ELF IPL 1.17.0002 & USPL 1.17.0000
This is a newer version of USPL for Elf (based on SPL 1.17.0000) for CID unlocking on similar lines of pof's Elf_USPL based on Elf SPL 1.11.0000.

Credits:
1. pof: for the 1st Elf USPL 1.11.0000.
2. ayyu3m: first person to test new USPL 1.17.0000 for me coz i dont have an Elf.

Note:
1. Should be used only on Elf with IPL 1.1X.XXX2. Some Elf owners have been using USPL 1.11.0000 with IPL 2.2X.XXX2 already without any problem. If that is the case, this USPL should work for those IPLs as well, but i can not guarantee.
2. Keep a shipped ROM for your phone in case of emergency.
3. If you are already using patched SPL 1.11.0000, then you can just run the romupdateutility.exe inside RUU folder to flash this SPL.
4. As it is based upon Elf_USPL, 'rapi' should be enabled before using it.
5. Check post 2 for USPL 1.19.0000, post 3 for USPL 2.26.0000 and post 4 for USPL 2.28.0000.

Another new USPL 1.19.0000 based on Elf original SPL 1.19.0000 has been patched by kokotas for CID unlocking. The nbh file of this USPL ready to be flashed can be downloaded here.

The procedure of flashing it is similar to previous USPLs and the instructions in post 1 apply to this USPL as well.

Instructions for ELF.

EDIT 06/09/08: Directly upgrading IPL/USPL in one go may or may not work for all of Elf owners (if the Elf is pre-release or old one). If your phone (Elf only) is stuck at Smart mobility screen with IPL 2.26, SPL 2.26, try downgrading the IPL to 1.19 or 1.17.

For users that already have IPL 2.2X series



First make sure your device is application Unlocked. By installing EnableRapi.Cab (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=92913&d=1213560044) & Cert_SPC.Cab (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=92914&d=1213560044) on your device, then reboot the phone.
Take out MicroSD card from Slot.
Connect Device through Active Sync.
Run the elf-uspl.exe from the Extracted Download (ELF_USPL_2.26.0000.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=101826&stc=1&d=1217022319))
Watch Screen and Press Enter When Asked.
Screen should Jump to White on Phone and on PC Flashing Loading Bar will Show.
Stuck in Black Ducky Loading Screen?, check Active Sync Connection or Do a hard reset on Phone first. But be sure to do the last Actual Flashing in White Screen. Sometimes this needs a few tries to go through white screen.
Done.

For users that have IPL 1.1X series


Steps below are all recommended to remove Micro SD card.
First Make sure you allready have a Patched Pre 2.26 SPL (ELF_USPL_1.17.0000.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=99975&d=1216310922))
You can install this Patched Wit the Same Instructions as above for the 2.26 SPL.
Then When you have a Patched 1.1X SPL install the 2.26 IPL (ELF_IPL_2.26.0000.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=101829&stc=1&d=1217023142))
After you have rebooted you can confirm your SPL & IPL versions by pressing Reset Button With Stylus and Pressing and Holding the Camera Button to get into TriColour Bootloader.
Reset Phone Back into the OS And follow instrcutions above for Flashing Patched 2.26 SPL.
At this point you do not to install CertSPC.cab & EnableRapi.Cab
Done


Unless you are familiar with these processes do not try them, and wait for more confirms.
Flashing is done at own Risk and might Void your Warantee.

Note:
You can also update the IPL&USPL to 2.26 together in one go if you are already using the USPL 1.17.0000 or USPL 1.19.0000. This has been tested by ChiemY(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2454555&postcount=44). So,if you are willing to upgrade together, download the ELF_IPL-USPL_2.26.0000.zip file and run the romupdateutility.exe.

Guys/gals, the USPL 2.28.0000 based on original SPL 2.28.0000 is ready for both Elf and Elfin :D
It wouldn't have been possible without the help of cmonex.

New released USPL28_V2 which has an extra feature (apart from the normal CID unlocking features etc) that you can flash ROM of any size now even below 50 MB using RUU. Yes, this USPL V2 removes the restriction of 50 MB size of ROM for normal RUU and that means the OS.NB doesn't need to be hexed if it is below 50 MB and one doesn't need to flash using SD card in order to gain the extra space.

IPL 3.07, 3.10 & USPL 3.07, 3.10
This is the latest version of the IPL/USPL based on the original WM 6.1 WWE ROM 3.07.720.03. This USPL will:
1. CID unlock the device for flashing any ROM
2. Remove the restriction on minimum size (previous limit was 50 MB) of the ROM.

PS: the procedure to flash the USPL is same as before. If you are already using some USPL (USPL 1.17, 2.26, 2.28 etc), then you just have to flash the new NBH with RUU. Enjoy :D!

Here is newest IPL and USPL 3.14 :D. thanks to GPRS for sharing the original source of this IPL and SPL. The features and procedure to flash this USPL are same to that of previous USPLs. I've tested it on my Elfin and it works well :)

Those who are interested in dumping their SPL from the phone, please follow the steps below:

1. Download the attached archive (thanks to kokotas).
2. Unzip it somewhere (preferably to the root of a drive).
3. Connect your phone to PC with USB cable.
4. Make sure that ActiveSync is working.
5. Run the DSPL.bat file and follow on-screen instructions.

After the SPL dump is finished, you will get a new file named SPL.nbx in the unzipped folder. But this will be a 512 KB dump file and CAN NOT be flashed to Elf/Elfin as such. Therefore, if someone wants to make a working SPL of the dump, please PM me the link of the dumped SPL.nbx file and i'll make a flashable SPL of the same.

EDIT: there is an easier method posted by dsixda to dump the SPL in this thread, i recommend to use that instead of this one.

Unlocks the CID (country ID) so that you can flash any Elf ROM to your phone.

Instead of flashing the USPL you can also run the temporary USPL (white screen method), but if you flash a bad ROM (bricks your phone) then you are in trouble, as the temporary USPL makes your phone back to CID locked afterwards.

The temporary USPL method also is annoying because it requires you to remove your sim/memory cards and may take several attempts to get it finally working... The flashed USPL, on the other hand, will let you run just the Update Utility and nothing extra... plus it works the first time always.

3.If everything went ok, you'll find your dumped IPL.nb in that folder soon:)

I am very sure mine one is an ELF (64/128) and confirm that changing pagepool size also works using ELF method on NBH file. My ELF is set at 6MB PP.

Moreover, changing the pagepool size with the attached pagepool changer for ELF is not a problem at all. Thanks to the creator for the pagepool changer.

Not only the boot time is reduced, the ELF now runs faster and the memory management is amazing, mine is set at 6MB PP, always show 25-26MB free memory
at most of the time after closing all application except background processes. I can say the memory leak is almost zero.

And the best of all, to flash a ROM, I do not need to take out the SIM card and Memory card.

yes, i also get these erros if my ROM version is like that. it happened to me even when i used USPL 2.20. so as a precaution, i've permamnently set my htcrt to ROM version of the base ROM 2.26 ;)

yes, u should be able to do that directly. those instructions have been posted by Noonski as he was the one to test that on Elf (remember, i don't have Elf to test). but u can try ur method. if it works well, i'll modify the post :)

Note: Time measured from the time 'Smart Mobility' appears on the screen. Soft Reset repeated 2-3 times on each USPL
1) USPL 1.11 (IPL 1.11) : ~50 secs
2) USPL 1.17 (IPL 1.11) : ~55 secs *
3) USPL 1.17 (IPL 1.17) : ~55 secs *
4) USPL 1.17 (IPL 2.26) : ~59 secs **
5) USPL 2.26 (IPL 2.26) : ~48 secs ***
6) USPL 2.28 (IPL 2.26) : ~48 secs

Conclusions:
* USPL 1.17 takes ~5 secs longer than USPL 1.11 (bit suprising)
** USPL 1.17 with IPL 2.26 takes distinctively ~60 secs from all the other combinations. Indeed a non-bootable combination.
*** USPL 2.26 and USPL 2.28 takes lesser time to boot conclusively

NOTE: This evaluation alone DOES NOT conclude you must use the latest SPL and IPL. But it gives you a CHOICE, to choose from different IPL and USPL, you can use to customize your device. Pagepool was not taken as a factor, and conducting Boot Time on a pagepooled ROM may also vary the results comparatively.

AND: i did this evaluation to show respect and appreciation on behalf of all others, to those members who give their precious time to this forum and bring out these patches, so that it may and does, help improve the way we can speed up and customize our elf and elfin. :D :D

And yeah, I got BSoD for the first time, when i flashed IPL 2.26 and USPL 1.17 and tried to interrupt a soft reset. This concludes what kokotas has said abt non-bootable combinations, like IPL 1.XX with SPL 2.XX or vice versa

This USPL should also work on Elf, but as i don't have an Elf, therefore it would be great if some Elf owner takes up the responsibility to test it.

Tested on my ELF, it works nicely. My SPL now 2.28.0000.

I was happy with 2.26 and now i am happier with 2.28. As what Kokotas said
"the patched SPLs give a little more "boost""... I am totally agree with this.

The performance for most programs on my ELF now much better.

whoa! i m noticing that my elf is pretty much more responsive and programs open bit more efficiently with USPL 2.26. previously with USPL 1.17, when i press Setting, it wud lag for 1/2 second and then enter. but now as soon as i press, VOILA!!!

Just been replacing a temp OEM from a 2.2 build with the previous ones i was working with. (2.26 Februari)

And it looks to get faster with each folder replacement.
You right. My current ROM is absolutely fast. With the 2.26 IPL and 2.28 SPL and 2.26 OEM and to top it up with a 0MB PP it runs faster than a race horse :D

I got this naughty idea, flash the IPL 2.27 from the link, it works. Then flashed the new AB UCE ROM 9.03, without taking out the Sim Card and Memory card, it works nicely. Now I'm running new ROM with IPL 2.27 & SPL 2.28.

IPLs dont need patching and these SPLs are already CID unlocked. so you don't have to go back to some other version of the SPL to flash a ROM :)

i was wondering if u could test the boot times after installing all of ur softwares. keep the pp same for all the tests. it may just be a case that newer SPLs perform better than old SPLs with the softwares installed.

as per instructions in post 3 tested on Noonski's Elf:
1. u can go to IPL 2.27 straightaway, but if u dont feel confident, try IPL 2.26 first.
2. u can flash SPL 2.26 or 2.28 either way as u already have USPL 1.17.

ok, having not modified my phone in any way yet. The patching of the SPL seems like the best way to get started and easiest way to play with custom roms. Now what I'm wondering is if I have this right.


My phone has IPL 2.21.0002 & SPL 2.21.0000, and I'd like to go straight to IPL 2.27.0002 & USPL 2.28.0000.

Let me write down what I believe the procedure is, please correct me if I'm mistaken, thank you.

1. Install EnableRapi.Cab & Cert_SPC.Cab on device, reboot. (is this done only the one time, or before each IPL/SPL update?)

ok, having not modified my phone in any way yet. The patching of the SPL seems like the best way to get started and easiest way to play with custom roms. Now what I'm wondering is if I have this right.


My phone has IPL 2.21.0002 & SPL 2.21.0000, and I'd like to go straight to IPL 2.27.0002 & USPL 2.28.0000.

Let me write down what I believe the procedure is, please correct me if I'm mistaken, thank you.

1. Install EnableRapi.Cab & Cert_SPC.Cab on device, reboot. (is this done only the one time, or before each IPL/SPL update?)
2. Remove MicroSD/SIM card from device
3. Connect device through ActiveSync. (Allow USB connections on or off?)
4. Run the elf-uspl.exe from USPL 1.17.0000 and follow instructions.
5. When successful, run the elf-uspl.exe from IPL 2.27.0002 and follow instructions.
6. When successful, run the elf-uspl.exe from USPL 2.28.0000 and follow instructions.
7. Great Success?


Just like badaas I feel that I should ask before I risk a wrong step and causing unnecessary problems.


You and I have the same phone, I believe. I went to IPL/SPL 2.27/2.28 last night. Basically you want to flash the USPL first before you flash a anything else. Your steps are correct -- make sure you have ActiveSynch running with the USB on. After you have the USPL, you can flash directly from the RomUpdateUtility.exe without removing any card or doing the extra steps previously. You can even flash from the bootloader if you have USPL.

i was wondering if u could test the boot times after installing all of ur softwares. keep the pp same for all the tests. it may just be a case that newer SPLs perform better than old SPLs with the softwares installed.

Been using the Orange UK 2.27 WWE for a day now. It is reasonably fast, although of course it is not going to be as speedy as UCE or PDAViet.

I think I'll keep this one for a bit until something new comes along soon! (What's the point updating my sig when it's changing every half day!)

All done, went from 1.11 USPL (pof) to 1.17 USPL to 2.26 IPL/USPL with ELF_IPL-USPL_2.26.0000.zip (had to take SIM/SD card out to flash else got 206 error), then went to IPL 2.27 from tri-color bootloader, rebooted all fine, reset to tri-color bl then flashed 2.28 SPL, reboot to OS, all good. Then reflashed AB 9.03 UCE from tri with cards in, as suggested earlier, everything A-OKAY!

well, those instructions in post 3 for Pre 2.26 are actually for Elf devices which had IPL/SPL of the series 1.1X. If an Elf already has IPL/SPL in series 2.2X, those instructions need not be considered.

and yes, u can flash any cooked ROMs, radio etc. just be careful while using shipped ROMs coz they will CID lock the phone again.

Yeah that was indeed not needed, afterwards it was confirmed not being that necessary . But it was also a way to exclude different ways of doing it.

no, u don't need them anymore. they are just required to be installed on a shipped ROM for flashing the USPL

unfortunately if u get stuck in bootloader by flashing an incorrect ROM after USPL, only shipped ROM matching with the phone's CID/DID can save you.

*USPL 2.26, 2.27 and 2.28 comparatively gives a lesser boot time, with 3 of the plugins in full swing.
*USPL 1.11 and 1.19 performs well in time compared to USPL 1.17 (really wonder why)

Finally:
-a big thankx to pof for bringing out the initial patched SPLs and htctouchp for the continuing work to bring out newer patched SPLs as soon as he gets hold of a new one.
-last, of coz this is not much of a bench-mark, but hey, as you can see, patched USPL and newer IPL does have its advantages, even with a few seconds saved.

press and hold the camera button, then reset with stylus. u'll get a tri-color screen listing the IPL and SPL versions. ELF0100 doesn't mean anything, check the RAM/ROM size and that will decide if it is Elf or Elfin.

OK i downloaded 2.28... removed my sim and memory card, made sure nothing else was running on system (PC) the ran the elf-uspl file within the downloaded folder... then followed on screen instructions (the phone had a duck with some info) then the error 260 came up..... the phone then reset into the rgb screen....

well, try and try again...reset the phone, reset the computer (if possible try changing it)..hard reset, enable rapi again and then run USPL

yes. there are two cabs as mentioned in post 3. Run Cert_SPCS.cab FIRST and EnableRapi.cab SECOND on the phone. then soft reset the phone.

the information that u see in the device info is related to the ROM version, radio version and extended ROM. that doesn't show u the IPL/SPL versions. if u want to see if the IPL/SPL have been updated, press and hold the camera button while resetting with stylus. if u check, u'll see that SPL is 2.28.0000 which was initially 2.20.0000 before u flashed.

PS: it would be better if u read the Rollup sticky for more information related to Elf/Elfin

well, if u can dump them, i'll take a look and see if they are newer than USPL 2.28 or not. if SPL 2.81 is newer, i'll try to make a USPL based on this. u can easily dump the IPL though. follow the Rollup sticky, kokotas has posted a way to dump IPL. however, we are not able to dump the SPL as yet :(
PS: don't u have original shipped ROM for your phone?

the command that you have written in the bat file for dumping SPL is wrong. you have to use the following command:

pmemdump 0x8C000000 0x80000 SPL.nb

and the problem of dumping SPL is, 'pmemdump' doesn't always give the correct SPL, sometimes we just get some garbage data. in my testing i had to use this command to dump SPL 10-15 times before i got the correct dump. so it would be better if we get more samples of the dumped SPL.

command will remain the same. just keep saving the SPL.nb generated with different names e.g. SPL1.nb, SPl2.nb etc

In that, isn't some part the SPL? So why cant we dump the SPL just the way we save the OS as Part02.raw? Just a thought, I'm sure someone must have tried

the IPL/SPL is not loaded in those partitions i guess. pdocread only provides u part0, part1 and part2. IPL dump is easy but SPL dump is really a headache, i've tried many offsets but its not very conclusive. its more of a hit n trial case.

thanks to amelsfort for his patience. but this SPL is very old, even older than SPL 2.20 :D. so i guess, we don't need to patch it for CID unlocking and we don't even need to try IPL 2.81.

Hi All,

Let me start saying that i am not a technical guy but love to experiment. I recently got my HTC Touch with Model ID - ELF010050 and CID - DOPOD001.

I was reading most of the available material on the forum which gave me information on ROM Upgrade and other CID Unlock.

I have downloaded the following files from the Forum
1. TouchII_2.20.707.47_WM6.1_B20273.rar
2. TouchII_2.27.801.48_WM6.1_B20273.rar
3. Cert_SPCS.cab
4. EnableRapi.cab
5. mtty.exe
6. IPL_2.27.0002.ZIP
7. USPL_2.28.0000.ZIP
8. IPL_2.27_USPL_2.28.ZIP

My Problem: Everytime i try to do ROM Upgrade or CID Unlock process it gives me "ERROR 270" and the device automatically restarts.

I checked with all the possible treads on thsi forum, but i feel i am doing something wrong. As i am not a TECHI person, i am not able to find it out.

Can anyone help me realise my mistake in the steps to be followed, so that i can upgrade to WM6.1

4. power off and power on (Don't reset with stylus)
5. remove SD card and SIM card
6. connect phone to PC, make sure Activesync is working
7. unzip USPL_2.28.0000.ZIP to C: drive
8. unzip IPL_2.27_USPL_2.28.ZIP
9. copy nbh file from IPL_2.27_USPL_2.28.ZIP and replace the nbh file in RUU folder of USPL_2.28.0000
10. run elf-uspl.exe and follow on-screen instructions

Well , the idea is that we have just to make sure that the IPL&SPL is of the same "generation"!

IPL: 2.2X.0002
SPL:2.2X.0000
Bootable combination [A common version of bootloaders found in ELFIN - the second released version of the Touch, but also in the latest manufactured ELF]
What are my options?
You may use djvw's patched 2.20.0000SPL or htctouchp's patched 2.26.0000SPL to CID unlock
or
You may use any original 2.2X.0000SPL as an update for SPL
and any original 2.2X.0002IPL as an update for IPL

Just did it. But I got a error [260] when RUU was started and was checking the phone. Never had this problem with my devices. AS was gray. Where to start again. All over or is it enough to start RUU?

If you see blank screen with penguin, jumpspl has failed.
You need to see blank/penguin quick and after have a white screen.
use ELF_USPL_2.26.0000.zip from post 3 and make hard reset should help.
jumpspl not work all the time, need to try again.

I just did it again with the same results. I don't get a white screen. The pengiun is still on it.
I am connected(green) and disconnected(gray) before RUU is starting. After a minute or so I get the error mentioned.The penguin is still on a black screen. It isn't hanging. I can hardreset to get back to the device.

I just got my elfin a couple of days ago, but have flashed my athena several times. On athena, there were different ROMs for each SPL (ie: ROM "X" for SPL 1.2, and ROM "X" for SPL 3.5), and it was always made very clear NOT to interchange them.

I'm using Blue Elves v5.0 right now. I'm ok to change IPL and USPL now, and try out the Shadow and other ROMs/Radios without problem......Correct?

nop. flashing SPL , IPL or radio keeps the ROM and data intact.
only flashing a new ROM will erase all data on internal storage

Flashing a ROM that contains an Operating System will overwrite your data.

But flashing the following by themselves will have no effect:
- IPL
- SPL
- MainSplash
- Radio

I tried last night to update the SPL on my HTC Touch (Elfin) to htctouchp's patches 2.28 file, but once I start the little DOS program to run it, once it reaches step 2/3 it freezes on 15% every time and I have to soft reset my phone. Can't figure out why I can't get past it. Any help or suggestions would be nice. Thanks.

Flash the temporary SPL (white screen) and then flash this IPL/SPL. I've zipped up everything w/ instructions in a file. Just check my sig for htctouchp's creation.

I can't figure out how to check my CID/DID... whenever I try to run the device_info batch program, it just get error after error saying that the attached device is not functioning? My phone works fine, never had a problem with it, and it syncs up without a problem. I'm running Vista 32-bit btw.

On my bootloader screen, I get the "tricolor" picture, but it says:
VOGU100
SPL-2.01.0000
CPLD-3

Dude, check the sticky thread at the top of the forum (self-explanatory title - "Avoid Confusion and Damage"). Or, just try out the program in my signature that checks CID and Device ID - it will give IPL/SPL too.

yes, it takes only a few seconds to flash ipl/uspl. 10 minutes is the default time for of full ROM hving ipl,spl,splash, ext_rom, radio and OS.
and yes u can install any ROM now.

Following eshield steps I jumped from 1.11 and pof's USPL, in one step to 2.27/2.28. Everything went smooth, and now the speed is noticeably higher :D

Removing the SIM card and memory card is important.
After you get the USPL installed you won't need to remove anything again.

ohh! don't u have shipped ROM for your phone? if not, try this:
1. remove battery and all cards for some time
2. use SD card flashing method for downgrading the USPL.

if still doesn't work. PM me your messenger ID, lets try to sort it out together.

Guys, once again... thanks for your job. I read the thread and I learned how to change IPL/USPL, then I did it. It runs smoothly (first to 1.17 then to 2.28). I don't see any difference in speed, but I'll flash Touchess 2.1 (replacing my precious Shadow 2.1) in a few moments to try it (unless you recommend something else !).

Since your Device ID and CID are wildcards, you pretty much have an unbrickable Elf, i.e. you can use any shipped ROM with it if the OS ever crashes and doesn't recover. That is, unless you use a hammer...

Try this:
After you install EnableRapi and Cert, reset your device. Wait for ActiveSync and then start the program.

After the second step I'm getting TUX and GREEN ActiveSync when it should be GREY.

Could you please clarify your procedure? I've been trying to unlock for days now...

BTW, I also tried after a soft reset and the ASync was grey, but then when it went into phase three the ASync icon vanished and it gave a 260. sigh.

It seems you are still CID unlocked at USPL 2.28, so you can try to flash IPL 2.27.0002 from the bootloader and see if that helps.

What IPL and SPL did you have originally?

Otherwise, flash back to an older USPL (e.g. Pof's 2.20 for Elfins and 1.11 for Elfs).

*Do not* flash a regular SPL (which is not a USPL) or else you'll be screwed!

It seems you are still CID unlocked at USPL 2.28, so you can try to flash IPL 2.27.0002 from the bootloader and see if that helps.

What IPL and SPL did you have originally?

Otherwise, flash back to an older USPL (e.g. Pof's 2.20 for Elfins and 1.11 for Elfs).

*Do not* flash a regular SPL (which is not a USPL) or else you'll be screwed!

3 days??????? Hope your battery doesnt drain and if so...you better have an external charger...cos the battery doesnt get charged once your phone is dead.

anyways are u able to see USB at the bottom of the tri-color screen when you connect to PC.

if so u can flash still...but if not....yikes!!!

I had surface 6.1 in that device it´s why i know it´s a enfin
it´s the orange uk white version so i thinks it´s a elfin right?

I agree, I was going to post the same reply, BUT is there a possibility the revision date is newer?

We already saw SPL 2.81 which turned out to be older than even 2.20. I only started seeing 2.24 ROMs recently, although they've probably been around for a while.

just one thing isnt htctouchp spl ipl 2.28 meaning its the latest or what
