Hi guys,
i think my Diamond Profile Switcher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=406769) should just be for switching vibration mode and volume on.
So I decided to develope an own application for everything else you want to have, when shaking your device!
So let me know, what I should implement!

Hi, ur profil switcher is great. I was asking myself if it was possible, to use the sensor in HTC Album, to view next photo by shaking the phone, like in WM7.
Or, to wake up the device.
Thanks for your work.

What about switching to home if you shake while in an app.
Or better, close the current app.
the "x" is not easy to be touched with a finger...
And if shake at home, the profile will be switched
(shake the apps away :) )

Seems someone is becoming the un-crowned king of the Diamond.
So, honestly, how did you extracted the accelaration as GSEN makers would not release any info?
the ultimate Shaker : a selection of vertical - horizontal movement being linked to a list of possible actions.
Man, you ARE good!
TF3D, Shaker , the GSEN(credit to SKVV).... our Diamonds become step by step GREAT device.
HTC... you can learn a lot on the Diamond forum :D

Very good idea !
I have tested it and it works.... but only 1 time, onlyy when you launch the application.
For sure you'll fix it or maybe I am doing something wrong.
Thanks for that

I like the shakeSMS application of nokia phones: when you have a new SMS, you just have to shake the phone to view the sms, and then shake again to return to the homepage/homescreen.

In my oponion it would let you to choose from a list of functions and might let you switch with an config app.
My suggestions for this functions are:
- Wake up and Unlook
- Anwer call - End Call
- Close Apps
- Change Profiles
- Next Track in WMP
- Next Station in Radio
- Download Weather in Weather Tab
- Launch custom applications from installed ones.
And so much others posibilities.
And if you go for GOLD Medal, the perfect shake applications could do the function depending the context, if you are receiving a call, shake in this moment will anwer the call.. if you are listening music on WMP, shake will skip track... and so no....
Thanks and keep doing this GREAT Work.

I definitely think that context based shaking would be the best possible option. It makes the most sense intuitively, and even though I don't have my diamond yet, I'm immensely impressed by what goes on here!
sushilange
10th July 2008, 12:05 PM
Yeah, context based shaking would be very cool!
Also i think it would be nice not run just ONE activity on shaking, so that you have a list in which you can add all implemented features (run other application, lock phone, switch display on, etc.) and they will all run after shaking.

Okay, now my two cents. What about an onscreen dialog, now you move the cursor with the gsensor to the menu entry you want and shake to accept, or double move in one direction. something like that.

shaking
1) if in application - close application
2) if in sleep - wake up & unlock if locked
1) if ring - pick up
2) if call - drop call
1) if in tf3d home tab - can choose which application launch by shaking - otherwise switch to home tab (option for defining which tab in case you reorder tab positions witch your config)
1) if alarm / notification / reminder is poped - dismiss
scrolling in pictures, sms, music tab should be done through leaning up/down.
also tf3d tabs should be switched through leaning left / right
pretty much huh ? :))

Read so many wonderful thread and great ideas from all the geniuses. Thought of just, contributing some thoughts for all the guru.
Since the Diamond is equipped with a built-in G-sensor, would it be nice if we can move the cursor/selection on the screen by tilting the diamond up/down/left/right.
For example, in the program screen, we can tilt up/down/left/right to select the required applications. Same selection can be done with other screen where required.
The shaking method will also be great, but it will probably be application specific. But if we can use the above tilting gestures as cursor/selective control, wouldn't it be great.
Of course, we may need to consider the means to activate this only when required. The timing for the cursor/selection to stay before activating, and also means to refine the tilt gestures, so that it will move 1 block at a time.
This idea comes from the Teeter game I played. I am not mean a Technical person in this area and have really no idea how to do it. So if this is not interesting, I hope all of you can forgive me.
Thanks

Hi guys,
i think it should be possible, to implement all these features.
BUT: Fristly i'll not implement the feature to turn on display when shaking, because my application has to run all the time in standby so that it could be possible! That means, that your battery drains very, very fast! And i also don't know whether the sensor is still on in standby!

Firsty everything aragornol said is nice though i understand the fact that waking up on shaking is not possible cause of battery drainage.
my sugjestions:
If wake-up alarm goes off:
turn phone over like muting on call: the alarm snoozes
shake phone: alarm stops
incoming call: shake is accept
calling: shake is hangup
new sms/mail: shake is opening
nothing active on phone: shake is change profile.
sensitivity is important though, u dont wanna hang up when you are moving the phone to your ear or when switching hand.

to answer phone calls, a triple shake in horizntal direction is a good way to
use this function parallel with the other users ideas.
here are my ideas:
tilt angle left for backward on timeachses in audio/movie players.
tilt angle right for fast forward in audio/movieplayers
double tilt in 1000 ms, will STEP forward/backward
tilting front and backward, for sliding the photos in the album/favorite persons.
this will have a nice effect. you tilt vorward and the picture 'falls' in the direction.
the more tilt, faster sliding will be fine. (in music and video apps, too)
and tilt spezialmode for opera, to scroll the page into the tilted direction.
(with different scroll speeds, controlled by tilt angel)
(same to photoviewer in zoom mode, in 100% mode, use tilt directions left right to
bitmap forward--backward, and front-back to switch to galery view and scroll
the thumbnails into chosen direction.)
and a keyboard emulator for the direction keys to use them in FLUX (the game. i think that is fun :-))
sorry for the bad english, but i have too many ideas, but i can`t explain them exactly.

I'd rather use the normal phone keys for calling, or am I the only one?
Shaking can be of various functions, but please don't use the functions that already are called by 1 press on a button...
Why would I wanna shake my phone if someone calls? I'd rather press the 'pick up' key :)
Snoozing is good. Closing apps too.

For some reason I had to shake it quite a few times with force, then the unit would finally switch profile. With the possibility that it might get drop to the floor coz of shaking, I un-installed it after all. But a neat app indeed!

There can be made so much more beside 'SHAKING' :)
How about using it as a Bluetooth mouse?
Tilting left-right = left-right
Tilting front up - down = up - down
Mouse buttons on touchscreen
Or some developer sending WII-signals :)

How about application specific sensor controls
Example
I am in coreplayer listening to music and I turn by phone 180 degrees to the right and it changes the track to the next one and 180 degrees to the left and its for previous. That way I can listen to music and keep the screen off without turning on the screen to change track and therefore my battery lasts longer

It could be an idea that you could configurate things like this:
- RECORD a shaking gesture, I mean realy press 'record' and do your shake. (eg. shake vertical, shake horizontal, turn 180°, shake in circels, etc...)
- link the shaking gesture you just 'recorded' to a certain application and a certain action within that application. (This could be a fixed list of possibilities, which where givven here in the topic...)
I really like the idea of 'recording' your shakes, it meas you could do your predefined shake no matter in what app. you are to, for example, change your profile, or start your calendar, ....

The problem is not recording your shaking. The problem is, i have to spend a lot of time for coding an algorithm, because no one is able to repeat his recording exactly a second time! So I have to make a algorithm for comparing your current shaking with the recording. I think I haven't got the time to make this working perfectly.

To be honest this shaking application would be great as there is many ways how to use that and make your Diamond shaking all the day ... I wrote some tips which some of them appeared useful but to really tell the truth I don`t need deadly those functions ... the only and one which I would use each day several times is at least unlocking it while shaking I will explain why ...
Diamond screen itself is quite good readable at direct sun but the problem makes it unlock as the screen unlock screen is dimmed. :) then everything`s ok

Found something interesting : http://blog.enterprisemobile.com/2008/07/using-htc-diamonds-sensor-sdk-from-managed-code/
maybe that's the one you already use, I don't know...
Maybe recorded movements should be simplified into predefined en recognisable movements. 'Left', 'Face up', 'Face Down',...
Save the recorded movement in the simplified format. That makes it easier for the comparison with the repeated movement.
I know it isn't all that simple, it's just an idea...
sushilange
14th July 2008, 02:49 PM
For shaking it is not possible to use "Face up", "Face down", "Portait" and "Landscape"... i tried that first.
I'm now using the GVector to recognizing movements. With these movements my code try to figure out whether it is something like shaking what you are doing with your device at the moment, or not.
coBex
14th July 2008, 03:07 PM
No indeed 'Face up' and stuff is useless in this case, I meant more like the description of a movement : "Going up", "going down", "going left", "forward"...
Don't know if its possible to recognize it that way... I should try it myself perhaps, but time is indeed always a blocking issue

although its not as cool as shaking the phone, you can use AE Button Plus to map BT on/off to any key (i for example have it on doubleclick on volume down)

I know this might be far fetched. But I immediately thought about the builtin voice recognition for calling contacts or starting applications by voice commands. This function must have some kind of algorithms for "fuzzy" signal recognition. My thought was that this might have some kind of available API? Or it might not. If it did, maybe you could feed your recorded data in there to do matching.
Excuse my mind wandering if it's way beyond sensible. :)

Hey,
Basically, I think the most useful feature would be unlocking. I would suggest the application "sleeping" when you press the power button, when you press it again to bring the phone to life, it displays a locked screen. To unlock AT THIS POINT, you shake. This will save battery life, and avoid accidental unlocking.
A bit like S2U2, but instead of sliding, you shake!

Thanks both for the proggy and for asking!
I think there must be the set of actions similar to the choice for the hard buttons assigment. The goal is the same - to get it fast, isnt it?
So, take a look at this - http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
to see possible list of actions. They are not all but some the most needed, cose Aleksander, the author's been asked for adding new actions a lot (from me as well :-)
It is also possible to use those programms together by imitating hard button pressing after some special shaking!

are my most important options for the app. Off course choosing the action that belongs to a shake from a pull down menu would be the best. Thanx for you efforts and keep going on this app because this makes my diamond more of a gadget to show around :D.
Spike1506

That`s the option I would like to have.
I would like to see the features in bold, all others are great too. :)

I also think it would be great, if you can choose between a couple of things if you shake your device.
For example: start a programm (calender: in my job it is important to quick start the calender if someone calls and wants an appointment)
Or the ComManager: 3G Signal is sometimes not very good on the diamond.
Thanks a lot for your great Job till now!

Is someone interesting in testing a very, very early alpha version?
The only feature is to scroll the photos in HTC Album. There are no settings, not autostart and you will see a window of my app, because it is not a background-app at the moment.
The alpha version is only for testing the scrolling and for getting feedback if you think the scrolling working fine.

Hi,
I'm really looking forward to using that app. My first thought was: Custom Command (start any program, the rest can be done from there).
But by thinking more about it some thoughts came into my mind:
What about a list of programs with custom commands.
Album->Swap pic
Manila->Switch to Secondtoday
Secondtoday->Switch back
And a default action to launch for programs not in the list (Actionscreen for me, wifitoggle or whatever)
Think that might be very handy for everybody.
No thing for first alpha but maybe considerable for 1.0.

29th July 2008, 02:46 AM
If everything is working fine, I will release a first alpha version today.
The reason why it takes so long was:
Everyone who is knowing my Profile Switcher knows, that my tool has a window and have to be run all the time in background. That is not very nice.
Now I made my tool as a Windows Mobile Service. So you have a tool to start/stop the service (after starting the service you can close my tool). The service is running in background and it can also be automatically started on starting windows mobile.
Also the service need only 0.00 to 0.20 % of CPU. The old version was like my Profile Switcher and that need about 3-5% CPU. So you save a lot of battery with my new version :-)

-Put the folder in Program files.
-Run the exe and it was working in Album. But not very good.
-Installed the calibrator (first time, wantet to try this one too). Calibration data working.
-Done soft reset.
-Calibration is still there. It is saved on my device.
-Open Album, and the shaker is still there working. But this time much better with the caliration. Almost perfect.
-Shut down diamond, take the battery out, in again and start.
-Calibration still ok.
-Open album, but nothing. Shaker dont works.
-Open the diamond shaker.exe and it says that it still running. I can press only stop, but it don't stops. Start is gray.
The shaker does not work and i can not start it again, because i can press only stop.

29th July 2008, 07:42 PM
hmmm
after a reset it's just like zeldomar said.
It's in Running state, but it's not working anymore.
I also cannot stop the service.
Can you reproduce this?
EDIT: AHA when I start Diamond Shaker Service.exe it's working again:)

HHmmm... strange!
I was trzing to use it like you do in your video but nothing happend (in landscape mode).
Then while I was shaking it (in portraid mode), it changed the picture in the preview mode... but not always.
I hope this helps!
Is it possible to have a bluetooth on/off on shaking? :) Thnx!!
sushilange
29th July 2008, 07:56 PM
@urosh: As I said, it only works in Portrait-Modus not in Landscape-Modus at the moment.
My Video on youtube ist rotated, because I held my camera wrong.
And do not shaking! Just tilting.
---
Did I understand you right, that the Service is automatically started after soft-reset? That's strange, because I didn't implement this...
That's why I not tested what will happen after reboot, yet.
I just copied the files to my diamond, run the service, had fun with HTC Album and after that I stopped the service and everything was working fine.
My G-Sensor is calibrated - not with the tool. I had no problems with my g-sensor still I have my device :-)
So I can't test my tool with a none-calibrated g-sensor.
katerini
29th July 2008, 08:07 PM
Why don't you test yourself to make soft reset and see what hapent's.
I don't think that the service start from alone. It's something else. You must know!
I have surce with memmaid to find the service, but nothing.
i have deleted the files from diamond, made soft reset and put it back again.
Still says tha the shaker is running. And i can not stop it.
timoline
29th July 2008, 08:11 PM
I tested it again
1. start shaker.exe
2. album works with tilt.
3. soft reset
4. album tilt not working
5. start shaker.exe
6. state is already running. cannot stop service
7. album tilt not working
8. start shaker service.exe
9. album tilt is working again and we can stop the service
PS state should be: stopped not exited ;)
katerini
29th July 2008, 08:14 PM
After pressing Diamond Shaker Service.exe then it can stops, and start again. Then the shaker working in Album.
sushilange
29th July 2008, 08:31 PM
OK guys, I think I know why it is not working after soft reset and the stat is sill "Running", because the state is saved in registry. If you make a soft reset the service will not be closed and so in registry the "Exited" state is not saved. ;-)
Soft-Reset is like removing the battery.
So in the future, when the Service is running automatically on startup this problem is solved, because the service is really running after soft reset.

Hi, I tried and installed alpha 0.0.1 - many thanks for your efforts so far.
One thing I noticed was that in photo album, there's a fine line between tilting to rotate an image and tilting to swap images. I found if I want to rotate an image to full screen, when I move the phone I end up looking at a full screen image of the next photo in my album as it had also flicked to the next image. Ho do I temporarily uninstall / prevent this while I await for the next release ?
Thanks again... :-)

I made it so, that the fast scrolling through multiple pictures starts after 2 seconds to prevent accidentally scrolling more than one picture.

But when you're looking a a picture, not the tumbnails, and you want to look at that same picture in landscape, so you turn the phone and then I always go one picture forward or one back but it never stays at the same picture. Of course I have this problem too, because the current version not support landscape mode. If you switch between landscape and protrait it is at this moment interpreted as tilting. Just wait for next release ;-)

Sounds great.
I think the best functionality would be for commonly used functions that are buried too deep to easily get at using the touch screen, or that should be more easily accessed quickly when for example driving, so...
...my vote is for:
Shake to toggle Bluetooth (to connect to my car's bluetooth interface)
Other suggestions:
Two way shake (the other way - e.g. up & down) for a second function
Config panel so you can choose from a number of functions to associate with shake / tilt actions
Maybe is it possible to have a gross tilt movement (e.g. >45deg) instead of the swipe (left-right and/or up-down) for all actions that would otherwise be triggered by a swipe?
- I find swiping particularly unreliable

Hi, I've got a problem using this software.
I moved all the files to inter stor/my docs/installers/shaker
and i opened and started the app.
then i went to the htc album and it was working fine, except for a one big problem:
i couldn't exit the album.
i tried hadware buttons and touching the screen and even holding the power button on, but nothing happened. the phone wasn't frozen, album worked fine, it just didnt let me exit.
then i did soft reset and the phone was working again but now i can't use the shaker, when i go to the app it says it's running and pressing the stop button doesn't do anything.
so even thou its on but no matter how much i shake it nothing happens.
what should i do t get it work, and if i remove all the files does it leaves any commands running anyway? that might be a stupid guestion but i was thinking that if it's always on and i delete it will it still use diamond.... :D

1) i like shake SMS - shake device to open new message, when its read shake again to go back to home screen.
it save you having to unlock your device, open message, delete/return, go bak to home screen. .... its very quick and simple.
2) shake to wake-up, when in stanby mode.

... all situations where i don't want it to wake up.
I'd love a shake-function for dismissing reminders ... early in the morning it's hard to find the location on the touchscreen - just shaking the phone to shut up would be great. Not just with alarm reminders, also with appointments.

The problem is not recording your shaking. The problem is, i have to spend a lot of time for coding an algorithm, because no one is able to repeat his recording exactly a second time! So I have to make a algorithm for comparing your current shaking with the recording. I think I haven't got the time to make this working perfectly.
I see your point. But How about an action screen.. shaking allows one use execution. How about an action screen exe. while in any application. Instead of having to go to home screen and open tab and select application. Just
Shake!
quick menu pops up!
select from list items
Menu disappears.
Awesome. Items can even be customizable ;)
What do you think

Shaker is a great concept, but a poor implementation.
Does not work on my Fuze - not sure why (Herg's Black theme maybe?), no time to troubleshoot.
Many, many requests on this forum as to how to delete/uninstall this app, none answered, not a single one!
Does not show up in Remove Programs list.
So, one more time - How do you delete/uninstall this app? Creating a service and using registry entries without an uninstall process is unacceptable!!!
