As a newbie here at XDAdev, it took me a while to figure out which radio would work best for my area. The responses are usually 'experiment until you find the right one'. That's both time consuming and frustrating.

I have compiled a spreadsheet (link below) for those of us who have experimented in our own home/primary usage area to share with the community which radio ROMs work best. This way we can point users to the radio(s) that are most suitable for their device, ROM and market.

Please submit your information based on the below fields. I will transcribe it to the spreadsheet, and we here can use this as a reference to point new users and those upgrading to this resource so they may determine for themselves which radio ROMs work best for their machine, and their area.

Please state:
Device
ROM version
Build
Source
Radio
Carrier
State
Country
Zip
Rating (1-5)
Comments (if any)

The spreadsheet is here: CLICKY (http://www.gothammarketing.com/files/WM/WMradios.htm)

NOTE: I have included Microsoft's "spreadsheet functionality" in the file so that you may sort the file based on parameters you feel are best for your needs. If you receive an ActiveX dll warning, it is because your browser is trying to load the MS Office component to support the sorting function. Either allow it or not, but it is NOT a virus. Depending on how you view MS products, that is. :D

Please Email or PM your information to me for inclusion.

I will do my best to update the spreadsheet at least every couple weeks, or more frequently as time permits.

Comments (if any) 5 bars @ home, quick gps fix, easy 3G/H connections in Central Texas - This ROM and radio are the bomb - perfect. I get a GPS lock in 30 seconds or less. Battery life is acceptable - I have about 30-40 percent left on battery at the end of the day.

Note: you CANNOT run TOMTOM on battery for long (I get probably 2-3 hours tops) as it kills the battery quick.

GPS lock from my desk that's never been possible before! I generally leave the wifi on most of the day, don't really use it much but it's on. Bluetooth is on, and i'd say i make/take about 10-15 calls a day at 5min a piece and end up with about 60% by bedtime. I do have a Seidio battery, whatever the one that fits in the stock battery cover is. Calls are clear, bluetooth is the same (if that changes with radio), no more signal bars than before with the NEON 1.58, but GPS is a LOT faster.

It would be helpful if the list was automatically sorted by radio, since I use Firefox I can't sort them easily without going over to IE... Which I hate doing :(.

edit: Oh, and individual ratings for each thing would be great, like Battery: 1-5, Reception: 1-5, GPS, would make this even better! Thanks for your contribution.

If would be more perfect, if it also includes details:
- Radio signal reception (RX Level bar?)
- Call quality (Sounds clarity, successful call rate, drop call?)
- GPS Fix (In how many seconds?)
- Battery Life (Assuming full charge in the morning, how much battery left after 1 day usage, please specify your usage pattern)

I will testify, if it's in this format also

how the heck are you people getting <1 minute GPS locks, and indoors even?!?. I'm running Leo's V9 with 1.65.20.29 and it takes me several tries to get a GPS lock outdoors. I tried it yesterday with MSN live search, outside in the wide open. It timed out the first two times, and then finally got it the third time after about 2 minutes.

Use GPS Test to acquire a signal first before you open your map program. It makes all the difference in the world. There is a cab for it in my signature.

Good points, and if we can figure out a way to include this in a sensible way, I'm all for it. Problem is some things can't be qualified, necessarily. The problem is call quality is subjective to many people, and GPS fix depends greatly on how long since it was last used, and other variables. Same with battery life, where it's dependent on use.

Let's keep the dialog open on your idea, but for the moment, the KISS principle is probably going to serve us best. We don't want to overdo the plumbing. :D

Unlike the immediate connection of radio 1.58.25.17, this radio is somehow taking a little bit time to configure itself and settle down the signal after I flash the rom or hard reset the device.

Yet it will enable a great phone signal after 2-3 minutes. As well, I sorta feel that GPS signal is wider and quicker catching than 1.58.25.17 radio.

Thus I would stay with the new radio for a while.

Hi. Has anyone got any experience for which radio they like best in UK on Orange?

My priorities are as follows...

1) Half decent phone / internet reception
2) Quick GPS lock
3) Good battery life (this is still fairly important!)

Thanks... if you have any pointers that would be great / save me the work!

Hungover thanks in advance...

Anybody with tmobile in usa? What radio do you use?
Since I just moved office when I started the new ROM/Radios, I don't know if the radio is bad. My old office I had full bars, but the new office down the street is like 1 to 2 bars. But dunno if its the new location.

I'm using
Radio 1.65.14.06
ROM: Dutty's 6.1 wwe

I have tried 4 radios over the last week and with a doubt 1.65.20.29 has worked the best for my area. I am in Ohio and I have had great battery life and great HSDPA service, the GPS is about the same as all radios I tested. Camera is very fast loads almost instantly.

Spreadsheet updated this evening. Folks, please try to keep to the stated format, and include all the requested information wherever possible.

Please do NOT make up your own rating system - kindly use whole numbers.

Please DO include your Postal/ZIP code. It's important because some regions are large and what works in one area is not what works in another. For example, Arizona is a pretty large place.

Please do NOT tell us what doesn't work, tell us what DOES work. None of us would live long enough to cover all the radios for all the regions that are lousy. :D

Please DO understand that I'm using Excel and IE because as the spreadsheet grows with many more entries, it will be far easier to sort and screen for the information that works for you. Otherwise, I'll be inundated with complaints about the fact that I sorted one column instead of another, that I placed European users before USA users, and so on. If you can't load the spreadsheet, my understanding is that all it takes is the MS ActiveX plugin.

Killed battery overnight with WLAN on, will post more after using this ROM for a bit. Haven't had this ROM long enough to test too many calls.

Here's what I've been doing in the twin cities (MN, USA) these last few weeks if you wanna update it (best combo is listed in my sig).

·1.27.12.11: Stock w/ AT&T 6.0
·1.65.20.29: Decent
·1.65.21.18: Good, signal could have been better (stock w/ AT&T 6.1)
·1.65.21.14: Not as good as 1.65.21.18
·1.65.24.36: Very Good, great data connection
·1.70.18.02: Kind of sucked – so-so phone and data, poor camera
·1.71.09.01: Poor - so-so phone and data, poor camera
·1.59.42.15: Very Good – Great data, same to better phone, good GPS lock, EXCELLENT battery (with my power tweaks)

Edit: Sorry, in Minneapolis / St. Paul I get 3G.

Might want to state whether or not you are in a 3G coverage area?

Based on the work that EKnutson did, I have swapped my radio from 1.65.21.18 to 1.59.42.15 as I am also in the Minneapolis area on a 3G network.

As soon as my phone rebooted after the radio change I went from (H) 2 bars to (H) 3 bars. (This was at home, I get 5 bars at work). I will have to put this through the paces for the next week and see if it is a keeper.
