I am looking at purchasing this case i was wondering if anyone could give me the run down on it? I ended up buying a tilt becuase i am a tech fan and a hoobiest programmer, a gadget lover, im not a buisness man. I am a commercial electrition during the day and drive pizzas at night. I really love the tilts gps and i use it to listen to podcasts and internet radio in the car. I currently own a leather belt clip case i keep the tilt in most of the time, but im looking for a case solution when im out doing elctrical work. This includes anything from pulling huge cables to digging ditches.

I usually end up going through phones twice a year i beat them up at work pretty bad. I wont be using this monaco as a primary case just while im out in the field. I bascially just need to use my kaiser as a phone and maybe some texting when its in this case. I found the case here http://www.tiltdepot.com/att-tilt-metal-cases.htm the review said it limits the touch screen functionality. So what im wondering is will i be able to still use the creen i mean i just need to be able to use handwriting recognition and some acuall touch support in spb shell and finger based vistual KB's. How does this limit the touch screen?

aA;so how much bulk does this add becuase im also going to need to put the phone in a pouch or something to keep dirt out of the buttons.

I don't have any experience with this case to share I'm afraid. One of the common complaints with metal cases is signal attenuation. You might want to look at one of the Otterbox cases, but you'll still have to pull it out to use the keyboard.

hey buddy. I got a metal case from an australian company called pdair. I've had it since i bought the phone a couple of months ago. It's saved it many times and it doenst hurt the signal at all. BUT, it does have a polycarbonate cover so it does hurt the touchscreen function, but i just use the D-pad anyway. http://www.pdair.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=10100000_900000_11000164&products_id=6561

Is the outter box 8000 the one for the tilt? can you hear the phone ring in the outerbox.

Christian see im just wondering if the touchscreen works at all how much does it impair the phone? Im not really worried about the signal anyways im not going to be using the phone in this case all the time. I dont plan on surfing the net or anything while im trying to pull wires down 4 stories of building. Just need to be able to send or recive calls and texts. I think i could deal with flipping the case open and using the keyboard but im still curious how well the touch screen works.

in short I say buy this case. I have this same monaco case and I love it. I work in a warehouse mostly sometimes on a roof helping install solar panels and such, much the same as you im sure with the wire everything from #12 to 600mil. I don't do a lot of pulling but am around it all day and conduit and a forklift oh you get te picture.

this case provides the most protection I can imagine and still have the phone functionable. my case hase seen the concrete from about 10 ft and no problems. scratches of coarse but phone was un harmed.

in short great case great protection and a great buy for me I purchased mine about 2 months ago and I paid $14 or so pre ship on ebay.

get it you won't regret it.
(if you do ill buy it from you)

hope this helps.

mrphat, can you still use the touchscreen at all?? that is what i really want to know, how much it limits the touch screen.

I mean im going to need a tuff case no matter what, not so worried about dropping it, but sliding 4 750s over leg while they get tugged down a pipe is enough to crack the screen in a leather case.

The Pdair case protects/covers the whole phone(including touchscreen) but leaves the access features accessible (i.e. D-pad, answer/end buttons, stylus. etc). You can hear the phone very well and at work i just use the D-pad to answer the phone. Since i have an S2U2 all i do is get it out of standby and i can check quick vitals that way. :D . Whenever i get a text or something like that, i just open the case and use the phone that way.

After looking at the monaco case, it's EXACTLY the same as the pdair case. Both are aluminum and both have the polycarbonate screen protector.

I originally bought an aluminum case for my Tilt because I wanted the extra protection. In my experience:

* All of the aluminum cases I've seen appear to be pretty much the same. eBay is littered with them for about a quarter of the price that Tilt Depot is charging. Search "Tilt aluminum case"

* You can use about 90% of the device's features with the Dpad and other keys, but you can't dial the phone without opening the cover.

* I did experience about a one-bar loss in signal with the phone in the case vs. the phone not in the case.

* The case that I had was slippery as heck. I wound up attaching a wrist strap to the phone and would never use the device without strapping in first.

* The aluminum case is a little bulky.

I switched to a rubberized case and don't miss the aluminum nearly as much as I thought I would.

You probably need the extra protection for your day job, and the aluminum case will certainly provide it. Trust me, though, trying to flip open the cover and dial the phone one-handed while you're driving is a huge pain in the rear, not to mention dangerous.

well what about these outerbox cases can you hear the phone ring will they fit in your pocket?

I mean im going to have to keep the aluminum case in a pouch anyways beacuse i work in palm springs wich is all desert and any underground work is in sand, so i have an issue with dirt getting in the buttons too. If im going to be taking the phone out of a case to dial might as well take it out of one instead of two.

questions been pretty much answered I guess and yes the case needs to be opened to use the touch screen , but trust me it is easy to get acustomed to. as the poster said a few posts up it does work well with s2u2 and the dpad.

forgive me if im wrong but is there a otterbox case made for this device specifically?. I know the ones I've seen are pretty generic and very bulky.

I have mine in the case and I purchased a leather pouch for a BB Curve from the Dollar Tree for a buck its real cheap fake leather so I bought like 4 of them. I just slide it in there. the belt clip is sturdy but doesent allow you to set it down and use it. maybe this helps ?

I also agree that pretty much all of the cases (aluminum) are the same I just happen to own the monaco.
