BRIGHTPHONE FINAL NOTES:
This project started because I got tired of flashing other people's rom creations. I was not using most of the things they cooked up. Simply had no need for those programs. So for the last 3 months I have abused this kitchen to make the most stable rom for myself. Cooking and testing and cooking and testing...
This was once the original kitchen ported and posted by VILLABOY25 back in April. There is not much left of the original settings or rgu's. The UI changed; as well as just about all of the packages; some DLL's; OS graphics, and fixes to things that refused to work. :) I am finally very happy with it. I hope that you will be as well.

(Unless I find that I overlooked something, there will be no more updates. If you find something that does not work, please let me know.)

If you are a beginner, please read the stickies at the top of the forum.
This rom IS G4 safe.
Some programs start slower than others. This is normal. Many of the packages were UPX’ed, and it takes a second to decompress them.
The default today theme was originally set up for a light background with black text. You can fix this by changing it to the WM6.1 theme. All will be well again.
PLEASE ALLOW THE CUSTOMIZATION TO RUN. Opera Mini will not work otherwise; and the fExplore will not be fixed.

Please change the PagePool to 6 mb. The camera app has problems with the 2mb Pagepool for some users. (sorry)

Nice rom. Big Ram about 34mb after a fresh restart. But i found some problems and i did a hard reset but same problem appears. 1) Ok button doesnt respond well even though i re-configured quickmenu option and even used wktask but no luck! And my touchscreen doesnt respond well too. SOmetimes i have to double tap menu buttons. Is it necessary to downgrade to its original rom and then upgrade with this rom? Cuz i didnt do that. :confused:

It has no PIMBACKUP at ADVANCE CONFIG :( I think adjusting the pressure threshold can solve the touchscreen problem i am experiencing.

.That may be because when first boot happens, quick menu starts and you have to left click the D pad to get it to go away.
Try setting screen alingment.
I have never used pim backup because it conflicts with activesync.
advanced config could be usefull I guess, but you can do that with the registry editor located in the programs/tools menu.
setting the screen alignment solved the problem you are experiencing.

one thing I have noticed is that it is slow on boot after you see the today screen. when the ram goes down to 30+ it starts to work fine. Also, please note that I UPXed a few programs like MMS and file explorer, and that MS VoiceCommand is running in the background.

Feel free to change the pagepool if you like (WST), but keep in mind that some progs load slower because they are UPXed, and once they are decompressed they work fast again.
this is meant to be an "everyday" rom. so I included a lot of context menu DLL's and turned on all of the features the ROM and it's programs have to offer; that I knew how. For me the speed is fine. I personaly keep the Pagepool @6mb. but 2 has been stable, and hasn't froze on me after two weeks of intensive using.
I will try to decompress file explorer and MMS (.exe was cut in half by UPX) and see if it will still have some room.

I started working on the 588 rom. so far so good. just some issues with shortcuts that I have to fix. other than that, all seems to work very well. and fast too. still boots slow, but seems stable.

Hey, can u upload the 588 rom coz i was using it, before using yours, and it was quite stable and fast, i used it for almost 1 month.
But please keep the pagepool to 4 mb.

when I am done fixing it up I will post it. so far I have had a problem with some cabs freezing if installed from storage card. could have just been a corrupt cab though.
I agree it is fast; but doesnt seem as stable as the 209 (which may not be fast, but NEVER CRASHED on me) even with a 2 mb P.P.

Best Rom I've tried yet- really stable, and has given my Wizard a new lease of life! thank you vry much- particularly love the Opera Mini tweak, had forgotten how reasonable net surfing with it over gprs is.

I found the opera mini cab on the dev/hacking forum... soon realizing that it can not be cooked into the rom without an aditional cab. :( so I managed to fix it.

Ive been using this rom for 3 days now. i found out yesterday that my phone camera isnt working and i have to press reset button to be able to use my phone again. i've done HR for about 3time already and still i have this camera problem. sometimes it works but most of the time its not. One thing more im happy cuz this has a big Program memory but as i read the pagepool is about 2mb. i dunno what exactly the use of pagepool but is 2mb pagepool okay? is there a possibility that this one could be the reason why the camera is having a problem.

Like I said, I ran this thing for a month straight and did not experience ANY freezing. just short pauses when a couple of the apps would try to start... but eventualy would, and then work fast again.

I doubt it is problem with software (the cam came from 2.26 rom Tmobile)
It could be the PP but I have no reason to suspect it... I could be wrong.
try changing it (pagepool) with wizard service tool and see if it works better.

as I understand, PagePool works like virtual memory by loading the contents of the .exe's into ram. for example, I just managed to take a look at the contents of the camera app. It is full of those ugly Gif buttons. however, in order to display the gif on screen, it has to be decompressed into .bmp into ram (or disk). I believe that is the point of the pagepool.

actualy, I have a question for you: in the quick menu there is a number of programs in the top section... they have "X"'s next to them... how many are there when you are trying to use the camera?

well, it is virtualy the same rom. maybe the new graphics in the sys and oem are draining speed.
It is said that: the lower the PP the better speed/ higher, better stability. I haven't changed much at all in this rom.
Have you changed the page pool yet? does it fix it?

actualy I just fugured out that the UI buttons can be changed to something that doesn't look like it came out of the 80's :)
It is going to take a lot of work to find new suitable graphics, but at least we will finally have a camera in our wizards that looks ok.

the battery seems to drain very quikly with in 12hours.. when ever i check to see what programs are running activesync is there though i have no email push and the only time hooked to the PC was to flash it..

any thoughts?

I found the cab almost ayear ago. so I dont know where to find it anymore. the file explorer extended is cooked into the rom, and the cabfix is just for a small 8kb exe replacement.
Look at the old brightrom thread. there may be a cab in the addons page.

This is the best rom i have tried yet, so far i have tried the slim rom and diamon clean rom.

This rom has been by far, much more respsonsive and faster and loading applications. Previous roms i had trouble with typing really lagging bad all the time, with this one it only lags a tiny bit sometimes.

camera freezes the phone with 2mb pagepool for me too, also every other rom including the original, changing ambiance settings had no effect, once i change the pagepool i hope this works.

The opera mini browser is fantastic, so much faster than explorer mobile, what i have noticed is that there is no save link as, clicking on zip and cab files results in them opening them as a page.

Wifi works, but i have not been able to connect to our secure network at work. Not sure if our wifi was down. I remember with wm5 it would not work with secure networks, then after upgrading to wm6 it started working. I'll need to try again.

Touchflo works great with little lag and responds accuratly most of the time, though i will be changing to ftouchsl as i prefer the kinetic scrolling :)

Threaded messages laggs a bit for a few seconds when first typing, but once its caught up with you is fine, compared to other roms which lagged allot.

Google maps works brilliant! well impressed.

Nice graphics.

Not me, lasting 3 days with some camera usage, half hour of calling/WiFi and about a dozen SMS per day. I have not configured GPRS yet, make sure yours does not stay connected all the time. I will try to update you after trying with GPRS. One more thing I am not connecting the device via USB so there is no USB charging involved.

On the application side I have only added PointUI and battery status (with CPU scaling).

I have tried a lot of ROMs and I think this one is not heavier than any other ROM but I don't have any proof to claim it to be the lightest.

the battery driver I used is from the original wm5 it is totaly stock.

what radio are you using? are you in a place where you loose reception often? that could be it. my battery drained a lot more in San Diego than it does Pittsburgh or New York. but that is because I get better signal in some places than others. If you are in a place where you are sure to loose reception, such as subway/metro; turn the radio off.

Otherwize flash back to WM5 stock rom (2.26) charge the phone using the WALL CHARGER untill the LED turns green. Then flash back to this rom.
You can also try turning the phone off, and then use the wall charger (not USB like wall charger, but the original one that came with the phone) to charge the battery completely through bootloader not OS.

Battery is also the first thing I think of when I flash a new rom. before it was someone elses roms now that I started cooking it is mine. sometimes I just dont come home to charge this thing. :) I have had a problem with this kitchen at first when I noticed that villaboy25 seemed to be missing some drivers. and the battery was crap, wmp didnt play vids, activesync wouldnt chew... and so on. so I basically took every dll from the crossbow and put them where drivers were missing.
I am sorry that you are having battery issues. I understand. I had that problem back in march when I was flashing roms about 3 times daily. and ended up getting a new battery; one for flashing, one for running. I wish there as something I could tell you to do to fix it, but I already put 2 huge posts on this thread alone about battery. How many of those have you tried?

thanks for the reply and yea i tried flashing to the wwe base from htc and than back but still the same issue.. never had it happen before thats why i asked as far as battery draining this quik.. and the only thing i see is the active sync keep on popping running in running programs.. I use the wall charger to charge it and do not sync with anything..

i was using 2.37 and just went back to the 2.25 radio

camera is acceptable although i don't use this 2 mb camera it is poor enough
I tried almost all the Roms in this forum and finally I found the one I'll never change even there'll be newer from you.

I am terribly sorry about some of you having camera problems. all I could say is try reflashing. I am currently working on the 588 rom. and tearing out what is left of my hair. I seem to have lost sonic the hedgehog... maybe it is somewhre in my computer... although finding it will be difficult as I have about 4-5gb of kitchens and roms. some hobby. :)

I remember a while back when my works wifi got redone, i was using wm5 at the time and once they upgraded it, i couldnt connect to the wifi, then after upgrading to wm6 it worked again on my wizard.

Well now with my wizard i was using the slim rom and wifi works, now that i am using brightphone rom its stopped working again?

Everything else works great however.

no problem on the camera thing, don't use it very often anyways. :) And the rest of the rom is superb! Really like it, good speed and stability, good battery life, nice graphics, cool apps like google maps and the opera browser. So I can only say, thanks and keep up the good work! ;)

Strange thing is, after some time (don't know exactly how long, but for sure after a couple of hours), the camera starts working! It seems like it takes a awfull lot of time to load or something. Maybe because it's compressed?


To fix a small problem with WIFI not turning on after one tap in the comm manager set:

when I was getting ready to cook I tossed the OEM onto my storage cad and upxed a lot of the exe's. google maps and java was just a couple of them. I made the judjement call based on size.

I have been working on my camea on the new one for about a week. had issues with wmp playing videos just like the brightrom used to. this camera will not be upxed, but all the dlls are taking up about 6-7 megs. so you can see why I had to upx a lot of the stuff.
between the camera/mms taking about 10 megs; Oem drivers taking about 1-12megs; there is just about less than 10 megs left for other programs.

New feature to be expexted in the new series is diamond smart scroling bluetooth printing outlook enhancement.

...just as soon as I fix the issues I'm experiencing with it. :)

Good news to hear you're working on a new rom. I hope it will be as fast as this one an it doesn't get cluttered to much with useless (for me) programs.

This rom is just perfect the way it is for me, can't you release it with a fixed cam? Or do you think I will like the next one as much as this?? ;)

It should be almost identical to the brightrom, just new os. camera. flash-lite and WMP that will actualy play the videos the camera takes. I just have to fix it and test it. there is a lot to fix at the moment.

in the meantime, did you try to use the camera update I posted? at the bottom of the signature is a link to the thread.

also, I don't know about the difference between the 9100 and the 1825 hardware. I have a tmobile mda, but not a cingular model. could there be slight differences? I dont know. wish I had two devices to test on.
kinda wish I didnt change the pagepool of the rom. the older versions had no complaints at all it seems.
I'm not going to make that mistake again.

try reflashing to 226 rom and then reflash to this one again. I have noticed that when changing the OS from 5 to 6 there is a long pause with the rom update utility at the begining of the flash and then at the end. I am assuming that the first pause is to format/write/finalize instalation. Usualy during an update there is just a very short pause at the begining /write/finalize. so I am assuming that it is merely updating files... that could cause fragmentation and the system will run slower... especially with a flash chip/solid state and not a typical hard drive.
incidentaly, typical hard drives work faster because they operate on an xyz type axis, while solid state drives (flash memory) is linear.

anyway, that is the hypothesis. try it and see if that works.

Well weird behaviour for me:

I loaded this ROM the day it was released, never noticed people are having problems with the camera because it was working for me. I went for a camping trip and took loads of photos all went well. After coming back I saw the camera issues on this thread and all of a sudden the camera was not loading, tried soft-resets and pagepool changes to no avail. Also sending SMS had developed a problem not to show my messages in the thread although they went out. And sometimes I got "Phone busy, wait 15 seconds".

I decided to load the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM (which I had loaded earlier) as you suggested but that procedure failed for some reason and took me to recovery. Part of the process was to remove battery for 3 seconds, the ROM was intact so did not get the bootloader, pressed the camera button and behold, it was working again :) SMS got fixed too. I am waiting for the next version because the newer OS felt more stable and less random scenarios like this one. But the Clean ROM was too clean for my tastes.

I tried some other camera files I found. It is Camera33.zip from another topic. But it seems that I can't replace the camera files in the \windows folder.

Is it possible to extract your rom, than replace the camera files and then create the rom?

If so, I will need to become a basic chef ;)

If you are going to cook, then you may as well just download the 588 kitchen by JVSpank, and Faria's final with pro rom kitchen.

copy the OS nb to where Flash nb0 is located and rename Spanks nb to flash nb0. then drop the OS SYS and ROM folders in place of the old ones. then start cooking.

You should be able to take appart my rom if you need it for packages, but I think some of the files will come out missing because I did not edit the DSM's

I had some free time today, so I tried it (just read your reply). I really want to learn more about cooking but it seems so complicated with XIP and UPX and that kind of stuff ;)

I used Hypercore kitchen to extract your rom, then I replaced the camera folder with the camera33 folder and then flashed the rom.

Had to set the pagepool to 6 mb, but after that it works flawless. Thanks for everything!

EDIT: Crap, I started my victory dance to soon. After a couple of soft-resets I get the same weird camera behaviour as before. Would love to make my own rom btw, but I think it's hard because you need to fix a lot of bugs and that kind of stuff. I had some free time today, so I tried it (just read your reply). I really want to learn more about cooking but it seems so complicated with XIP and UPX and that kind of stuff ;)

I used Hypercore kitchen to extract your rom, then I replaced the camera folder with the camera33 folder and then flashed the rom.

Had to set the pagepool to 6 mb, but after that it works flawless. Thanks for everything!

EDIT: Crap, I started my victory dance to soon. After a couple of soft-resets I get the same weird camera behaviour as before. Would love to make my own rom btw, but I think it's hard because you need to fix a lot of bugs and that kind of stuff. dont give up so quickly . did you take it appart into SYS and OEM? or just Xdump?

Use the X dump; take the HV and convert it to RGU. then open it with notepad and read the contents. after a while it will start to make sence to you. fix what you need, then convert it back into HV, and while cooking, toss the contents if the Xdump with the new HV into the temp folder. then continue cooking. it is really fun. like playing chess or legos with abstract things that dont really exist. :)

This project started because I got tired of flashing other people's rom creations. I was not using most of the things they cooked up. Simply had no need for those programs. So for the last 3 months I have abused this kitchen to make the most stable rom for myself. Cooking and testing and cooking and testing...
This was once the original kitchen ported and posted by VILLABOY25 back in April. There is not much left of the original settings or rgu's. The UI changed; as well as just about all of the packages; some DLL's; OS graphics, and fixes to things that refused to work. :) I am finally very happy with it. I hope that you will be as well.

Some programs start slower than others. This is normal. Many of the packages were UPX’ed, and it takes a second to decompress them.
The default today theme was originally set up for a light background with black text. You can fix this by changing it to the WM6.1 theme. All will be well again.
PLEASE ALLOW THE CUSTOMIZATION TO RUN. Opera Mini will not work otherwise; and the fExplore will not be fixed.

This is an awesome piece of work! I love the miniopera built right in and the google maps...however i do have one small problem. The Calendar function has no place to define am/pm at all. Therefore i have no way of using the calendar function. I really hope that i can fix it. Everything else is exactly what i need. I really want to keep this rom if i can fix the calendar. btw i have reflashed it twice and have had same problem both times. I also flashed back to tmobile wm5 official everytime.

Ill look into it when I have time. there may just be an issue with this rom being in military time before. that option may not exist in it. You may be able to fix the issue by fixing the time to show a 24hr clock, the way it was.

sorry about that. that issue was not noticed on the old brightrom thread.
in fact, I released this "final" because on the old thread, nobody noticed any issues. and those that were noticed I fixed. go figure.
I hope that when I actualy release my 588 people will notice things like this before I call it "final". and I won't start on a new project.

I'm not asking for anything special, Pictures&Videos program that comes with WM is supposed to show a thumbnail for videos. It does in all other ROMS (WM5 or 6). Also, when you are creating an MMS message, you should be able to see a thumbnail of the video you are trying to select. And lastly, when you click on a video file it should open and play in WM (or whatever default media player you have installed). I think a file association or dll got messed up when you cooked this. It could be a bad flash, but I have it on 2 separate Wizards with that same bug.

Mr S.VI. I don't know if you forget to cook Audio manager...maybe wmp is enough, but i like audio manager cause it only read mp3 files and I have lots of formatslike ringtones wav etc, I dont like to play it and i dont want to expend time making playlistscause i change mi music lot of times. Any suggestion to add it? maybe a specific version, i won't corrupt your rom.

The camera works fine, I dont know if you have change the pagepool, but it works great, so i need to check it at my home with WST. and the speed still being the best.

About the HTC AUDIO MANAGER:
As you said, it's capabilities are limited; which is why I do not bother using it. Besides, there are a lot of other players out there.
I honestly didn't think anyone used it at all since S2P came out, and updated almost monthly.
I don't think that I would add another player into my next rom. simply because it takes up valuable space, as well as making the rom more complicated. as we know the simpler the design, the better it works.

I will put a player in that has more functionality than WMP if you or anyone else points me to it. Just like I cooked in QuickMenu due to it replacing the task manager and bluetooth toggle, some control panels are easyer to access... etc. THAT was worth it.

As far as the audio manager, and today plugin, they can be downloaded, and the cabs can run off the UC* in the storage card. There is over 45mb of storage left in main memory, and I made sure that whatever got copied into my documents during the flash/hard reset was very minimal. What else are you to use that space other than instaling programs of personal preference?

*P.S. User Customization (UC) is very easy to configure and have programs install from storage card during autorun. I for example, install my alarm clock and owner information that way. Once you have it, you never go back ;)

Mr, S.V.I using your rom for two days i have experimented battery drain issue... cause it drains 20% in a half of hour (information visualized in ariels battery) just using music and with the dsplay turned off by an app called screenoff2003.

Do you think why it happens? can I solve it? its extrange cause I have flashed befor t mobile rom original 2.26.... look at this... i wake up at 7 am, my battery was at 100% i heard music 30 minutes with audio manager...then works and my phone off now my battery is at 62% the time is 11:48, just 4 hours or 5.

I erase the .lnk from startup of ariel battery icon,cause i think the other one was enough for me (the one in the ok/close button that shows percentage and memory)

Men!! I took off the battery indicator from the quick launch and it stops the drain, i guess that onlyteh batt line uplevel from other roms dont sucks battery, just for sugestion... jeje.

the wizard is actualy supposed to only be able to play music for 5hrs according to reviews posted.

ofcourse, I wouldn't be angry that you disabled those apps. If that works for you all the better. One thing I noticed when I was in San Diego, where reception sucks, the battery lasted less than I would like. It may have to do with it searching for a signal. It also may be that the battery is old and needs to be replaced. I do not have battery draining issues , so I do not disable those apps.. If that works for you, than it works.

files that are not cooked into the rom may be deleated; however the files that are cooked in can't . If you like your own sound, or want to replace certain files, they can be replaced by naming them with the same name as the old ones, and putting them into the same directory. however, they will be written to the USER partition, and will be lost upon hard reset. You can also simply add the new files into the windows folder and chose them to play notifications in the sounds control panel.

That is both a blessing and a curse, because if you download a virus, or a bad registry, you can fix it by hard reset, and everything will go back to normal.

YES I TRIED TO RENAME THE SOUND I LIKED "notify.wav" and place it into the windows directory and it says an error like it was a shared violation course notify isa system sound file, so i think that ugly soun still remains till you change it at coocking time... it hurts the ears !!! hehe, cause in Mexico whe you get a prepaid phone plan and the credit is diying they sends you a notify telling you that, ehehehhehhehe.

Still's waiting for new builds .20xxx are you cook some of this? so i stay with this version your but try out te TNT .20273, he cant active IRDA and the HTC home has lots of bugs. hope you can!

you should be able to change that notify sound in the sound control panel. or try to disable the sound (there is a check mark. if you uncheck it it wiil disable it) then you may be able to overwrite the file

4. I find that the flightmode button in Comm Manager and the phone button doing the same thing, which makes one of them redundant - any special reason why you've incorporated both?

Kudos on the bluetooth 2.0 like features - really really helps. OFcourse, I have to reconfigure my contact list for the pronunciations to come out right. but no worry there.

Hello, I updated My HTC Wizard (I-Mate K-jam) with OS 6.1 (19,209) BRIGHTPHONE FINAL, and beautiful, I also changed the size of Memory Page Pool from 2Mb to 6Mb, the camera works but 'after a while I use my PDA, pressing the Camera Program remains on hold, and unlocks pressing close call, and then closing the application, began work only after the reset Pda.
Anybody who has a solution Thanks!

try closing some programs before you start the camera. You're freeing up some memory that way.
I had the same issue before, so I just glance at the available memory before starting up the camera.

I did not include or remove any features in the coomanager. the phone button disables the phone antena, while flightmode disables ALL radio.

Notes on the battery:
I hope that you have the original 1amp wall charger. If the battery goes completely dead, that is the only way to revive the phone short of getting a new battery.
That is also how you refresh your battery. kill the power almost completely, then charge it while it is off untill the LED light turns green.
That happens when you flash with a weaker battery (les than 100%. I don't understand, but I am assuming that the origional WM5dll I used has that issue.
In most cases the battery lasted me more than 2 days. with push mail and bluetooth enabled it lasted a day and a half. sorry about that. working on a new one right now.

I use radio 2.37 and it is the only radio I use since San Diego has the worst reception for tmobile. glad i am leaving soon.

Sorry about taking out the games. The Java midlet manager will allow you to play a lot of games made for just about any cellphone (no sound though)

and I figured that nobody was actually playing those games anymore. I will post a cab with the original games as well as pocket gbs (sonic the hedgehog)

hey... first post here but after using a few different roms i am really interested in this one... only problem is that i am running vista and the rom loader always fails when it is "checking rom version".... i have gone through the patching process and have been able to successfully flash other roms like tnt and diamond but i really would like to use your rom.

do you have any suggestions for loading your rom using vista?

sorry about you having vista upgrading problems. I only use XP. I would say try doual booting to XP, or download another rom that has another upgrade utility. There is also a thread somewhere that tells you how to upgrade using XP. You could also put the phone into bootloader before pluging in the USB, and run the upgrade utility. sometimes I have to do that with XP as well.

Manual bootloader: turn the phone off. remove the battery. Hold camera button, while pressing the power button. keep holding untill you see the tri color screen. exit the update utility(if still running as well as all other programs) . plug usb. when you hear the hardware detected noise (as it usualy happens in XP, Vista?) run the udate utility.

That should work.

I've been having major issues with the alarm clock and time zone settings, which cause the phone to ring at weird times.

I've reflashed twice, but the problem is the same. Just got myself a new battery, so I've maintained the 252Mhz overclock.
Otherwise the ROM is extremely stable, except for the above irritating issue.

when pressing the voice dial function, and saying "call home" it will repete back to me and then take me to the contacts menu with the home number, but it wont actualy dial the number. It then quickly closes the window back to the today screen

MSVC may be having trouble understanding you. check to see if the acg works on it or not. if it keeps reverting to "ON" then download the acg fixed exe in the hornet/manila thread. otherwise check to see if you have the ...

It is waitiing for you to confirm with "yes" or "correct".
You can change that in "settings\personal\voice commander" select phone and then pick option button to check or uncheck to confirm.
