Note:
After Flashing the PDA section. PLEASE Soft Reset Once to recalibrate the Operator and Phone Settings

V5 Kitchen Released 17/10/2008
Download (http://www.mediafire.com/?20mmh0mmgmt)

Extract Kitchen contents to your PC
Copy a bin file into the folder and name it i780.bin (first time only)
Run CreateDump.bat (first time only)
DELETE the Dump folder that has been created but leave everything else intact
Modifications to the rom are done manually in OEM and SYS Folder
To cook the rom, run 1_Reloc.exe -> Do It!
Then run 2_BuildOS.exe to prepare \Temp\Dump Folder
If there's no error encountered, move the \Temp\Dump folder to the main area
Now run RecreateBin.bat and then ConvertNb0ToBin.bat
The new flashable bin is ready for use
This kitchen assumes that you are familiar with modification of rgus and xml files (please do research in XDA forum for hints)

*offtopic* why should it samsung so long for an update. Because now some l33t had build his own. Like Samsung has 69^69 people working at samsungmobile and he does it all by it self. Ofcourse it has te be tested and perfected, but the bugs above shouldnt be that difficult for samsung to fix.

Ok, i just install this rom. in my opinion is little bit faster than original E1 rom, it has installed htc home and htc comm manager witch are working very good. You can add or remove tabs from htc home. Autopairing with bluetooth devices work, sync via bt also works.

Bugs i've found (just like EFS writes):
1. misplaced pop up baloons
2. Alt and Shift indicator not shown on the bar
3. task manager from settings have no icon
4. Samsung themes dosen't work

But these are small, and you can live with it

Hey thanks all.

The bug with Samsung Theme was expected. I tried removing it during the cooking process but it was a part of the main CPL. So what I will do next is to make a cab file to restore Samsung Theme so that you don't have to reflash with a new fix. Same with other fixes, I prefer to make fixes through cab rather than re-cooking the whole rom which is quite sizeable to upload.

With that in mind, anybody know of any good Cab maker? Freeware hopefully.

I have not used any GPS sofware (TomTom etc) on this rom yet. This is just my fourth day with an i780, but I will use one very soon and I expect it will work because the core WM6.1 SYS was "borrowed" from an official rom (HTC Kaiser) and the OEM parts and drivers from Official Samsung HE1, so there's no reason the drivers would not work if they have worked properly before on those roms.

And please keep the feedbacks coming. Until we get an official WM6.1 from Samsung, we will hang on to this one :)

Sorry buddy, I am a complete noob when it comes to unlocking phones, just like the rest of you, I will have to rely on whatever tools available.

The good thing about SGH i780 is that the bootloader seems to run on a very sturdy HardSPL which makes it very resilient to rom changes :D

Just changed GPS Settings : GPS program port -> COM1, Hardware port -> COM9 (defalut).

For the CHS + JK (Japan/Korean), you need to get the correct wince.nls together with the fonts.

Refer to the following website and you will get an idea on how to bundle them in your ROM.

The Ouson CJK package contained a very nice fonts but after installed your keyboard will stop working, need to tinker with the .cab to modify it properly.

If you have problem of keyboard display in 96dpi mode please reinstall your CE-star in 96dpi mode then all problem solve even you switch back to 128dpi mode

Thanks for your support, but I am in a limbo now trying to figure out how to make this rom CHS compliant. But there's hope as posted by garytanyh above. Why don't u try his method and see how it goes. I never worked on CHS before so it may take a very long time for me to work out anything useful.

Another good news is, Vibranze will be working on my rom using his kitchen and perhaps he will be more well versed with CHS integration. Watch out for rom release from him (if he plan to cook one)

As you've added a backup application in the cooked ROM it's now much easier to flash and then restore stuff ;)

That would happen sometimes using RealVGA. I suggest you open RealVGA and enable Phone Skin because disabling phone skin will make Video Call button missing.

Thanks for creating this ROM, glad to see a new person started to cook roms for the i780! I installed your 6.1 ROM on my Dutch i780 following your instructions and it works, but I do have some small problems.

When I'm using iGO8, the GPS connects, but the signal is not good, the position 'jumps' in small steps and when I'm driving through a corner the arrow cuts the corner short and doesn't stay on the road (where I obviously do follow the road :P)

Also the Messenger doesn't connect eventhough there is a GPRS connection (this is a common problem with i780 Roms, but I don't know how to fix this.)

I would like to thank you once more for creating this and I hope this project will lead to some great cooked roms for this great divice!

There is a fix, search the forum for testi.reg or go to the trhread thwere the E1 rom is discussed, there is a testi.reg fil,e just import it and you should be fine.

Which version you use? pls make sure that you use CE-Star Ver 2.8 R3c any version below than this wouldn't support wm6.1.... if you are not using original software pls get 1. coz most of the Crack will be R3b

Also the Messenger doesn't connect eventhough there is a GPRS connection (this is a common problem with i780 Roms, but I don't know how to fix this.)

Tried briefly the rom.

For the moment the only problem seen are the (already mentioned) themes from samsung app not working and the caps/num lock indicator not shown.

Now just a suggetion to the chef.


Part of the flashing istructions are unneccessary:

To clarify the situation, the needed steps to flash the PDA section are:


Use XP and not Vista

Install activesyinc (if not already installed)

Connect the phone to the USB cable.

Start the mirage tools with the "start detect immediately" checked.

Press the button "detect".

Switch the phone OFF and then switch the phone ON. No additional battery, or button operations are required. Simply Pw OFF and Pw ON the phone.


Only if you have to flash the PHONE and/or the EBOOT section you need also the samsung gerneric modem drivers (usually the i600/i607 drivers).


I hope this can help some newbie (and not so newbie) users.

The mouse has still the wrong aim (which is annoyng especially using operamini) try it on the note app doing some dots/drawings.



Until someone find a real fix, the workaround is to use an ofsetted cursor (I attach the file below, only the cursor 25 is attacched).

Hey no worries, as mentioned on the first page, you need to install Samsung USB driver first (link provided)

And the Alt key is the last button on the left of the keypad (black and white split in half) the very same key used to toggle number pad.

The reason you can't import a theme because of resolution problem. No worries, tommorow I will be releasing V2 for the WM6.1 with some fixes and 19900 core (which I liked very much when I was cooking HTC Universal). The V2 will have a theme you can select which is completely black

Is this related to why the theme option in the settings tab doesnt do anything?

Couple of bugs I havnt seen mentioned elsewhere.

Space button press and hold doesnt seem to switch vibrate on and off anymore?

There is a missing resource when you change to 128dpi for the threaded SMS icons.

Looking forward to V2, I'll hold off installing many more apps until this is done ;)

Hi, another bug I have noticed with email syncing with Exchange 2007.

Attachments just seem to sit there and wont download eventually 'Attachments will download next time you connect and receive e-mail.' appears. ActiveSync says it is downloading the attachments but doesn't.

Anyone else having issues with this may just be somthing at my end?

Please be reminded that some fixes are quite troublesome for me to achieve simply because I am not even a programming person. Yes I am good with registry but I will do whatever I can to accomodate requests. Some features are simply non compliant with WM6.1 and require dlls change which is quite tough to tackle.

But as of now I have included the following fix:
- Samsung theme fix (done)
- Windows Live fix (inserted the mxip_oemdrivers_101.provxml from previous rom)
- Keyboard dlls from HE1 (still testing and hopefully will be in good shape soon)
- Dialpad from Nadavi 3G Dialer (a tough one and still in progress)
- RealVGA dlls (the error you get when switching modes but this problem comes with RealVGA itself, little hope of making the error message dissapear but it will still work fine)
- Adaptation of non English keyboard (hopefully with the correct dll done mentioned above this one will work)
etc

That's to mention just a few. I am doing development work alone which normally takes 3-10 dedicated developers at manufacturer side (in this case SamsungMobile) so please do not put up too much hope of a 100% bug free rom ;) but just for fun I will attempt it anyway

No problems appreciate your work on 6.1, my only real bug is the space bar vibrate switch (mainly due to my lazyness ;) ) and the keyboard indicators.

The real VGA issue isn't really an issue as I use 96dpi so the missing resource isn't an issue for me.

I copied the .tsk file to /My Documents and this worked like a charm, didnt know that a .tsk file had to be in /My Documents.

So works like a charm.. again, and again, we appreciate your work. Can't I donate a red bull or something ?

i think i found another bug that should be related to E1 firmware: i have some application on storage card linked on samsung today..and sometime when i try to lunch them, it say there problem coz the might be missing..and in file manager i can t see storage card..so i plug off the microsd an put it again..then it works..

with the D1 firmare i didn t have this problem..

I experience the same issue with DXHE1..maybe even before,not sure. For some reason, the phone can't see the card (i.e. yesterday I tried to d/l Opera 9.5b1 with pocket IE, TWICE after the download completed the phone told me it can't copy to the selected location - storage card (even though it was available before begining the download). So I launched File Explorer and really no Storage card was listed.. in the end I d/l it to main memory)

I have downloaded the SCH-i760 Official WM6.1 rom and have managed to grab the nb0 core, but I am having problem dumping it using three kitchen that I have.

What I am interested in is to see how the XIP and components are build on this rom. But I am not sure the things I want to take out for i780 kitchen is there since SCH-i760 is alltogether a different device (despite being in the same family). The keyboard is different and so is the resolution. I doubt much of useful new things can be ported over to my kitchen.



BTW,
I am in the final stages of concluding the V2 release and now tinkering with SDHC settings to resolve the problem commonly found in HE1 rom.

Hey thanks. Unfortunately if there's a bug with HTC Home and the components, I will not be able to hack into it and fix it. It's a non Samsung apps anyway and it's not even supposed to be there in the first place LOL!:p:D

The backlight toggle I assign to a keyboard key (the GPS key) and it worked perfectly.

Hey buddy, I think you have a bad installer bin file. Please stop using the i780pda_DXHE1 and re-download a fresh one. Or perhaps your i780 has a lock on specific version of ROM allowed (but honestly I have no idea on this). For a measurement, you MUST be able to flash the official i780pda_DXHE1 first and if it fails the WM6.1 rom will definitely fail as well because the WM6.1 rom is based on DXHE1.

It is an unbranded Version.
Try to redownload the Rom from an other mirror and will have a look at it again.

DON'T even consider doing it. Like I said earlier SCH-i760 is a different hardware altogether and like most devices (even within HTC itself), they have their own specific drivers, XIP, dlls etc. I suspect you would not be able to get the Rom installer going through because it will check for device version first and will only proceed when an i760 is attached. A safer bet will be to wait for Samsung official WM6.1 update.....should be around the corner hopefully....

I want to upgrade to the E1 fimware, but when I have everything running and I reboot the phone, XP detects the Phone as the i780 and then it ask me for drivers.

I have the samsung modem drivers installed, when i give up the location of the drivers XP doesn't find\recognize them.

Dont know whether im the only one with this issue, but i will post it anyway.

In order to get the dial pad back to full size, either install Nadavi's 3G dialer

Or, if like me, you dont want to use this due to the problem with not being able to dismiss the line 2 notification thing, then install Nadavi's dialer,reboot, then disable it using advanced config or such like, reboot. Hey presto, full size original MS dialer skin.

Dunno whether this helps anyone.

EFN is already advised that some steps are not needed. (post #67)

BTW here are the essential istructions.

To clarify the situation, the needed steps to flash the PDA section are:


Use XP and not Vista

Install activesyinc (if not already installed)

Connect the phone to the USB cable.

Start the mirage tools with the "start detect immediately" checked.

Press the button "detect".

Switch the phone OFF and then switch the phone ON. No additional battery, or button operations are required. Simply Pw OFF and Pw ON the phone.


Only if you have to flash the PHONE and/or the EBOOT section you need also the samsung gerneric modem drivers (usually the i600/i607 drivers).


I hope this can help some newbie (and not so newbie) users.

You can get the MS phone skin back to the original size, simply using the checkmark on the realvga configuration applet.

Your best option is to start all over again. First download the USB driver from here: http://rapidshare.com/files/131736002/20080305035413859_Samsung_USB_Driver_MCCI_4.34_WHQ L_v3.4.exe.html

Then, uninstall all previous USB drivers from your XP machine from System Properties -> Advanced -> Device Manager

REBOOT

Install the USB driver now

REBOOT

Put your i780 in Emergency mode and plug in the USB cable. To know if it's working, please take note if your XP is informing you of a successfull detection and installtion of the USB driver right after you plugged in your i780 while in Emergency Mode.

If that works, plug out your phone. Shut down and bring it up again in Emergency Mode.

Now run Mirage Updater and when ready (after pressing Detect), plug in your Phone to flash.

23 July 2008 Update V2.1 Fix

FIRST, if you are NOT running DXHE1, you must do this:

(0) Download Mirage Updater
(1) Download the Russian ROMS
(2) Download the E1 English PDA ROM
(3) Switch off your phone and remove the battery, then insert the battery
(4) Extract the two files downloaded in steps 1,2,3 in the same directory
(5) Launch Mirage updater. Select MIRAGE LV image as the profile
(6) Select EBOOT+PDA+PHONE and select the extracted RUSSIAN .img file
(7) Click on DETECT
(8) Switch on the phone while holding the ENTER and FUNCTION buttons (ALT BUTTON)
(9) After the system DETECT message appears, connect the phone via USB to your PC
(10) Wait until the image is written.

Repeat steps 3-10 the process for the E1 english PDA ROM. i.e the .bin file
However, this time, for step 6 select PDA in Mirage updater and

Your phone should be working in no time.
PDA Version: i780DXHE1
Phone Version: i780PUHE1

Can u please tell us did u manage to flash the PDA part with the OFFICIAL Samsung DXHE1 WM6.0 rom? it is likely if you managed to flash but then losing the mouse due to a bad bin file. sometimes they get corrupted through bad download. You can also try downgradinng your phone to older roms and then repeat the steps.

If the OFFICIAL Samsung DXHE1 WM6.0 rom is the file "i780_PUHE1_Rev12.img", then yes. The mouse is working but language is Russian. But after flashing the "i780pda_DXHE1.bin" on PDA, the problem appears. I tried also at D1 ROM, "i780_PUHD1_Rev12.img" then "i780DXHD1_PDA.bin", same thing happened. If complete flashing (EBOOT+PDA+Phone) no problem with mouse but after upgrading the PDA, the problem comes. I am now using C4 (i780_DXHC4_Rev12.img) since it is the only available complete flashing english file.

Hello Guys,
1. I still got this keyboard n spacebar problem coz I don't know how to put a "link to KeypadStatusIndicator.exe in the \windows\startup folder". Sound simple but after 1 hour, I gave up n write this.
2. I always look for upgrades n freeware for my i780, but after this upgrade, how do I describe my phone because the normal i780 come with wm6 but ours are wm6.1. Do I look for wm6.1 freewares or still i780?

22 July 2008 Update V2.0 Core ROM

EF V2 Samsung SGH-i780 Windows Mobile 6.1 AKU 1.0.4 EF Release.

Note:
Please understand that I am not a full time developer and my knowledge with WMs are limited to modding regs and tweaks. So the V2 rom that I am releasing now does contains some adjustment and improvements over the V1 but nothing drastic. Those that's beyond my skill and knowledge will remain the same. Some requests I have been able to cater but some not, your kind understanding is much appreciated

So we begin with the known bugs first:
- Keyboard state notification still will not show on the SIP windows when you press Alt or Shift (this is dependent on Zylonite driver which seems to work on WM6.0 - I can't modify any of the Zylonite drivers or DLLs)
- Pressing Hardware Space Bar will open dialer window instead (not Vibrate)
- SPB Mobile Shell 2.0 does not run 100%
- In the default 96 DPI mode, some Windows will be displayed akwardly small but 100% functional.
- Some Pop-ups still strayed from the center but 100% functional
- Nadavi 3G Dialer, if you install it into this build will have odd behaviour on the ringtones
- Today Theme not designed for 96DPI will not display properly
- 96 DPI mode will have lesser support for Asian SIPs

V2 Features:
- Still runs 50% on 96DPI HTC Kaiser Windows Mobile Pro 6.1 Build 19212 core
- Now the Shell and OS components runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro 19900 core (but the build on About will still show 19212)
- With 19900 componets, marginal performance improvement over V1
- 40% of the components (OEM parts, XIP, Rgus & Hives) are from Samsung SGH-i780 Official WWE DXHE1 (WM6.0 WWE)
- SIP Keyboard driver now runs on DXHE1 WM6.0 dll and this will allow for NON English SIP (not the hardware input) to run properly. V1 release does not have this feature. This means you can install euro SIPs and it will work fine. (Tested on German SIP so far)
- All "almost black" theme from the boot up. I hope you like it
- Fix for Windows Live which was used before on DXHE1 installed

Apps Included:
- Opera 8.65 REMOVED - so that you will have 6MB released and make room for any Opera build you want. You can install Opera 9.5b which is available for download now from www.opera.com
- Samsung Theme now works 100% but may seem akward in 96DPI mode
- RealVGA defaults to 96DPI and changeable to 128DPI
- HTC Home (no changes from V1)
- HTC CommManager (no changes from V1)
- Adobe Reader LE (no changes from V1)
- Samsung Alarm (no changes from V1)
- psShutXP (no changes from V1)

- Then Plug in the USB cable
- It should begin downloading automatically and once done you can disconnect your i780
- DONE!

Yes Office Mobile will work perfectly because it comes from native 96DPI 19212 Windows Mobile 6.1. I cannot have a PDA and not having MS Office Mobile not working :D

Unfortunately Mirage Updater only works in XP. I am using a Vista 32bit now but when flashing I use my Windows XP Home Asus EEPC.

Yes it is a strange problem. Have tried everything but always with the same result, the mouse stops working. With the complete E1 in Russian it works, but then with D1 or E1 in English it stops. Must have something to do with different models - my is a Swedish

my screen is setted at 128dpi... (i hate real-vga... :mad:)
When i select a contact, in the menu there is the videocall function, but when i select it a voice call starts...

Put your i780 in Emergency mode and plug in the USB cable. To know if it's working, please take note if your XP is informing you of a successfull detection and installtion of the USB driver right after you plugged in your i780 while in Emergency Mode.

If that works, plug out your phone. Shut down and bring it up again in Emergency Mode.

Now run Mirage Updater and when ready (after pressing Detect), plug in your Phone to flash.

Serious I've tried this serveral times on different computers, no result. Installing the driver goes OK but when I plug in the phone the OS keeps telling 'New Hardware found' and want a driver but doesn't find one.

When i select a contact, in the menu there is the videocall function, but when i select it a voice call starts...

I have similar problem, but it appeared surely after installing first WM6.1 rom.. other thing is that if I make a video call from my (nokia) E51 to I780 it seems to be working in the E51 end but without video image and in I780 end it seems like regular voice call.

...and after installing WM6.1 two scratches appeared on my screen... :mad: prkl..

After flash the V2.1 yesterday now i have problem with SD Card.
After the phone goes in standby for a while i have no access to SD Card.
I must softreset or reinsert the card.

Try starting from the "my" rom (V2.1), which is zipped, so an incomplete download can be immediately detected, the original EFN's roms are posted in not compressed form, so it is possible that you have downloaded an incomplete file.

From the feedbacks received so far, I have decided to withdraw all V1, V2 and V2.1 Release - making way for a newer build I am working on now. Apparently some people don't quite like the way my previous roms are being built. And I will review the flashing issue as well.

Until I am happy with the way my next release behave, I will not offer any new roms for i780. Thanks for the support and kind words.

I think that everyone using these ROMs should be aware that they are sort of beta/experimental versions and therefore they shoud now that problems may occur.

I my case I was just trying to confirm/report a bug and NOT to complain. And I am very happy to use/try your ROMs. One can always go back to previus ROMs if so decides.

Yes Office Mobile will work perfectly because it comes from native 96DPI 19212 Windows Mobile 6.1. I cannot have a PDA and not having MS Office Mobile not working :D

Sorry but possibly there is a misunderstanding due to my poor english!!

Office Mobile works correctly (I cannot have a PDA and not having MS Office Mobile working like you).....my only "aesthetic problem" is that I can not see xls, xlt (and few more) icons wile I'm browsing my memories with File Explorer. They are shown as unknown....the if I click on them everything work!!

Any way once you'll be back to us with a new built I'll try....do not loose time here and give us a wonderful 6.1 rom!!!
