******WARNING YOU MUST HAVE THE UNLOCKER APPLIED**************
I have SPL3.5 and managed to extract the Radio from Taxists latest Rom , which I believe is from the 7510'
It worked for me so here it is if you are game
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=YSK3CXLX
http://rapidshare.com/files/144562997/athena-radio-1.58.rar.html
I used Duttys NBH tool that Irus has linked on the WM6 page
This rom seems to work well on SPL 1.2 and 3.5
Some Roms wont show the H icon eg michyprimas (see here for solution) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2447327&postcount=3
There is also a guide to errors you might receive in a text file included in the rom, that I got from one of the AP4 installations
** adition October 2008 **
Unfortunately Video call is not playing nicely with this radio
I have had to revert to Radio 1.57 to get it working again

So far, I'm only observing the data connection capability, and noted that the H icons stay there all the time, so internet and email connections no longer has a lag. In other word, both internet and email seems faster with this radio.
I hope this behaviour is stable. Let's continue to observe and see how it goes.

The same as a ROM flash.
It will hard reset, so backup first before upgrading.

Anyone from the US running this radio? is it better than the previous, does it improve battery life/reception/etc?

I would be interested to know if anyone here in the USA has tried this version, On the AT&T network in particular. (I have the 1.57.00 radio currently on US AT&T and it works very well, very rapid Sat Lock on too)

Hi tovarish.
To be sure , I checked the contents of the file and they are the same as in any 1.2 SPL upgrade.
There is also a file walking you through the process and explains any error messages you might get and their solution.
Lenny and Brau, this is the same radio as in taxists latest rom so if any US members have tried it it should work.
I think irus has used it.
Why don't you give it a try and report what you think.
Eaglesteve usually gives a good opinion and workout of apps he tries but of course he is in australia.

Why not try out yourself? It is so easy and involves so little effort and time.
- backup using sprite
- flash the new radio and test
- if there is improvement, restore. If not, flash back old radio and restore.
Done.

the thing is its not hard to do so, its just that I didn't want to "re-create the wheel", in other words if someone tried it already and it worked or didn't work they could easily relay that info so other's wouldn't have to do it.
I will relay that info so other's in the US won't have to "re-create the wheel": this radio doesn't work in the US. you can try it for yourself, but it didnt' work for me.

While I have not yet tested all radio functions, I can say that it does work on US AT&T. I have not noticed any major diff from Radio v1.57.00 for me (your results may differ from mine, based on carrier & area you live).

It certainly works in the US, on at&t anyway. No differences from 1.57 at all for me.

The one thing I have found is that on some of the current OS Roms, you have to make sure that the BAND selector (in Phone Settings) is set to "Auto" or there are problems and that is true on all radio versions 1.5x.00 that I have been running as os late.

It actually worked this time. I didn't know about setting the BAND to Auto, thanks for the info. I'm using IRUS/TAXIST ultra lite and it seems to do the trick. :D....I had tried this radio with another rom and it didn't work, but its working with this rom.
This radio doesn't seem to toggle between 3G and HSDPA...wouldn't this be a source of battery drain?
yeah yeah, I know its sounds like an ass of a question, but I don't know another way to word it...

Lennie, glad that you finally got it to work.
Don't know about battery life because I don't usually pay much attention to this. It's going to need a spare battery no matter what I do as I'm just too heavy a user.
But as far as internet connection and email connection is concerned, there is no doubt in my mind now that this radio is faster than any other radio I've tried. Internet connection no longer has the usual long pause before connection and mail download. For this reason, I'm glad that Lakeman has posted this.

Ahhhh The Constant H my friends is the next step above hsdpa and that hsupa! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Speed_Uplink_Packet_Access .Basically hsdpa is higher speed when DOWNLOADING than umts(384kbs) in which depending on phase can go up and above 7.6mbps ,but when uploading/ being idleit drops to umts speeds and H turns to 3g.Hsupa is same thing but for uploading thus keeping H at all times. With both technologies combined its hspa i believe.Personally havent tried this radio but hearing this about constant H is good,in other words what good is downloading if uploads are slow, with hsupa makes overall data speed faster.I guess the next step now is 4g??? For the record and i confirmed with att in usa, they support hsupa in most areas inc. mine. The only other devices besides athenas with this radio that support hsupa is the 8925 (tilt aka kaiser) and maybe the diamond (theoretically msm 7200 devices with proper radio)

Thanks for this explanation. No wonder my net surfing and email download is so noticeably faster. I guess it takes less time to send the request to the server at least.

Yup I guess so, because Rogers network have the 3g iPhone and they're giving it with a 3g data plan which I have on X7500. And before I flash to the 1.58, I was using the WM6 official with the 1.57 radio, I was getting the "H" but fluctuating from 3G to H

Day 2 of testing, and... an interesting result this morning. Where I sit at work I never can get a 3G/H signal and usually only get a 2-bar Edge signal, sometimes only one bar. This morning I glanced at my Athena and to my surprise it was showing an H. Only one bar, but still, an H. Then 2 bars here and there.
So I went to Mobile Speed Test and ran a few tests. 600+ kbps every time, one almost at 700. In the past using the 1.57 radio I usually only got around 500 around town with a solid 2 or 3 3G bars (H enabled), and my best time ever was around 750 but that was a fluke. But no 3G/H at my desk.
There is the remote possibility that an antenna was adjusted yesterday afternoon, giving me a better signal. Maybe they upgraded some equipment. And I know that constant hsdpa/hsupa should give slightly better transfer times. However, I had hsdpa turned on before, too, and the probability of equipment changes on the other end the same day I upgrade my radio software is just about zero. Especially around here where they barely make any system changes, ever.
So I'm giving credit for this massive change to the new radio. I'm impressed.
Just now I ran more tests and got my fastest times EVER... 769, 770, 793, 899, 983.:eek:
BTW, I'm running AP4 ROM, the public Opera 9.5 beta, and of course radio v1.58.

Hi, I am a first-timer here. And I am overwhelmed with fear everytime I plan on upgrading any ROM or Radio. Too many people post how they screwed up their device after such upgrades. And I cant imagine a day without my athena, furthermore, I don't have much money to spare for a new device..:o . And there are so many post and instructions on how to upgrade and flash, some claim to be the best, some says otherwise...I am going crazy!!
So, my question is, can someone show me 'THE BEST WAY' or 'BEST TOOL' to upgrade my radio. Because it sucks!! But I am still too scared to do the ROM:o
Any help?

1.High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) and High Speed Uplink Packet Access (HSUPA) technology is an evolution of the UMTS standard that enhances the capabilities of 3G by enabling higher data transfer rates. Releases 5 and 6 of the Third Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) will enable downlink transfer speeds up to 14.4 Mbps and uplink transfer rates of up to 5.76 Mbps.

Anybody living in New York city (or nearby) using the 1.58 radio and, if so, have you found it significantly better than 1.57?
Also, do i flash a radio from sd the same way as a rom? Do I rename the nbh file to ATHEIMG.NBH, as I did with the rom upgrade I did?

I've never been able to get better than around 400 kbps (usually much lower) over AT&T 3G on either the stock radio or 1.58. I'm in NYC on the $20/mo MediaMax (or something like that) unlimited plan with the wap.cingular access point. Could that be it? Are those of you who are getting much better speeds on the pda plan or using the other access point (isp.cingular, I think)?

Just saw this message. My fastest-ever speed so far is now 1200 kbps, but usually I see the speed between 500 and 750. I use the MediaNet connection because it allows you to turn off the proxy setting - necessary to get some apps to work right.

Sorry to hear this , sounds like you had a bad flash and broke your radio firmware

I would suggest http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2154726, it helped me with three bricked Wifi's after flashing a ROM with radio 1.58.0.0.
Dont forget to donate to cmonex if it works for you, he's worth it :D

Megaupload site is a blank page while file from rapidshare could not be opened - message says file is corrupt. Please advise any other links.

Just tried to upload my copy of the zip file here, not sure if it worked unless I post this message....
Edit: and I don't see it. I'll try again later if someone else doesn't post it first.

Just tried again and got a message that the upload failed. Don't know why, its smaller than the max 8 GB allowed.
