Standard = ROM version as released by Samsung with no other additions
Ultimate = ROM version as released by Samsung plus lots of other un-official programs and tweaks.

Hi,

I am planning to cook V4 or V5 ROM to make it fully compatible with a french version (Resources, Keyboard, SIP, ...).

My first tests failed :
- or the phone keeps rebooting ...
- or I do not have any french resources.

I am not a WM expert and this is my first cooking.

What I have done is getting EFN_V4_ROM, a french ROM found an other thread and the famusc's kitchen.

Then I removed all *409* files from EFN_V4_ROM and replaced those with *040c* from the FR ROM.

I did not change any dsm files (and I suspect I should have done it).

As it, PDA could be rewritten, unfortunately it does not work : boot and reboot and so on.

If I keep 409 resources files and I just add 040c resources files, PDA works but still in english (which seems a normal behaviour).

So I think I missed something during the cooking process but I can't find it.

I would be glad if someone could provide me any help or tricks to get EFN_ROM in FR.

You have to change the values in the registry from 409 to 40c.

The easy way is using CEregeditor, which is a graphical editor, but is a bit buggy.

I use rgucomp.exe which is the official M$ tool but is a command line tool.

Search in this forum for rgucomp.exe to know how it works.

From V4X onwards, Vista WMDC will work 100% via USB Sync. I can confirm this because I have worked very extensively to fix it. I am using Windows Vista 32bit all the time so I need WMDC sync.

BUT, it is a common known issue that i780 WILL NOT run properly on USB Internet Sharing. It is not a device problem but rather the driver used by Windows XP and Vista. Until Samsung can provide us a good driver, this will remain the same.

As yes, BT PAN Internet Sharing will work fine as well because at home and on the road, I use BT PAN via i780 Internet Sharing all the time. If this function is not working I will be stuck.

So if you have problems with WMDC, make sure you have WMDC 6.1 Update and delete all previous old sync partnership. Make sure you delete any link to old contents as well. Sometimes re-installing WMDC will help.

If your BT Pan does not work, please recreate the partnership with your PC..



And yes, to everyone:

"PLEASE SOFT RESET after the first flash!!! This is important. You WILL HAVE problems if you use your i780 directly after flashing unless you soft reset. Ultimate 128DPI will be uploaded shortly"

Yes I saw that too. But Samsung never released any roms with Viop that I have seen yet. Even the official SCH-M480 does not have Voip. The settings we see is probably offered in WM6.1 by default with other manufacturer but you can always omit to release it.

After I hard reset, I enter the PIN, let auto-configure adjust the settings for my operator, and try to connect, always get the same error in MSN...

Just turn in off by pressing the off button and swith it on again - that's about the most basic soft reset you can do. Or use a tool like PsshutXP or Schap Advanced Config you can use special command just to do soft reset.

I have tried integrating Esmertec Java with Opera Mini 4.1 but it didn't work so I have to revert back to the original Java that came with it. As long as Opera Mini works I don't care what version the Java is. In 30 mins the 128DPI will be uploaded and it will include Opera Mini 4.1 just like before (no changes)

hope that on the Next newest of all your ROM,the "celluler line" is GPRS,3G NOT GPRS only, but the "celluler line" is GPRS,3G(like most of PDA phones had )

why should "celluler line" GPRS,3G ?? on my country, im using INDOSAT provider sim card.. with "celluler line" GPRS,3G on the i780 phone(im using phone as modem to download all your ROMS) i'm able to use TIME BASED setting.. so im able to browsing,downloading or chatting with TIME CHARGE(100 rupiah/minute)

**even im downloading your ROMS or else, example 50MB just take 45minutes so i just charge 4500rupiah only

but with the "celluler line" is GPRS ONLY i can't use TIME BASED SETTING, i just able to use VOLUME BASED(1 rupiah/kb) evenif already apply with TIME BASED SETTING

Just one question: I notice that the available rom space is the same in every version.

I assume that vanilla version doesn't all the available space.

I understand that most applications can be installed separatelly, and some is better not to include in the ROM because of frequent updates.

But if we can use more ROM, we should include the most popular applications in these versions.

What do you think about creating a pool where everybody can give his opinion on what applications should be included in all released versions?

QIK www.qik.com no longer works.
- It now rotates the screen when the app loads (didn't do that in V4X)
- Stuck at "camera initialize" (did you change the camera driver?)
- After exit, Today screen is all messed up

you should change ur connection settings, then go to select networks, set both to "my internet". that worked for me after i imported the file "testi" in Resco registry.

this rom is amazing..good job EFN:D ive never had a fix with tomtom so fast. i started up tomtom, 30 sec later he found 8 satellites, without portsplitter!.

only problem i face is whenever i start music from the today screen i get an error: "Cannot play the file. The file is either corrupted or the Player does not support the format you are trying to play.."

This is a bug in Samsung Today Plus1. Clicking the music link will generate error like the one you encounterer. but it does not mean anything because WmPlayer will work just fine.

This problem is also present on official roms

Yes a good suggestion.

But please also remember that rom cooking is not my actual work. I may not have the time to test several combinations.

The only reason I keep cooking and tweaking is because WM and i780 interests me very much. And of course in respect of those who already donated $ for my Red Bulls - thank them this thread is very much alive and kicking

Please do continue to give feedbacks, I will do what I can to accomodate them

Of course RealVGa will fail. This is due to the newer build of WM6.1 AND RealVGA is still using WM6 packs. Just wait for the 96DPI release. I am testing it now

ok i think i found the source of the problem. i made a backup using sprite and restored it after flashing to 128dpi v5 ultimate. this is when the problem appeared.

resolved it by backing up again but this time using pimbackup and then restoring it.

You have to change the values in the registry from 409 to 40c.

The easy way is using CEregeditor, which is a graphical editor, but is a bit buggy.

I use rgucomp.exe which is the official M$ tool but is a command line tool.

Search in this forum for rgucomp.exe to know how it works.

I had such problems too with a former release. Problem was that outlook doesn't work, internet explorer or other things did. I noticed that there were settings made in the connection settings which have not been shown their, but outlook wanted to use them. it was a big work to get it working. I have had to edit, delete, try this and that to fix it.

Have you checked which network outlook wants to use and then checked if this name is set in the conmnection settings? at my phone it wasn't...

My problem with WWE Roms is the Messenger and Windows live.
On the swedish Rom, first time you start messenger you´re asked for your windowslive account. I fill in my email adress and password. But on these English Roms I just try to log in right away and it fails. It says I have no connection although I have.

I saw that I have a false Phone ROM on my phone before flashing V5, so I wanted to check all steps with Russion / English ROM before....

But I have a problem to flash the Russian ROM: it stops when the Phone ROM should be written. At that moment the OS tries to install a driver, after som seconds mirage updater logs errors when in the status bar "switching usb to phone" is written:

Then "port create failed" appears....

this rom is amazing..good job EFN:D ive never had a fix with tomtom so fast. i started up tomtom, 30 sec later he found 8 satellites, without portsplitter!.

please try install the "Enable_No_Policy.CAB" first. I am using it on HH1 and v5 128dpi also working fine. Just sometime the handwriting cannot call up. Need soft reset. I am using the "文鼎中黑體U20" is very good.

I have those Internet Problems again, too. And I don't understnad that, let's describe the problem:

On first login to my provider, a tool asks to configure my network settings. Great. When I then look at the settings/connection tab I see these settings:

1) Connections/Tasks: nothing in there in "My Work Networks". I just can Add a new modem connection

2) Connections/Advanced: after clickiong "select networks" the drop down boxes shows both "my work network".

3) GPRS Authentication: here I found (i think) the connections the tool configured by first login to network: in my case: E-Plus MMS, E-Plus WAP GPRS and E-Plus Internet.

4) in Outlook is configured that he should use "The Internet" as network Connection.

Now I open the Internet Explorer, I get the message "cannot connect with current connection settings..." after opening a page. Outlook the same.

OK. Shouldn't it bee like that?
1) here I expect the three connections from the config tool which are shown in 3) under the connection "group" "The Internet"

Could it be that there is something not OK with the settings? Or am I not right with my assumptions?

Changing 2) from "my work network" to "My ISP" also does not get that working...

This problem I had before too. What I have done to get it working is playing around with various settings, deleting, editing and recreating connections... But I have not found any logical things... :/

no that one won't work. The i780 has a slight different plug than the blackjack.
I use S2P for music playback and that works fine as music player. You could also use the built in media player.

if you are using the 96dpi version, you can also use the htc audio manager. it interfaces nicely with htc home and has smaller memory usage.

Together with my highly modified 24 Ohm ETYMOTIC ER-4P In-Ear Monitor. Yes I was a portable audiophile:D

Truth be told, i780 scores badly on playback capabilities specially on the dismal default volume level - if you want to boost i780 volume don't ever use an Equalizer because it will distort badly. But in my 4X and 5X Ultimate rom series, I have included a fix to revert the internal DAC for 0dB of output. Now my ER-4P can sing fairly clear. But otherwise as a music player i780 scores moderately - layer separation was good but the transparency is a bit grainy, headstage is not impressive. But at least they are decent enough to keep me happy. But be reminded that I am saying this from ETYMOTIC ER-4P perspective, most earbuds are not as resolving and sensitive as the ER-4P and chances are good you will not hear the shortcomings.

Well, being a portable audiophile before, I am very critical with sound quality but alas the reason I use i780 was not because of the musical prowess. If I want audiophile grade output I would have kept my now sold Redwine Audio iMod + XIN SuperMicro IV like the one below::eek:

After one day using, the V5X is more functional than V3.3xg, but stability is not as good as it.
1) Input program blocking
I use PlumSIP CHS input, it works well under V3.3, but under V5X, I can see the icon of PlumSIP at bottom bar, but sometimes clip the icon, the input manu bar can not show up, no CHS can be input
2) Switch key not working sometime
I set "au" as the ch-en switch key, but sometimes working sometimes not
3) The left soft key is sometimes locked by "Notification"
An message come in, it changes to Notification, when press it, should pop up the notification details, but sometimes it does not work, and lock the key
All above need restart the phone, I am not sure it is rom problem or someother reason, will keep using it to learn more, and if someone have same problem please share, if someone know the solution please share

b) English DXHE1 (PDA part)
c) EFN's ROM (PDA part)

If you forget the (b) part then you will see problems, like key lock button stopped to work, wrong icons, etc.

I think the combination DXHH1 with v4 or v5 EFN rom is the best.
I used this combination about 1 month and i didnt find a serious bug...
Also, with these above, the GPS function works more quickly. (I use Garmin mobile XT, the latest version)

Normally if flashing failed halfway through, you should be able to enter emergency mode ALT+Enter+Power. Last week my notebook died on me while flashing was around 60%, I took out the battery for a while and then put it back, power on and there the emergency mode is still accessible. If this does not work than I really hope someone can guide you through

I just want to mention I'm using the cable that comes with my wife's Samsung F330 (F338 in HK) which looks exactly as EFN's picture (but white colour). It works perfectly.

I bet any 'late model' Samsung phone accessories should work with our i780.

I've updated my phone radio version(i780DXHH1)- thanks Xanadu! ; )

But yeah...the icon problem is still there... I noticed it is not just the wifi, but some times the 3G icon... and there was once after a call the 'phone' icon remains there.

I suspect it could be the Battery indicator on the taskbar...not sure. Is there a way to uninstall it? :confused:

What is the difference between V5X 128DPI Ultimate and V5X 96DPI Ultimate. I believe the resolution is different.

As far as I know that the i780 has default 128 DPI (More Dots so the resolution should be better/ more clear and small icons?).

Which is better the 128 dpi or the 96 dpi one? Please advice.

Somebody at a Dutch company in the Netherlands stating that they received an official WM 6.1 firmware from Samsung, at the end of this month there should be a flashable file beeing available at samsung.nl (and .com and so on). trying to get my hands on the firmware, the IT department of that company is flashing their phones themselves.. Try this:

Disconnect your device.

On your device, go to Start > Settings > Connection > USB to PC.

Check or uncheck Advanced network functionality.

Connect again.


Disabling Advanced network functionality will not not affect your device and computer. In fact you are just disabling a protocol called RNDIS and reverting to PPP so that your device and computer can communicate effectively.

Flashing Guide To update your i780 (UPDATED 10 OCT ’08)

WHAT YOU NEED:

1) Windows XP SP2 . Mirage does not work with WINDOWS VISTA even if someone tried to make it working (check the first page of this thread for more info)
2) Samsung ActiveSync 4.5
3) Samsung USB driver http://rapidshare.com/files/131736002/20080305035413859_Samsung_USB_Driver_MCCI_4.34_WHQ L_v3.4.exe.html
4) MIRAGE UPDATER
5) Russian PUHE1 or English DXHH1 (to flash the EBOOT+PDA+PHONE)
6) Complete ROM from EFN. You can choose one of the V5 - as you like - (to flash the PDA part) See first page of this thread.
7) 7 zip (software to unzip most of the files you have downloaded)


BEFORE STARTING

1) Check the battery of your telephone! It must be FULL

HOW TO DO IT

(0) Download Mirage Updater, the Samsung USB Driver and ActiveSync 4.5 and install them.
(1) Download the Russian PUHE1 or English DXHH1 (you can find it here in this thread)
(2) Download the EFN ROM you prefer (you can find it on the first page)
(3) Extract the two files downloaded at the point 1 and 2 in the same directory
(4) Switch off your phone and remove the battery, then insert the battery
(5) Connect the telephone to your PC via USB cable
(6) Launch Mirage updater. Select MIRAGE LV image as the profile
(7) Click EBOOT+PDA+PHONE and select the extracted Russian PUHE1 or English DXHH1 (as you like) and wait until Mirage recognize the ROM (you will see the log on the left side).
(8) Click on DETECT
(9) Switch on the phone while holding the ENTER and FUNCTION buttons (the green and red on the sides of the finger mouse. As soon as the telephone starts (you will see the red light on the top switching on) immediately release all the buttons.
(10) After the system DETECT your phone a message appears in your I780 screen.
(11) Wait until the image is written. The mirage light on the top will be BLUE and your telephone switch off.
(12) Disconnect the cable and switch-on your phone. Immediately after the first START make a SOFT reset

NOW the first part is done! Let’s start with the second to install EFN’S ROM V5

(13) Repeat steps 4-12 but, this time, for step 7 select PDA in Mirage . Choose the EFN’S ROM and wait until the process is finish. Then, at the first start make a soft reset (again).

IMPORTANT:

1) Always remove the battery before starting a process. Always make a soft reset when finished.

When someone reports a bug, I will always check on my i780 to see if I can simulate them. The limitation is, I can only fix them if my i780 is having that problem as well. From what I can see now, my i780 is behaving exactly the same like Pip_X i780

Confirm !

EFN is a really hard-working guy and he always try his best to fix the bugs. I also disagree with the idea that something "official" is the best. Many people in the world are trying to put their experience into the "official" and make it better. And they share their works for free. What do you expect more ? That's why I used a TinyVista for my luxury tablet, even it come with a genuine Vista.

Anyway, I am still waiting for the 96 DPI Standard version. Hope get it soon.

You aren't getting internet through your active sync. It shows you connected to HSDPA! Maybe have data connection enabled in active sync. I have it disabled so it will never attempt a data connection when I have it plugged in to PC. However, activesync internet is working here for me.

Just installed V5X.96DPI Ultimate, so far running fine. I just noticed that the SMS Sent notification is not working. I already enabled it using Advanced Config, soft reset the device, installed the MMS Fixed, but still problem occur. Anyone here got same problem? I am also in the same boat. Flashed 4x sucessfully, tried to flash 5x rom, but wanted to update the eboot and radio rom to HH1.
Downloaded eboot + phone rom as per Xandu link, flash them with mirage, eboot works fine, phone part has a few retry in mirage but was reported fine. After that, phone power off automatically but will not respond to power key :(
Now, my precious i780 is sitting in Samsung service center, hopefully they will help me recover the dead phone.

I found a mediafire link for the full english i780 HH1 rom (phone + eboot + PDA), hope that it is useful. Use it at your own risk as I have no phone to test it.

I am also in the same boat. Flashed 4x sucessfully, tried to flash 5x rom, but wanted to update the eboot and radio rom to HH1.

Guys, this is not a big deal! Not all the ROMs give you the possibility to format the phone using the RED+GREEN button combination when booting the phone, and that does NOT mean that your phone is dead! You just have to do couple of simple stemps:

1: Download the Russian image from here (http://www.mediafire.com/?jdwwmjtt960) and flash your phone with it. If you are unable to boot your phone, that is not a problem, you don't have to boot up your phone to flash it! Take off the battery, put it back again, and press the two buttons indicated by the two arrows in the image below, keep pressing and in the meanwhile press the power button, do not release the two buttons until you see the EMERGENCY MODE. http://img407.imageshack.us/img407/3350/samsungsghi780te1.jpg

To flash your phone with the russian image, hit the button you see in the image and point to the extracted russian image.

You will notice that the filed LOADER, PDA and PHONE have values in it, namely _eboot.nb0, _xip0.nb0, and _phone.bin. This is normal, because the image is a collection of all these 3 parts. After couple of seconds, hit the DETECT button. Only at this time you should connect your Samsung to the computer, and remember, it has to be in emergency mode. The flashing operation will take place and it will take you around 7 minutes to complete the whole thing. At the end, your phone will be switched off.

At this time, disconnect the cable, remove the battery and count to 3. Put the battery back again and switch on your phone. If you leave the phone now, you will notice that it will boot correctly and will start the russian Windows Mobile. The russian image proved to be a very stable image, this is why EFN suggests installing it first.

Of course a russian phone is of no use if you don't understand it, this is when you have to reflash your phone with the latest ROM released in this forum. Let us say that you want to flash your samsung with the EV5X.128_PXIHH5 ROM, so go ahead and download it first, extract it and start the Mirage software. The EV5X.128_PXIHH5 ROM is not like the russian ROM, it contains the PDA part only. This means that the resultant phone would have the EV5X.128_PXIHH5 PDA part (English or Italian) and the russian PHONE part.

To flash the EV5X.128_PXIHH5, do the following: Take off the battery, put it back again, and press the two buttons indicated by the two arrows in the first image above, keep pressing and in the meanwhile press the power button, do not release the two buttons until you see the EMERGENCY MODE. Start the Mirage software, press the button indicated by the arrow (PDA) and point to the EV5X.128_PXIHH5 file. Wait for Mirage to read the file correctly, then press the detect button.

Take off the battery, count to 3, put it back again, switch on your phone normally. Wait for the boot, calibrate your phone, personalize it a bit then do a reset.

As EFN mentioned many times, you have to reset your phone to calibrate it. Reset means == Stick the head of the small pen you have in your samsung into the hole on the left side of the phone, just below the volume button. It is like the reset button in your computer! This would help your phone calibrate your provider settings, bluetooth (I forgot to reset the phone and bluetooth didn't work, so I reset the phone and now everything goes smooth)

I've updated my phone radio version(i780DXHH1)- thanks Xanadu! ; )

But yeah...the icon problem is still there... I noticed it is not just the wifi, but some times the 3G icon... and there was once after a call the 'phone' icon remains there.

I suspect it could be the Battery indicator on the taskbar...not sure. Is there a way to uninstall it? :confused:

Flashing Guide To update your i780 (UPDATED 10 OCT ’08)

WHAT YOU NEED:

1) Windows XP SP2 . Mirage does not work with WINDOWS VISTA even if someone tried to make it working (check the first page of this thread for more info)
2) Samsung ActiveSync 4.5
3) Samsung USB driver http://rapidshare.com/files/131736002/20080305035413859_Samsung_USB_Driver_MCCI_4.34_WHQ L_v3.4.exe.html
4) MIRAGE UPDATER
5) Russian PUHE1 or English DXHH1 (to flash the EBOOT+PDA+PHONE)
6) Complete ROM from EFN. You can choose one of the V5 - as you like - (to flash the PDA part) See first page of this thread.
7) 7 zip (software to unzip most of the files you have downloaded)


BEFORE STARTING

1) Check the battery of your telephone! It must be FULL

HOW TO DO IT

(0) Download Mirage Updater, the Samsung USB Driver and ActiveSync 4.5 and install them.
(1) Download the Russian PUHE1 or English DXHH1 (you can find it here in this thread)
(2) Download the EFN ROM you prefer (you can find it on the first page)
(3) Extract the two files downloaded at the point 1 and 2 in the same directory
(4) Switch off your phone and remove the battery, then insert the battery
(5) Connect the telephone to your PC via USB cable
(6) Launch Mirage updater. Select MIRAGE LV image as the profile
(7) Click EBOOT+PDA+PHONE and select the extracted Russian PUHE1 or English DXHH1 (as you like) and wait until Mirage recognize the ROM (you will see the log on the left side).
(8) Click on DETECT
(9) Switch on the phone while holding the ENTER and FUNCTION buttons (the green and red on the sides of the finger mouse. As soon as the telephone starts (you will see the red light on the top switching on) immediately release all the buttons.
(10) After the system DETECT your phone a message appears in your I780 screen.
(11) Wait until the image is written. The mirage light on the top will be BLUE and your telephone switch off.
(12) Disconnect the cable and switch-on your phone. Immediately after the first START make a SOFT reset

NOW the first part is done! Let’s start with the second to install EFN’S ROM V5

(13) Repeat steps 4-12 but, this time, for step 7 select PDA in Mirage . Choose the EFN’S ROM and wait until the process is finish. Then, at the first start make a soft reset (again).

IMPORTANT:

1) Always remove the battery before starting a process. Always make a soft reset when finished.

The V5X HH5 96 DPI ultimate works very well here after MMS fix. I have a very fast GPS fix (< 2 min at the first time). It contains Chinese characters display that corrects the problem of V4 when using Samsung RSS.

To flash the EV5X.128_PXIHH5, do the following: Take off the battery, put it back again, and press the two buttons indicated by the two arrows in the first image above, keep pressing and in the meanwhile press the power button, do not release the two buttons until you see the EMERGENCY MODE

The funny thing is, no matter what I do or how long I press the key combinations, there is no power, the phone will not respond anymore. This is also not the first time I flash my phone, I had flashed all the past EFN great roms.

Maybe my mistake was to flash the eboot and radio at the same time, or maybe the download was corrupted.

Not blaming anyone here, just trying to share my experience.

The Cabs Collection contains official Samsung apps from DXHH1 which was removed on all of my rom releases (Podcasts, RSS etc) and also cabs for some stuffs included in Ultimate series.

Only PUHE1 is Russian. Before the WWE DXHH1 IMG came out, PUHE1 was the best thing we have for full IMG flash.

Some people use PUHE1, some use DXHH1. BOTH are Good. You could not go wrong with either one. I personally use PUHE1 still for my Phone section because it works perfectly for my use.

Once PUHE1 OR DXHH1 has been flashed then you can flash the PDA section with WM6.1

You can find DXHH1 full IMG in another thread. Just search for it.

Yes ActiveSync is the same. The one from Samsung is still a Microsoft ActiveSync.

This is just the "dumbproof" way.

Obviuosly it works. But you can flash pda, eboot and phone in one step, and time is money...

All you need are the three discrete files and not the full rom

The problem I'm facing though is that my i780 is failing on me. Whenever I call someone or someon calls me the phone either ends the connection right away, I hear all kinds of cracking, the other person doesn't hear me, etc. You can hardly call the i780 a phone but I sure need that aspect of it to work propperly.

I was running the V3.3XG rom with PUHE1 and everything worked as a charm until for no reason the earlier problems came up. I reflashed with the lastest EV5X.96_ultimate, but still the problems remain the same. I'm pretty sure the problem is with the hardware itself (unless somebody here recognizes the problem and knows better ofcourse). So the obvious thing to do is send it back to the service center, but I can't find the original ROM anywhere (I'm really sorry if the link is somewhere in this thread, but I've looked for hours). Is there any plce I can find the original and what about the EBOOT+PDA+PHONE part of the flash; what image should I use for that one?
