Athena SPL Downgrader - finally

well, so I found out how to fully automate the process. sorry for the waiting, I was busy with life & some diamond and shift stuff :)
you can now just run an EXE that does all the downgrading and the modelid/wifi restore. no manual lnbs needed.


Description:
this uses a special SSPL, should be also OK in place of the original AthenaWrapper (or Unlocker Step 1), but I recommend you only use it for downgrade purposes.

this package includes:
- NBH to flash back to HardSPL 1.20.Olipro. can be replaced with other SPL NBH's but only with ones that are older than SPL 3.xx are recommended. this is only designed for SPL flash however, do not try other NBH types.
- SSPL which automates the restoring of wifi and modelid, which otherwise would always get corrupt when downgrading from SPL 3.xx. do not try to use another SSPL or you will corrupt your modelid and wifi and you will have to use manual tools (the Athena MAC BIN generator that I wrote & posted earlier) to restore them.
- RUU tailored to these needs. do not try to use another RUU for this purpose. also do not try using this RUU for anything else.
- BIG WARNING: do not even try to run this for any device other than Athena (not even the x7510). (I had to remove all modelid checking.) I do not take responsibility for such moronity (or any other kind of moron actions).


STEP BY STEP:

0. flash AP3newSPL OS image in preparation: http://htc-hackers.com/uploads/ap3newspl.zip
1. make sure Athena is running WM and synced with Activesync. do not try entering bootloader mode manually at this point! the way the Downgrader works relies on this.
2. extract the downloaded zip from Attachment to this post, you'll find an SPLDowngrader.EXE inside. run that EXE on your PC, now Athena should go to tricolour screen saying OliNex SSPL.
3. let the RUU flash.
3-TroubleShooting: if the RUU won't see device, uncheck the advanced functionalities in usb-to-pc settings in settings on the Athena.
4. it will reboot and also will hard reset your device. you will need to flash an OS compatible with old SPL now. if you are not sure how to do that, see "Extra help" below. after that, job is done.
5. +1: you should verify the modelid and SPL version is correct (ATHE100 and 1.20.Olipro). see "Extra help" below on how to enter bootloader mode to check.


Extra help: steps to help with flashing an OS if someone never flashed from bootloader before:
0. do not freak out if the OS isn't booting after downgrade. depends on what OS was on it before. maybe you will only get black screen but do not worry, read further:
1. you should manually enter SPL, by holding camera key (ALL THE WAY IN!!) while resetting. hold it until tricolour screen appears.
2. then use some other RUU / ROM package to flash an OS compatible with old SPL. job done.



NOTE 1: if the exe doesn't run then download and install .net framework from microsoft.com.

NOTE 2: if you just want to restore stock SPL, you must do it this way:
1. flash with this downgrader, with unchanged package.
2. flash OS compatible with old SPL 1.20.Olipro. this can be a stock OS.
3. use usual methods to restore stock SPL. this must be the last step, run only after you've restored stock OS!!!


Planned:
- dedicated stock SPL downgrade package
- dedicated SPL 3.50 upgrade package
these are all available already, just need userfriendly EXE package.

I edited step 4 to make it more clear - hopefully now you will see what is needed. :) let me know if still not clear enough.


(P.S: just to give background, RUU without manual bootloader entering will only work if WM is running because the RUU pushes enterbootloader.exe to the device which then puts the Athena in bootloader mode for flash without the user having to do anything. the exe will of course only run if there is an OS running under it.)

sticking with 3.5 for now, we have HTC stock, Ameo WM6 stock, and pawel's good work, and Irus's roms. Why swap?
NOW, have you got XP ROM onto Athena yet, if not why not:D

Just reflash with AP 4.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387409) again, you will have to go through all the upgrade again to get SPL 3.5 back on. Keep in mind if Pawel comes up with a new rom it may well need SPL 3.5 on to use it. I personaly think its worth waiting.

Just reflash with AP 4.0 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=387409) again, you will have to go through all the upgrade again to get SPL 3.5 back on. Keep in mind if Pawel comes up with a new rom it may well need SPL 3.5 on to use it. I personaly think its worth waiting.

However, I do not know how to switch back to the WM. If I press volume bottom and soft reset hole at the same time, I only get black screen with green light on. Someone can help me!

When you were in boatloader ..... I thought you were just only suppose to hit soft reset without the camera button.

Try that!

EDIT: I'm sorry panvita I read your post wrong. I thought you already flashed after the downgrade and you were only just checking to make sure you downgraded successfully by going to the boatloader screen. oops!

You need to finish the rest of step 4 (or goto the extra help) and flash a 1.2 Rom

wish you had read the forum more times ;)
it is well known that depending on the SPL version you have to get the correct rom version or you will get reset loop. AP4 is only for the newer SPL for now.

I just downgraded from spl 3.5 to 1.2. Available program memory: 143.79MB

there is a constant customization loop that causes the device to hardreset everytime. I had that problem with spl3.5 and thought that as I downgrade back to spl1.2 all should be good, but its still there.

Is there anyway I can get back all my available memory and stop this hardreset loop?

edit: even if i don't get back all the program memory, I just want this customization loop to stop. however, I believe the two are related, I think if one is fixed the other will sort itself out....

Put your Athena to bootloader mode (rainbow screen). You can verify whether SPL is back to v1.2 on screen.
Prepare to flash a rom (e.g. AP3 or others with SPL1.2).
connect to your pc. In bootloader screen, you will see USB instead of serial mode. Flash it.

After flash completed, let Athena finished all customising.
Then ActiveSync with your pc as usual and proceed to flash again with any latest rom with SPL1.2

you seem confused.

1) what you keep calling program memory is storage memory.
2) 144MB is normal for SPL 1.20. on 3.50 you have about 120MB.
3) heed pdajoy's advice.

Sorry about that, I meant "available storage memory", after downgrade from spl 3.50 to 1.2 I only see 143.79MB instead of the 144.04 that it should be. I had the hardreset loop with 3.5 and still having it after I downgraded. looking though the posts I see that I'm not the only one who has downgrade and still have the HR loop and the loss of some storage memory, I saw another person with exactly the same 143.79 as I have....please help.

thank you for the advice but this I already know. spl is verified to be 1.2, I'm running irus's stripped down sogarth's latest. love that rom because I'm able to use GSen with it.

no, its the right spl version. when I had spl3.50 it had the reset loop, the only way to get out of it is to hit the reset hole before the customization came up. Now that downgraded to spl1.2 I'm still getting the same problem when I use the release for spl1.2.

I wanted to go back to SPL1.2 (from 3.5) to load the MichyPrima 1.88 Rom which requires 1.2

I had the AP4 ROM, I flashed my 7500 to the AP3newspl ROM and then ran the SPLdowngrader. It runs all the way to the Rom Update progress screen and stays at 0% for about 30 secs and then reports Error [202] - Connection. It complains that I have not connected my phone. As I had just flashed to AP3 and can always sync I must be connected. Tried many times.

Please advise if I have missed something

I solved my error 202 - acknowledging renega who posted the fix.

"when I unchecked advanced functionalities in usb-to-pc settings on the 7500" and tried the SPLdowngrader again, eveything worked just as (you) described.

I even had the obligatory panic when my 7500 appreared completely dead for a few moments needing a hard reset. I also had continuous rebooting of the AP3 Rom -till I forced the 7500 into the tri-colour screen and RUU-ed with thw new ROM.

Would you please consider adding the unchecking note to your instructions to save any body else a wasted 6 hours.

I am now at SPL 1.2 and Michyprima's 1.88 Rom

Thanks that fixed the problem.. wi fi working again..

just in case some one else has the same problem do not bother re-flashiing back to ap4 spl 3.5 as it did not fix the problem.

I ve run the downgrader but now I m stuck in my bootloader screen. It says:

I ve tried to install a 1.2 compatible ROM (Athena_SPL1.2_WWE_WM6.1_2.04D-MiChY).
When running the ROM update utility I get this notification after 1% completing:





I ve tried to reinstall Actice sync as posted as a possible solution earlier. This doens t help with me.

Any thought?

ps. Because of the fact that the updater runed to 1% already I cannot get into my old ROM anymore. So I only can get in the USB or SERIAL bootloader by pressing camera/reset......

I have the same problem. Now I can not install the stock update of HTC or anything.. And my phone does not start either... I tried to install HTC Advantage-Advantage_HTC_WWE_2.21.405.2_1.50.00.00_Ship

sorry for late reply - here it is (attached)

use athenawrapper (i.e. the original hardspl package!) to flash it, by replacing the RUU_Signed.NBH file after the wrapper package extracts.

If you read through the thread the modelID sometimes gets corrupted

by the way , the downgrade did work and you have to apply the code for SPL 1,2

Please i need your help,
I have htc advantage x7500, and I unlock it with unlocked tools, i upgrade it to ap4, it was work perfectly....but have one big problem that micro drive always miss data, but I don’t care for that and bought 8g memory card,
but after 2 weeks work in ap4 and suddenly the x7500 hanging and lose all contact and all message, i try soft & hard reset but not useful, am trying to downgrade to original rom but after downgrade the device hanging to and do many restart,
Now I take it to warranty and they told me that I tiring to unlock the SPL and they will try to lock it again but may be I lose the motherboard.
Now I don’t know what can I do. And I need your advice

hy guys i want to return to the original rom (because i want greek keyboard) i start the process and i managed to downgrade my spl frm 3.5 to 1.2 olipro but i dont know what o do next in order to get the original spl and radio version please help....

I know this thread has been dead for a little while but ... if there is anyone out there who could help?

I am trying to downgrade to get the original ROM back on the thing. The reason is that I have found the 6.5 ROMs just a little bit too slow in use.

I have managed to get the ap3newspl rom on the thing - actually, not a bad 6.x ROM, so I am quite happy with things so far.

Now I run the downgrader: I get a grey screen, it says "Loading ... " at the top, but then the PC returns Error 260 saying it cannot connect to the device.

I have unchecked the Advanced thing in the USB-Connections screen.

I have run out of ideas - anyone out there with some inspiration?

IGNORE ALL THE ABOVE: PROBLEM SOLVED AFTER A FEW REBOOTS
