Figured a thread would be good to see when the Raphael is rumoured to be released and up for sale around the globe.

Perhaps replying in the following format would be useful:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Country: UK
Site/Vendor: MobileFun.co.uk (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/)
Date of Release: TBA
Offers Pre-Order: Yes

Comments Below:

Currently still waiting on the dates from the site but they have a section already set up for the Touch Pro (Raphael) (http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/cat/HTC-Touch-Pro.htm) and assure me they are offering preorders once they have more info from HTC. Bought my Hermes from them and they were excellent to deal with.

Dear MrVanx,

We will have it on pre order sometime next week and we will definitely be selling it.

Thanks

This was a responce back in June, theyve been really good before so there must be a delay getting info from HTC perhaps.

---------------------------------------------------------

EDIT:: Ive added the release info to the Raphael Wiki pages HERE (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Raphael_Vendors)

I can have one now for £130 or I can wait a 2 bill cycles and have one for free.

But what would be the point if you get the Euro version to use in the 'States (I'm assuming it'll be primarily used in the 'States, right?) when it won't support AT&T's 3G frequencies? It'll still work, but you'd be running on EDGE at best and for a phone like this, it's a little silly...

Isnt 3G in the states 2100MHz??

so it will come to US shores:

http://www.expansys-usa.com/d.aspx?i=169845

Release date is listed as 4th August. Note the radio data:

HSDPA/WCDMA:
- Europe/Asia: 900/2100 MHz
- Up to 384 kbps up-link and 7.2 Mbps down-link speeds
* Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz (Band frequency and data speed are operator dependent)

So this suggests HSDPA but not UPA. Also shows Quad-band GSM, but then has that odd parenthetical comment about operators...

So do these frequencies support US (e.g. AT&T) HSDPA? GSM seems to be covered.

22nd July 2008, 11:19 PM
Yeah; it doesn't look like it will be US 3G compatible. Which sucks; a lot.

I think the US 3G is at 850 MHz... And the world bands are the 900/2100MHz. I know that GSM/GPRS/EDGE runs on 850 already, but that's how the US is...

pazookie
23rd July 2008, 07:48 AM
USA 3g/umts frequencies are 1900..maybe 850 in the future but not anytime soon

I can have one delivered tomorrow (but I prefer to wait until I get it for free)

The initial offer may only be open to "high value, long term customers".

when I called to enquire about availability of the Diamond (compact IV) last Sunday I was told there were about 22 left out of 70 available
but I was not given any information about the MDA Vario IV being available, despite asking.

As usual, not all CSRs are as clued up as they ought to be but what I've written here is fact.

IF you can prove otherwise, please do. I have been around long enough to know not to post inaccurate information.

If you have been TOLD otherwise, please make that clear, that you were told otherwise ;)

Popped into the O2 Strand, London store today to enquire about a release date. I was told by the salesman in a rather 'definitive' voice that O2 will be releasing the Diamond & Touch Pro (Diamond Pro?) at the same time in early September.

Order placed. If I'd placed the order yesterday the device would have been with me now :(

t-mobile UK started receiving stock 2 weeks ago, current stock levels at -6

Orders are coming in in batches of 4 to 5 hundred and going out the door as fast as they come in.

Another delivery is due in tomorrow and mine should be with me on Friday for a very well negotiated price of £80 ... back of the net :D

If anyone wants to post a URL for a method of extracting a fresh t-mobile ROM please do. I'll upload it somewhere as soon as I can ;)

Given that the diamond was released to blow the i phone out of the water (which in my opinion it did). I am suprised that mobile phone companies do not spend more time making people aware of their up and coming releases.
Surely an effective sale pitch has to be key to advertising, then again i fix helicopters what do I know about advertising?

Same for me - can upgrade from a Vario 2 on August 31st. Was really close to jumping ship for the iPhone until a mate demoed one yesterday and the first AppStore app he showed off caused the phone to reboot. So why go from an o/s that is generally reliable with a few glitches to another o/s that is generally reliable with a few glitches and forego FM Radio, QWERTY and AD2P I now ask myself...

I've been with T-mob for over a year now, but on sim only as I've always bought my phones sim free. so I think my chances of getting one from them are slim.

I've been on the waiting list at expansys since May though so hopefully I'll be among the first to get a device when they get stock. even if I do have to wait another 2 weeks.

the good thing is that by then, maybe people will have ironed out some of the bugs (surely there wont be any ;) )

Contract dude, im with tmob but Im gonna go for the Touch PRO rather than the Vario 4. Like to keep a bit flexible when it comes to a contract ;)

Besides the mrs will get the new handset i get with my upgrade.

UPDATE:

It would seem I have been made an offer by t-mobile which cannot yet be fulfilled: The vario IV, it transpires, may not be available.

Two t-mobile CSRs have made a serious error and offered me the Vario IV when they shouldn't have. However, on the upside, that offer is in writing.

I intend to get to the bottom of this situation and, more importantly, hold them to the offer they made to me the term ' loss of bargain ' springs to mind.

This is what I was thinking, I took Compact IV for my missus on Monday and she let me play with it until Saturday. When I heard that I could get Vario IV I was a bit disappointed, but I thought that some idiots in T-Mobile could mistake Compact IV for Vario IV, they may have thought that it's the same stuff, or the customer doesn't know, and they know better...

Ok now it's super weird...NOW on the Touch Pro instead of omitting 850mHz, they have quad band EDGE but left out the 850mHz hsdpa? what the heck is going on with HTC? I just don't get it. why would you alienate an entire country of smartphone users by omitting the 850 band? Even if it has something to do with the qualcomm legal dispute, don't they realize that if someone is roaming to the US from overseas that it won't becuase it's missing that bad? pathetic....

Non existent order canceled until Vario stock in hand, probably mid august when they "will be tested for 2 weeks to ensure stability" before being released.

I was awaiting a call back re delivery and I didn't get the call, so I called and questioned stock levels only to be told, again categorically, that there was no stock.

I don't think its entirely fair to blame the t-mobile staff, if people ring asking for a phone that they dont have but sounds very similar to what they DO have then its an easy mistake to make.

Buoyed by the definitive statements in this thread I rang two different advisors today, one was very helpful and even rang around the warehouse and a shop and ended up saying they didn't have any and they would be in after 2nd week in august.

well i guess we just have to wait till AUg 4 or thereafter to obtain one.
there are a couple of ebay power sellers in Aus that stock the diamond and will have the touch pro soon as well for a much cheaper price.

e.g. diamond sells for $685AU from ebay shops in Aus so Im assuming the touch pro will be a 100 or so more expensive.

I think it's entirely reasonable to expect someone on £15,700 + commission (pa) to be able to differentiate between the words "Compact" and "Vario"

Even if they are Welsh :p

I'd make you right.

i got a diamond/victor today and when i called to explain this the guy in direct sales i spoke to was completely confused by the whole situation.

I even directed him to the home page of htc's website to show him the difference between the devices.

Not really his fault for not being trained though. I guess t-mobiles customer services must spend days of wasted man hours on things like this.

Still the diamond is pretty impressive nonetheless.

I used to work for o2 in collections and it is there fault the (t-mobile) retentions team (the people you ring for an upgrade) gennerally get every new high level phone they are releasing and keep these for free (my friend at o2 just got a i-phone 3g and blackberry bold in the last month) there job is to know about phones and there are paid more than customer services because they are a speciallist department they are paid to know better.. i know what i asked for and the advisor was talking about the handset i even mentioned the hardware keyboard he knew what i ment but shipped the compact by the time we have sorted this problem out with returns etc they will have stock of what we want and they will have done there job by keeping the customer but it is downright wrong what they do..

but as i get 50% discount on o2 i might just get my diamond from them!!!!

hmmmm... sounds good?

How can this guy have 17 units??? AND in the US?????? ...when they're not even available anywhere else in the world??? Since when did ANY HTC device become available in the US FIRST????

Sounds suspicious to me...BUT he DOES have the ratings that he's a stand up seller.

I asked to see real pictures of the boxed units and a few other questions that he should be able to answer assuming he really has them.

I hope they are "real" and ooooohhh I can't wait to get my hands on it!!!

Good catch but I guess I'm OK with that....especially if he gets them in stock early and I receive mine early.

Is there some major RISK that I don't know about when dealing with drop shippers?

Now that the Touch Diamond supports 850/1900mhz for US 3G/HSxPA, I was told the Touch Pro would have the same.

NoWhat i meant is that the dutch T-Mobil Shopmanager told me that he had expected the Diamond (t-mobile version) earlier and he expects the Touch Pro to be later in October for T-Mobile Netherlands.

On Smartphone shop i'm pretty sure they are spot on. But they are always bound by What HTC does. BUt they have a good rep so i don't think they will squander that on a wrong release date.

But me i have to wait personally till august 28th to prolong my contract, by that date they will propable also be selling the pro with contracts.

Also looking at how they went down to 499 Euros on the Diamond, i'm hoping the Pro also does well so they can bring down the price because of high volumes. Hey if i know i'm getting it i might as well go for the best deal. Still fiddling around with my Touch anyway so i can wait.

A Little ;)

Right now it seems that a release of the english version (QWERTY) of the Touch Pro is likely for the second or third week of August. As usual localized versions follow about two to three weeks later...

The fact that HTC released this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pENEldRxuwQ) might be another indicatior that the release is closer than we might think...

It did not blow the iPhone out of the water. The iPhone is mainly a US marketed phone which is where they sold most of them. There is not even a US version of the diamod that allows it to take advantage of the 3g band!

I have read somewhere (can't find the link right now) that HTC intends to test Android on all hardware from 2008 on, so chances might be good that Android will also appear on Diamond & Co., which would be much better than WM7 or so. (If you wonder why the Diamond behaves pretty slow in many situations, its not the hardware, its the OS that causes troubles. SonyEricsson has similar problems with Xperia which is the reason the Xperia is delayed - the hardware is ready since early this year.)

HTC Touch Pro & Diamond will not be able for multitouch because they lack a capacitive touchscreen. With their resistive touchscreen technology, they will only be able to get the signal from one touch at the same time. Too bad, this.

I was thinking about that as well. Here in Brazil we don't use ñ, but we do use á, ã, é, í, õ, etc.

They are not a special key, but a combination of them, like ' + a for á, ~ + a for ã, and so forth.

Wonder if the original Pro could do that without flashing, because I don't want a Portuguese languagem ROM.

Play.com (http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/-/1019/1264/-/5817858/HTC-Touch-Pro-Sim-Free-Unlocked-Mobile-Phone/Product.html?searchtype=genre) have said a release date of 29/8 for ages and were the first site I saw to give a specific date, but they changed it to 4/8 about a week ago, and it still says that now even though that's tomorrow!

bizzimobile.com (http://www.bizzimobile.com/product/3E7370AB-B941-4ABE-9E79-56DE16DF8D0A.aspx) says available now! personally I don't believe that lol

Handtec (http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.php/1351/htc-touch-pro), the site that I've pre-ordered from (because they were one of the first to take pre-orders and were the only site I could find that sold the "premium" version with tom tom software which I want), says "due mid august"

Expansys (http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=169424) says 13/8

Inkino (http://www.inkino.co.uk/zen/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=2384&currency=GBP) and HTC Direct (http://www.htcdirect.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=418&currency=GBP) both say 14/8

bestdigitalmarket.com (http://www.bestdigitalmarket.com/view/index/product/HTC-Touch-Pro-p-321/source/FROOGLE/kwd/HTC+Touch+Pro) says "1 week"

Totalpda.co.uk (http://www.totalpda.co.uk/HTC/HTC-Touch-Pro.7387.html) simply says "due in August"

and finally powerupmobile.com (http://www.powerupmobile.com/product--511.htm) says 1st of September

One thing we should bear in mind is that some sites allocate their pre-orders out so that for example if they are expecting to receive 100 units tomorrow and another 100 units the following week, and they've already taken say 150 pre-orders, they will show the release date as next week because tomorrows stock will have all been allocated. Basically the earlier you order, the more likely you are to be the first to get one! I ordered mine a whole month ago :)!

All I can say is I really hope to have one sometime over the next week or two!

Its a shame that handtec are only selling tomtom6 and not tomtom 7. Latest maps for version 6 are seriously out of date. Check on the kaiser forum for tomtom7 which allows you to buy the latest maps from tomtom.

Expansys were correct about the delay in the first batch from Taiwan. First shipment is towards end of week 32 and apparently there should not be any further delay. Lets wait and see ....

Inkino are the same company as htcdirect. There VAT numbers are the same.

Just spoke with Expansys UK about their 13th Aug delivery date. The service person I spoke to informed me:
- they expect the date to slip some more
- the latest email advice they received was that delivery would be in the 33rd week (not sure whether they consider 'week 0' to be the one beginning on 31-Dec-07, but if so, that means delivery in w/c 18-Aug-08).
- they apparently have a few hundred orders in the queue - so anyone ordering now would face quite some delay, since their initial delivery from HTC might not be enough to fill all the orders they already have.

So not a lot of hard information, but every reason to expect a bit more of a wait before I get my hands on a shiny new Pro :(

For Germany,

Handit.de has updated the availiability date - according to their homepage, HTC sent an information on July 30 that the device HTC Touch Pro will be available on or after September 3. That's quite late, too bad ... The price (as of today) is € 562 + VAT (19 %).

Cheers,

it would be interesting to know when people actually placed their orders and when they received their device as this would give some sort of indication on the queues.

I placed my original order with expansys on 6th June, hopefully that means I might be one of the first to receive the device

I checked back on their site again before I went to work this morning and it had no date, and said temporarily out of stock. Just checked it again now after coming home from work and they have changed it to 7th August just as you said!

This waiting is killing me - the battery on my Hermes is knackered and is only lasting about 12 hours on one charge  but it's not worth me buying a new battery when my shiny new Raphael is due to arrive so soon - hopefully! And before anyone suggests it, I've tried all different combinations of Roms and Radio versions, it's definitely just a simple case of worn out battery I'm afraid!

Yep had the same thing with my TyTN, the battery seemed to seriously lose its potency after about a year and a half. Invested in a 1500mAh badboy, i still intend on using the hermes alongside (wanna get some developing done, i cna do VGA and QVGA now once ive got the Raph).

I've updated more dates and prices on the wiki. Check it out.

A few vendors have pushed the dates out by a week or 2. It's now averaging out to be realistic release date of Monday 18th. A least here in Europe anyways. Some vendors might take orders before the weekend ( of 15th) though.

I do not know if Handit sells other devices than the German "QWERTZ" keyboard layout, tough (even if this is a joke with HTC devices, as they are missing the German umlaute like "äöüß").

Latest info from german and austrian T-Mobile (05.08.08 10:15) for end-customers: the Vario 4 will be delayed until calendar week 38 (15th September - 19th September)... non-official reason is "problems with negative software tests"... i guess its just a logistical problem like they had with the kaisers and wizards :-)

There's probably a way to do it by holding down certain buttons and pressing the reset pin with the stylus like on the Hermes & Kaiser - but if you can't do it that way try going to start/settings/system/clear storage (if it's there) that should do the trick hopefully!

I just talked to a responsible person at O2 Germany and he told me that the Xda Diamond Pro will not be available within the next 4 weeks, but is expected pretty soon after that. Not much information, yet enough to know that we still have to wait quite a while. I wonder if the unbranded HTC Touch pro will be released a bit earlier than the T-Mobile and O2 devices. Who knows?

C'mon, man ... the Android phone has not even been announced yet, everything about this phone is just rumour. The software developing tools seem to be quite unstable and we do not know whether there is already hardware running this OS except for design studies. The Raphael is a real device. So is Windows Mobile, even though one may think it is slow, crappy, not hip and not flexible ...

I'm just getting really frustrated. I want to upgrade and I want the touch pro and T-mobile are taking ages. They even announced the phone before HTC it should be out by now.

What I meant about waiting for an android phone is that it is still on course for the end of the year based on the announcement from HTC. But I'm guessing from your comments a windows mobile would be better.

it's nothing unusual though is it. Thousands of companies advertise stuff that is "coming soon" just to build the hype up....but rarely does anything get delivered on the first advertised date.

There are a number of people that were about to buy the iphone, but then heard that in only one month the Raphael would be available, so they thought, why not wait...of course, now they wish they had bought the iphone..at least then they would have a phone. I myself considered buying the diamond, but since the Raphael was going to be avialble at the beginning of August I thought I'd wait....now it looks like I'll be waiting until september.

StaticPlaya
6th August 2008, 05:37 PM

Not that it bothers me cos I won't need it unless I go on holiday, but I've noticed a lot of sites including Vodafone UK seem to think the Touch Pro is Tri-band, when HTC say on their own web site that it's quad band.

On the subject of Vodafone, I'm actually quite surprised that they are not rebranding it like T-Mobile and O2 have done, they normally do with HTC devices don't they? or am I wrong again!

Edit: Sorry Mr. Vanx I just realised that this post is kinda off-topic for this thread and probably should have it's own thread :o I would delete it and give it it's own thread myself but I can't seem to find a delete button!

And the normal for fnac is to release a phone a few days or weeks later then the rest of the stores.

Yeah man, thanks a lot. You may be better off, honestly, considering you should be able to flash the AT&T ROM onto your phone and keep the specs (and the front camera). No specs available for this phone yet, I'm HOPING the RAM is the same (as well as GPS, G-force sensor, etc). I can always resell it if it has something gay like the accelerometer removed (rumors say that's what Verizon is doing).

That's the Euro version, and it's a preorder. When the device comes out, he'll order it and have it sent to you. Won't work with 3G in the US, either.

Hi everyone!
I've just preordered a Touch Pro!
The company says in stock 15'th of August here in Sweden. I ordered it with a contract, 24 month, €32/month and you can talk/sms/mms it all up and the phone than costs about €308. So, when moving my number from one operator to anoyher I might be in for a week of waiting.

Did you order a Swedish one or is it with an English/QWERTY rom/layout?

I'm not really sure, since I order from a Swedish shop I want to believe it's a Swedish modell, as up to now I don't know if there'll be a specific "swedish qwerty". On the contrary I hope it comes with a Swedish rom.

I'll let u know when I get it, but I'm counting with a week so I hope it shows up in the middle of week 34...

That's good news, is it?? :D

there's far too many 'guesses' and speculations about when it's going to be in stock with all the stores. I stopped bothering to look now, it will turn up when it turns up.

Just called up Expansys UK. Spoke to a lady who told me that even though the website says est. availibility in 2 days, the shipment will be coming into the UK only by next Monday or Tuesday. So no chance of getting hold of one before that.

Thats in line with the finnish importer. When they said week 34. Actually one of their many names is HTC Finland, I guess they are the finnish department of the company. So we better trust them. Next week it is! :)

Hrm, I am quite keen on the Touch Pro, I currently have a Kaiser. But I've been thinking...is it that much better than the Kaiser? Is it worth jumping so soon?

I remember when the Hermes landed, I picked one up pretty much on the day they were available but had problems with it, I had to ahve it replaced twice and then ended up getting a refund and subsequently an M3100.

I cant decide whether to jump on the Touch Pro or to wait it out a little while...

surprising that a smaller company like clove can get something that a large company like expansys can't!!

ardsar
12th August 2008, 01:56 PM
clove is based in dorset - where the HTC base is. Handtec are based in petersborough and they have stock - just depends on the courier i guess. Expansys in my opinion dont know if they are comming or going. The tech support guy was stating end of month delivery!!!

I wonder if Expansys got into trouble for selling Asian stock as UK and hence are last in line for deliveries this time around?

What does US run at? 850/1900 or something? In Australia we have both, our main telco provider runs at 850/1900 but all the other providers run at 900/2100. I think the Touch Pro hardware can support both frequency sets so with any luck a custom rom will allow you to use any version.
