View Full Version : Invisible protection for my Diamond : which one ?

MonteCristoffOn

Hi,

As the Diamond is smooth and stylish, I don't really want to hide it in any horrible case or hard-protection (*)...
However, I want to put it on my pocket and protect it from scratches with my keys and a lot of others stuffs :D

So,
what's the offer ?
what's your choice ?
what's your advice ?

Currently avalaible :
Zagg Invisible Shield (full body coverage) (http://www.zagg.com/invisibleshield/htc-touch-diamond-cases-screen-protectors-covers-skins-shields.php)
Clear-Coat Scratch Protection (full body) (http://www.clear-coat.com/product.php?productid=448&cat=0&page=1)
BodyGuardZ Scratch-Proof Transparent Protection (full body) (http://http://www.bodyguardz.com/HTC_Touch_Diamond_p/nl-bhtc-0708.htm)
Other ?
Home made ? (let us know how you do it yourself...)

(let me know if I forgot one...)

(*) Perhaps except if Vaja (http://www.vajacases.com/home/home_en.html) listen to us, I hope they'll have some nice projects for the Diamond, as their ivolution for the i***** ;)

Neither of these are really "invisible". For the back & sides they will do maybe, for the front use good screen protector.

I bought the invisibleShield Full Body, but not received!
Took 3 weeks for mee too, eventually I did receive it. I emailed them to ask why it took so long and just to be sure, they sent me a 2nd one for free.
I had it on for 1,5 days, took it off completely and replaced it with the boxed screenprotector. Way better, read my previous posts on this on the inivisibleSHIELD topc.

Anyone know where the original HTC screen protector can be purchased? Friend of mine didnt get one in the box and mine was applied a bit badly ;) Can they be removed and washed?

Ideally you should use a combination, you should get the invisible shield for is back protection and apply it on the faceted back to protect that from scratches. BUT don't use the invisible-shield on the front/screen, as it bonds too strongly with the screen and also its optical properties are not that great, as a result the screen images are not displayed to their best due to distortion form the shield, so for the front i recommend using the Martin Fields screen and button protector. Martin fields protectors are the very best for screen protection while maintaining screen clarity (a well documented point)

cheers,

i have already written about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=401745

but in short, the MF protector is a fraction clearer and possibly a bit better in sunlight too, it also covers the front facing camera (a good thing in my book) only bad side is that initially it does feel fractionally more grippy when sliding your finger across the screen (only slightly more, unlike the invisibleSHIELD which is like rubber lol) but this goes away after some usage. You also get a protector for the buttons below the screen. - and i have noticed that it does not pick up scratches easily, unlike the in-box protector which does.

Ive tried different screenprotectors now but none of them are realy good. even though they say they are scratchfree, they arent, especially the htc boxed one, only after two days it was so scratched up from the stylus that i had to replace it with an aftermarket one. that one lastet like two weeks, again totally scratched from the stylus. i then thought it was the stylus ,so i used the other one in the box after i put on another new screenprotector on! this time from brando,i got it along with the crystalcase i bought. also this one isnt scrathfree as they say on the package and now after a week of use i have scratches again, most of them light some others deep. so whats the problem, the stylus or the screenprotectors?

Ingvarr
13th July 2008, 12:52 AM
Your stylus seem to be the source of problem. You defenitely must have no scratches after just a week of use. Maybe there is something wrong with your stylus tip, like some hard incluse.

Screen protectors are not absolutely scratchproof, generally I replace mine like once in half a year. But still cheaper to replace a screen protector then screen ;)

funny i ordered mine last thursday and got it today 6 days later?
i live in the uk dont know if that would make a difference!?
i also opted for not applyingthe screen cover from invisible shield , i'm just using the htc standard one so far its ok with one scratch after two weeks.

must say that the invisible shield is superb! i couldnt even mark it with a sharp sheath knife. no i didnt test it like that while on my diamond! just some of the spare the protector is punched from!

One other thing that is really nice.....IT HIDES FINGER PRINTS!!!!!!!

The HTC one was good, but a real pain to wash (tried to clean after bad applying, and had to throw it away )

Just got some Brando Ultra Clear, and I'm pleased : really easy to apply, front and back protection.
Didn't notice any scratch til now. On ly - slight - problem, is that they get qui dirty quickly (fingerprints)

I totally agree with you. I've the invisible shield after two weeks just the same day that my diamond arived. it took me a full hour to apply it. getting really annoying but there is enough liquid spray to do it two times. There's a piece of rubber included to get all of the air out that works great. it took 2 weeks for the back of the phone to lose the rubber feeling and (after 4 weeks) there is still it on the front. overall the shield is great. With this thing your phone is really scratchless. The micro air bubbels disappear in a week on the back. If you aply it good there are no bubbels on the front

This thread is talking about full body invisible protections and not restricted to screen protectors...

Thanks to tell us your experience about it.

As there are 45 votes for InvisibleSHIELD I'd say it'd be safe to assume there is...:)

Anywayz, there is a thread on it, with some nice photos...

Oh, and could one of the 3 with the Bodyguardz please post some photos. I hear they have less of the orange peel effect that the InvisbleSHIELD has. Also curious how they fit, there seem to be alot of pieces.

Thank you.

My apologies, you meant the O2 Diamond... sorry.
I'm new, please play nice. :D

Not belittling the other brands but I've been using invishield for over a month now.

It's perfect for me. It completely protects my phone, it looks great, other than a little orange peel on the back (because it's black) you can't really tell it's there.

It's grippier so I don't drop my phone. It WON'T scratch. For the first month or so, I had to make a conscious effort to remember to put the phone in my right front pocket and my keys in my front left pocket in fear of scratching my phone.

Now, it's of no concern now... I don't worry about it getting scratched.

I will tell you this, it takes patience and a little bit of time to install it correctly.

Follow the directions and it works fine.

The Bodyguardz is quite fiddly but it has lots of little pieces to also cover the buttons.

No orange peel effect that I have noticed.

No effect on the feedback on the touch screen either.

So its all good!

I like to use it coz then I dun have to be so careful with my stylus! Especially on the bus where you do end up jabbing it when the bus moves.

- now I have nothing on it - I just have to make sure, that I don't have any metal objects in the same pocket as my HTC Diamond.

:D

They really should have made the glass scratch proof (except for DIAMONDS, that is ;-) ... would have been so much better!

I had the invisible shield for about 2 weeks. Made the Diamond look cheap and ugly and everyone who saw it tought so.

I spent 2 hours applying the shield correctly and gave it enough time to settle in. There were no bubbles or loose edges etc. It just wasn't invisible, the phone lost it's shine and the glue on the edges of the skin attracted.

I removed it yesterday and the phone looks nice again.

I was worried about removing the skin as someone said the glue was strong and might pull the screen off etc, but it was easy.

Just got my invisible shield wrap for my diamond. Yeah it does make the phone look cheap but hey it does the job.

It gives a weird rubbery feel to it though.

I had a Martin Fields screen protector which was great - until I somehow managed to scratch it really badly with the stylus. Go figure.

I now have an Expert Shield screen protector which I am convinced is slightly better.

With the martin fields, there was an area on the rleft of the screen half way down where the stylus was slightly inaccurate. So when SMS'ing and using T9 I would try and press the full stop (in the little 'options bar' that comes up when there is more than once character to choose from) and I'd never be able to press it.

I don't have this problem with the Expert Shield and at half the price of Martin Fields I'm very happy with it and highly recommend it. It actually makes the screen look even better....

tnyynt, can I pay you to apply it for me? I witnessed a paid application of IS (in a store in Hong Kong, that person paid about US$15 for the labor) and it was horrible. The customer just stood there looking appalled and I made the same facial expression beside him (it's a funny scene. The person who did the job looked at us like "hey dude, that's all I am supposed to do. I didn't do anything wrong.") It was like the iphone (yes, of course, not my Diamond) is wrapped perfectly in a shrink wrap.

I'm not using any protection at all (well, on my phone that is). Just be sure to put the phone in your pocket without any metal objects (like keys and such). After 2 months use my phone still looks like new. I figure that the glass should at least hold without protection for a couple of years, after which I'll buy a new phone. A screen protector just doesn't look nice to me, and the horror of applying it wrongly and having bits of glue left after removal just doesn't work for me...

i use these one.
For Both Screen and dialpad.
They fit pretty well and cost very low (only 4 EURo for 6 screen and dialpad protection).
The screen protections are Semi rigid and fit without any air bubble, while the dialpad protection has always air bubbles.

For me the best. i have bought 24 from ebay.http://cgi.ebay.com/6-PACK-LCD-SCREEN-PROTECTOR-FOR-HTC-TOUCH-DIAMOND_W0QQitemZ120298120832QQcmdZViewItem?hash=i tem120298120832&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177 (yeah i hate scratchs also from the protections)

In sunlight its really invisible. its really hard to see the protection.

I really like martin fields, put them on everything I own right now (shift, dual, diamond, pro, polaris, cruise) Takes less than 30 seconds to apply, I am amazed at some people spending hours??? Washable, replaceable with just the right amount of drag.

Hello,

Here is my experience. I had a InvisibleSHIELD on my iPod Classic and it was great so I was considering buying one but after reading some of the the feed back it seemed that the product was good but the fit for our diamonds and even the iPhone (which i am now looking for) was not great.

I then heard about BestSkinsEver and because it was so cheap decided to go ahead and try it. I got it over 2 months ago and when I received it I applied it immediately. I have done a few of these so and since I am some what of a perfectionist I applied it to the best I could. It looked OK but after a few weeks the corners started peeling. Also due to the way the backing is placed it puts stress in areas which causes other areas to lift off (this is mostly on the corners). I ended up using a nail clipper to start clipping areas that were peeling off. After about 2 months it started to peal even more so I decided to go back to the reviews and see what was available. After doing some research I decided to go with the 12 piece BodyGuardz. It came in a set of 2 which is nice when i transfer the phone to my wife.

So all of this is to tell you that my first impressions of the BodyGuardz is well as good as I felt when I put the InvisibleSHIELD on my first iPod Classic. For me it did take a while (about 2-3 hours) to apply. This was not done in one sitting but instead because it was a 12 piece I applied each piece with 10 minute intervals allowing for tackiness to set in and so it would be easier to handle as I continued with the many pieces. First major thing I noticed and was really happy about was the BodyGuardz stickiness was considerably more than the BestSkinsEver. It stuck to the corners almost right away. Although throughout the process I did press down on the corners it was quite a bit easier as the BestSkinsEver did not have good stickiness. Also on a side note when i removed the BestSkinsEver it came of like a sticker which i know from my previous iPod is not normal and it usually takes a lot more effort to get it off carefully. Overall I am very happy at my first impressions of the BodyGuardz and the quality of the material seems to be better than the BestSkinsEver. Not to mention the 12 piece may seem like a lot of work but having individual pieces allows for no stress on the film in weird areas allowing it to sit flat with no parts lifting off (so far, i'll update in a month or two). Which is not the same case for the BestSkinsEver and from what I hear the InvisibleSHIELD. Newayz I hope this review helps someone.
