Well, looks like there is a problem if you cooked the ROM. I have MSHC3 installed, and it would not let me do neither the UK nor the Nordic... :(

OK, tested by flashing onto my i780 - workx 100% as far as I can tell :cool:

This is - ENGLISH, NON-BRANDED, without the annoying COMMA problem (feature?), keyboard settings work.. and includes operator settings.. I guess this is the best official ROM so far

Is it possible to install this directly from MSHC3? I.e. a WM 6.0 version? Or do I need to go via a Russian rom etc as indicated early on in this post?

Well, looks like there is a problem if you cooked the ROM. I have MSHC3 installed, and it would not let me do neither the UK nor the Nordic... :(

Nope! Shift to some old WM6.0 ROM via mirage and then update by official updater. Check Xanadu's Mediafire directory for a copy of the old ROM.

You are correct this seems to happen with me too. Have observed this problem with most of the WM6.1 ROMs. May be there is some settings which have to be changed..... since this happens only with the conatcts program!

I have the same problem. I upgraded my i780 with the official WM6.1. Now my Navigationprogram IGO8 can find the internal GPS but can't find any satellites at all.

I tried some more and now it works fine with Garmin and WM6.1.

Be sure that you have an open sky above you when you try to connect. If you're standing between two large buildings the small antenna in i780 makes it hard for it to find any satellites.

Hi, if you enable the A-GPS setting in the settings panel, GPS sync is very fast and it very quicly pinpoints your location.
Only thing is that you need to have GPRS or a Data plan to use A-GPS.

In your case I would update using the official Samsung updater and then flash some of the cooked ROMs..

I'm new to i780 here, and just grabbed a copy of EFN's ROMs. I'm a little bit confused, I chose the 96DPI Ultimate edition, but I also see a section showing support cabs for all V5X ROMs. So, could someone please tell me If I still need to install all those cabs? I have a Malaysian version of 6.0. I want to use one of the official updates for the 6.1 updates, but apparently I need to have one of the 6.0 versions from the countries which are available for updates. My questions are:

1) Can you just simply enter a version code from the country on the samsung website to get access to the official 6.1 update, or will the upgrade not work unless you actually have a previous version from that country?

2) If I have to re-flash to a 6.0 version from one of the upgrade countries, is the UK version best? Or Singapore? (for English language)

3) Do you have to reflash only the PDA part if you do that?

4) And where do you find the 6.0 version that is appropriate? It is impossible to find it in the forum now due to the size... :(

I have the SCH-M480, and I'm trying to flash it so I can install an English verison of the Korean WM6.1, but I'm stuck at step 8 of the flash sequence...
(8) Switch on the phone while holding the ENTER and FUNCTION buttons (ALT BUTTON)
Apparently the buttons are switched around, because it just keeps on booting up like normal. No "system detect", nothing different from normal start whatsoever. Tried taking the SIM out just in case too, as well as trying multiple button combinations, but still nothing. Does any body have any idea what the buttons I'm looking for would be?

if im not wrong, you have to install first the "Mirage PDXHH1" (wm 6.0) and then you can download from the official site a newest rom
if you choose Singapore you will download the PDXHL2
if you choose Uk you will download a K1 but you need before a BV rom version

I can find the second on, in state. However my "actionmetod" has dword 3001.

HLKM\DRIVERS\BULTIN\ has NO mouse folder. Strange, huh? :) Furthermore, I couldn't find mouse.dll in the \Windows directory and yes I did select show all files. And all this in an umodded official rom XBhk2..

Since this, I can turn the PDA in, but phone does not work.

I hope I did not brick the phone, but I find no solution to returning. Now phone version is still XDHE1, but not working.

There's a solution. First of all, which version would you like in your phone? Search the forum for bricked i780. You will need a file called i780_PUHE1_Rev12.img to flash initially. (Eboot + PDA + Phone button in mirage.) After that, flash it again using PDA button and i780pda_DXHE1.bin file. Your i780 will now have DXHE1 as PDA version and PUHE1 phone version.

In order to make samsungs official updater work with your phone, download HxD, open the XBHK2_XP.exe (Or equalient) (Needs to be extracted from the orginal .exe since there's a lot of other files in there.)

Choose edit --- Replace. Search for I780XB (Or whatever version you have downloaded, could be DX, CS, and so on). Replace with i780(Your phoneversion) Save file. It's important to do this action with the "replace" function in Hxd rather than just selecting and deleting, since it alters the length of the file.

The Samsung upgrader will now accept your PDA version for upgrade.

Uuuuh, thanks Hawkish_h!! I thought I completely bricked the phone. I'm coming from HTC Trinity, where it was possible to brick the phone when stuck in or failed during update.

And also thx for the detailed help, I found HTC upgrading kinda easier, maybe it's just a question of experience.

Which version of phone I want? Well, I was guessing that this XDHE1 is kinda old one, so I was looking for an up-to-date one. Also I had the problem, that I was unable to hide sim contacts (I put my sim back to a nokia once in a while, so I keep copy of my contacts on sim). I modified registry but it never solved. When I changed PDA rom, it didn't solve. So I thought it will be Phone rom then.

What do you suggest? I know it is stupid quesiton...

I read from the IB1 thread that it is needed to downgrade to HL2 or PUHE1 before we can upgrade to IB1. Is that true?

There's a solution. First of all, which version would you like in your phone? Search the forum for bricked i780. You will need a file called i780_PUHE1_Rev12.img to flash initially. I currently have a cooked 6.1 rom installed on my i780, and now there is an official release for 6.1 for my version, but the firmware upgrader does not seem to work. It resets the phone as part of its operation before it begins the download, but the phone just boots up as normal and the download does not occur. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or can anyone tell me how I can get the official 6.1 rom on to my phone? If it is indeed worth it.

There is a ROM with TouchFlo2D included. You can give it a try.
Search for "i780 heroes ROM".

Mate do a search on the forum. I know somewhere around here is a thing that explains what year that rom was brought out. Have you tried updating your phone on the official Samsung site? Do you have windows 6.0 or 6.1? The newest official Rom is 6.1.

Strange, it worked for me. Try opening a different updater to see if winrar still gives that error or if it s because of the updater version

Just found the reason why it didn't work.

I tried the Vista version of several roms but they are a new type of updater.

Downloading the XP updater (a lot smaller in size too. Around 40MB smaller) I can extract it.

EDIT: No, didn't work.
The XP updater unpacks into an installer just like the Vista one which does not unpack.

Any other suggestions other than dumping the rom from the phone?

Cmon someone must have some knowledge of these versions and if we can upgrade without to many hassles...My questions are very straight forward, so if someone can take the time to answer them carefully, so many more users can find it usefull.

I started a new thread with your questions but didn't get any real answers... If people overseas are upgrading their phones with non matching version ROMs then I'm sure we could too.

The only worry is the different cell technology, but from what I understand we should be able to keep the stock phone version and just upgrade the PDA version...

I would be supprised if there was any major hardware difference between any of these versions, most likely just like region codes to limit peoples warranty and generally give the consumer less power/freedom.

I am tempted to flash mine with one of the version in the OP but I am a little worried a bout compatibility between PXIHH5 PDA and DTHD1 phone.

What is the likelihood of these two versions being incompatible?

Also I just set up my phone so nicely with SPB SHELL3.0 and garmin xt. Would be shame having to set all that up again... It's running well but 6.1 would be nicer

Well I gave up waiting and dove right in and updated the PDA part with i780 Heroes WM6.1 Final ROM. (was the only one I could find quickly)

Basically I took the following steps;

run Mirage Updater:
- select PDA in Mirage updater
- Select .bin file in my case i780 Heroes WM6.1 Final ROM.
- Wait until Mirage Updater finishes checking the bin file
- Press Detect.....wait

now on the phone..
- Take OUT the battery (MUST!) and then put it back
- Switch on the phone while holding the ENTER and FUNCTION buttons (ALT BUTTON)
- Wait until you see the boot msg
- Then Plug in the USB cable
- It should begin downloading automatically and once done you can disconnect your i780
- Reset & DONE!

( I found a procedure in PDF that talk about loading the russian DXHE1 ROM E1 english version first, but I didn't bother and jumped straight to this ROM )

**Now the only I problem I encountered after it booted was the align screen loop issue began!!! I didn't have this issue prior so I can only assume it has something to do with the flashing.**

The temp solution for me was I added a empty txt file on my storage card (installed in phone) labeled "welcome.not" without quotes of course :)

I tried an alternate solution by editing the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\HARDWARE\DEVICEMAP\TOUCH:MaxCal Error vale from 7 to 20, but this didn't work.

the file on the card bypassed the alignscreen :D so I could finally use the ROM.

The ROM and phone is behaving far better than the OEM firmware, but as the alignment is all messed up, this new ROM is not the best of options for me until I figure out the issue with the touchscreen section. (The phone is only weeks old, so I doubt hardware failure)

One thing I forgot to do was back up my original ROM, so if any Aussies out there are thinking of flashing, could you please backup the ROM prior to flashing as I want to revert back and see if the alignment recovers.

1. If you want 128dpi, heroes 1.1 is the best rom imo. If you want 96dpi try one of the 96dpi roms here. I still think you should try the heroes rom, you'll love every bit of it! From speed to integrated manilla 2d!

2. No idea

3. Mirage update works fine...many of us have used it without problems. Only if you turn out to be unlucky, you do have a remote possibility of bricking. But as long as you take the following precautions -
a. Upgrade to a russian rom (pda+phone+eboot - .img file)
b. Upgrade PDA section ONLY to E1 rom
c. Then upgrade ONLY PDA section to any other rom you find here....
d. Make sure your battery is fully charged
e. Before getting into emergency mode, pull the battery out and put it back in

4. Last but one row - first and last buttons. Hold it down, with the power button. Once the LED starts to glow, you can let go of the power button but continue to hold Fn+enter until you see it in emergency mode.

5. No work around unless you have an official rom update from samsung for your phone/region. There's another way to hex edit the rom from samsung to make it work for your phone's version...

For flashing instructions....look around, if you still dont find it, post back or pm me...

No you don't but if you have an old eboot you should update it to the latest one (HL2 or IB1)..

You should use any of the FULL OFFICIAL updaters available - e.g. HL2 or IB1, they update all parts of the phone (eboot/phone/pda) .. then theoretically you should be able to get into EMERGENCY mode even if the cooked ROM doesent work. However bricks are always possible...

no problem, everyone must start somewhere.. beware of the glossy screen though, quite difficult to read under direct sunlight and also less responsive touchscreen - compared to some HTC devices I've tried

I have a SGH-i780 (XBHA3) and want to upgrade with the official samsung release of WM6.1.

My question is simple. Is there danish language in the new update (i780PXBHK2_Upgrader_XP) i chose nordic in the country setting on the samsung mobile i780 update page (http://www.samsungmobile.com/support/i780/index.jsp), but i am not sure which languages this contains?

When I send requests to the operator it returns well but I can't reply to them it is kind of critical to me.

I flashed my i780 with V5 96dpi first and then flash it again to V5 128dpi. The fonts, icons were too small for my eyes under 96dpi ;)

At first sight everything's working.
Will have a deep walkthrough tomorrow.

I have strange problem. I have a really old version in my i780 (BBHB4)
I've cursed this version a lot of times since it's really full of bugs.

After reading about how to upgrade i decided to do it but the strange thing happened. When pressing ENTER + FUNCTION (alt) to enter the phone detect mode, nothing happens. The phone boots normally.

I've tried in a friends phone and on his (he has a different version) its works as it should.

Do you guys know any key combination for this version that might allow me to upgrade?

You have a really old eboot part. Run an official updater and than flash the rom you want.

NO NEED to press fn+enter or alt+enter to enter emergency mode before doing the flash update.

You only have to launch mirage, connect your usb cable with your i780, switch on your phone NORMALLY. That is long press on power button ONLY and the update process will take place.

I done this with my i780. Now I am running the V5X 96dpi. Really awesome :D

You can't set italian in this rom, you need to flash an italian rom.

i'm not sure if everyone is encountering an issue with SMS options. Mine does not have these:

-Follow up
-Delete all
-Delete all read
-Copy to SIM/Copy to Phone
-MMS Options

Plus the additional options under "Select Messages" (All, All Below and Several) don't work

Copy a bin file into the folder and name it i780.bin (first time only)
Run CreateDump.bat (first time only)
DELETE the Dump folder that has been created but leave everything else intact
Modifications to the rom are done manually in OEM and SYS Folder
To cook the rom, run 1_Reloc.exe -> Do It!
Then run 2_BuildOS.exe to prepare \Temp\Dump Folder
If there's no error encountered, move the \Temp\Dump folder to the main area
Now run RecreateBin.bat and then ConvertNb0ToBin.bat
The new flashable bin is ready for use
This kitchen assumes that you are familiar with modification of rgus and xml files (please do research in XDA forum for hints)

I have a problem though, the phone was originally german so it comes in QWERTZ
I though that putting the regional settings from french to german would reset the kboard lay out .. but nop!
Any one know how to change that ?

I tried again to flash it with mirage but I get an error of PDA-Checksum failed. I think it's bricked. I tried the Hard reset but its not doing anything. Need help please. Thanks.

This is what I get when I try to update it. It sometimes finished the boot but not the PDArom. Sometimes at the eBoot I get this error. Can anyone help please?

Hi, I have Alarm bug.
I set it on 5:35 AM and if I set different time, or if I turn off all alarms, phone still rings at 5:35 AM.
Is it possible to repair this bug?:confused:
I do not want to make Hard Reset because I have installed many applications and contacts in my phone and after Hard reset I have to do it again.
Soft Reset does not help.
Please help me somebody how to fix this bug, it is probably only problem of Registries, but I do not know how to repair it.
