Hikey

I replaced the XIP part in Dr. Martin's ROM with new XIP 20202
I nerver change anything except XIP.

New rom download from:
Skydrive (http://cid-a1a90089a13d3cad.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/Vox/windows%20mobile%206.1%20v1.1.zip)

Why I do this ?
Because the new XIP is speed up.
The file list speed increased 58%

Downloading now, will report any issues. I'll be forcing a Sprite Backup to this, so hopefully it works, if all that was done is a new XIP then I don't see why it wouldn't.

The Vox community thanks you for your work.

Good job Hikey. Improvement is visible in Resco files listing. :)

Also since u only touched XIP, you saved my lot of time. Just taking sprite backup of Gonzo 6.1 and installing your ROM and restoring backup, thats it.
No reinstallations. Special thanks! :D

Yes. 6.1 backup from the original 6.1 worked. File R/W is so much faster, extremely noticeable. I highly suggest anybody running 6.1 V1 to upgrade to this.

If you updated to this rom, you can not find any change except the version No. in start>>settings>> about

And the speed of default explorer will not change, must use resco explorer
because of the lack of 20202 SYS part.

actually , i have my own rom.
but it's chinese default.

I just updated from Dr. Martin's ROM to this one, WOW is all I can say. This thing is fast, everywhere, not just File Read/Write, but everything is snappy! Flashed it, then did a restore from a Sprite backup, all worked like a charm. I'm even running at fastest clock speed. NO problems. Great job Hikey.

can sprite backup sucessfully restore the applications (shortcuts etc) which are installed in mem card?
Secondly, the sprite back up which came free with the phone is not installing saying " to upgrade ROM". Axctually I am on Gonzo's 6.1 v1.1 ROM. I think that's why the bundled software is not installing.
Any suggestions.

This xip size is smaller than Dr Martin's
I resized the ini*.dat and rgu files, removed the second boot screen(the WM6.0 one).
so you have more RAM after boot.

I flashed the ROM and restored from backup. Everything worked smooth. The ROM is indeed faster. Good job done Hikey. Kudos to you,

Just updated from Dr Martins v1.1 to this one.. does seem quicker in general to me.

Did a backup, flashed it, restored backup.. didn't take long.

Start menu and file listing are defiantly quicker though. Nice Work!!

I've also just gone from Dr. Gonzo's to this and definitely seems snappier. Thanks.

I run several apps from my SD card, and after restore they all work as they did prior to flash and restore. So I'd have to say the answer is YES, Sprite can restore them.

Answer to your second question. The Sprite you got with the original won't restore because you have flashed to Gonzo's 6.1. It's a different ROM image so Sprite can't do anything with it. Only if you are on Gonzo, then backup, then flash with XIP, can you restore from the backup. To get the HTC apps you'll have to go find the HTC apps you want and reinstall. Not sure what they have that you'd want to keep. Gonzo's ROM has better applications already.

I've installed it now and it works really nice!
I didn't use "sprite beckup" because I have had a lot of programs installed that I don't need.
Thanks Hikey!

Thanks, this is my first try at a custom ROM and although I had some trouble flashing at first (don't use folder names with spaces) it eventually flashed fine. I also applied the updated Radio_4.1.13.54_03.10.90.exe after flashing and now have the latest Radio as well. All in all, no problems so far.. phone is MUCH faster than it was before and there are lots of nice features in 6.1. Also syncs perfect with my Exchange server, etc. :)

Here are my notes for the install:

- Extract windows mobile 6.1 v1.1.zip.

- Run SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe from the SDA_ApplicationUnlock directory and reboot the device.

- Run uspl_116_jockyw.bat from the VOX_USPL directory and make sure there are no errors. If error overwriting a DLL then problem is most likely that SDA_ApplicationUnlock.exe was not run first and device was not rebooted.

- Now run FLASH.exe from the root of the extracted files. Make sure FLASH.exe is in a directory accessible by DOS.. so no long directory name and no spaces in the directory name or the flash process will fail!

Check the Settings / About screen.. Now the HTC should have:

CE OS 5.2.20202 (Build
19202.1.0.0) made by Dr. Martin
Gonzo (www.xda-
developpers.com)

Radio Version 4.1.13.37_02.83.90

---------------------------------------------

To upgrade the radio to version 4.1.13.54_03.10.90 do the following:

- Run "Radio 4.1.13.54_03.10.90.exe" and extract all files. Rename the "Radio 4.1.13.54_03.10.90" to just "Radio" as long directory names and names with spaces will cause the flash process to fail!

- From "windows mobile 6.1 v1.1.zip" extract the SDA_ApplicationUnlock and VOX_USPL directories.

- Now run FLASH.exe from the "Radio" directory to start flashing.

I'll get my S710 in a few days(the S730 wasn't available and not worth the extra money in my eyes) and you just wrote exactly what I wanted to hear ;-)

I'll upgrade my S710 as soon as I get it :)

try Fireburned Neo 0.9 with XIP 20202, you will get surprised to see how slow is your existing 6.1 ROM

Hi there,

last night the phone powered itself off for the second time this week!!
I don't liket this "feature". Does anyone else have this problem?

I didn't have any troubles with the original 6.1 rom. I'll go back to the original rom to see if the problem lies in the rom or in my vox.

Same thing happens to me with this new ROM. I suspect it's the ROM, not the device. I'll mess with Turbo control, set it to automatic CPU speed. At fixed speed of highest, it would power off every 5 minutes. Heat related perhaps. I'm experimenting.

Update: reloaded Gonzo with XIP 20202 update and set CPU speed to automatic, with low speed NOT set to 132 (that seems to hang the device). Changed to next higher speed, set high speed to highest, 228. Have been doing WiFi browsing, lots of File Explorer, etc., no hangs yet. Been running this way for 30 min. now, prior to these changes and using the XIP ROM I would hang after 2 minutes, device would simply power down!

@ cease: I saw your post in the other thread. Do i understand it right, is the phone not powered off, but just the screen going black? Could be possible.

Thinking about that, the phone didn't power up when pressing the powerbutton at first. Had to try a couple of times. So if the phone was still "alive" it first shutdown when pressing the powerbutton and then power on again. hmm.

anyway, it seams a problem with this rom afterall ?

What you say makes some sense, but I think mine was actually powering off. No lights on. And just holding the power button in turned it back on with plenty of battery power available. Now that I have reloaded the 6.1 ROM with XIP, and the Turbo set to automatic, I've had no problems.

Setting Turbo mode to automatic or not automatic seems to have no effect contrary to what I said above. I've been trying a lot of things to recreate and there seems to be no common action. I did notice this morning that with the phone in flight mode it didn't happen. Problem seems to be related to powering on/off one of the radios depending on what one is doing. Still investigating.

I have a problem with this rom. Before this rom I used the original 6.1 Dr. Gonzo rom, but now if I call or get called i hear a buzz(kind of: zzzzzz) sound. But NOT in the whole conversation.. Only in the first half minute or something..

Does anyone else has the same problem (maybe it comes with radio update)? And how to solve it?
Or is it just MY device, maybe it's broken?

There seems to be a problem with this ROM. When I install it, my phone powers off after use, especially when using WiFi, but other times as well. It does not appear to be related to anything I have loaded as I removed "stuff" and still had the machine turn off. I did re-flash using the NEO ROM and I do not have the problem; I also did not have the problem with Dr. Martin's ROM. That tells me it's not my device so must be this ROM.

I've re-flashed my S710 with the original/updated HTC (latest) ROM and it no longer powers itself off. All the other ROMs, posted here (Dr. Martins, Dr. Martins with XIP, NEO with XIP) cause my VOX to power off intermittently, no matter what is running or installed; even fails when clean, no other programs installed. Something in the updated ROMs is causing the power down. I'm on HTC for now.
=====================
I've tried all ROMS, even the original HTC update, they all fail; I suspect it is hardware and related to power; I've ordered a new battery.
