Its just sinking in for me.. im kind of bummed about it.
The measly 4GB on the diamond with NO means of expansion is not enough.
The iphone offers 8 and 16.. even the freaking Samsung Tocco is being given away with 8GB card.
What were HTC thinking?!

Don't like it, don't buy it!!! You really like the iphone? Go with it and hold your complaints to yourself. There is a lot of this topic going around already, don't litter it with more of the same sh*t...

No.. I absolutely detest the iPhone.
I already have my diamond, but tonight (as I put loads of music on my device) ive been thinking about it more and more... why didnt HTC put at least 8GB in it or add a Micro SD slot.
Other than that, I absolutely adore my diamond. Its a fantastic device and a great upgrade to my HTC Touch.

The whole 'mine is bigger than yours' thing doesn't bother me.
It's a phone, not an entertainment system for me.
I always carry a usb drive and am rarely far from a real pc.
When I ordered it I hadn't noticed the lack of card slot and I've only ever had a 2gig card in my previous smartphones. Maybe I just don't understand the concern to have so much on a media player but then again I did used to buy C120 tapes for my walkman :)

I cant remember the exact figure but it would add several mm to the device to put in a MicroSD slot so that's the main reason they didnt. There may also be power savings and speed improvements but i beleive the size issue was the most important.

Second the notion! One of the best things the Diamond has is its size!
Perfect size, you boys are forgetting the SIZE.

I'm syncing my diamond to my iMac(itunes) using missing sync, so I'm not really sure whether this is possible using media player on windows, haven't been using windows for years so I have no idea as to it's playlist capabilities...
I've got two playlists that I'm syncing (everytime my diamond connects, basically every night) the first one I add music to as I please (songs I have to actually add to the playlist)... The second however consists of songs played less than three times... I have a pretty large library and my diamond pretty much always have music on it that I'm not tired of, hence I find the 4Gb quite sufficient. This is also available for videos, or video podcasts (if you use your diamond as a video player)

I absolutely agree. Everyone knows that the Diamond has 4Gb and is not expandable. Pretty pathetic really if they buy it and then realise they want more space.

I have stored 100+ pics, 15 hours of music and installed all programs in the internal storage - and I still have 2,4 GB free.

And all you seem to do is stalk me in the forum..
I am perfectly within my rights to discuss the shortcomings of a product that I purchased within the arena of a forum dedicated to said product.
A forum exists for discussion, debate and problem solving. What do you expect, me to create countless thread of "how much I love my diamond". No.
You dont like it, stay out of the thread.

Not really. Its like anything else, you buy it thinking it'll be fine - its only when the space runs out that you realise you want more.
And no - dont go suggesting the iphone as an alternative, to me its a compromise. I want a kick ass Windows Mobile device. The diamond is damn near perfect apart from the storage issue. Curious HTC went this route as
1) Flash memory is very cheap. Hardly any cost difference between 4GB and 8GB
2)A Micro SD slot will not impact size that much
Do any of you think there will be any third party solutions (adaptors of some sort?)

The forum is for trying to solve a problem and sharing information.
Moaning - perhaps understandable to a certain limit.
Now, you know there is nothing you (or anyone else can do) about the 4 GB internal sotrage that you got with your phone.
If there is a new version of the diamond, with more memory or an external card slot.. someone will definitely share that info.
Unless that's what you were doing, I don't think that moaning is going to get you anywhere or achieve anything.
An exercise in futility.
If you just want to share your opinion, there are plenty of places where you can do so.
Doing it on a forum where people are looking for solutions, not exactly the best approach.
Just my view

Not really - there are workable solutions, for example someone mentioned ORB.. plus I'd like to get into dialogue about the possibility of adaptors..
I wont be dictated to about what I can or cannot talk about.
I mean a thread dedicated to wallpaper on the diamond (Which is near 5 pages long) is more redundant than this one, yet I hear no complaints about that.

Personally I think the wallpaper thread is bringing people enjoyment. They are improving their phone. Moudling it to their own taste. This thread could be seen as just moaning.
As a side note, expansys have official cases in stock in 3 days. Thought you might appreciate knowing that. Might cheer you up a little!

You're trying to troll.
That 3 day thing on Expansys is an error - call them up and see. They dont expect Stock till August, and im using a temp solution until then.
The wallpaper thread brings enjoyment you say?
Your attempts to circle jerk liamhere are hilarious! My thread has just as much validity as any redundant wallpaper thread.. in fact it has more.
Furthermore most threads on this forum can be seen as 'moaning' - its called discussing a product, its shortcomings and coming up with solutions.
All of those complaining that touchflo3D was slow.. they moaning too?
Unless you are a moderator then I really could not give a damn what you think to be honest. Like I said to your buddy, dont like the topic, stay out of the thread. Its not being rude, its just common sense.

Re-read my post. See if I was actually being rude. If you check my latest posts to you, they have actually been trying to SOLVE your problem. I suggested a very good temporary solution, and had just noticed the expansys stock. I'm sorry if that is a known mistake! I was only attempting to help.
Also, most threads don't have titles such as "I'm depressed". Personally I don't think that's a great or very helpful topic title. Just my opinion though. You don't have to care what I think, but like you say, this is a forum, a place to discuss.
Oh, and I actually quite like the topic of this thread. I'd not heard of Orb before to be honest. Could be useful.
Have a lovely day all.

Handbags lol!
I would have hoped for more storage space, though I'm certian that larger versions will be released in future, and there's always streaming solutions - although I hate to leave my PC on when I'm not there, such a waste of energy. I've got a 4 gig card in my TyTn II which never gets near full, but let's face it, it's due to the dismal media performance and poor camera. Maybe things will be different when I get my Compact IV, but time will tell!

Well, i got my server running at home and Diamond VPNd to that.
Got HSDPA speed, and with today's data-costs (getting lower and lower) it's not an issue anymore.
Storage? About 1 TB on my diamond this way. I even don't use that 4G chip at all ;)

I tell you why they didn't put in 8gb memory, because HTC wants you to buy the sucessor to the diamond. (or even the touch pro?) and i bet they didn't put in a microsd slot, because it would have been too expensive in production or maybe also because of the first reason.
And by the way, if you get a phone and you know it only has 4GB of memory. Why not look at your amount of data first, and see if it fits the 4GB? Rather then the other way around.
You wouldn't buy a house/apartment and then see if it's big enough for your family either, would you? Some people I really don't get.

I also share the opinion that the core of this topic (space too small) is pretty useless.
Otherwise, some good comments pop up (about streaming, never thought of that).
I also think, that 'LOCAL' storage on devices will be history in a few years.

I run simple XP on that drive, accepting incoming VPN connections.
Use a program like
http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-network-folder-plugin-v1-0.html
to make a shared dir on your terastation show up as a folder on your ppc and you are set.

Through this method I would have to download the MP3s (for example) first to my device before being able to play them. Is there a solution (not ORB) where I can stream directly from my terastation?

I Do use remote desktop mobile. I think there is some sort of vista bug because no matter what I set in the options (yes I do have the new version) I cannot see my device mapped as a drive once ive remoted' in.
I tried to remote to my laptop from my wife's laptop, enabled drive mapping and same thing - could not see her laptop hard drive mapped on my laptop.
Im almost certain vista is doing this (my laptop has home premium) but dont understand why..

Not really keen on leaving my laptop on 24/7 just to access a file share.
Would prefer to somehow log into my Terastation NAS directly from my diamond (terastation is always connected and is currently set up as a ftp) to access and music and view pictures.
Im not sure whether this is possible..
