As some of you know, I am currently working on a touch user interface (since more than 10 months), fully compatible with HTC Diamond, it even takes advantage of G-sensor and touch-sensitive control pad, and I plan to develop a 3D user interface in a future version.

I will prepare soon a private beta, and if there is no major issue I would like to release a first public version in about 2 weeks. But please don’t take too much into consideration this date, be aware that contrary to other ROM cookers who only take programs from other ROMs I have developed the whole user interface from scratch, so it’s a really huge work (more than 1000 hours at the moment) and it’s hard to fix a release date.

As for other devices, Diamond ROMs will be multilingual and available in two versions: Full (with TouchXperience User Interface) and Lite (maximal storage space).

I am looking for some motivated and experienced people to participate to this private beta. I need only about 20 people so I will choose first people who could really help me, better is if you have WM cooking or development knowledges. I don’t want to get thousands of messages asking “please please send me the ROM” like it was in the other threads, so please don’t ask me to participate if you don’t have solid arguments. If you are interested, let me a post here (explaining in what you are good, if I don’t know you) and I will contact you later by PM if you are selected.

More info about TouchXperience User Interface and video demos:
http://www.touchxperience.com/ (http://www.touchxperience.com/)

TouchXperience is the Next Generation User Interface for Windows Mobile, finger friendly and highly customizable, it offers many interesting features: program launcher, contacts manager, home screen, appointments, messaging, task manager, profile and event manager, call log, control panel, communication manager,...

TouchMenu is probably the most powerful and customizable menu, replacing original Start Menu for an innovative touch interface. TouchMenu supports finger scrolling and gestures, for example you can switch from a menu to another by sliding your finger left/right, or display context menu by a long press on the screen. You can also scroll menus using G-sensor. Each menu has four different views (large list, small list, large grid, small grid). As the rest of the future user interface, TouchMenu has a nice Vista/WM7 look.
TouchMenu has various built-in menus :
- All Programs (Start Menu replacement)
- Active Programs (Task Manager)
- Recent programs
- Favorite programs
- Settings (Control Panel)
- Documents
- Favorite websites
- Contacts
- Messaging
- Appointments
- Tasks
- Calls (Call Log)
- Communications (Comm. Manager)
- RSS feeds
- Power Actions
- End Actions
- One Touch Settings
But you can do much more by creating your own custom menus where you can add contacts, program shortcuts, website links, system actions (for example: reset device, rotate screen, sound profile, clock, brightness backlight, WMP status,...) or links to other menus. You can also replace icon for each program/folder/contacts/menu with a custom image.
TouchHome is a fully customizable screen where you can add various widgets and graphical elements (clocks, indicators, today items, texts, images,...). By default, TouchHome displays when you turn your phone on. You can make your own graphics and layout using XML. TouchHome can be also used as screen unlocker (unlock screen by sliding finger, by double tapping, by shaking device, using navigation scroll wheel,...).
Use GPS or cell-based geo-positioning to determine current location and create profiles for each location.
Custom Events is a powerful application which execute predefined actions when custom events occur. The principle is simple, each custom event is defined by:
- A basic event (application changed, location changed, new message, new incoming call, battery charging, device cradled, headset connected, Wi-Fi network detected, internet connection detected, ,...)
- Eventually some conditions (date/time, current application, current location, specific words in message, caller identity,...)
- An action (launch application, display notification, enable flight mode, turn on Wi-Fi, change profile, send message, ,...)
There will be hundreds of events and actions, so possibilities are very large! Here are some examples:
- Enable flight mode during nights
- Connect to Wi-Fi while battery is charging
- Deactivate alarm when I turn my device face down
- Put phone in silent mode at workplace
- Remind me to buy bread when I’m near to the bakery
Supports finger gestures on touch-sensitive control pad (experimental, for HTC Touch Diamond/Touch Pro only) to execute different system actions, in this way you can have up to 8 “virtual buttons” on your device.
Supports display auto-rotation navigation using G-sensor (experimental, for HTC Touch Diamond/Touch Pro only).
TouchXperience User Interface is designed for a future usage of hardware accelerated 3D graphics for an outstanding experience!

Hello mate,
I have cooked (mostly my own) ROMs for Elf, Niki and Cruise so I have considerable background on the components of the WM OS and the overall structure of the devices (not so much the Diamond to be honest as I'm still trying to get to understand its internals).

If you like, I would more than willing to help out with Beta testing whether it's to focus on a specific area or just overall testing. I also have experience in QA so I can pick out little things that need ironing out :D

Cheers from Dubai!

WOAH! Schaps, this sounds awesome. I'd be happy to beta test your TouchXperience UI. ;) Coming from an iPhone background, I'd love to see more thumb/finger friendliness in our Diamonds.

EDIT: Checked out the site and the screenshots and it looks fab so far :D !

Couple of questions, would there be a new finger/thumb friendly Calendar app? (I totally despise the stock WM one) Also, do you plan on integrating a more thumb friendly keyboard for input? The standard Diamond one is okay but I tend to be a fast typer and because the screen on the Diamond is relatively small, it is prone to keystroke errors and the Diamond keyboard does not have any type of correction method (i.e. as included with the PCM Keyboard - I use this but a lack of VGA skins is highly disappointing).

All in all I can't wait to test this - I thought the Diamond would have been more thumb/finger friendly but tend to find myself pulling out the dreaded stylus now and then.. Something I hoped I could have gotten away from. Cheers for the great effort Schaps!

P.S.: I will soon work on a new Advanced Config. version fully compatible with Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. Advanced Configuration Tool V3 will come with a new finger-friendly interface.

@ Schaps, could you look into the possibility to add "default mediaplayer chooption" in order to link Bluetooth devices to other players not forcing to use WMP linked with TF3D .
There is a cab out there from RuffRuff (still need to test it) , but including this possible solution in AdvConfig V3 would be a big added value.

As for the Beta testing , it starts to look like recruting for La Legion etrangere :p (The Foreign Legion)
People want but how many can give ?

Anyway, success with the new UI + Rom combination. Looking forward.

Hi Schaps,

I would love to be a beta tester. I don’t have cooking experience, though I am a programmer in real live (mainly C#, little experience with mobile device coding from some years ago) I haven’t had time to get into cooking yet (hopefully I will in the future), but I extensively flash my Diamond with custom ROMs (before that my Polaris and before that my Prophet) and am sure I could give you good feedback and bug descriptions that make sense.

Am happy to see the effort you make by tackling such a big task! Keep it up! ;)

I'm very exited about the product you are developing and I would be happy to donate for such a piece of software which will make my diamond useful.
If it will solve two of mine major problems it would be perfect then:
- battery life (it would be nice if it would resist at least for one day)
- profile switcher with one touch (like PocketZenPhone does)

I hope it will also improve the speed....

I'm not a developer but a manager which would like to use the diamond with all its features... and not to think to switch gprs (while I need a big attachment) on or off because of battery usage.
If I can help in some ways just let me know.

Bye!!

U.

Why should you choose me ?
1. got a Pocket PC since end of 2001... so, I'm not (yet) touchXperienced... but I can say I'm ppcXperienced ;) (I was ppcfaq.net creator & I'm one of the pocketpcfreeware contributor)
2. love to track/report bugs & purpose some feature (if asked)
3. I don't speak really well english... but I'm french, so... ;)
4. I'm not a cooker, as Diamond is my first hTC... but I'm learning, and hope I'll cook my first ROM soon (not specially for release, but personnal cooked ROM)
5. I'M REALLY MOTIVATEDDDDD ^_^

Great news !

since I got my diamond, I've always been trying to find a way to improve the standard UI, testing many different products (pointui, wisbar, winterface, sbp mobile shell), none of which fully satisfied me, but nevertheless gave me an idea of the fantastic possibilities that could be implemented.

Having worked in the video game industry, I've got some experience in Interface design, ergonomics etc., and also software localization (EN, FR, DE).

I'd be glad to participate in the development of your project, be it as a beta tester or later on, as a contributing user.

Bon courage !

Donated some ....
Not asking to be the beta tester ... just do not have time...
But looks you will have enough.

The Idea is great : all in one with nice and friendly UI.
My two cents are : do not try to make ALL in ONE. The one could be too small for all.. Just really necessary things should have the quick access. The best interface is minimal. The "nice-to-have" things will force you to make more flexible (more generic) solution - and it will lead to lack of resources (any of them). After all it's windows. ouch ... it's already dollar ;)

Any way - the idea is BIG!!! Good luck!!!!:D

I saw the videos and have two questions:

1.: Is it right, that you have to touch the middle button to activate scrolling with gsensor?

2.: DOES THE DIAMOND HAVE TWO TOUCHSCREENS??? I saw that you made gestures on the hardware buttons to run applications?! How can we access the second touchscreen?

I'll repeat what this good man said. Even though he's a junior member he seems to have extensive knowledge. (Haven't seen a non junior noob in a while lol) But seriously people. Stop hijacking this thread. Schap wanted beta testers that have some knowledge so they could help develop his nice interface. Not people who just want to go, "Send it to me :D" and then they install and run it happily because they didn't want to wait and forget about Schap like he never existed. Guys. You'll get it when the time's right. Until then, please refrain from posting "I want to beta test!" unless you have a solid reason. I'll admit, I want to beta test too, but since I have no knowledge in anything besides a little programming and some graphichs editing, I wouldn't be much help. Schap want's a person that will be able to help him. So I'd say half the people who said "I want to beta test" are not those people. I'm not flamming you. And a question: :)
How are you planning to release this?
Will there be a cab available, or are you only planning to only release ROMs with the app built in?

Hope to see a public beta soon, but no rush...
Just make sure it's as great as it look snow :D

It seems that most of the people who have posted have ignored schaps post where he asks:

"I don’t want to get thousands of messages asking “please please send me the ROM” like it was in the other threads, so please don’t ask me to participate if you don’t have solid arguments. If you are interested, let me a post here (explaining in what you are good, if I don’t know you) and I will contact you later by PM if you are selected."

I´m sure, Schap will ignore this kind of people. Absolute useless for him.

To answer people's questions. I think from what I gather (and a little common sense lol) Schap wil probably release a public rom after he finds testers, they download and use, report back, and he does some modding and then hopefully. Or we can go straight to public beta, but I don't think that would go well. But he has planned this for a very long time so I'm sure Schap will make no mistake. I see a great future in his work. Maybe he'll make a commerical version and become rich :D

I'm more into graphical design, but would love to test the ROM through heavy usage, I spend a few hours a day going through the diamond, it's apps, applying the new ROMs, and going through the usage with 3rd party apps. I spend a lot of time using the Diamond daily, I can go through it in great detail and provide solid "user" feedback finding bugs, and detailed use info. Just the need the chance to be involved to further my cooking abilities.

Private betatesters should get the first beta during the following 10 days (if all is alright), then public beta should be released shortly, depending on feedback and reported issues.

Be aware that first beta versions may be different from the one I introduced on videos, some functionalities are still under development and some new feature will be added. For example I added a nice battery/memory meter on top of the screen, led notifications customization on Diamond, and vibration feedback.

http://i38.tinypic.com/6fo0ue.png

TouchXperience should be 100% free (in the past I hesitated to make a commercial product so you can see I'm not doing it for money!) but all the time I invest in this project has a price, so I plan to support and continue development of my UI as long as I get donations for it. I would like to thank people who already donated! :)

This may be interesting, but TouchXperience UI is deeply integrated in system and is designed for HTC hardware, that's why it is restricted to some devices at the moment and why it is integrated into ROMs especially optimized for TouchXperience. But I hope to support more devices in the future and I would gladly do it if I can get an hand on Omnia.

Hi Schaps!

I know that you don't have a lot of time to read some stupid posts like mine for single requests... but anyway... for me a very important thing is to have a profile switcher at one touch like PocketZenPhone integrated (it defines all the sounds, vibrating, bluetooth on/off, etc.). It is very important for users like me (managers) who needs to change profiles very often and just with one touch.
I'll persuade some managers to donate to you for this software if you do so :)
I'll start donating first :)

one of the best things about this is that you have not replaced TF3D with your UI, but you have incorporated both and have pretty much removed the need to go anywhere near the plain, boring and absolutely non-finger/thumb friendly WinMo UI. You truly understand usability and user-friendliness methodologies. Big ups for you mate *thumbs up* Waiting very eagerly to test this badboy.

I have a blue one in the form of a .tsk file but I can probably troll around looking for a black one. Let me know if you'd like a blue one for variety and I can upload it here in an attachment.

EDIT: attached are glossy variants in grey [closest I could find to black w/out tweaking] and blue..

EDIT 2: attached another zip with glossy black tsk (which is really grey) and a executable file which will turn your bars into REAL glossy black. Just copy and paste the tsk file into my documents/windows folder and run the .exe file from wherever you like from within your device. credits go to ericc191 of xda-devs.

This is functionality of Schap's TouchXperience UI.. cannot be done out-of-the-box with the Diamond. I'm assuming it is the home lock-screen, because when he does a 360 degree spin using the virtual scroll-wheel, it unlocks.

HTC will definately get jealous of this thing, I think they will offer you to sell this app to them.

Whatever Schap's has between himself and HTC is his business. ROM's like his always stands up on their own.

Having been a Schap's exclusive user for a few years now, being stuck with AT&T rom (only kidding) would love to give your new version a whirl which we all know will be the REAL rom when released.

Damn, sorry to hear about the PC crash Schaps. Good thing you were IT-knowledgable enough to make backups of your work. I know a lot of IT people who are just so ignorant to not make backups and blame technology for them losing data, when they should have known that things like PC crashes/hacks/etc can potentially happen as a end result of using technology.

Big ups for your continued hard work and hope to see the end-result of your hard work soon. I'm still in the process of brainstorming more ideas that could help contribute to your TouchXperience UI and will let you know when I have more constructive ideas.

I noticed that on your website you said
TouchXperience User Interface is designed for a future usage of hardware accelerated 3D graphics for an outstanding experience!
does that mean that it uses diamonds graphic chip(or will use in future versions) or that only handsets to come will only benefit from HW acceleration?

Hi Schap!

I'm new to this site but not to ppc's. I'm a fan of iphone-like devices and think this Diamond is the closest thing to it. But when I saw your videos on your site I thought that this Diamond can actually be a better choice than the big iphone.

I would really like to test your ROM. I'm not a dev. I'm not in the field of design and things like that. Just a simple network administrator who loves his Diamond.

What I am good at is thinking of new ideas to implement, test a user interface and judge if it is any good (as far as I've seen your interface looks really cool!!).

A lefty friendly interface would be great as the current TF3D is not really friendly for left handed people

I'd like to apply to be a beta tester.

My speciality is doing really stupid things and not reading instructions.

I don't have a Diamond so you'll either have to provide me one or re-write it to work on the Athena......

It does look rather good. Keep up the good work!

Good luck.

If you need another Diamond tester count me in. My first device was a Himalaya and since then I've cooked and flashed countless ROMs on many different HTC devices. I've also used every kind of program launcher and task manager out there so I think I can give you valuable input about how to make your program better.

I would need some suggestions or advises regarding user interface design of the custom event/profile manager which will be integrated in TouchXperience. Don't hesitate if you have some ideas:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=2475846 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2475846)

Hi Shaps,

First, thanks for all your great work. Your ROMs are awesome. I have an idea for a custom event/profile manager. This is a rather long reply, so if you already have a design please disregard. This is similar scheme to network/system management projects I worked on. I am not sure exactly what you are looking for, but I hope you can use some of this.

regards
J

1) Phone objects
Each phone object exposes a list of values that can be queried and retrieved by the profile manager. These phone object values may be tied to the system registry.

2) Events
An event trigger consists of
- trigger name
- the interval to look for that trigger
- a query to a value belonging to a phone object, whether a specific value for that phone object crossed some threshold.
For example. Query some GPS value every 30 seconds and beep when you hit that value.
- an action to take when the threshold is crossed

3) Actions
- what to do -
- canned notifications
- record a list of keystrokes and save it into an action

4) Profile Manager - consists of a list of events
- manage events, actions,

Hi Shaps!!

I hope you've got your computer and all the data back!

I'd like to ask you if it is possible to implement in the Phone menu (when you are dialing a phone number - the right soft key) the paste function.
It was present in my past htc pda phones, but it is not present in diamond.
I don't know how to paste a number that for example I copied from an internet page or from a calendar... the function is not in the menu anymore.

Thnx!!

I never said beta testing was closed, I'm still looking for experienced beta testers on Diamond, and this thread is open to suggestions regarding TouchXperience UI.

But please I don't want here such useless posts "add me to beta testers list", "please send me TouchXperience", "when will t be released?", "hurry!" like the hundreds (maybe thousands) messages posted in the different threads I had to read, which is a waste of time for me and an annoyance for people who are following the thread. When I open a topic concerning my projects, I always hope for a constructive discussion, but it's full of useless posts...

And be aware that beta version means unfortunately buggy. There shouldn't be any risk to damage your device, but some bugs could cause global system instability, so the first beta is really not intended for end users but only for experienced testers who would like to help me to solve eventual bugs. And as I said, I plan to release a public beta shortly if there is no major issue.

I would like to finish the first beta version during this week-end, I will contact people selected for private beta as soon as it is ready.

Bonjour,

Excellent work on the TouchXperience. I am a programmer myself and I admire people that spend their personal time to develop something this useful for the community. I have created my own ROMS in the past but not at this extent. I would love to test for you.

P.S.: I will soon work on a new Advanced Config. version fully compatible with Touch Diamond and Touch Pro. Advanced Configuration Tool V3 will come with a new finger-friendly interface.
