Whenever I choose to go into fullscreen while watching a video on windows media player... it turns the video sideways... so it's the correct viewing if you turn the phone to the right if you're holding it in front of you. any fix? this wasn't happening in the beta... i remember there being a fix for the mda... but u could always change the orientation of the mda...
help? thanks!

It only happens with streaming video. If you play a local video (storage card) in full screen it works fine.

Regular videos can be viewed no problem, are you having issues with them? YouTube uses flash to display the movies, so it's a little different. You can try downloading the Flash Player Lite :
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/devices/pocket_pc.html
I haven't tried it on the Dash, but you'll need something like that to watch YouTube videos. Backup your Dash before installing as always. Good luck!!

I don't think anyone's been able to get youtube to work on the Dash yet. The FlashLite adobe product only works for sites that are explicitely written to take advantage of it...and the number of sites any of us has ever found that do that: zero.
You can stream in and/or download videos from tinytube.net. That site seems to be some sort of proxy that reads/converts video from youtube into a format that can be viewed on the Dash. Works well.

getwsted at HF found a solution for the screen rotation issue:
Add the following Key "Rotation" under HKLM\System\GDI\
e.g. [HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation]
Then Add this dword.
"LandscapeMode"=0
It solved my problem with Orb and other Videos with WMP in full screen mode.

"landscapemode"=0 or landscapemode=0? thanks guys

hey guys, for some reason my dash cant play videos that i add through media player. any videos on there right now play fine, but when i try to open a video i just put on the storage card (through active sync), it says: cant find "name of file" make sure the path and filename are correct and that all the required libaries are available.
anybody know how to fix this? thanks...
btw, when looking at the file on file explorer, the symbol for it it is a white paper with a flapping window inside...

Media player is crap anyway ... go do yourself a favour and google for "TCPMP" ... there is a smartphone & PPC version ... make sure you get the right one ... although either one will work ( that's how versatile it is ...LOL )... just the right one will be better in terms of efficiency ;)
your problem above could be related to when you transfered the file using ActiveSync and somehow it got "converted" wrong ... have you tried copy the file(s) using a card reader instead ???

8th June 2007, 12:35 AM
ok, plz tell me if this is something that is normal, or is something wrong with my dash.... i have a few video files on my storage card, all in the same folder. some have a tcpmp logo (blue film thingie) and some have the media player logo on them. the ones with the tcpmp logo can only be opened by tcpmp, and cant even be found by media player, and the same thing for the media player videos (can only be opened by media player, not detected by tcpmp)
i think that the videos that have the tcpmp logo were just drug and dropped into my storage card, while the media player files were synced through media player on my desktop. i dont remember this being a problem with wm5, so plz tell me of any fixes or i might just restore my dash , thanks

8th June 2007, 05:34 AM
the problem lies with "files association" ...
go into your TCPMP settings and check/uncheck file extensions that you want/not want it to open with ...etc
can't say the same for windows media player though !!! ... I hate it with a passion ... crappy video size ... what's with the NO PLAYLIST ??? and it won't play AVI  ... and on and on ...etc !!
there are way better 3rd party softwares for your medias !!!
TCPMP is the most versatile ... but not much on the GUI ... best of all .. it is FREE ;)
Conduits PocketPlayer is great ... but it's not free ;)
omaralt
8th June 2007, 05:59 AM
i know, i already did that, and it still wont find those files. the weird thing is i have 3 video files in the same folder, all the same type and everything, and it detects two of them through tcpmp and 1 through media player....

I downloaded the cab to my computer and then copied it to my device. I browsed to the file from file explorer and installed it on my T-Mobile Dash. I then played a video full-screen and it works wonderfully. Thanks a million! FYI...I installed an app unlocker, then SmartEdit registry editor and tried the registry modifications listed above but it would not let me add a new key 'Rotation' to HKLM\System\GDI. I don't really know if my device is really application unlocked. But my landscape video works now without rotating 90 degrees so I am happy.

Ok, So after some comparison of Vtap and Ytpocket, I would have to say that Vtap is overall more convenient, just for the fact that all the buffer settings and such are already set for you. Ytpocket allows you to set the buffers and you kind of have to play with them in order to get everything as to where you want it.

Micros, all you need are 2 things...well 3 if you're downloading videos off youtube like I did
1. TCPMP (AKA Core Media Player) (STOP using Windows Media Player on the Dash...it sux point blank)
2. Total Video Converter (your best friend because you can choose file types and also control frame rates and bit rates etc of videos you want to convert!)
3. www.keepvid.com if you're converting youtube and dailymotion videos etc
Get these 3, and you'll be happy! For the bitrate, I set mine to about 650 and frames to 30 frames a sec...AVI Mp4 videos FTW!

This new YouTube video player form my understanding will work on all smartphones and pocketpc device with a JAVA application. The new YouTube video player is not available for windows mobile devices yet. You can check from time to time using your mobile web browser going to http://m.youtube.com/app. You will have to download the new YouTube player form the mobile YouTube web site to your mobile device when it becomes available, which should be very soon. I have seen pictures of the new youtube video player and it looks very good.

Does anyone know hot to get the HTC streaming player to play videos in portrait mode on the Dash? Full screen is done in landscape and distorts the picture.
Thanks

ThanksJust go to Menu> Options and uncheck mark or check mark the box by the rectangle box , where it explain about the full screen mode or portrait mode. If I may add, the player that I'm offering in my 3gp thread is much better than the old out dated black HTC streamingPlayer and my new player works on a Edge network, wifi, 3g, T-Mobile's $5.99 wap data plan and the video resolution quality on my player is light years ahead, you will not have that distorted picture with the blue-ray screen video player. Also now I have a download for all the dll files for the HTC StreamingPlayer in my thread.

Thanks- I missed that one... I already have the 2.1 version of the HTC player, but all I did was install it and sites work fine streaming video. I did not have to do all of things you mentioned in your guide, but noticed the guide after I was already using the player. No harm no foul.

No harm no foul. You have the older black screen HTC StreamingPlayer 2.1 version. The instructions in my thread is for another higher enhaced modified version, its still version 2.10, the only difference, I have made serveral modification changes. That's why I named it the blue ray screen video player.

Try either the TCPMP Media Player (get and use the Flash/FLV plugin), or vTap. Both solutions allow one to extract and view the media from several major video sharing sites. vTap also gives an easier way to read Wikipedia articles.
TCPMP, and it's flash plugin, can be found, @ http://www.mobytube.net/
I don't recall where I found the vTap program.
Of the two, vTap is easier to setup and use. TCPMP is awesome, however, and should not be overlooked. Windows Mobile 6 users will need two additional files, in order to play Windows Media files.

for the vTap program, the site url is http://www.vtap.com
If you go to it from the device it auto detects and prompts the cab download. Just dl myself, and it's pretty nice.

Yeah, it's very possible. Like Clyde said, that post has one of the streaming media players created by a user named Technology. He has some others as well which will allow you to access streaming video such as YouTube. You'll have to download a 3rd party player to access this streaming media.

I guess your aim is to get to be able to watch clips on Youtube.com, but it's a common issue for Smartphone and PPC that we- the users can't do it as simply as we do on desktop. I've had this trouble for quite a long time until I accidentally run into this site http://ytpocket.com/ . It directs you how to watch youtube.com clips via itself, which means you can go to this site and do the searchs, watch the clips as indentically as how you do it with youtube.com on your PC.
Following this site's instruction, I downloaded TCPMP 0.72RC1 for Smartphone and the flv plugin needed to play flash files on youtube. However, I've found that the plugins bundled with this package are not all, so I came here and there, gathered all the plugins that enable me to play almost all types of media files out there and repacked it into a file I'm gonna upload on here below. As long as the files are not very power-demanding, you can play them decently, nearly the DVDrip quality with an appropriate video converter (on PC). So, you just need to download my attached file, extract it into a folder and copy it onto your PPC and run the player.exe inside. Remember to configure its settings as directed on ytpocket.com and also its media associated files. You can create a shortcut for it in Start Menu for convenient usage.
P.S: Sometimes there may be errors playing clips on there, you just need to quit TCPMP, refresh that page on your PIE and try it again.

I have not been able to get the cab file originally posted by oldsap to fix my video's 90* rotation. How does the -setup.xml 'run' once it's placed in the AppData>Home folder?

Add the following new Key "Rotation" under HKLM\System\GDI e.g. [HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation] Then add this Dword "LandscapeMode" =0
That will fix the problem. I use Total Commander for my reg edits.
