hi

I recently got a P3300 & it has windows mobile 6 professional on it. The problem that I'm facing is that when I press the power button once to put phone in sleep mode, & if the phone stays that way for sometime(2-3 hours, not definite, sometimes even 1 hour) & then when I press the button again to bring it back from sleep mode, it doesn't come back, the screen remains blank. This problem is not persistent, it just comes unexpectedly now & then. The GMS signal LED continues to blink meaning that the phone is ON but remains in sleep mode. I then have to take the battery out to reboot it.

At night when I go to sleep, I put the phone to sleep mode as well & it comes back in 1 press of button in morning, its just something wierd that the problem occurs without any regularity.

I called HTC customer care & the guy there suggested that I format the phone once & this problem should be solved then. The method he suggested was to click on "clear storage" option in the settings. Should I go ahead & do it? I dont mind doing it if it solves the problem, just dont want the unnecessary hassle if this is not gonna solve the problem since I'll have to customise settings & install software etc all over again.

Or should I claim warranty on the handset? Its not even 1 month old.

Please advise, this is my first windows mobile device so I dont have any experience with these before.

Well i have not heard of this problem before

ur phone only able to sleep properly in the night..:D

Well if it is less than one month old then the best thing is to claim the warranty.

And I am not sure about this but clear storage might erase your complete data..

Better take a backup before you try that

Earlier it was not sleeping at night as well, but last week it started doing it, somehow, I dunno how that happened!

Yeah ofcourse I'll take backup. I've backed up all of my card, before doing the format I'll backup my messages etc via a free PIM software that I came across earlier. :)

I remember i had a similar problem time ago with my S200. Some program that i installed messed with my backlight configuration and just turned the backlight off when i tried to wake up the phone...just my two cents :)

I had the Standby of Death SOD this is when the phone fails to come out of standby with a power button press. This issue only affects some people on some networks. I'm not sure if its a network problem or a software problem but as only a minority of people have it, I suspect its mainly a network problem there is a software solution.

The solution is to change the phone settings band option from auto 3G/2G to either 3G Only (WCDMA + UTMS 2100 in Europe) or 2G Only (GSM + AUTO) depending on your requirements.

Also read this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=540943&highlight=standby&page=2where the resolution was to get a new SIM.

Obviously this only solves the problem when the crash is because of the sim and/or settings which impact the sim. To rule out a software cause its best to start with a hard reset.

Actually my problem got solved with a hard reset. I had called HTC customer care & the guy told me that I should do a hard reset & that will cure the problem & it indeed fixed it. :)

Well I guess you only had it because of a software problem, likewise I only had it because of a sim/radio/network problem and it didn't go away with a hard reset. The only thing that did resolve it was to change the phone band settings as above. As I pointed out above the best way to rule out a software cause is to do a hard reset.
