Just a quick question. What is the difference between 96dpi and 128dpi on the i780?

one version has a resolution of 320 x 320 by 96 dpi and the other 320 x 320 by 128 dpi..

with 96 dpi .. fonts/images are smaller compared to 128 dpi.. soo.. you with 96 dpi, you have smaller fonts, smaller pictures, but more viewing space...

e.g. with 96 dpi you have got rows of four in the start menu / programs.. instead of three with 128 dpi.

I hope i am correct.. dont know exact.. somebody can add ?

Yes you can flash to this one if you flashed the Russian before.

In fact, I haven't even flashed the Russian phone ROM and I flashed to EFN's ROMs, I have not experienced any problems whatsoever. i.e. The Russian ROM is recommended, but not required. To avoid problems though I suggest following EFN's instructions to the letter. It worked for me but I can't guarantee it for anyone.

Now, the question. Although this ROM is PERFECT, I've noticed a behaviour that was absent in the original (italian) ROM: using any of the russian-derived ROMs the connection between the i780 and my HTC S100 Bluetooth headset is dropped after ten seconds of "silence". A typical case is using a GPS navigation software relying only on the voice hints (i.e. cuising a motorcycle): because of the long silences between the hints, the BT A2DP connection goes to sleep and its resume is not fast enough to hear the whole next hint. Only the last words are heared.

Is there some settings I can tweak to avoid this? I've already tested the settings under HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\sys without any luck.
In the meantime, I've "solved" keeping TCPMP running some music in the background at very low volume, thus preventing the BT audio connection to timeout.

I must say that it is almost perfect! Phone is smoothly working and fast, though I still didn't test Bluetooth and GPS! I will do that and give you my feedback!
The reason I say "almost perfect" is only due to a display issue. Some windows are a bit small and can't see the last bits of it. These three screenshots can explain.

These are the steps that I have done to flash my Samsung. I did not invent anything, I just followed the steps indicated by EFN on this board. All the links are found in the signature of EFN, the guru who is developing/tweaking this marvelous ROM! I did the following steps:


Download and read carefully the PDF guide by EFN here http://www.mediafire.com/?lll4yhzcici
Download the Russian "i780_PUHE1_Rev12.img" image from: http://www.mediafire.com/?jdwwmjtt960
Download the English PDA "i780dxhe1.bin" from http://www.mediafire.com/?m0s6wmygxee
Download the lates PDA image you want to (example, the Samsung SGH-i780 EF V3.4_96S WM6.1 (Standard))
Flash your Samsung using the Russian image with the MIRAGE v1.8 software. The Russian image has an IMG extension, and it contains BOOT, PDA, and PHONE settings to be flashed into the phone's ROM. So make sure you click EBOOT+PDA+PHONE
Flash your Samsung using the English image, the i780DXHE1.bin using the PDA button
Flash you Samsung with the latest Windows Mobile of your choice downloadable from the links you see in the signature of EFM and other staff of the board or links indicated by the staff.

I personally dont use A2DP because I dont have any Stereo Headset. Thanks for your feedback. I will look into this once I get myself a Stereo BT

Try to reduce the system font size via registry or use any tool that allow font changing like SkTools. I think this may be due to 128DPI MUIs was originally meant to be run in Korean font and I have changed it to Tahoma for WWE

hi EFN. Thanks for your great works.. I am currently using your 3.3XG for almost a week now and i am quite impressed with the battery consumption. I am on my 2nd day now and still running at 70% battery. I use bluetooth headset during office hours. average 30mins to 2hours calls per day... Previously, I used your V3.2 which only gave me 1.5day per charge and a bit of problematic bluetooth... audio kept on cutting off...

Today and after I flashed my Samsung with the EFV3.4.128s (Standard), my TOM TOM 7 is working WITHOUT the Port Splitter trick!

Go to START -> SETTINGS -> SYSTEM -> EXTERNAL GPS -> Select COM8 from the drop down list. I also changed the baud rate to 115200 for testing.

Start Tomtom without port splitter, on the GPS config, select OTHER NMEA GPS RECEIVER, change the baud rate to the max, select COM8 and your work is done!

I install Garmin XT, put the program to com port 1, and hardware to com port 9 and baud rate in 4800. Locking the satellite takes 10-15 minutes which is sucks. And calculating the route takes around 3 minutes (even sucks), and recalculating the route takes around 1.5 minutes (sucks). Anybody can help me with this ? Is it a bug ? Should I upgrade the ROM to the latest one ? Does it helps ? Thx

The problem is that there aren't any other programs.

Coz we don't need that much space for storage
since we got Storage Card inserted.
But I'm sure we need more on space on program
for i780 to run smoothly and faster.

That cab only works for V3.3 series and it only replace the clock interface. U need to install full HTC Home program first and the cab for that can be found easily around XDA Dev. Hope this helps

-I thought the I780 had 128mb of memory, why is it only shown 112 megs?
-Installing the Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800 (Fixed) says I dont have network connectivity.. > I can only find My WAP Networks in connection manager.. Vodafone Internet isnt mentioned..live refers to that certain connection group, any suggestions ppl ?

I'm personally happy with the EFV3.4.128s (Standard) release. The phone screen is so small to accomodate the 96s, thus I went back to the highly efficient EFV3.4.128s (Standard). I'm quite happy with it! If ever I need a program, I'll just install it, and with SBP Backup, I can backup and restore my phone in few minutes. Thanks :)

no , that's not a bug , haha...
u have to used it if u are using internal gps chipset
it will be suck like this , that's can only say that this is very normal to internal gps chipset user ,
onlyway to improve this is buy a bluetooth gps ,
u can log the gps within 30 second ...haha :)

I installed the 3.4U (but the same is on the 3.4 96dpi).
When I open an excel attached file I can move the cursor on the sheet but as soon as it goes out of the screen I can't see it anymore. The cells don't move themeselves. I mean that I can't read all the cells but just the few cells I can see as soon as I open the file.
It's the same for you?

i have installed tomtom7 and during trip from my job to my home......it has fixed perfectly without use other programs.
wonderful......i was never able to use tomtom7 with other cooked rom.

i'm also using Outlook for email , Messenger , Explorer , OperaMini and everything is ok with wireless network and 3G network too.

I have already spent the last 4 hours troubleshooting it. I have reset the ppc and reboot the computer more than 20 times. I have reinstalled 3.3XG twice in the process with sync issues.

i have installed tomtom7 and during trip from my job to my home......it has fixed perfectly without use other programs.
wonderful......i was never able to use tomtom7 with other cooked rom.

i'm also using Outlook for email , Messenger , Explorer , OperaMini and everything is ok with wireless network and 3G network too.

On GPS:
Before I flashed: Problems, no signal, no fixes etc.

Then I flashed complete Russian ROM, then UK PDA part, then upgraded to WM6.1 (PDA part) and then tested GPS (with TT 7). No luck.
I then flashed the Italian Phone ROM and tried again. No luck.
Then I did a hard reset, installed TT 7 again and BINGO!!!!!

It has been a bit of a struggle and I have not tested the full functionality of the Radio and PDA rom, but at least GPS now works as a charm.

I install Garmin XT, put the program to com port 1, and hardware to com port 9 and baud rate in 4800. Locking the satellite takes 10-15 minutes which is sucks. And calculating the route takes around 3 minutes (even sucks), and recalculating the route takes around 1.5 minutes (sucks). Anybody can help me with this ? Is it a bug ?

It's simply not possible. The rom file itself is the carrier of the OS.

Well.. I am using the PUHE1 phone rom and the ul. 3.4 versions and after importing this reg. with Resco Registry Editor it worked like a charm.
A reboot is required, and after that I installed the Windows Live 10.6.0034.0800 (Fixed)

This confirms my suspicion that some i780 are built differently for different market segment. This means despite having the same hardware, some variation in the device itself makes them behave differently. For example, my i780 cannot use JPHE2 because it will mess up the keyboard and mouse. Similarly some i780 may not work properly with DXHE1 rom. (my rom is essentially a modified DXHE1)

You just struck gold with that last sentence ;).
The whole idea of XTRA (assisted gps data) is so the GPS gets a faster sattelite connection. It helps your GPS in the right direction by telling your GPSchip wich broadcasting-cell you are using. This way your GPS knows in which area it has to look so the GPS gets a fix much faster if you enable this setting. It uses GPRS/3G data, so it is recommended to use this in combination with a data-bundle.

Hi EFN I need some help with Pocket Digital clock issue

The later version of PDC 1.1.8.1 can have customizeable fonts. However no matter what I do I can only get the Tahoma system font or the default one shown in your screen shots. It seems after talking with Ionized the author of PDC that the font is hardwired into the systerm and cannot be changed.

Any ideas on a fix for this?

I think you can either flash your i780 with the Russian full image PUHE1 and then flash the PDA part with DXHE1 - both images are official Samsung roms and should be acceptable by Samsung service centres

Not really. The GPS components are from the official DXHE1.

On my i780, I use GPS External Settings set to COM1 (the rest of the settings remained the same) and my Garmin Mobile XT can lock very fast. But of course for the first fix it will take time

It should not take more than 1-2 minutes, 5 minutes for sure. You likely have a problem if it is longer than this.

when i disconnect form the internet (t-mobile germany) und type then on query -> ITS works 1x .. on the second type on query -> server not responding, then disconect the internet - its works once again ?! :(

and skype and msn dont work on my i780..

i try the vitus.cab now and i report then :)

To enable video call,
go to i780 Tweaks,
tap on RealVGA
unmark disable phone skin
tap ok and reset.
To receive file via bluetooth,
go to setting,
connection, beam and
mark on receive all
incoming beam.

You don't have to switch
on after flashing Russian ROM. Just continue flashing with English ROM
and the EFN ROM then only you swith on.
Anyway try to take out your battery, put it back then try to switch on your phone again.

I tried to take the battery out and in and switch it on but same thing. It said repeat steps 3-10. step 3 is :Switch off your phone and remove the battery, then insert the battery.

There is no other way to reset the phone????

Thanks for your input, managed to sort out the bluetooth issue. Now it can receive files. But the video call is still a no go. Dunno why, I've even tried flashing back to 3.1 and that didn't work either, then flashed 3.3 final and again back to 3.4U. All didn't work.

As for the icon, got a reply from predatorkill informing me it's the GPS icon. :)

I did not have any problems with synhronisation on vista before i install your latest rom 3.4. After this i could connect my phone only like usb mass storage. And bluetooth doesn't work too.
But after install samsung usb driver from your link all work.

31 August 2008 V4 In the Making

Teething issues in V3.3 and V3.4 series with Vista ActiveSync has forced me to reopen the Kitchen and work on a new build that will be both XP and Vista friendly.

The V4 is already in the making and this will be built on DXHH1 platform - the latest official Samsung SGH-i780 WWE (thanks to Dogmood for the find and link)

I will combine DXHH1 with SCH-M480 components and XIPs and hopefully we will get it right this time with Vista USB Sync and a few other minor issues

I thank you for your patience and support.

For now. I will be revoking all links to previous models. Please do not ask me how to get them because I would want to focus only on HH1 build

Yesterdsay the same happened to me with the i780DXHE1, but going back a previous version it worked fine.
So I have tried again with the i780DXHE1 and same problem shown again. At that point I took off the battery and tried to flash directly the i780_WM6.1_EFNV3.0.bin and everything works good with also the i780DXHE1 installed...

I am not a big expert on these new PDA experience but I think it can work.

H1 is based on WM6.0 and is native to samsung i780. EFN is going to mix and match, and try to use m480 (CDMA model similar to i780) drivers. He will also use the HTC Kaiser drivers too.

There are people who had flashed it on the phone as well. So my guess is the phone and pda. Also since this is DXHH1, my guess is that the rom is from malaysia / singapore.

Check in i780 Tweaks,
Tap on realVGA,
uncheck disable phone skin,
tap ok and restart.

No i tried the technique of removing the battery too. It is still not working. Do you think my battery is so low that it cant switch on. I have no secondary battery to test or external charger.

Yes, Maybe your battery is weak. Try to charge using the phone. Someboby else will come to rescue while you are charging. It should be around 1 hour charging without indication.

AlexD: Remove phone battery and put it back in.. make sure it is fully loaded (and/or try the other battery) .. keep the lit of the back.

Secondly, try to only turn on your phone a few times.. keep the on button pressed for at least 3 seconds..

If your is turning on, that is a good sign, then remove the battery again.. and repeat the step of turning on, at the moment you see the LED going to red, press the Shift + Enter button.. then it should go to flashing mode.

If it doenst turn on.. :(

I think this is a roaming issue. I can confirm that up to V2.1 to V3.4.U, VC is working with Maxis 3G

I have successfully split the HH1 image and have individual eBoot, Radio/Phone and PDA part in a separate file.

Now with V4 release which is still being tested, it is possible to flash eBoot and Phone (HH1) separately. There's no need for that Russian IMG process.

U mean German version dont have Wifi firmware? I never tought that i780 can have separate Wifi rom because on all of the roms that I worked with, the Wifi drivers are included in the OEMDrivers (even for HTC & O2)

Yes that's weird. If I am in your situation, I will flash the whole phone to Official Samsung rom IMG and then send it back to Samsung repair centre for warranty claim. A blank Wifi could mean the i780 has defect. Probably would get a one to one replacement.

First many thanks to EFN, The Solutors and many others for the job done. This is huge.

I have the i780 for two weeks now and it's all good I love this phone. But I have a problem.

I flashed it from french HHC2 rom to PUHE1 and it's ok.
Then I flashed it to DXHE1 and I lost PDA sounds (Phone is ok. ring and calls are working). I try with all the roms based on DXHE1 and I have the same problem.

I cooked the 3.1s switching the original zylonite_Wavedev2.dll directory by the HHC2 one and miracle I have now sound...but I lost the wifi. No wifi section in the manager and no S/W H/W MAC indications in settings version.

Can someone give me a way to explore please?

The third prototype for V4.U has successfully synched via WMDC 6.1 with my laptop. No hanging and cutoff. But just to make sure, I have removed my WMDC first and then install the latest one from MS Windows Mobile website. Hopefully it stays that way because this can be considered as major milestone.

Thanks for your support, but I am in a limbo now trying to figure out how to make this rom CHS compliant. But there's hope as posted by garytanyh above. Why don't u try his method and see how it goes. I never worked on CHS before so it may take a very long time for me to work out anything useful.

Another good news is, Vibranze will be working on my rom using his kitchen and perhaps he will be more well versed with CHS integration. Watch out for rom release from him (if he plan to cook one)

on the vibranze 3.6 rom, on htc home plugin, I would like to know is there anyway to configure the weather update download settings, because evrytime one navigates to weather it connects to gprs to download weather updates, this is a waste of money as once a day download of weather update would do just fine.

Yes V4 will have CHS reading ability by default. One note mobile is removed on the V4.0.U version but the standard 128DPI V4 will have them.

Sorry to dissapoint, V3.4 and above will not have HTC home. You can actually install it easily if you really need HTC Home. I am just not comfortable with the idea of publicly releasing a cooked rom with HTC stuff on Samsung device...u get what I mean ;)

Unfortunately porting into a language which is not WWE can be too difficult and time consuming for me. However I can share the kitchen if you want to try at porting it. An Italian version has already been successfully ported aby the Solutor so I guess a Russian should be doable as well

Sorry to dissapoint, V3.4 and above will not have HTC home. You can actually install it easily if you really need HTC Home. I am just not comfortable with the idea of publicly releasing a cooked rom with HTC stuff on Samsung device...u get what I mean ;)

I just flashed and installed 2 extra application. one korean font and one korean locale application.
After that all key does not work except touch screen.

Just want to say thanks to EFN, you let our i780 to realize their full potentials :)

Anyway, one strange thing I want to mention:

Initially, with stock rom, I installed AEButton and it can change the button behaviors. Specifically, it changed the GPS-HOLD setting and it can also change RED/END-KEY-HOLD setting. (that is I can alter the default Press-N-Hold-GPS to some other applications then the default "Data Connection")

However, upon flashing to v3.1, v3.3XG and v3.4, I wasn't able to use AEButton to change the above. Is there anything different about button assignments in your rom then the stock? (Sorry, didn't back up my old rom, but it was a very old one, I believe an "A")

Yes, you can flash eBoot + Phone + PDA at one time. Just make sure you selected the right one.


Note:
Some i780 models from certain countries seem to be built differently from other i780. And since the rom that I am working on is based on DX (Asian) models, some odd behaviours are expected if you phone is not natively from DX series.
