Moderator: I really think that some threads are to be sticky because they 've got some really useful permanent infos.
This one is one of them and also the ROM thread of diamond team should definitely be as a sticky. Thank you very much for that.

Great. I've actually flashed .05 whilst waiting for .03, and it flys! The HSDPA seems really fast, as soon as you click on a link on Opera starts loading page immediately, no lag as seen on .06. Even faster than .03.
On T-mobile UK.
Thanks Tom

Maybe we someone could create a sticky thread that covers some sticky threads like the way in General Development
Inside
Radio + ROM Lists + APP List
This way one must only visit one Thread, if the Title gets updated in the other threads..

Tom, thanks for the heads-up posting the Radio's here (will move to Wiki afterwards to keep track of all findings ?)
I am flashing V2 and replacing the 25.06 with your reccomended 25.05.
True that network reception was rather mediocre on V1 with 25.06 radio.
Will repoet how this V2 + 25.05 works here in Asia. Played long enough with different Radio's on TytnII and now on Diamond to "feel" the difference without scientific benchmarks :p

Today I flashed the 1.00.25.05 radio (before I was using the 03 radio) and now I'm able to connect to Brazilian VIVO carrier that is 850MHz! Until now I had to use the other Brazilian carriers that use 900MHz because old radio was not working on 850MHz.
And before testing the VIVO sim card, I used also the TIM chip that work on 900MHz.
I already made some calls with the 850MHz carrier, I'm not hallucinating!!!
So looks like the 1.00.25.05 radio is quadri band, or at least have 850MHz and 900Mhz.

to make all good threads stiky isn't a good solution... so in time we have the first page only stickys... not very readable...
i think the best solution is still to add all infos on the wiki... everyone can edit it ... so that should not be the problem...
the only problem is that the diamond wiki isn't filled up yet good... but everyone could do that...
i have done it on the HTC Breeze... i used the hermes wiki as base and edited all things by hand in freetime...
when everyone put the infos there together everyone can find it easly... without reading unneccessary pages with requests to made something sticky or uselesscrap about this or that...

Just flashed the 1.00.25.05 radio...how do i tell if im on that band??
If you go to your phone, press menu > options > Band > there you can set it.
Maybe it is an idea to add the exact procedure to this OP. As it was my first time only updating a Radio, I was a bit unsure as the RUU asked me if I wanted to update the 1.37.xxx.xxx ROM to 1.00.25.05. This seems odd, but is nothing to worry about :)
Steps that could be copied in the opening post:
- Download and extract the RUU (Rom Updater Utility) in a empty folder on your pc
- Download and extrat the radio file (.nbh) in the same directory as the RUU
- Start the RUU and follow procedure
Note: The program shows your current ROM version (e.g. 1.37.405.03) and asks if you would like to update it to version 1.00.25.05. This last version number is only of the Radio and does not mean that your 1.37 ROM wil be deleted. The radio update proces can thus be done without a hard reset.

Just flashed the 1.00.25.05 radio.
I have hard spl 1.40. Flashing worked like a charm.
Now HSDPA seems to be slightly quicker, but that could be wishfull thinking also.
I come from the 1.00.25.03 radio version which was flashed with my standard 1.37. . 3 WWE ROM. I am especially hoping for better battery life.
Why is 1.00.25.05 radio better then 1.00.25.06 radio? One would expect the latest version to be the best.
Cheers!

Just flashed the 1.00.25.05 radio...how do i tell if im on that band??
You have to be in a place where YOU know that signal is only 850MHz from the carrier, like some places in US or like where I'm (RJ, Brazil).
I left the band in AUTO and now with the new radio I'm able to see ALL the carriers availables, when before flashing I was able to see only the 900MHz carriers (where I'm are not available signals at 1800, 1900MHz and no UMTS).
So, I think only US guys with an asian/european Diamond can confirm if 1.0025.05 radio is really working on 850MHz band (but I'm pretty sure because VIVO Brazil only transmit at this frequency).

I am in Toronto (Rogers - 850/1900 mhz) and just upgraded to the 1.00.25.05 Radio. In my house, I now get 4 full bars of EDGE ('E' in the taskbar), whereas with the previous radio, I would only get GPRS ('G' in the taskbar). I cannot tell if there is an improvement in data speed though.
Is there any way to determine which frequency the phone is using (850 vs 1900)

I´ve just tried all three on Orange here in Madrid and the best download speeds have been with the 1.00.25.06. The 05 didn´t seem to work as well as the original 1.00.25.03 but I will have to see how the battery life goes tomorrow.

Probably I have Hard-SPL version 1.3.
If I upgrade to version 1.4 will I loose everything (ROM+programs+data) due to a hard reset?
Any chance we have a radio upgrade that works with hard-SPL 1.3?

Tom,
Just a question:
When I flash a new radio, it hard resets the phone?
No, I done it and I kept all my data.
** But, for those have an unsigned HardSPL, they have to flash it with the v1.40 and so hard reset will be automatic.
Make a backup before of your data, flash the HardSPL and flash the Radio.
After that you can restore all your data.

I had been using 1.00.25.03 for quite sometime and being in Toronto the diamond doesn't work with 3G 850/1900 so I rely on edge and gprs... my phone almost always staying on gprs... I installed 1.00.25.05 and nothing but edge... Don't know what other differences there will be but this one is doozie.. so I am recommending the 1.00.25.05 radio rom.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought that some radio's work better in some countries than they do in others.... In other words, some radio's are optimised for a particular region.
I would be very much appreciative if you could please post the regions that these radio's were taken from, just for the sake of information.

Hi Fabliv, (Fabric Live by any chance?)
Anyway, that was my point, the gentleman above pointed out that he could not get 3G with .05, so I guess it's not actually working in all regions?
I know that some are optimised for specific carriers, after all it is the carrier that provides the network, and although I'm willing to try ALL of the radios, I guess I just wanted some extra info which would allow me to make a more informed decision on what I believe works best for me based on carrrier/region. Then that information can be shared with others.

I think your right... normally it´s region and ROM dependent. I didin´t have much success with the .05 here on Orange with the 1.37 ROM (the .06 was the best) but now I´ve changed to the newer build I´ll give the .05 a try again.

Fabrice is my first name and liv are the three first letter of my surname. :)
So, I understand what you mean and I'm agree with you, it would be great if this information be shared by all.
Have a good night ! :D

I think your right... normally it´s region and ROM dependent. I didin´t have much success with the .05 here on Orange with the 1.37 ROM (the .06 was the best) but now I´ve changed to the newer build I´ll give the .05 a try again.
Hola ! :)
Here in France on the Orange network, I have not a problem to connect in 3G with .05 radio.
Everything works fine. :D

If you would read the opening post you could see this is possible. In the RUU topic (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2249397&postcount=1) you could see the same in the first post. Radio has nothing to do with the language of your ROM.
Better luck reading next time.

Good work! I've been reading this for a while, flashed the .05 radio and it is very nice. I am getting quite curious though: what do you expect (if anything) to get from the americas diamond, when it is released, which will have a different 3G band specification (850/1900 it seems)?

I would love to know as well. How can I tell which exact frequency the phone is using at any given time?
All I can say is that before upgrading, I only received 2 or 3-bars GPRS data signal at my home. After upgrading, 4-bars of EDGE.
Does this mean that my phone has magically attached itself to the 850mhz freq or is it just more sensitive at 1900mhz?

Oh..also...no 3G. Only EDGE so far. I tried enabling HSDPA through the various config's, but no luck so far.

In settings -> phone, there's a tab named band, in which you can select GSM and UMTS bands. Usually both are set to auto, but you can manually config bands there, if you want.

Hi, thanks, but I did try changing the settings on the 'Band' tab.:)
The issue I have is that in Canada, both 850mhz and 1900mhz are available for GSM. I've had my Diamond for a month now, and I have been connecting through the 1900 mhz freq with only GPRS and EDGE. I say 1900mhz because we all know that 850mhz is not supported by the phone, and the only other GSM freq in Canada is 1900mhz...so it MUST be connecting via 1900mhz.
Well, immediately after upgrading the radio ROM, my data connection jumped from intermittant GPRS to full EDGE...so either the sensitivity has increased, or it is using 850mhz (or something else?)
Anyhow...I was hoping that I could find a way to enter 'engineering mode' or something similar so I could see which frequency is actually being used (between 850 and 1900). So far, I have not been able to find out how to do this with the Diamond.

So...apparently 850mhz is now working on the Diamond for voice (in Toronto, on Rogers). This in itself is a small miracle. Would it be foolish to expect to be able to connect to 3G on 850mhz as well?
Is the type of data connection used (GPRS vs EDGE vs 3G) based on a special configuration setting in WM or does it just connect to 3G on its own?

I am in Toronto (Rogers - 850/1900 mhz) and just upgraded to the 1.00.25.05 Radio. In my house, I now get 4 full bars of EDGE ('E' in the taskbar), whereas with the previous radio, I would only get GPRS ('G' in the taskbar). I cannot tell if there is an improvement in data speed though.
Is there any way to determine which frequency the phone is using (850 vs 1900)

After installing Radio v1.00.25.05 from tom_codon post and testing with our Rohde & Schwarz CMU200 communication tester and with a shielding box we were able to confirm without a doubt that this particular ROM is 100% quad band and agree with evilgabbie's post. Test quality was excellent all all bands and could receive calls on all four frequencies. We noticed that it performed properly on auto on all frequencies and additionally forcing it to 850/1900MHz turned off 900/1800MHz and vise versa.
As everyone has expected the 850/1900 3G is not activated in this ROM as of yet but I'm sure that will change after more ROM's are released or cooked. So it just goes to show you that there is a GSM quadband chipset on board as most of us expected. Motorola has used quadband chipsets for years in almost all their mobile devices and controlled it by firmware and looks like HTC does the same. Likely all done because of market sharing and what carrier has the deepest pockets.
I will test other ROM versions to see if they are quad as well.
Big thanks to tom_codon. I think anyone using it should consider a donation as this is a great find. I know I will for sure.

The Diamond was built for quad-band functionality. Here's my take on why they make two different tri-band devices.
It starts with the carriers. Everyone knows that at&t will be carrying the Diamond and of course it will have 850/1800/1900MHz. Since HTC will release the device first in Europe/Asia at&t asks/pays HTC to launch the Diamond tri-band 900/1800/1900MHz in Europe/Asia so that it will discourage exporting to North America. Because North American's want optimal performance they will likely put off purchasing the 900/1800/1900MHz version and wait for at&t to launch the 850 version hence more sales for at&t. And of course HTC will comply because they LOVE big company's like at&t purchasing a crapload of their devices.
So there's no point to make two different chipsets, much easier for HTC to control by firmware but then again a lot easier to turn it into a quad-band phone as well. Unlike Sony Ericsson and Nokia, they control their band selection with hardware making it much more if not near impossible to convert. That's why it's so much fun here!! LOL.
Anyway, just my two cents. Let me know your thoughts, agreement or disagreements, I'm open, although I am going off topic of the thread, sorry about that.

Tried Google maps few minutes ago (Diamond project .06, flashed at the night):
-found satellites MUCH faster, then .03
-pointing result - about 3-5 meters; is it enough?

After nearly 12hrs with the .11 it appears that it the reception is similar to the .03 .05 .06 here in Spain but the GPS appears to fix very quickly. So far the battery seems similar to the rest.... time will tell.
What´s the general feeling in Europe with the new bunch of Radios? (because I´m sure quality and results are region dependent....)

I just upgraded to 1.00.25.11 and it seems like i got slightly better 3g reception.
I have the following Bands to select in the phone app:
UMTS(900+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(850+1900)+GSM(850+900)
UMTS(800+2100)
UMTS(850+2100)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(850)+GSM(900+1800)
UMTS(1700)
I think this is more choice than i had with radio 1.00.25.5
Before i always got 2-3 bars G now i can get at the same positiotion 1-2 H.
However it seems to be impossible to get a GPS fix now (but that might be due to bad weather at the moment)...
I will test a bit more later..

What do you use to see which band UMTS you are using?
I just have a look in in the phone settings under the "band" tab.
I have to double check, but i'm fairly sure that the list is bigger now than with original radio 1.00.25.3 and maybe 1.00.25.5.
However that might be totally wrong to check :-P
Please correct me if i'm wrong!

17th July 2008, 02:32 PM
well, no, that's not correct way to check it because there are those options in .03 radio also, it's generic, correct way will be to actualy set given freq. and test it to see if it's working, try to use fieldtest also or ask operator on what frequency it operates in your place...
psychotik
17th July 2008, 02:44 PM
Ok, in that case please ignore what i wrote about different bands before :p
However the reception strength should be ok.
I played with the FieldTest before, but i'm not sure what numbers are actually meaningful...
Where would i want to look for the 3G signal strength?

No is not. I tested the .11 on VIVO Brazil that use GSM 850MHz and this radio is not working, like .03. On GSM 850MHz are working so far only .05 and .06. I cannot speak about 3G as my carrier is only GPRS/EDGE.

I have my Diamond with the stock ROM 1.37.405.1 WWE, and in the Radio settings, I've always been able to select GSM 850 & 1900 band. does that mean I have 850 support out of the box?

in my case, it hangs the complete phone...
It becomes very sluggish...and after some minutes of use, it eventually freezes...
This makes me wonder: if all devices are made equally, why some many differences on the behaviour of each one...?
Look at GPS for example: 50% of the users say it works correctly, while other 50% says it's not (unfortunaltely, I belong to the second "50%" group).
Since GPS is independant from SIM cards and so on, why do some devices have lag and bad precision, and others don't?

No, for my experience with a 850MHz GSM carrier, the .03 and .11 radios also if displaying 850MHz on the band menu, the phone was not picking up any signal. With .05 and .06 radios, the phone have strong signal without any issue.

If you were able to install the elite 3.0 ROM, you already have the hard SPL. So no need to use the hard spl at the top of the page again.
Just download the RUU and put it in the same folder as the radio file you want to use (.nbh file). Then sync your phone and double click the RUU icon. It will automatically take the radio file that you've put in the same folder. Makes sure only the RUU and radio (2 files in total) are in the folder.

The .11 release caused hangups for me too.
It also caused Audioplayer_eng.exe to lock up and not respond to commands play, next, previous or play new song from list. Everything else worked just fine.
Disabling it by selecting flightmode on made the phone stable again.
So far, the .5 version is the most stable for me.

Hi,
I'd like to give some feedback :/
I live in Bavaria, Germany. I use QuickGPS with properly configured regional settings.
Using the stock supplied v1.00.25.03 I get a GPS coldfix within 20 seconds (wohoo!) and 2 bars HSDPA at home
The v1.00.25.05 gives me 3-4 bars, but even after 2 minutes (coldfix) I didn't have a proper GPS signal.
Verdict (biased, see my location) if you care about signal strength: get 0.5
if you care about GPS fix time: get 0.3
I'm staying with 0.3

Has it ever occurred to you that instead of being so rude you could actually help people by answering their questions? May be you’re some kind of know-il-all genius (which I doubt strongly) but if all of us were like you, this forum wouldn’t exist.
Anyway, I did search in Google before posting my questions. And I couldn’t find the answers. There are many people publishing their own ROM versions and it’s confusing (which is the best, newest, bug free, ..) . How am I supposed to know which one is better?
Instead of being rude you could have told me which version is the newest. Look around the forum, there are a lot of people asking the same question.
OMG, does anyone actually pay you? I definitely wouldn’t. I don’t pay for being insulted, that’s usually free.

When the screen goes black it will only accept the RUU from the 1.24 and not the diamond custom RUU file i have downloaded. When i try the other diamond custom RUU, it is saying update utility is unable to open file. Could you tell me how to do this from scratch please? Thanks!

so if i what i have read is correct then...if i was to buy the diamond and flash with the current update...i will have a quad band 3g diamond. That will run just like say the att tilt...only obviously be a better phone?? And im in the USA.
Umm, no. You'd be quad band for voice and 2G data. You'd still be dual band for 3G; US 3G bands would still not be supported by this .05 radio ROM. Wait a bit and maybe one with all bands will eventually come to light. But for now, nope.

I can confirm that sending SMS messages on any radio other than the .03 does not work on t-mobile (NL) network. All other providers no problems but as soon as i put in the t-mobile sim card i will get the 'message not sent' error.
So, if you use sms and on t-mobile NL network then stick to the 03 radio for now i'm afraid...

Goodevening...
I have a question...I used the procedure to update my radio at the first post of this thread, but I notified something weird...
Currently i'm using Radio 1.00.25.03 and I want .05 to use..Every time i'm starting the Diamond RUU and it's verifying my current radio, it's displaying a different type than installed...its showing me the version of the ROM, and NOT from the radio....
does anybody know if this is normal, and am I still able to update my radio??
I hope u understand what I mean and any help would be appreciated:D;)
Thanks in advance

I also live in the US. My question is that whether the new version coming out for US(Quadband) is any different as far as hardware then the ones you guys have. If the answer is no then i can go ahead and buy the tri band phone( no need to wait) and just update the Radio to enable Quad band. I know its only for voice now but im sure the big guys will solve that minor bug:D
can you clarify please?

Weird, have tried it with two different roms (dutty/toms's v2 and swiftBL rom) both refused to send out sms on t-mobile network except when using radio version 03. Too bad because i love the 0.5 radio. Other providers i use like vodafone and kpn/hi dont give any problems.
Might it be that my t-mobile simcard is very old (Still showing the BEN logo on it) or should it make no difference?
Can it maybe also matter where you are, to which area you are connected? Anyhow, one diamond is using the 03 radio now (my wife's lol), the vodafone one is on .05. I still have a kaiser but will sell that one...

Thanks again. Ok, i finally got it. But i noticed it changed the ram size from 192 to 128. Is that a bad thing? Did i lose something to gain something?

Hi there,
I'm new around here (bought my Diamond 2 days ago) and have just flashed the TLR 3 ROM with radio .05. Everything was going good until I tried the GPS... I started Tomtom 7 and it wasn't detecting any signal from sats, so I changed the config to "other NMEA GPS" and for a moment it worked and got a fix but after that I can no longer get a fix now, it does not even get the time, no matter if I select internal GPS or NMEA GPS. I've also tried with BeeLine GPS and nothing...
I'm reflashing to original stock ROM (radio .03) as I write this and will see what happens...
EDIT: reflashed to stock 1.37.412.2 ESN with radio .03 and GPS went back to life, getting the first fix in less than 1 min. Then I flashed the .05 radio on top of this ROM and the GPS is still working fine. Is it right to assume that it's an issue with the TLR v3 ROM or just that something went wrong during the installation/setup?

No problems with gps and TLRv3 here. Very quick cold fix. I'd flash again if I were you.
@HTCDiamond22: That question has been answered quite a lot already. Please read. :)

No one knows for certain, but most likley it wil be same exact hardware. Thus far, it is looking like the only differences are firmware and radio ROMs. But until that is confirmed, its just a strong hypothesis.
We'll know more when the Telstra Diamond is released in Australia. It will support 850 3G (same as used by AT&T here in the US). If that radio can be lifted and enable 850 3G for all other Diamonds, then we'll know much much more.

thanks, didn't get an answer first time round.
just had to ask as the first post says that '05 is improved bat and wireless, but '06 is obviously later, and wondering if that could be slower as it is not said to be faster,

Part of my contribution - hope "search" will guide to this if anyone has similarissues
Diamond Project + Radio .11 - the latest posted Radio:
Not compliant with eachother as they let freeze Teeter before round 5.
Solution: Flashing back to ROM .06 or .05 solved this.
Could not replicate the error afterwards, so I am sure it is Radio .11 related.

Just upgraded to .05 from .03:
E-mail does not work anymore(not capable of connecting, which is strange since internet browsing works). I'm going to downgrade to .03 again and test, and see it it's a rom-problem or a radio-problem.
Update:
Interesting - Does not help to turn off phone, but switching from GSM-mode to 3G, and then back again, resolves the issue. If this is radio-rom related or not I can not clarify....

lol, always the same thing : flashing the radio not required a hard reset, but if you don't have installed the hardSPL yet, you cannot avoid it ;)
