View Full Version : Co Pilot maps not visible after ROM upgrade??

Not sure if I'm doing something wrong here but after the 6.1 ROM upgrade I installed Co-Pilot again, running the lot from the desktop Central programme (makiing a point of deleting anything 2577 or Co-Pilot related on the storage card). Only thing I changed this time is that I installed the programme on the device and the map on the card. I got messages saying installs were successful.

Now though, when I launch Co-Pilot I get now map, just a white screen where map detail should be. I'm wondering if it's something to do with configuration or whether the split install is something it can't handle. Must say I'm not too impressed with this software overall and I find the Central desktop application abysmal. I'll have another couple of attempts but if I cannot install it the way I WANT IT to install I think I'll consign it to the scrap heap and get a dedicated sat nav for nav purposes. Wasn't the main reason I got the TyTn, given the problems I'm glad!!!!! I would have thought it quite reasonable that someone installing maps would wish to do so on their card rather than the device (given the size) and also reasonable that for speed of access to the system they'd put the programme on the device.

None of this is helped by the user documentation which is also pretty dire, esp when it comes to trouble shooting!!!!

Well after wasting hours messing around with this I have finally got it working but I can only get it to work with the map loaded to the device along with the programme. Must say that if this is supoosed to lead the way in terms of PDA sat nav I dread to think what the rest are like!!!! Apart from the fact that it refuses to recognise the map if not loaded to the device (regardless of how complete the uninstall, deletion of folders and re-booting etc) I have also tried to upload the other voices etc and regardless of what I try the device will not recognise they are there.

For me a truly awful application and the desktop application is worse!! I constantly get the message saying "alk.copilot.updater has stopped working", even after upgrading Central to the lastest version (and even that was an exercise in scouring the internet and rummaging for information). I'm really glad that sat nav/GPS was not a primary motivator for buying the TyTn. Maybe others work better on it??

Once I return to the UK I shall buy a dedicated sat nav and rip this Co-Pilot garbage out of my PDA and consign it to where it belongs. There are sat navs and sat navs and for me Co-Pilot is one that I would not give the time of day to.

Hi

You seem a bit stressed over copilot.

I have this working very well with wm6.1 on the kaiser.

I do not know how you have installed it and how you got any maps on to device most maps are over 100meg.

Can I suggest you remove copilot and reinstall to card only using a card reader and not using device connected to pc.

Over all I have found copilot to better in most areas over tomtom except poi handling, certainly the on screen information is better and gps lock is faster.

The above comment apply to CoPilot 7 live.

Mike

I certainly bleedin have ;-)

Ended up with both installed to device (using Abu Dhabi map only, maybe it's smaller). I may try stripping out and putting both the app and the map on the card. Works OK now with both on device but once I get any other maps to put on (but not likely at mo) I will struggle with storage on the device. I would have thought the programme would/could go on device and map(s) on the card. Seems not.

Co-Pilot Central seems a SHED load more of a problem than it's worth.

Well, having tried and tried I'm about to give up the ghost with CoPilot.

Only thing I have NOT yet tried as has been suggested is installing CoPilot to my card using a reader. I assume that once you have Co-Pilot Central installed on a PC there is some option to select that allows you to do this??

Essentially I have stripped Co-Pilot out of the TyTn. Hard Reset and deleted anything Co-Pilot from the SD card. I even uninstalled the awful desktop Central, deleted all folders and cleared the PC Registry. Having re-installed Central I then hooked up the device and chose option to install Co-Pilot Live. I chose the Storage card as location. After a successful install message I downloaded the map via the website having started Co-Pilot on the device and follwed the instructions. I installed THAT to the card to. Net result, open Co-Pilot, get 'Enjoy your map' message and, hep presto blank map!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Really is the most outstandingly crap software I have EVER come across. Not as if I'm trying some convoluted set-up or anything. Simply following the instructions and prompts. Time to scrap it I think!!!!!

Well. I give up. Unless I install BOTH on the device I CANNOT get the map/roads to show up in CoPilot.

Having mailed ALK customer support twice on this and got no reply (despite the 'We'll get back to you by end of next working day') I can only conclude the customer support is as poor as the website and the software. Time to put disc in bin!!!!

I have a log open at ALK support now in relation to this, having contacted them by another route. If I get a response that gets this to work I will post it here. Below is a fuller update of the processes I am going through to TRY and get this to work with BOTH installed on the Storage Card, just in case others come across this having searched re the same problem. I did LOADS of searches in all manner of engines and all manner of terms related to the problem but got no direct matches anywhere:

Systems information:

HTC branded TyTn II, Windows Mobile 6.1

SanDisk 8GB Micro SD card (not used in any other device)

CoPilot CD (free with TyTn II) - loads version 0.5.59.2 of CoPilot Central. After upgrade on device is complete version 7.0.2.258 of Live is installed

Windows Vista Business (SP1)

Procedure Followed (nothing else having worked!!!!):

1. Installed CoPilot Central to PC. Once loaded, open CoPilot Central (selecting upgrade later) under 'Plan Route' select Middle East map region (currently in UAE with work).

2. Engaged 'Flight' mode on phone to turn off potential interruption. Connect device to PC by USB. Installed CoPilot live when prompted to SD card.

3. Could not download maps at this time - kept getting device not recognised message.

4. Left device connected to PC. PC eventually indicated 'An update for CoPilot Live is available - do you want to update'. Selected "Yes".

5. Downloaded the update, it was updated to the device and it created a 2577 (auto run) folder on SD card.

6. Uninstalled current (OLD) Co-Pilot Live from device and delete ALL Co-Pilot related folders on card and device (root directory and Programs - if any).

7. Soft reset device.

8. Turn device back on. Took out and re-inserted SD card, prompted install of CoPilot Live.

9. Install CoPilot Live again to SD Card. This was a personal choice as I did not want the app or its maps on the device (too much space), esp as some maps are large.

10. Soft reset device.

11. Connect device to PC by USB to get internet connection. Followed on screen instructions (got several messages - "Invalid Device - Please refer to provider" at this stage but EVENTUALLY go site to allow me to download!!!). Saved download to 'My Documents' on device and checked 'Open file once downloaded'.

12. Followed install instructions and install map to SD Card also.

13. Soft reset device.

14 Open CoPilot Live on device. Hey Presto - NO MAP!!!! All I get is a blank screen with a couple of POIs indicating Mosques in god knows where!!!!!!!

Despite this massively convoluted process I STILL cannot get CoPilot to work and show its maps on a storage card installation from the computer based CD which came with the TyTn II. Later I uninstalled both from the SD card and re-installed both to the device and the map shows up????????????

Perhaps understandably I am about to give up and buy a dedicated Sat Nav!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI, dear Empgamer,
Me too have same problems with the HTC TyTn II, windows 6.0 still because 6.1 has too many complaints. Therefore I did not instal. I got co-pilot DVD instanlled on PC. Got one Free city map as my choice but unfortunatley did not work. I have tried many times the same way as mentioned above on this forum wihtout any success. No map . Blank Screen although copilot seems working and displaying stupid options like I am going to fly to Mars.
Surprisingly no words from HTC nor from Copilot.

Hi

What version of Copilot are you trying to install,

If you have the dvd install using a card reader its faster and will not be interupted.

I have it working flawlessly om my kaiser with Duttys rom

Hi both

I am using the HTC stock 6.1 ROM as I am quite happy with that, it works fine on my device and I have the new video driver cab installed too.

Strangely I CAN get CoPilot to work fine if BOTH programme and map are installed on the device. Trying the below does NOT work:

1) Programme on device, map on SD card

2) Programme and map on SD card

I have an open question on ALK tech support site regarding this and will wait a response. I have to say I have neither the time or inclination to mess about with this any more having wasted HOURS installing, re-installing, soft and hard re-setting, installing and updating etc. All to no avail. Either I will find eventually how to get both working from an SD card or I will eventually uninstall CoPilot, bin it, and buy a stand-alone sat nav system.

I didn't really buy the device as a sat nav anyway so it's no big deal but it would be nice to be able to get it to work. I cannot see what is so complex or unorthodox about what I am trying to do. I do have a card reader but my CoPilot came on a CD and when CoPilot Central (abysmal software) installs I can see no option anywhere to get it to interface with a storage card reader either directly or by way of a wizard. See above re version numbers.
