A lot of the steps mentioned are, in normal conditions, not needed:

To flash the phone just, connect the cable, launc mirage, choose the needed file(s) and options, push the detect button and softereset the phone.

I have reduced and updated the pdf guide on the first page of this thread.

I think that for someone who starts from ZERO it can be helpful to know all the steps from A to Z... :)

I know that most of us does know I.E. that XP is a MUST but 1 month ago I didn't...
I have tried to be helpful for what I have learned in 1 month... :)

1. I used to use SPB weather on SPB Shell. Is there a weather programme compatible with the Samsung Today plugin ?

Only thing has changed is upgrading to 5X 128 ultimate from v.4. In opera now when typing in the URL box, I get the last key pressed repeating. Nowhere else on machine does this happen.

Is this likely to be an opera problem or maybe a keyboard driver issue?

Hi!

I've installed the 96dpi Ultimate version on my i780 and it works fine - thanks for the great work. I only have one minor bug so far. When I start a call, the appearing call screen is blank in the upper half. I can see the buttons (e.g. end call or speaker), but I can't see the calling time or the number / name called, the upper part of the screen (between the bar at the very top and the buttons and the bottom) is just blank...and I don't use anything else than the standard WM6.1-theme, so any idea how I can fix this?

I've got a couple of problems which I've picked up. They either might or might not be phone related but I'm a bit stumped.

1. I've loaded the MMS cab fix but cannot open up an MMS attachment. I get a message saying "Data connection failed. Check data connection settings".

As far as my connection settings are concerned; I can send and receive email and I can connect to the internet, so I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

2. Secondly, I can send a file via Bluetooth to my phone from my laptop but not the other way around.

Any suggestions ?

I have the problem (as written) in some custom ROMs that sometimes I don't get a notification when an emails arrive and the phone is in standby. When I reactivate the phone it rings directly ...

Could it be that the communication between PHONE and OS is not the best and/or has problems? I have had these problems also with other customized ROMs and devices (like HTC TyTN)...

I just want to throw that information into the round. But it seems that noone else got this problem or is not recognizing it.

Managed to get BT working (how I don't know :confused:) but still playing around with the connection settings for the MMS.

I made several hard resets to be sure I was following the instructions...

- 1st time it boots it asks if I want to set operator settings I say NO.
- I restart phone Settings->System->operator Setting "Vodafone" then OK button

On Connections I cannot see the "Vodafone Internet" nor any other modem connection... I can create a new one.

On Connection|Advanced I can only see "My Isp" or "My Work Network" but in Settings->Connections->GPRS Authentication I can see the one I created and including "vodafone internet","vodafone WAP", "vodafone MMS" created by the "Operator settings" application.

Regarding WLM it always show immediatly a message saying "There's a connectivity problem. Make sure you're in an area with good reception and try again." GPRS connection is not stablished nor used if already connected.

Firstly, thanks to EFN for his excellent rom - v5 seems to be much better than the v3 I had before. I had the same problems as you, nCoder - the phone didn't seem to automatically pick up any Mobile carrier settings (I.e. gprs and MMS APN) so I had to set these manually. Have you tried this?

After doing this, everything works ok, except for Windows Live (same error message as yourself). I've never had much luck getting this to work with a WM6 phone though.

I second the finding...have installed the 6.1 ultimate..its work terrific...everything run like a breeze, but WLM has the same error.r..i have reset ....hard reset..soft reset more than 5 times..same error... Now I believe my i780 is telepathic! even if i hard reset without SIM card nor MicroSD, it automatically creates wap,mms and internet Vodafone entries (I see this on GPRS Authentication)... and, more amaizing: a vodafone mail account in messaging... Of course in connections settings I can only see an empty "My Isp".

I deleted all Vodafone related entries in registry, removed battery, hard reset... and AMAZING: It knew that I have a vodafone SIM in my pocket!!!

I know this is not a big deal, considering that everything (except WLM) works perfectly if I set the connections manually. But is a little bit anoying - as I said, it's my 21st hard reset!

all is awesome,
the samsung today 1 & 2 are great,

however,
i found small bug on the today screen,
it is on the 3G/ Wifi Connections/ ActiveSync icon on the top bar.
it seems to stay there even if you're done with the program,
for example, if I were to use ActiveSync, and after done with it, the activesync icon on the top bar still reside. the same with the wifi, even after i turn off the wifi, the icon still reside as if i have active wifi connection.
any ideas of fixing this? small i'd say, but it's pretty crucial.

after investigation I found the connections in the registry keys (1) have a wrong DestId and don't join the destinations in the registry keys (2).

Where:
(1) is HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A38-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections
(2) is HKLM\Comm\ConnMgr\Destinations

I have found a problem in V5.96.ultimate. It is a problem with the USSD system.
When using *100# (Telstra pre-paid menu), it usually has:
1. My Prepaid
2. Recharge
3. Caller Tones
4. Tones / Pics
5. News /Wthr
6. Sport

Checking this solved the issue. I'm using Vodafone Italy but it doesn't seems to be related to this specific operator as with all the other italian ones available i have the same behavior (no connection configured disaplyed).

Just FYI today my SD storagecard can't readable and suddenly it asked to be formated to be read again after i receive a SMS. I just reset the device without format the SD card and everything looks normal again.

today i tried another operator sim on EFNv5 rom..the phone ask me if i would set new operator setting and i choose "no"..then i re-insert my sim and now i have some problem with WLM that say there is a network problem and it doesn't connect anymore..IE mobile works fine and skype mobile works fine too.

is this a bug?
how can i restore WLM? (maybe a registry modification?)

Ok guys here some tip for u all.

- Remove the SIM card before flashing.
- After flashed to a new ROM, poke the reset hole to soft-reset the phone, or even better, hard reset it once, then soft-reset again. This is to initialize the phone. After that, put in the SIM card, power on the phone, let it initialize, then soft reset again.
- Test every connection (WIFI,BT,3G, GPS, MMS etc etc etc) BEFORE you use/install any third party software. Problem mostly occur due to incompatible third party software.
- Do not use any backup software to back ANYTHING when you are migrating from one ROM to another ROM. Use activesync to sync your PIM to Outlook, flash new ROM, then sync back from outlook to ur phone. RE-INSTALL all your software instead.

Your phone should be working as it supposed to, now.
My phone do not have any of the problem mentioned.

As I mentioned repeatedly in the first page and all over the thread. You will need a simple SOFT RESET to get things calibrated properly. Just poke the soft reset hole and it will all be sorted out. Cheers.

Yes EFN, this is what I have done 3 times! Nothing has changed at all, FORMAT, HARD RESET, SOFT RESET, it didn't change anything.

I'm starting to think that not all Samsung mobiles are identical even in the same country, the same region, and same area. My company had a bulck offer from Samsung and I immagine that they should be the same, but it seems it is not!

I have the same problem, but with the same sim card using other 3G phones, i can make video calls.

just want to say that after one week of testing I want to congratulate EFN for a very good job on this ROM. I'm using V5X 96dpi Ultimate and after the MMS fix I have no problems encountered. I've tried everything including MMS, 3G and hell I even have no problems in Internet Sharing to my laptop using the USB connection (I'm doing this right now).

The SA versions of the phone come out standard as 128dpi. I've had mine for close to 3 months and have flashed EFN's ROM's on numerous occasions.

I'm currently running V5_128 Ultimate with HH1 and have to say that my phone runs far better than the standard ROM and version of WM that the phone comes out with.

If you want to flash your phone just follow the instructions as set out in the pdf whcih you'll find on the first page.

In so far as 96 vs 128 dpi is concerned, I prefer 128 as its far easier on the eyes (ie the font is bigger than 96 dpi)

No I won't call it cancelled. Working on AZERTY and QWERTZ was quite difficult. I only managed to get an 80% running and two major problems which I can't resolve - Phone Pad unable to load and Notepad gone missing. So I don't want to release an unfinished rom in that condition.

norwegian symbols can be found by typing the closest similar letter followed immediately by the symbol key áü

Open sym.0409.txt from /windows with notepad and remove unwanted characters and add new layout; then save it and you can reach with one "áü" your characters.
For example you can edit like this:

Nothing needed, igo8 49545 was made for samsung i780 and i got it bunded with my unit on a 2 GB sd-card. Every newest igo8 included 320x320 resolution in data.zip or in branding.zip and works. I mean official NavNgo Igo8 not warez stuff.

FYI Samsung i780 has built-in agps therefore I don't use EXTERNAL GPS nor external gps settings.
Igo8 don't need baud rate settings, etc. everythings works out of box.

I have "Original Unmodded WM6.1 PXIHH5" but I have some problem with the connection of internal GPS.
I using Oziexplorer (GPS Mapping Software). When I start the GPS connection it start but immediately after it stopped and it doesn't give me the fix.
In the program configuration I try to set the GPS in COM9 but It doesn’t run
After I set GPS External wuth
GPS: COM3
Hardware: COM9
Baud: 4800
I re-try to set GPS in COM3 but It doesn’t run.

another question: i use the samsung today 2 theme and it is very disturbing, when i used some other application (which still runs in the background) and then it is still shown at the bottom of the home screen... because then i get a stupid scrollbar at the home screen.

i guess i can disable that in the registry, but i have no idea where!?

Today I flashed my Samsung i780 to HH1.img and for the PDA part to v5x ultimate and go to the Phone section and still there is no option to Paste numbers. I choose the Keypad from the Phone application and there is a Paste option. However, push the red button and now I can't copy paste inside the Phone application anymore. Please help... Thanks.

My Garmin Mobile XT will take around 15 to 20 minutes for the first fix. And it will show three bars initally. After that the subsequent fixes takes only seconds which is lightning fast.

I use COM1 and the rest all remained unchanged. XTRA is switched off

i have one more question: i still don't get all the flashing and upgrading possibilities. i flashed my PDA to i780PXIHH5 (thats the newest i guess), but my PHONE is still at i780PUHE1 (which is not the newest i guess).

should i flash the PHONE to something newer? which one? what are the benefits of it?

Sometimes is a "paste" line in the Dialpad menu, sometimes not.

Ok. So I've been reading through these posts and I sort of understand what's going on but I could use some help.

only the Italian ROM is 6.1 (PXIHH5 to be exact) but only for the PDA part. Russian ROM is a complete dump of the E1 ROM that provides the other components (Phone/E-boot) that proves to be the best base to make the 6.1 PDA ROM stable (meaning you can still use the phone to actually make and receive calls, etc.). H1 is also a good base as it solves bugs found in the E1 ROM.

the Russian ROM was used before because there were no other dumps available for the E1 ROM (for the Phone and E-boot parts), which gave the best stability and connectivity to i780 when it was released, until the H1 full dump appeared. The English E1 ROMs that can be found during those times were only for the PDA part.

Based from EFN (the 6.1 ROM master chef), the ROMs he created were tested primarily from E1 and H1 ROM as base. I think it is best to install full H1 or the Russian E1 first so that your i780 will be stable.

Although you can skip it and test it. You can always re-flash if you encounter any problems. In that case you may post your findings here. :D

Kitchen is used to create your own ROM.

128 dpi is the default or native resolution of i780. It makes the screen of i780 look like 240 by 240 instead of the hardware specification (320by320).

96dpi makes full use of the screen resolution.

V5X is the fifth generation of EFN ROMs for i780. It is now based on the WM6.1 designed for i780. Previous versions (ie V4X) uses WM6.1 from other phones.

My initial flash outcome was HE1/HH5 and all was well... even the red button hold to unlock works as far as I can remember.

Then I re-flashed into HH1/HH5 and I can confirm that with this combination, the red button to hold, even the lock shortcut at the HTC home/launcher doesn't work (found workaround was to include a lock/unlock item at the htc today screen)

btw, I'm using the V5X 96dpi ultimate. everything else works fine! :)

i have a stupid problem with the alarm settings. isn't it possible to set an alarm which will sound also with turned off phone?

Well, I can answer about one issue I encountered after upgraded do EFN's V5X 128DPI Standard ROM without upgrading to E1 or H1! The only issue I seem to have found is the fact that Enhanced GPS doesn't update like in ROM MSHC3 and DXHD1... Maybe because I haven't done the upgrade of the phone part, not sure!

I'll only update the phone part when the WM6.1 ROM is released in my country, Portugal, because I've been reading som things here at the forum and it seems that for some the upgrade of the phone part brought more troubles than advantages! I don't won't to be one of those that add and still have problems with that :s

you should flash your phone to the newest version. v5x ultimate or standard and then put the external gps settings to com8 and com9 baudrate 4800.

in igo you set the gps receiver on auto (he should find com8 and connect)

for tomtom you need to set "other nmea device" and com8 as well.

with this settings, both programs should run! (they run on mine)

- PDA : i780PDXHI1
- PHONE : i780PDXHI1

I think it could be the latest ROM by Samsung.

The phone is working smoothly except there is no message thread like most other WM6.1 pda (eg. HTC Diamond) and you will not have the message sent notification after you sent a sms message.

I also can't installed RealVGA 96dpi, there's this "Cprog.exe" problem message and the keypad will not function at all!!!

You also can't read Chinese character with this rom, you will need to install third party software like the CESTAR V2.8R3c.

I'm really frustrated b'cos I can't run most of my favourite softwares without having the realVGA 96dpi, and I'm really considering re-flash the rom to the original WM6.0.

I've read a lot from this blog about downloading new rom into i780, is there a way to upload/backup the exisitng rom to the PC before we try the new rom, so that we could re-flash the original rom if we encounter any problem.

I would really like to try the V5X 96dpi ultimate, is it possible to use it with i780PDXHI1?

Can someone please advise.

I am using the 96 Dpi Ultimate ROM without any hitch.
Lately I observed that whenever I use my Jabra Bluetooth 8010 for answering the calls the person on the other end is not able to hear me clearly. This problem is not there when I use the handset only (Without the Bluetooth).
I also observed that restarting the bluetooth corrected the problem. Any Suggestions??????

I still have an untouched i780 using the i780DXHA1 rom. I've been reading up on the various improvements and suggestions for updating but keep getting confused on which are the proper steps to take.
What is the latest method to flash my unit to use v5x? I am using Vista32 on my PC.
According to the Flashing Guide, since I am not running DXHE1 yet I still need to do a lot of things. Now, I have been reading that E1 PDA rom has been updated with a more stable H1 PDA rom. So do I still need to update to the Russian rom first then, E1, etc.?
Also, sorry for being such a newbie, but I can't seem to find where the links are to get the Mirage Updater, Russian Roms, E1 PDA rom.
Appreciate if someone has the latest step by step to go from a virgin unit to updating to v5x. I am sure a lot of ppl would benefit from such a guide.

Sorry for a late reply, but I was assisting classes at the university! With iGO I only get a satellite lock if a start other gps program like NDrive! After NDrive locks gps signal, I terminate the program and start iGO and only then I have gps signal at iGO!

I think you should also try this,
go to START then TOOLS then ADVANCE CONFIG V31
then INPUT there you can adjust Keyboard backlight timeout as well
and a lot of other things.

already try portsplitter no luck.
in my country (indonesia) gamin has bigger poi and detailed map. but i like igo8 very much (very nice ui). so i guest it just personal satisfaction (i installed garmin and map king before, on ipaq 6515, and gamin and tomtom5 on ipaq 57xx. no problem on both device and software, i'm hoping the same on my i780)

I also got some hands on experience yesterday here at Microsoft PDC with official Samsung i780 6.1 ROM. After Samsung officials previously said, that it was taking them bit longer to release it, because they wanted to offer some extra value, I was quite dissapointed to find out that there was nothing special there, even the same Opera.

Someone with inside info kind of hinted that the release timetable has been delayed because of difficulties with upgrading and not because of anything else. There is of course a slim change that they will still add something to the final release.

Also interesting was when asked about mobile IE, they were really keen to suggest to try their competitors products, like Skyfire and kind of threw IE mobile to trash.

I would not call Mobile IE trash, despite using Opera Mini for my browsing need most of th time, I still use Mobile IE specially for internet banking and some websites that seems to load better bit IE

Remove the battery again and recharge first. Do this a few times if you must. I have been in this situation before and sometimes it's just due to weak batterty connection

It changes usually I flashed some i780 with this roms without any problems; maybe you made an incorrect flashing or you have hardware failure.

i780 comes with WM6 and it got GPS. I dun think the graphic is suck, the screen is nice, 320x320 instead of 240x240 found in most square screen phones.
I suggest you to just go to your service center to flash your phone if you want the latest firmware for your phone. Flashing ROM on your own will be very difficult if you are not able to even differenciate between WM5,WM6 and WM6.1.

Why should I make a soft reset on my unit, it works fine and flashed my i780 over 30 times and tried every available roms? Flashed succesfully before over 100 times every kind of wm 2002, 2003, w5 and wm6 units and revived lot of bricked HTC, Mio and Samsung products.

Theme for ms 2.1 works only on 96 dpi (320x320) On 128 dpi works only "factory" spb ms 2.1.2 320x320 theme.

I'm using the beta RELEASE 3.1.1 downlodable here http://www.imarche.net/omnia/index.php on a i780 with spb ms 2.1.2 on 128 DPI. Great skins and they works fine.

I think using a 240x240 skin on a 320x320 unit is a shit.

When once in a while someone gives support to the i780 that works OK on the i780, we should be grateful and not miscredit this fact. If you don't like it, you can express yourselves in another manner :(

I mean some i780 has a weekness and after flashing (even reflashed 3 times as usually at wm) has problems and this weekness exist on HTC pdaphones too.
