View Full Version : [29th July] Stock MDA had 4 columns of icons! See attachment

Hi Guys,

I searched high and low for an answer to this, so forgive me is there is an answer or is in a previous thread, but:-

I have only 3 columns of larger Icons in both settings and programs, whereas under the T-Mobile MDA Stock rom, there were 4 extremely crisp and sharp columns of icons. Still useable with the finger and easily selected without the need to use the pen.

I've tried Elite 3.0 and SwiftBL 3.0 & 3.2

If there is a setting I am missing, please bear in mind I'm new to WM after years of Symbian.

See attached picture from a friends uncooked MDA Compact IV

Interesting ... and never seen that on WM !

I've got a customer/Friend who's had 3 T-Mobile MDA's delivered yesterday and he's bringing round later for me to install cooked roms.

I'll take a picture of the T-Mobile screen to show (and try and explain clearly) what I mean. The T-mobile rom based on 1.37 is dire, dreadfully slow, but the 4 columns of icons looks great as opposed to all cooked roms I have installed with only 3columns and larger less crisp icons.

Can I ask? Is anyone still running a stock HTC Diamond Rom?

Does the Stock rom have smaller icons and 4 columns, or the same as the cooked roms.

Riel

No, it doesn't ...

Paleaos
24th July 2008, 11:22 AM
So this looks like T-Mobiles stock rom has been written to provide the icons smaller and in a higher resolution. I must take a picture for you guys later, as it does look great and as I said, still useable and without the need to use the pen.

I wonder if this can be hacked in the registry, or one of the rom cookers could take a look at the T-mobile rom to try to incorporate this into the cooked roms?

Paleaos
29th July 2008, 03:05 PM
I've now attached a photo to the 1st post to show you guys exactly what I mean and to see if someone can find an answer to this or whether it canbe incorporated into cooked roms.

Looks like the icons are the same size but the spacing is just less.

29th July 2008, 04:30 PM
yep I agree, the hbar size is the standard (13) ?

Paleaos
29th July 2008, 04:35 PM
Hi Guys, yes I've just checked, the Icons are exactly the same size on both phones, but on the T-mobile phone with the 4 colums, the font size is smaller (same font)and yes agree the spacing is less between the icons, probably caused by the smaller font

When you rotate to landscape mode U´ll also have 4 icons in the row;):D

Has anyone figured out why this works on some roms but not others?

I first saw it on one of tom's roms and want to try it on my stock raphael, but on joy.

Tried the cab and the reg file and confirmed the reg entries were there, but still only 3 columns.

Any help would be appriciated, ta.

This is/was nice - but, I've decided I'd like to go back to the original values - as implementing this registry hack *also* changed the size of my Title Bar (the one with the "Start Menu" on it.

Does anyone know or can you look at and PM or email me with the original "Dec Value" settings on the Sprint Touch Pro?

I also thought it wasn't working, but turns out it modifies the display when you use Start, Programs, not the TouchFlo Programs screen (I'm a silly bunt). Start,Programs and Start,Settings both now display in 4 icon wide - very nice.

Anyone know if there is a way to make TouchFlo Programs 4 icons wide?

Nice stuff... Been playing around a little and found out "IconTitleFontSize" Dec value="7" looks optimal on the Diamond.
Note: 7 instead of 6.

6 is to small which makes the icon fonts looks fuzzy and 8 is to large...

Give it a try ;)

I have PHM registry editor installed. When I click on .reg file it just opens the editor without changes in registry. I uninstalled reg editor - windows says that there's no aplicaiton to open this file format. :/

there any way to do this in the programs tab? I know you can add and delete rows, but can you add columns?

also, the "all programs" softkey under the programs tab, its just a one column list, and takes quite awile to scroll through when you have a lot of programs...

I have tried manually, the zip and the cab files, but nothing works!

I am not extly sure doing the manual way. You guys talk about HKLM\Softwa...., but when I open Kilmist, it has 3 "folders" one under another.
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
HKEY_CURRENT_USER
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE

I found "Software", "Microsoft", "Shell". After highlighting "Shell", I clicked "Registry" then "New Key". In the value box I typed "IconConfig" and then "OK". I now have the IconConfig in the Shell folder. Here's where I start having problems. I highlight "IconConfig", click "Registry" and then "String Value". I now have a box with "Value" and a box with "Data". I don't know what, to put where. I have also tried to click "Multi String Value" and then I get a box with "value", but now I get a larger box with "Data".

I am a noob, so if it's not that easy to explain, I can live without the 4 rows.

The device in question is the HTC Touch Pro, running the latest Rom from HTC, 5.05.421.1 WWE, dated 03/04/09

I know thread is dead so it's a longshot but I still want to figure this out.

The cab works great for me BUT, I've also assigned one of my soft keys to the 'folderview.exe' so I can launch the programs folder without having to press the start button.
Problem is that if I press start/programs I get four icons in a row no problem but if I press my newly softkey which also launches the programs folder it reverts back to the stock 3 icons in a row. Shouldn't those two be the same? I would Love to be able to get this working right.

Anyone have any idea on what to do to fix this? Yes, I've soft reset. Any help much appreciated.

It works on my Treo Pro after a soft reset (Windows Mobile 6.1). Given the screen resolution of this device, I went for a 4 x 3 grid using the following values:

IconTitleFontSize: 7
HorizontalIconSpacing: 75
VerticalIconSpacing: 86

This is much better but what I have really been looking for is a way to switch (the Programs & Settings) to list view. I keep thinking this has to be possible. The following post talks about a utility to perform this change on some Motorola device (which I assume is based on Windows Mobile):

http://www.hellomotoq.com/forums/front-page-content/6-icon-list-view-windows-mobile-5-0-smartphones.html

I also found this thread explaining a solution, but nothing changes on my Treo Pro:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386960

It tried with both 0 & 1 values under GridView

I am in doubt whether the name of the key is actually ":M SStart" as stated or ":MSStart".

List view would be lovely, anyone knows how to do it?
