replace our current windows file explorer? If you look at the file Explorer in A_C's S2V or S2P they are both very simple and nice to use.
Thanks,
Curious G

I might go for a file explorer, although context menus and the like may not exist... It would be a simple file explorer rather than a file mananger.

I'm really really looking forward to continued development of this app. Once it's complete, it will join ThumbCal and iContact to create the "holy trinity" that will blow any iPhone away (sorry Steve, your too rich already)
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help continue the progression of the app. I'm crap at coding, but very solid with graphics and xml.
One request would be to allow more organic 'slowdown' of the scroll.. similar to iContact, where once you 'flick' it feels like gravity is slowing the scrolling down - rather than the constant speed as it is now. Oh, and icons & further tweakability. If you need a beta tester, just lemme know (Stock ROM / TyTnII)
Thanks for your efforts so far l3v5y - like I said.. once this is complete, it's gonna kick serious ass.

Dear l3v5y,
Thanks for your this Launcher. I tried to find something like this for many time (for my magician) and you're the man, can do.:) It's look simple and easy. I like it.
I have some mention, it's use 3m when program running and still running on background, isn't it? I compare with "Fantastic Bytes Launch Manager" that it's used only 2m and automatic close.
By the way, as i told you first I really like your idea. :D

Hi l3v5y,
nice app, i will cook in my next rom.
Is in next version of Scroll Launcher folder structure and close Button possible?
example:
List of all items in Start Menu\Programs open Accessories or other folder with a tap,
and open new list with folder content (and Back Button).

I'm rewriting quite a lot of the base code to allow for this kind of thing.
Some things I'm trying to add:
Multi Launguage support.
Better use of sub folders.
Better customisation.
Icons.
Reduced memory usage.

Nice work dude. I like the config tool & it seems a little bit more fluid than the previous version.
I didn't try it, but assume you can point the PATH to a folder of .lnk's instead of the full list of programs ?
Muchly appreciated :)

Muchly appreciated :)You can point it anywhere, but it'll only work with .lnk files. It'll add one level of subfolders, and the lnks they contain, but no more.

Can you make at next update icons visible, better scrolling, and custom file set???
(mean no from start menu/programs)
next idea: You can make from scroll launcher task manager too:
File list with icon + at the top lauched application with X.......
So... It's very good program....
UR Rocking! :)
EDit: Can you make options for text style?????
FOR EXAMPLE (____ - space)
_____STYLE1_____ (your default)
STYLE2__________
__________STYLE3
And text font, size style(bold, underline, etc...)
This is my idea....
NEXT IDEA:
You have this.... ehm green... "underline" still at one program - can you make to in scrolling is the "underline" at the bottom page or at anything postition - and it is still at the page visible in scroling....
I can't say you it better :-D
NEXT IDEA:
CATEGORIES:
files with icons or without (at settings) are grouped to group to FOLDERS at programs or settingsable...
upward group is small text
this style:
---------GROUP1----------
NEXT IDEA: Remove this horrible exit.....
:-D
NEXT IDeA: add the imaginative scroller (like iPhone, like at ThumbCal) to right.....
I will make EXAMPLE IMAGE...
And ADD: SHOW ICONS.... :)
l3v5y
15th August 2008, 12:23 PM
You can customise the location already, use the config program, and change the "Path".
The text style can be configured, but I haven't allowed access to this yet. I shall add something in soon.
The green "underline" is the selected program, you can change the graphic file for it. I'm in the process of rewriting the base code to make it more easy to use.
Icons take a huge ammount of processor power and RAM.
Folders need a rewrite of the base code.
The "Exit" button can be easily removed.

You do not need to uninstall the previous build as the new cab should force an uninstall.
You should be alright leaving it assigned to a hardware key - the install directory is the same.

korbiI didn't edit the first post (yet).
You can now use this on non WWE ROMs. You'll need to configure the "Path" option in the settings to match the path to where the Programs are stored. (On WWE, it's \Windows\Start Menu\Programs\) Make sure the path format matches what is currently in the "Path" box (IE if it has a "\" at the end, leave it there!)
I shall edit the first post to respect this now!

i have to say nice app, i was thinking of making something along these lines but it wasn't going to be the start menu, i wanted to make it show my open apps, so i can use it as a "alt+tab" type function. basically i have your app assigned to FTouchSL to open when ever i swipe from the bottom upwards, and it opens instantly with the list, so instead of the start menu, have it show the open apps so i can just select and switch. i really like the idea your going with on this app so maybe you can make something similar seeing that i can't find the code to make the open apps appear plus i like the way yours is lookin and maybe can use them together. swipe up for task switch and assign sipe downward for start menu, that way they look similar and when skins start appearing, they will be compatible with each other

lol thats would be great, ScrollTask, nice & clean with just app names so it will open quickly and "minimize" itself after app selected. Also, a heads up, a "hurdle" or better yet an idea, is to not have the phone app pop up in the list nor should it (ScrollTask) pop up on the list. maybe have an exceptions option so you can choose what apps you dont want to appear on the list.

Hi l3v5y's,
Thanks for an awesome app. It has lots of potential and I'm hoping to incorporate it into my app...
I created a bunch of LNK files in a folder and attempted to execute them using the program but it failed for me. The LNK file is on the advanced side but it certainly works when launched in Explorer or through Start>Programs. Here are the contents of the LNK file:
69#"\Program Files\MortScript\MortScript.exe" "\Program Files\JZ\helpers\JZMortButtonsRunner.mscr" browser="operamini"?\Program Files\JZ\JZIcon.dll,-9It fails with an error: Failed to open file
Here's a screenshot below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=151559&stc=1&d=1233213242
I wonder whether you are parsing the LNK file or just launching it...
Thanks!

In theory, the lnks should be opened by WM... It may be that I'm executing them rather than using the shellexecute function. I'm working on a C++ version (which kindof supports icons ish) that's faster and shouldn't do that...
