Well the ROM seems nice, but not having PortSplitter makes it almost useless...Can't use TomTom7, tried with GPSProxy, can get a fix in it, but don't know what settings to input inside Tomtom...tried every port, no go...Any hints?

Has it fixed the Bluetooth and MS Voice Command problem? As in you can use the BT Headset's button to activate Voice Command?

Running faster? Slower? More Free RAM? Impressions and experiences please! I don't feel like reflashing right now unless we can reap the benefits. Actually, the only important thing I want is for the BT Voice Command thing to work.

Oh Yeah...My phone now can write and read chinese and japanese text...i combine use cjk6.1 (the software post at this threat before)and full writing (my software)to get this "effect" hahaha...
but my chinese entry is not by typing is "drawing" and it will come out a lot of similar text to let you choose what text you want to write...

But it's very simple. Use the PHM Regedit and delete the following keys:

Sorry for my mistake, I am using Opera 9.5 Build 1770 not the 9.51b .
The Opera 9.5 is work functional on 3.3X ROM with SMA & Email Notification.

First the good news, SPB MS 2.1 can be installed and run. When you installed SPB MS 2.1, all the dat files are starting with qa (the program thinks that it is qvga device). But what is needed are files starting with ma_xxx. The only qa file is the qa_layouts.dat which consists of all the xml files.

I believe regardless of which resolution you are in, the program is installing all the qa files instead of the ma files.

There is a thread over at the development and hacking. Search for i780 + spb mobile shell + realvga.

It didn't work on WM6.1 3.3X but this method work on HE1.

I would like to share my experience. I install V3.3 rom, after that you need to change to Tahoma font (can find in i780 Tweaks file). And then install CJK6.1, after that in Region setting choose HK. Now you can install SIP program. I use PenPower in CE-Star RIP. http://blog.g4team.com/?p=23. Now u can read and write chinese. Hope can help u

CE-Star R3c original licensed is workable perfectly fine in 96DPI too.


Little suggestion, EFN you may also want to look in to the freeware QuickMenu to incorparated into your next ROM.
It's a small, less resource and very very usefull start menu replacement.

Pushmail on my i780 for Exchange and Hotmail works perfectly over 3G and HSDPA.

Try changing your regional settings to correspond to your locale just like your original rom previously and see how it goes. And check also your Network Operator settings. It may be useful to recreate the mail settings if nothing works.

No problem for push email, fast and stable. Only is the battery life running very fast. Only can use 1 day

Flashed my i780 with the new v3.3. rom. Worked a treat, it's excellent. :)

I have my phone synced with an Exchange Server. Emails are a little slower coming through to the phone, but there's only a delay of 30 seconds to a minute so it's no big issue for me at all.

It didn't work on WM6.1 3.3X but this method work on HE1.

To all who uses SPB MS 2.1, it works 98%!!.

What you need to do to get it to work:

Disable all plugins from the today screen.

Install MS SPB 2.1 in your newly upgraded device.

Download the attachment and unzip into a suitable folder in your PC.

Copy whatever is in that folder into your SPB folder. There will be 2 or 3 files that will prompt you to overwrite, just press overwrite all.

Soft reset.

Press the right soft key and voila it appears.

Why is it that I am saying 98%? There are some icons that are offset to the bottom right of the icon space. See below for screenshots:

Therefore, this confirms that SPB MS 2.1 do work with the newly cooked rom. It is just that since the native is 96dpi it is recognised as a qvga screen, and hence files installed are based on the qvga screen. We need to do the additional steps. For those who want to save space, you can also delete all the *.dat files and insert the attachment.

Hahaha, will be interesting what's your next "torture" plan for your i780"

A few hours ago I pushed mine to the max leaving about 0.4mb left on the free space and Opera Mini and SMS almost died on me LOL! but it stayed alive still on the OS level. Then I received some long SMS my unit actually shut down! have to poke the stylus on the reset port and back to normal. I freed some 10MB afterwards and been running sweet since then with my Garmin XT giving me directions to Gurney Drive Penang :)

Ooo...I felt a sweat thing on this fresh rom...After i flashed this rom into v3.3...i felt that my system seem look like every thing goes heavy...lag away...not like the rom v3.1...i tried to open 7 porgram in once on v3.1 but nothing happen (etc.lag)but at 3.3 i open only 1 program like garmin...it's already lag..other than this now my i780 seem to ve hungry monster now ... in v3.1 i can last my batteryu up to two days although i on wi-fi always...but now 3.3 only last up to one day (a normal pda standby time...)in standby mode... these is the negative thing ...the positive thing is this rom is useful to me...
the samsung java always the best java supportor to me...i got almost 200 of the java games of 240x320 to play on my i780 ...almost all of java games is compatible with samsung java...juz nice...hahaha...
and inside also got many useful utility ...haha...
juz happy to use this rom ...

I'd like to know which buttons exactly are the function buttons to press with the enter button on the keyboard and what should happen afterwards if i'm pressing them correctly?
Are they the buttons directly left and right to the space button? Is it really necessary to push 3 buttons on the keypad and the power button simultaneously?

From a developer perspective yes indeed V3.3x is heavier in features compared to the previous versions. But one thing that I am sure of is that all of the releases has been tuned similarly.

From user perspective, I would say the V3.3x is as snappy and as nimble of my previous releases despite having more features. I am quite happy with the performance even after loading her up to the max.

If you encounter performance problem, please tell us what font are u using and what kind of software u have installed.

One thing tht I would like to share is that. From my experience on any device not just limited to i780, sometimes a bad flash will resulted in sub par performance and usually u can tell something is wrong not long after that. All that need to be done is reflash qnd usually it will work fine.

btw, I have tested the Wifi on the hotel that I am staying now in Penang and it worked flawlessly even with Windows Live Messenger. I will post a screenshot later.

This is a known problem with these ROMs. There are several post already in this thread on this issue. You will have to change to 128 dpi install and then back to 96dpi and it will work.

Ehh...the .7a is a type of compressor format...
something like .rar or .zip...
you have to extract it...
after you extract it...you will get the .bin file...
bin is pda system loader file format ...
definitely different with .7a...
u can search google for a free .7a extractor...

My bluetooth headset is working now :D

One more problem, most of the time my phone will not wake up when power botton is press after midnight. When press the power button it only show the top bar (showing the start, battery and signal only) and it jus stay there.

Anyone having the same problem?

Use Singapore very stable. But Trad. Chinese support not good. And I installed Droid font but no handwriting support! too bad! DO you have any font suggest which is better view on 96dpi and support handwriting SIP? I think Droid has good look and feel on 96 dpi. thanks.

I only use Tahoma for the font and use PenPower in CE-Star RIP for handwriting. I also try Droid font but got problem on handwriting.

On the keypad, press the Enter button on the right side and another one the number switch button the one with white on top and black bottom at the same time. When u press this two buttons while switching on, you will see emergency mode on the samsung startup screen and this is when your i780 is ready to flash

On the keypad, press the Enter button on the right side and another one the number switch button the one with white on top and black bottom at the same time. When u press this two buttons while switching on, you will see emergency mode on the samsung startup screen and this is when your i780 is ready to flash

My apologies if my previous post is not clear. For the attachment in my previous post, it is ONLY meant for devices set at 96 dpi . The attachment WILL NOT WORK at 128dpi. For those who wants to run at 128dpi, I am sorry to say that I did not skin the Diamond theme at 128dpi. However, over at the Development and Hacking, look for a thread called square theme and a skinner named jolpiej. He's from Indonesia and had done quite a numbe of skins for the Treo device, which happened to be 240x240. These skins will work for the i780.

Also, please note that SPB MS 2.0 does not support Square Screen. You need to upgrade to MS2.1

Let me give you one a step by step instructions:

If your RealVGA is set to 128dpi, please set it to 96dpi and soft reset, before installing SPB MS 2.1
From the Settings>Today>Items, please de-select all today plugins first.
Place your SPB Mobile Shell cab file in your PPC. I stored it in my Storage Card.
Use Total Commander and search for this cab.
Highlight the SPB MS 2.1 cab file and press ok to install.
You will have the following screen: Note that SPB Menu is now located at the right soft key and your contacts is switch from right to left soft key

Now press SPB Menu soft key, it should NOT work at this point.

Thanks. As to the offset icons, you can decompress the qa_layouts.dat using Winzip. The password is b0fm18zq. There is list of the xml files ready to be edited. :)

After editing, make sure you compress it with the password as well.

P/S: I'm using Throttlelauncher now, not SPB Mobile Shell. But if I have the time, will try to edit the xml files.

I am now with pda XIHC1 and phone PUHE1 and everything work fine except I cannot install any dialer skin.I already try many different key but none work .Registry setting looks allright and file are in the Windows directory but no way.I already try WM 6.1 both in english and italian and after a hd telephone works fine except I am still with the original dial pad.
Anybody have an idea what to do?

However I have problem with the Windows Live. The installed version says that my "certificate has expired" and cannot launch. The new WL version avilable om MS site cannot instal, it says that previous version hast to be uninstalled first. I am unable to uninstall it. Can you help?

Well looks like I have to give this a shot as still no official update..

Has anyone heard anything from Samsung on the official update? I contacted them last week and got told "there are no plans for a wm6.1 update on that device at this time". But who knows how much/little the support person knows...

Also is the setting for "USB Connection Mode" still present in this ROM, as I use that feature a lot to copy large files onto the microSD card..

Just wanna feedback that I am using Agis NavFone bundled together with my i780.

So far it is working fine for me. No problem in getting GPS position. I have my A-GPS switched on, by the way.

Many complained that NavFone is no good, but I find it to be good, and able to get to my destination. However, I understand that Agis only provide Singapore and Malaysia maps.

I have not tried Mapking or Garmin.

Another reason could be because the native Override.dll is disabled in V3 and above. If Override Dll is enabled, the battery and network indicator will revert to the ugly original Samsung indicators

I have the same issue as you, the performance of this ROM is great ~~ Software respond time and loading time is opera is very smooth and fast.

But i found this build of ROM consumption more power as HE1 ROM.

Phone unplug from power supply at 7:00am and battery running out at 14:00pm (10% remain), now i must the 2 battery in every day.

Hi guys,

Just to let you know that I had finally got the setting right I think. I follow the configuration setting that was mention some posts back(many) and now Gramin XT will detect the GPS device. The problem now seem to be that the device can not lock on to the satallite signal....even thought there some time 7 signals that it could pick out. The device would just constantly search and drop signal like no to tommorrow.

I got this information off the Gramin XT "GPS info" page.

when i using rom v3.1 ,
i can last battery up to two day (52 hours)
with turn on wifi never off...
play gps always....
and browsing net...
but this rom can also last up to a day ...
that mean this rom the battery will be shorter...
but you must know ...
now last up to one day that just normal for pda...
but for sure this will also cause by user ?
or your setting ?
example is your brightness setting ?

Then it's a network problem. Can u even browse to the internet from your i780? Install Opera Mini or Opera Mobile and test it out. If you cant find the Exchange server the problem may lies in network.

EDIT:

Windows Mobile 6.1 has that extra feature of Autodetecting Exchange Server during setup. Try to uncheck the Autodetect and use manual Exchange server name just like in Windows Mobile 6.0.

After I deleted this when I tried again, it said exchange needed to enforce some security settings on my device.. I allowed this and now it works fine. I guess you need to setup exchange FIRST even if the other PC isn't syncing contacts/tasks/email etc..

By the way in general this ROM is working great, definately SEEMS more responsive than the original ROM...

Garmin, iGo8 etc works fine with XTRA GPS Assistance in i780. MapKing and the rest require GPS Intermediate software to run.

For warranty reasons you must flash it back to DXHE1 before sending your unit to Samsung. Officially they dont support WM6.1 now.

Use dotfred backup to backup your current phone and you can easily restore them later using the bundled Dotfred backup in the rom

You dont need to backup your current rom because all you need to do is to keep one copy of DXHE1 for roll back

Hang on, I thought you need to update to the russian PUHE1 rom (phone) and the latest DXHE1 rom (PDA) first before you can flash to your rom? I do not know if the D1 phone rom is available or not?

I am not sure if you can roll back the DXHD1 rom, since your phone rom had already been updated to the russian one PUHE1.

Meaning: PUHE1 (Phone) + DXHD1 (PDA) = will it work?

Suggest you try to find both phone and PDA rom. Again, you have to be very careful.

in terms of battery issue, since upgraded to V3.3X my battery has improved tremendously compared to the original rom.
tested MK2007 for 15mins + Googlemap = battery left 70%, consider acceptable and above average.
as normally my usage GPS are driving and together with car charger...so not much issue on battery issue.

Seems to hv problems after i install the Agis. after got a log on GPS using Agis, i than close it and start port splitter...to my surprise, port splitter no longer work! the output port dosent show any com port at all.

What i did is remove Agis, reset the phone and port splitter is working again!
so wat i did next is install back Agis, aft the installation, start port splitter, than mapking...everything went well and mapking manage to log to GPS. I than exit mapking BUT w/o existing port splitter than i start Agis....sweet...everythings went well again...i soft reset the phone for a couple of time using the same method and it works.

Any one else can try? if u start Agis 1st w/o using port splitter than try using it lata on mapking...would it work? it doesnt work on me doh......:confused:

but this rom can also last up to a day ...
that mean this rom the battery will be shorter...
but you must know ...

then you will no need third party software to split the port lo...:D
other than this there is nothing to setting in garmin...

I think, this is a rom bug, what denies connection port for msn service.

Any suggestion's to solve this problem?

For those who faces problem with Spb mobile shell, the version that works is 2.1 Build 3363. Version 2.1.1 Build 3500 and 3507 have problems in mapping icons and hence it does not work with some of the skins. Over at SpbClub, there is a new version 2.1.2 Beta which is suppose to resolve the issues. I personally have not tested it yet. For those who wants spb, they can try and feedback your results.

Well actually i780_EF_V3.3XG_WM6.1_TEST was meant to be a Beta ROM, BUT apparently it passed the first test LOL! So there's no need for me to change it because V3.3XG is pretty much complete already (and it stays closer to Samsung native dlls compared to V3.3X which uses a lot of hybrid components). BOTH are quite good, just that 3.3XG is more GPS friendly (older GPS programs)

3.3X report to run very smoothly. only thing is that PenPower chinese recognition don't pop-up... it cannot load for some reason. So chinese is half supported, Pinyin works, charaters display ok. But Handwriting don't work.

I have upgraded from V3.3X and the G version seems to lock up in the middle of installing programs...

it happened to me while installing EGRESS ... and stuck @ launching "HELP" at the end of installation..

and while in the middle of installing Pocket Informant it hanged

Both cases, when i restarted and re-did the install, it when smooth again.

Seems that the G version is not as stable as previous built.

The Windows Live 10.6.33.0600 (Fixed) (duttythroy) can be installed but does not work. Official Microsoft WindowsLive_NoIM_0409 cannot be installed. It says "it seems that you have previous version, blah blah, uninstall it first"

Hi Francisco, I have noticed strange thing. Loaded DXHD1 rom, and Windows Live says that my certificate is over ! I know that it used to work but now it does't. Maybe after flashin EBOOT+PDA+PHONE during firs WM6.1 install something has changed and WL refuses to work.

So the problem may be in EBOOT i guess, cos all other roms are PDA only. Please mention that we have all loaded russian EBOOT+PDA+PHONE.

Loaded DXHD1 rom, and Windows Live says that my certificate is over ! I know that it used to work , becaouse the day before yesterday , before I have flashed Russian EBOOT+PDA+PHONE (we all did) it worked !

So possibly Russian EBOOT is reckognized by windows live as something wrong.

Now, with 3.3X, USB charging isn't working anymore - maybe also with earlier V3 versions (not sure about this, didn't pay attention). Does anybody see a similar behaviour?

USB Charging still works on mine. And because of this it is very difficult for me to torubleshoot unless my i780 is having the same problem.

Fot those using 3.3XG, any of you have any success installing Opera Mini 4.1? I can install but it would not run so I suspect it has something to do with the changes after 3.3X.


PS: I will also release a separate Theme cab/tsk from V3.1. Just that I dont have time to extract it out yet.

EDIT: I think mine is actually charging of the USB with this ROM.. Certainly was not with the original ROM it shipped with..

BTW I don't think my battery does last for less time with this ROM at all, it just displays funny.. It does drop faster once it starts to fall off 100%, but it sits on 100% for a very long time..

Yes. But you will need to use RealVGA to activate it at 128dpi (which is also bundled with this rom). There is also a scroll bar program made for 128dpi as well as 96dpi.

My apologies for crashing into this thread.

I have done some extensive tests on the newly cooked EFN rom 3.3X and MS 2.1.2 Beta.

The results:

First I use RealVGA and set it to 128dpi and soft reset.
I installed the MS 2.1.2 under this resolution. After installation, it works.
Next I use RealVGA and set it to 96dpi and soft reset.
Tried to run MS2.1.2, it does not work at all.
I went into the subfolder of SPB Mobile Shell. Clicking each individual icon only brought up a black screen. The only icon that works is SPB Contact.
Using upward gesture does end the SPB program though.

Goes back to RealVGA and set it to 128dpi again and soft reset.
Edited the files. Change all settings to fit it in a 320x320 screen. Result is that the program runs. Of course some of the icons are pushed out of the screen since it is effective 320x320 at 128dpi.

Use RealVGA again and set it to 96dpi again, hoping it will work. However, it does not.

Conclusion: SPB MS 2.1.1 onwards DOES NOT WORK with RealVGA at 96dpi. At 128dpi, it will work fine. Therefore, for those who wants to run SPB Mobile Shell, please do not upgrade to the later versions. The last stable version is MS2.1 Build 3363 which runs fine between 96dpi and 128dpi. As more and more phones are catered for this program, I do not see SPB going to support it at 96dpi for i780, at least not in the near future.

This brings an end to the issues relating to SPB. Hope this information provide a better explanation to you people.

That is strange, I actually get better battery life with 3.3x than with E1. I have not tried 3.3xg so can't report on this.

Note I don't use 3G so I don't know if that is any difference or not. 3.3x is much faster than E1 IMHO.

Maybe you should try 3.3xg rom, a few reported better battery life, and I don't think speed loses out to 3.3x.

Alternatively, I find 3.1s has better battery performance.

today I'll get my i780 :) I used before some HTC, but this one is definitely better then actual HTC devices.

It's a german one. And the keyboard layout should be german, too. As I read in this thread, it's possible to change that via reg keys. But some have problems with that. On my Tytn I have isntalled "Schaps Advanced Configuration", but this is a tool for HTC devices. Those tools should not be installed on the i780? Or may I use this to change my keyboard layout?

Same with HTC Connection Setup. That should be usable?

Or are those tools really device specific?

For me, the CABs install but don't work. I know that these tools are from and for HTC, but I can't imagine that they are soooo manufacturer specific...
I love the 96dpi, but I'd prefer a larger start menu and task bar.
Or is there any alternative way to enlarge the font size for the start menu?

If this new ROM's GPS Proxy is working, then PortSplitter or GPSGate is not needed anymore.

I found out that GPS Proxy is way more user friendly and convenience that PortSplitter and GPS Gate, as it can automatically launch MapKing once you start the proxy.

Will flash to the new ROM and post results.

thanks for the feedback. u should consider reflashing 3.3XX because the problem may be due to bad flashing. 3.3XX is like a rocket compared to earlier versions

I have some problems with setting up my internet connection. normally I can choose the "Network Connection" in my E-Mail Settings, which to use. There are three: My Internet, Work and The Internet. This drop down list should be configured at settings/connections/connections. There are two Connections set: My ISP and My Work Network. UNder My ISP I have configured my settings for E-Plus Internet, which works. Other tools like IM+, Skype, Internet Explorer can connect to the Internet. But in my E-Mail Account I can't choose "My ISP", which should be choosable...

Second is, there is a tool "Operator Settings". When I start this, the internet connections should be configured automatically. It doesn't work for me. That's because I had to edit them manually...

Probably someone has an idea...

Previously we had problems with S2P v0.40 and the previous rom. I'm not sure which is which, but I am pleased to announce that A_C had released S2P v0.50 and it works with 3.3XX rom. There is no need to go to the extra step of going into 128dpi mode to get the right position for pressing of the icons.

It works immediately after installation of S2P v0.50.

Thought I'll let people know who wants to use S2P. :)

I currently try to get GPS working... no chance. I try to get a GPS Signal with googlemaps, but after a while searching for a device, it throws an error message, that no gps was found...

how to configure this? there are only two settings regarding the GPS, "External GPS" and "Enhanced GPS", is that right? Isn't there any program to turn it on and off? how is it about the button in the lower right corner with the satelite icon? When I hit this, only the key mapper tool opens...

first of all MANY thanks for this great ROM!

Now to my little problem: Using some v2 Version of this ROM (v2.1?), my (German) i780 charged for the first time when connected to the PC via USB. Before (BHHA5), charging had been indicated (e.g. in the battery applet), but when removing the USB jack, the battery charging level felt back to its original state. This definitely had changed under v2.1.
Now, with 3.3X, USB charging isn't working anymore - maybe also with earlier V3 versions (not sure about this, didn't pay attention). Does anybody see a similar behaviour?
@EFN: Could you think about any reason for this?

The function key is the one with the white and red/black button and the enter key is the enter key.

Counting the rows from your keyboard, it is the 3rd row and the buttons are the extreme left and right.

Also, when you flash make sure you press detect on your notebook before you press the enter, function and the power key at the same time.

Take note if have the E1 rom (phone and pda) originally, then there is no need to flash the russian rom, which is the phone rom. Make sure you also select the correct button in your Mirage program.

use PHM RegEdit to change all "Nm" values from "Verdana" to "Tahoma" You should be able to see characters instead of boxes.

you can fix it yourself if you want., download schaps advanced config tool ( erase the power options in the .xml) it changes the htc to windows media player.. and OR you can download htc home customiser > it lets you download the AudioManager

I'm experiencing a strange behaviour using the freshly installed 3.33XX and the connection with Vista Mobile Center (aka ActiveSync on Vista).

First of all, let me explain that I never had a problem such it with previous versions of your rom, nor with several different devices (HTC Touch, Imate PS5, Sp3, etc.).

The description of the problem is very easy: creating a partnership with 3.33XX and Vista works at the very first time. After you insert the Exchange sync infos, the phone disconnects and you will not get it be discovered by Vista again, until you remove the partnership.

It's strange, 'cause it works fine with a XP Sp2.

Any idea?

No. Russian rom is for first time only. Next rom updates based on HE1 u can flash directly

Could you also include an option to use the Original Finger Mouse drivers? Im using the finger mouse as scroll buttons and im having a hard time getting adjusted to it. Sometimes it moves too fast, sometimes its too slow.

This is a known issue with 3.3XX. That's why 3.3XX will be withdrawn and the most stable one which is V3.3X6G will be reintroduced soon.

By all means I would love to refrain from releasing too many versions. But we all know that the journey to stability is never straight. 3.3XG Reloaded will be the most acceptable yet. I am focusing on getting that elusive all rounder performance factor and just like juggling it's anything but easy.

3.3XX was a blistering performer at the expense of stability. The components used in 3.3XX is a potpourri that gets too intoxicating.

For the record there is no 3.3X6G (typo error).

I personally never liked the idea of restoring programs because I will never know which system dlls or files that may get overwritten. When I use backup, I will always backup only data and not the program itself.

When I receive sms, the phone always opens it as the conversation, not like usual normal message. I couldnt find anything in settings to put it back to normal mode.
