View Full Version : Using Alternative Headphones With The Diamond

I have seen a few posts where people say they are using their own headphones with the HTC touch diamond. I have a great set of Bose headphones I bought a while ago. What do I need to buy to be able to use these with the phone, just to listen to my MP3's not the radio obviously.
Thanks,
Roy.

You can buy the RC E100 or a ExtUSB to 3.5mm adapter.
I'm using the RC E100 - it's really good. Although, the cable is very long and then add your headphone length to that and you end up with a VERY long cable.
So I cut mine, resoldered the wires, and then used heat shrink to make it all look nice. Happy camper now. ;)
It took hours and did my head in though.

Thanks the RC E100 sounds good, I checked it out on EBay but they are only shipping from Hong Kong (I'm UK) and I dont fancy that. Where abouts did you pick yours up?

Do you use it on the diamond? Is it working properly (music controls especially)? I'm asking, because it's not listed as compatible accessory on htc.com.

I use it, i bought it from Expansys for about £23 with a £10 off voucher. Just buy one of the Kaiser or Touch ones, theyre all the same item just under a different name on the website.
It works fine, i have some sony earphones that are meant ot be used with a remote so they have a really short lead so they work great with this. You can just leave your diamond in your pocket in standby and listen to music using the controls on the remote.

LOL I have some Sony's that I had to cut and resolder, otherwise they whole thing was way too long. I ended up shortening the cable on the RC E100 too. That was difficult!
I'm very happy with the purchase though and using that plus some good headphones makes the diamond sound really good.

hi guys, i have a question about the rc e100 remote. if you are listening to music with it and the diamond is asleep (ie. screen is off). does adjusting the volume or changing tracks or whatever wake the screen up? for me this will be decider whether i get one or not.

Im glad to tell you no it does not wake the screen up. It acts like a perfect MP3 player, if you turn off the screen and then push buttons on the remote the device will look like nothing happened and the sceen will stay off while still respoding to button pushes.

My RC E100 remote arrived couple days ago and I'm using it with my nice Bose earphones. Have to say it works a treat, once I sorted out the bug with the Audio Booster, well just turned the dam thing off. "MAKE SURE YOU DON'T USE THE AUDIO BOOSTER" it's shit but i'm sure you knew that anyways.
I'm going to shorten the cable on the actual remote, plan to do that tomorrow (should be interesting!).
The only other things I'd like to do is maybe install that SRS WOW program, maybe then I can mess around with the music settings, but I've read this isn't working yet with the Diamond, anyone know another music equalizer I can install?
Oh and lastly I spent ages putting what music I wanted onto the internal memory of the phone. Making sure all the tracks we're under the correct artist and album etc. Problem is even tho through the phones explorer shows them as they should be, when looking through windows media player library only a handfull of the tracks are sorted into correct folders. I'e most of the tracks are just under "unknown" this is fairly useless as how am i meant to search for an album by a certain artist? Why aren't they all set-up the way they are in explorer mode? This is frustrating as it means 80% of my music is simply stored under unkonwn artist and then track name!
Anyone come across this on their hanset and knows a way around it?
Thanks guys, Roy.

speaking of mp3 playback, has anyone noticed that every 5 to 10 minutes or so, sound will skip or pause just for a split second. for me this happens on both the audio manager and on CorePlayer. it has also happened with the stock ROM my phone came with (1.34) and the current cooked ROM i am using. would appreciate it if someone knows a solution to this problem, i hope it's not because of the AudioBooster. as the Diamonds volume output is pissweak without it.
oh and Roy, i think the bug with audio booster, where there is a complete lack of bass and sound is all tinny like. was solved in 1.93 ROM.

Hi, can't say I've noticed the skipping part. But maybe I haven't listened to anything long enough, i'll keep my ears open.
Basically yeah to fix the audio booster thing which I had originally turned on while listening to the radio. All I did which I read on here was to turn on mp3 player and start listening. Goto audio booster and turn it off, then on and then off again and save. This as I know it disables the bug from the audio booster and it now sounds ace. Woule like to install a proper music equalizer if I can find one.
I hear all this stuff and have seen loads of threads about it but what actually is upgrading my ROM? Why would I want to change it? I have installed various Diamond Tweaks and Advance Configs etc to speed up performance and mess about with a few settings to suit my tastes.
Why would i want to install a new ROM?
Roy.

Yep it seems to be finally fixed. Now it is a proper (and pretty darn good!) mp3 player.

ljames28 is right, they just list every model under the sun the remote is compatible with. I didn't realise until I'd ordered the 'HTC T-Mobile' version that there were so many 'different' listings.
Just got a mail today confirming they have shipped my order ...but it's on a damn slow plane and I wont see it for at least a week! :( Won't ebay my iPod just yet then :P

I'm thinking of buying this adaptor:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/diamond-Headphone-Adaptor-connectors-headphones/dp/B001BMSX64It nice, small and cheap - but only for using headphones (there is no microphone). The E100 lets you use your phone handsfree (and look stupid when you apparently speak to yourself).

Yes!
This is annoying the crap out of me. I've tried:
1) A variety of sw players: WMP, GSPlayer, TCPMP, PocketMusic, same problem.
2) Upping buffer settings and similar on all these players to max, no luck (even buffering the entire song before playback didn't do anything)
3) Flashing my ROM from 1.37 to 1.93 (official), same behaviour.
4) Switching my Diamond to flight mode in case WiFi/Edge/3G connections were messing up.
5) Closing all other applications (of course)
It's absolutely driving me up the walls, I'm getting skipping in my audio every 3-4 minutes or so. I haven't even used audiobooster at all, sound is crazy loud without it. Maybe it's just enabled by default?

I'm not sure what you mean about 'enabled by default' but the skip certainly is enabled by default ;) it has been around since day dot and there are other threads about it all over xda-dev... Personally I think it has gotten better since 1.3x to 1.93, in other words, you hear it less often but it is definitely still there and should be something that can be fixed... It annoys the shit out of me too... Doesn't seem to be (3rd party) software related, so cross fingers next firmware sorts it out.

I tried buying one of these units:
E100 StereoHeadset audio control Headphone adapter HTC touch diamond 3.5mm Stereo
[model-35277] (http://www.order-bulk.com/New.Arrival/E100.StereoHeadset.audio.control.Headphone.adapter .HTC.touch.diamond.3.5mm.Stereo/)
Available Options:
Insurance: Yes ($6.99)
Upgrade to Registered Mail: Yes ($4.99)
That is the only option in the drop down menu (Yes).
Hence the total cost ends up being: USD$21.97
Is this a flaw or are insurance and registered mail a condition of purchase from them?

For all of you that ordered the remote from Order-Bulk, I just received mine today! It arrived 14 days from ordering which is fair enough considering how cheep it was ;)
All controls works perfectly with TF3D and audio from the device is much improved now that I can attach some decent earphones. No need for that audio booster anymore! The only really tiny niggle is that it's dopod branded for some bizarre reason, although the clip is still HTC stamped.
Anyway the main reason for the post is to reassure those that have ordered one and not received it yet.
Cheers.

Does yours do the volume change in 3 steps at a time? With myn I can't get it down to 1 bar, only 0bar and 3bars. With my earphones they're the in ear type that seal around your ears so 3bars (out of about 20) is actually still quite loud. Annoyingly the only way to get a volume of 1 or 2 is to take the phone out my pocket, press a volume button, and manually drag the slider with my thumb, really quite annoying.

Yes the volume up/down work the same as the buttons on the phone so it jumps 3 bars each press. Only five volume settings then
Had a quick search and couldn't find anything. Maybe worth starting a thread. I'd be interested to see if this can be adjusted.

I just had a look in the registry, did a search for volume, found a fair amount of keys, I didn't find anything interesting I'm afraid. Would you like to start a topic? :)
Edit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2382769&postcount=31
Someone with the same issue, using a different player helped, but thats probably because theyre mapping the buttons and telling it 1 button press = change volume 1 step.
