I have been using version 3.1s now for a few days and I can say my device is much faster. Very noticeable when accessing the Today plugins. Now it only takes about 3-5 sec to open Today items. Before it took forever. Startup is also much faster.

Even though there are still small issues it's well worth using this ROM

No issue with wifi.

When device goes to sleep, it deactivate the wifi. Once it wakes up, will try to reconnect. Isn't this the way it is suppose to be, even for WM6 E1 rom?

Say what dude? You mean opening items on the Today screen? It takes me less than a second to do that, even on the stock D1 ROM my phone came with. There must be something going on with your phone if it takes that long, assuming we are talking about the same thing.

Talking about when you go to start menu, system, today, items. Depending on how many items you have as plugins the time can vary. Mine is much quicker now. Ok I did not use a stop watch so the times might be off but you get the idea.

I have not had any problems with WiFi. I use it to connect to the internet and Windows Live. It does go off when device goes to sleep but I would expect this, I guess. I mean I'm not using the device why do I want it to be on?

Btw, the true test for WM pda performance is how fast it can load/display the whole contents of \Windows folder (with show all option in explorer). Of all the devices I have ever used before, this i780 sure does load them the fastest. Not even the venerable overclocked HTC Universal can match up the speed and ease ;)

Ah, I see, I was thinking about something else then. Still, I find 3-5 seconds (stopwatch or not) a little slow for that operation. I mean this is instantaneous for me. I guess it has to do with the number of plugins you have installed.

I've already installed RealVGA 96 to it, didn't do a thing so feel free. I don't know about the German Language pack.

Indeed, I love how fast this device is. It's faster than my Atom Exec which was very fast for a PocketPC.

that isn't true test of WM pda performance, although it does indicate the performance of the file system, which I agree supercede quite a few phones including Tytn.

The other test is doing a 3D Garmin Map ... poor graphic index will not be able to render 3D map navigation properly, but i780 wins hand down in this aspect.

wat u need to do is beside the baud, there's a autostart...thick tat and exit port splitter than do a soft reset....after which u will be able to chose the output port.
Bear in mind that aft using the splitter, u cant exit the program by pressing exit...u gotto exit by pressing the ok button, if not than u have to do a soft rest again in order to use the splitter when u need it the next time round.

If you want java just install the Opera Mini cab posted on the first page because it contains Esmertec Java which is very light and nice

First many thanks to EFN, The Solutors and many others for the job done. This is huge.

I have the i780 for two weeks now and it's all good I love this phone. But I have a problem.

I flashed it from french HHC2 rom to PUHE1 and it's ok.
Then I flashed it to DXHE1 and I lost PDA sounds (Phone is ok. ring and calls are working). I try with all the roms based on DXHE1 and I have the same problem.

I cooked the 3.1s switching the original zylonite_Wavedev2.dll directory by the HHC2 one and miracle I have now sound...but I lost the wifi. No wifi section in the manager and no S/W H/W MAC indications in settings version.

Can someone give me a way to explore please?

No!
Garmin uses the .img Format.
The Maps (and the Software) must be purchased and unlocked.
So there is no (legal) free Version available. Only an time limited Trial of the Software.

Would be nice to list out their original pda and phone rom, or alternatively whether they need to upgrade to the russian rom first. For those reporting the problems, it would be much appreciated if you can list down a little history before upgrading.

Also, before flashing to this rom, would be nice if the guys test out the new E1 rom first after upgrading it.

1 minor annoying (not)bug - Some software need to install RealVGA, change it to 128DPI, install the software, then change back to 96DPI, only the software can work properly.
EG: SPB Mobile Shell, S2P.
After installing RealVGA, the bootup screen become suck.
Need the nice WM6.1 bootup screen back...

Another issue I encountered, most of the time, PortSplitter unable to find any output port, rendering the GPS function useless. Right now still figuring how to solve this issue.

After installing RealVGA, the phone stuck at the bootup screen.
Had to hard rest.

This rom works fine, and it is stunning, but I can't get the SPB Mobile Shell 2.11 works on it at 96dpi.
I tried to uninstall it, install RealVGA, change to 128DPI, install SPB, run it, then change back to 96DPI. Nothing to do: spb runs only at 96.

You can change the startup splash screen by editing the Welcomehead96.png
You can use Photoshop to edit the size back to 320x320 or build your own just make sure you name it the same. The file is located in the Windows directory

i haven try on e1,
cause of when the time i flashed to official e1,
i found many bugs,
then the only thing i can do is find a third party rom and flash it....
the bugs ie: can't connect wifi search internet , msn
can't use my own broadband sim card to connect 3.5g
and so on .....
But i still can't use my own broadband sim card to connect 3.5g on your 3.1 rom now, don't know is that whether my setting problem or what...
but when the time i inserted the sim into tytn II , everything work fine with same setting....May i know why.....

Thats weird because E1 is the most stable rom to date. I think maybe because your phone/radio is not compatible with E1. The phone part must be on E1 level to work properly (or in this case a Russian PUHE1)

I am 90% on Maxis 3G/HSDPA all the time on my i780. Even right now I am using the Bluetooth Internet sharing with my laptop.

The only bug I encountered:
On E1, PortSplitter can detect all the output port.
On v3.1s, PortSplitter cannot detect any output port.

Other bug:
SPB Mobile Shell v2.1.1, NOT COMPATIBLE with v3.1s coz of RealVGA.
DO NOT install RealVGA on v3.1s if you use a variaties of PPC software, half of them wont work right.

Dont use TMAN, use WkTASK. the best task manager ever. on top of the screen u can see al the programs u have opened.

actually i got almost all of pda software ...(but too much,too messy ,and sometimes is out of date software..:D)
and this is one of my software collection ...
i tried ...after i install on my i80 ,
it's making my mapking disable to start it up...
in my knowledge, mapking is a sensitive software, if you accident make mistake ....
may be you will no need to start it up but have to reinstall ...lol

It should be very simple. First just make sure you selected the correct operator in settings, system and "Operator Settings". for Maxis it should be Maxis 3G and it should work automatically. Nothing else need to be done.

Bluetooth Internet sharing require BT partnership first with your pc. Then again, very simple you just need to switch run Internet Sharing and select Bluetooth PAN as the method. Then on your pc from the BT control panel you ca now enable connect to Bluetooth PAN. Simple

your default connection is GPRS or your service provider, please change your connection to work network and make it as default.... and if you launch an application which need internet connection WM6.1 will look for the connection and in the end it will connect by GPRS, i have the same issue, so i have to be careful to launch apps.

This rom is essentially WWE English from the gound up so natively it will not have foreign lang support. But usually those wanting display and input in their respective language, they will install the relevant sips. Thanks

Do a test. Save a flv file on your i780 and try to click on it directly and see if Youtube or TCPMP Player can play it automatically. Else you can assign Youtube player as the default player in the settings of YouTubePlay

If you use Samsung or Garmin GPS software, you do not have to use PortSplitter or GPSGate. But if you want to use MapKing (The best GPS software for South East Asia area), you must use PortSplitter or GPSGate, which is not workable in v3.1s. It's nothing wrong with your great ROM though, it's just Samsung stupid way of intergrating the build-in GPS.

But's really strange that PortSplitter can work in the official E1 ROM but not on v3.1s that is based on E1.
Maybe WM6.1 change some system files? Not too sure...

Waiting on your v4 that is based on the official Korean WM6.1 ROM to try and test again.

I've flashed my i780. Almost everything is great!

One little problem. I can't change the keyboard. I've downloaded hikeyboard and I can't use it. Whenever I select another keyboard, the original is reselected.

It's funny, for this rom, sometimes the sip works and sometimes it doesn't. I tried to find some pattern in it, but obviously I can't find any reasons.

It's not that I need chinese sip, but would be nice to have it working 100%.

I have a Greek i780. So I would like to write in Greek also :)
Oh, one more thing. I have an extra button on my hardware keyboard to change from English to Greek. The new rom recognize it as the message button. And the message button is unassigned and it doesn't appear on the list in order to assign to it a function. Any thoughts?

I am not sure about the off center thing in 96dpi, I've played around with RealVGA in 96dpi before and it is not offcentered.

Is the wm6.1 from your cooked rom originated from a Kaiser?

And by the way, are you planning to release V4 based on 128dpi, and let the users decide whether to use RealVGA OR you are going to release it under 96dpi (which means RealVGA is cooked into your rom)?

I don't think the problem is the ROM. I have had this before but I'm sorry to say don't know what I did to fix it.

I have just installed my garmin Mobile XT and did not have any problems, checked GPS and received a Lock withing 2 min with AGPS. I have th 3.1s ROM now for a week. I have just not loaded the Garmin but since I read your post thought I would try. I just removed and then reinserted the memory card and when it asked if I wante to install said yes.

I have this prob before. u need to clear some of your SMS or emails. You will Garmin working again.

After the hard reset I managed to load, register and get the program working. However half an hour later it was the same error message.

I managed to get hold of one of the techies at the Garmin agent who told me that the problem is caused by a blank sms that resides on the Sim card. Although I couldn't spot the offending sms, I deleted my whole inbox / outbox / sent items etc etc and lo and behold, I then had a working version of Garmin XT.

Damn frustrating to try and solve the problem but it now seems to be working ok.

The release for V3.3X will be delayed for now because I have found a problem with .net framework (possibly) or VB component. Taking into account that I was extremely busy today with my full time work it doesn't help to speed things up.

I have also decided to hand over development work for CKJ support to Vibranze so that he can build a CHS compliant V3.3X. I will share with him the entire kitchen later. The Solutor is making good progress as well with Italian release and if any of you wish to build your own WM6.1 in your own locale please PM me for details on how to get the kitchen

for those that run vista, you do not need to have an XP box or a dual boot system to use the mirage updater. it works nicely from within an VMWare.

what i did:
I use VMWare Workstation 6
Create a new image for a new Win XP installation
install win XP within, install the vmware tools.
install the samsung i600 usb driver, as suggested
install activeSync 4.5
make a directory, save the russian roms (PUHE1 files), the english DXHE1 and the new 6.1 rom within. launch mirage and follow the directions provided here. worked like a charm.

I hear ya all. The reason for delay in releasing was due to problem with streaming. V1 and V2 does not have this problem like what happened in V2.1 and above. Some dlls for the battery display mod has influenced errors to the streaming capability of the bundled Youtubeplay. But I have fixed that this morning and now looking for IE streaming solution. Other than that I am looking at Portsplitter compatibility but no promise on that because I know nuts about GPS

You do not have to change anything on the I780 it's default settings will work. Note it takes a while for the first fix and I recommend using the enhanced GPS function to speed up the first fix.

Okay, I think we are on different wavelength. Instead of pressing the contact soft key (right), what I did was to press the phone softkey (left). That brings up a list of telephone numbers, the option chosen is to view "All Calls and Contacts". Using this, I just press the required number and it will automatically search the numbers.

As to the contact soft key (right), I have installed iContact v0.76.

To summarize, for me to find names, I use iContact to find the names.
To find numbers, I use the Phone Soft Key (left) and just press the numbers to find the appropriate person.

In my country, Garmin sark hard coz do not have updated map.
We need Mapking, which have to use portsplitter or similar application because samsung do not implement the built-in GPS properly.

Firstly, thanks to Elf and all the other Chefs who had contributed to the 3.1s ROM. Upgrading via the instructions was a breeze and clear.

Here's my feedback on the ROM with some software issues after testing it for a week with a couple of hard resets but thanks to SPB Backup it was really easy to restore all data and programmes. My DPI was set to 128, 96 was just a strain on the eyes.

AEB - After installing and setting up the volume buttons to act as up and down, the system works great with no issues to the camera as with the C1 ROM. Issue starts when your i780 powers off and when you power it back on, everything starts fine except for the screen. No displays at all. No hard reset required, just reset and uninstall.

PQzII - Setting up the volume buttons as up and down was as advertised. problem when you start your camera. You will not be able to take photos or videos with the mouse button and you would lose functionality on the zoom. Mouse button becomes completely disabled.

GPS - Original settings are GPD1 with COM9:4800 and checked auto managed.
Set to COM8 for programs and hardware at COM9:4800 with auto check will enable you to run MapKing with out port-splitter or GPSGate. You need not enable Enhance GPS at all (will save you data cost if you are not on an unlimited plan).
- Use COM8 serial for GarminXT/Samsung Mobile Navigator.
- Use windows managed for GoogleMaps v2.2.0.16.
- Use COM8 for MapKing - a pain as sometimes it does not detect. You may have to start another GPS programme first like GoogleMap to activate and run the GPS and keep it in the background. My advice - go for Garmin.

SIM cards - If you swap SIM cards from an operator to another, somehow you will lose functionality of Windows LIVE no matter what settings. Hard reset and restore after inserting back in your original operator SIM.

Once again thanks and definitely looking forward to the next release. By the way EFN, is it possible for me to have the bin of the Korean ROM? Would like to change the wife i780 to Korean as a base.

Happened to me when I was on my HP6315 and also on the Dopod838PRO. Didn't manage to source out the conflicting software. I have tried both the MapKing 2007 and G10 version.

Prefer to use Garmin as the resolution for MapKing at 128 is shitty and doesn't refresh is well at times.

BTW any upcoming updates for CJK on your side?

Just changed gps port to COM1.

Now I use MK when travelling to countries where they have a map supported, like Korea and Garmin doesn't have a map there (or I can't find one ;p). Anyway when using MK I usually use the external BT GPS instead of the built in.

BTW off topic from here to your CJK ... are you using any input for Korean and what font type are you using? Possible to provide your CJK in a cab file for here instead of flashing the ROM? Just asking but no commitments required ;)

Like on the previous relase some refinements over the V3 from the great EFN:

Removed the overrideicon.dll which is responsible of the ugly look of the 3G+ icon, when the phone is used @96 DPI (the icons are downscaled).

The removed dll was also responsible of the battery monitoring, that now is provided by the standard WM6.1 dll, which looks better and has four working bars instead of the previous three.

The 3G and 3G+ icons are changed in U and H, now the tecnology sequence is correct (G->E->U->H) and not the stupid mixed one used by samsung.

The battery meter icons are coloured (green,yellow,red) to give a more rapid feedback on the battery status.

The sync icon, that affects the vista and win server 2008 users is already in place. Look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2454725&postcount=303 for the details.

The download link is inside the attacched .txt file.

P.S. Please note that this release is specially meant for the @96DPI users. Installing REALVGA will ovverride some (but not all) of the visual improvements.

On E1 ROM and phone, Mapking work perfectly with PortSplitter.
On v3.1s, PortSplitter unable to detect output port.
Manually set MapKing to COM8 doesn't help at all.
For those who having issue with corrupt MapKing files, please make sure you are installing the legal original MapKing 2007, as pirated version do corrupt as they are cracked using incompatible older Mapking component.
If you think Garmin's map are better than MapKing's map, obviously you don't travel much if at all.

Hey sorry to hear that. Sounds very serious. Please try this. Remove the battery for 10 seconds and then boot up using the method described in the flashing guide.

However when i am on the IE browser, the page just for load and the status is only showing "Loading". And because of this also, my MMS is not working. Haha it's V3.3X actually and X denotes major departure from 3.1s in many ways.

In case if you been wondering what happened to the unreleased V3.2, well suffice to say that V3.2 is a disaster that can't even boot up properly due to "alien" SCH-M480 XIP and OEMDRIVERS that I forced upon it. Thus V3.3X have to hybrid between SCH-M480 and DXHE1 to make a complete package. Honestly I don't see much difference between WM6.0 DXHE1 and WM6.1 SCH M480 taking into account that DXHE1 itself is quite new

I am sure this is settings problem because I am using Maxis EDGE and GPRS now via Opera Mini 4.1 on my i780. Unfortunately I dont have a Digi sim to try, perhaps other digi user can share?

I remembered! You are right, it won't work because of the fonts used by EFN is not chinese support font. Try to use the cabs he provided to switch back to tahoma and see if you can view or not.

A few hours ago I pushed mine to the max leaving about 0.4mb left on the free space and Opera Mini and SMS almost died on me LOL! but it stayed alive still on the OS level. Then I received some long SMS my unit actually shut down! have to poke the stylus on the reset port and back to normal. I freed some 10MB afterwards and been running sweet since then with my Garmin XT giving me directions to Gurney Drive Penang :)

This mau be caused by the new reg fix for the sound volume. Let me find which key u can delete and see how it works. My Jabra BT headset also have some issues but its the other way round. I can hear the other party but they have problem hearing me. Some testing for this but I think a simple reg cab fix should do the trick

I had your 3.0 and was ok, when I try upgrade 3.3x after 56% on Mirage I saw Failed so I tried once again with success but just now GSM module is still off (device is working but still is in fligth mode - and I cannot swich it).

I have a good feeling about GPS Proxy because unlike Port Splitter, GPS Proxy can see the Out Port where Port Splitter cant. You can experiment it easily. If you remember which port for incoming and outgoing for Port Splitter in WM6, you must assign the same in GPS Proxy. But of course the interface looked different. Hope can help u more but I use Garmin Mobile XT which dont use GPS Proxy at all

How to fix it

U need to overwrite Phone and Pda with Russian PUHE1 because the error has messed up your i780. Or you can also switch back to your original rom if you have them. Make sure to remove the battery before flashing because I did encounter some flashing problem if I dont remove them. My i780 has been like flashed 1000 times since V1 during development stage, it's amazing that poor thing is still alive.

Once you have confirmed th russian phone and pda can run properly with gsm on, then u can flash V3.3X

First the good news, SPB MS 2.1 can be installed and run. When you installed SPB MS 2.1, all the dat files are starting with qa (the program thinks that it is qvga device). But what is needed are files starting with ma_xxx. The only qa file is the qa_layouts.dat which consists of all the xml files.

I believe regardless of which resolution you are in, the program is installing all the qa files instead of the ma files.

There is a thread over at the development and hacking. Search for i780 + spb mobile shell + realvga.

Hello. Everything seems to work perfectly fine, thou I cannot figure out how to change the layout of keyboard to swedish. As soon as I try to change the registry as suggested in other threads the entire keyboard seems to stop working. Have any one else successfully changed keyboard layout?

I was using 96dpi... but now I went back to 3.1 made all the changes I wanted exported the reg file, them went back to 3.3x imported the reg file, the setting were not as I saved them but now i'm able to make changes.

This is a known problem with these ROMs. There are several post already in this thread on this issue. You will have to change to 128 dpi install and then back to 96dpi and it will work.
