Is there anyway to get the U icon for UMTS to show up instead of the 3g icon?

Depends on what area you're in, over here we get H for HSPDA/UMTS and I use 1.47.30.10 radio, in NZ using the Vodafone network.

Im in the US. I can get the H icon when Im connected to the internet and actually sending/recieving packets... but when Im not connected, I get the 3G icon instead of the U icon. I want the U icon to show up instead of the 3G icon.

And yes I do realize they are the same, but I still want the U.

To be honest, I have not seen a U in the 2 months I had my hermes.

I thought this depended on the icon pack that was cooked into the rom.. I've been experimenting on this recently with my own cooked rom ;)
There's a oem pack out there to have the H show up instead of the G but i'm not to sure on the U.

The 'U' icon was normally found in WM5 ROMs, I believe they were replaced with '3G' from WM6 onwards, you could easily replace it with a U if you really wanted, just modify the icon pack. You would get H if you are using HSDPA (and also if you had enabled the icon).

Ah ok, that explains why I have not seen a WM6(.1) ROM out there that displayed the U icon. I'll see what i can do about setting my one. Thanks for the help.

Well, no, sry you want to go the opposite way. Change "3G" to "U".

no it wont...
it has to do with the phcanoverbmp.dll
if you ask one of the chefs very nicely, they may be able to edit the file to show the old G / U.

Dump one of the old WM5 ROMs from the wiki, the phcanoverbmp.dll from that would do.

Ok, dumb question... how do you dump a ROM? Do you mean load one and then check the phcanoverbmp.dll?
