How to change Japanese Softbank Hermes to English?

I just got a Japanese Softbank Hermes X01HT phone, which had just had a storage wipe when I received it (had to do windows setup etc). However, when I plug it into USB on my computer and activesync starts, it asks for a passcode it looks like, on the screen. If I hit the hang up button, it wont go away, so it must be asking for an unlock of some kind? Either way, it blocks me from seeing the Accept thing for upgrading the HardSPL and operating system. The only way I have found to get rid of this passcode screen is to soft-reset. Anyone know what this could mean? I can take a picture of it, and post it, if anyone can read Japanese. The first part of the message says USIM, the rest are Japanese characters.

I've read the articles now on how to convert, but they don't help me with this message on the screen.

This article helped, I had to put SSPL-HERM.exe on the phone and then reset and run it before the lock message popped up.

This also unlocked the phone, and converted it to English.
