I've been trying to get something like UC to work in my cooked roms with no luck....
Anyone any hints? (sashimi works fine, but not what I am looking for)

There was 1 cooked ROM, that contains UC support, all other ROMs nada...
I would really appreciate UC support from the ROM chefs.
The ROMs are great, but installing everything again and again, is very frustrating.

I have just release SASHIMI 6.5b which has better support for the Diamond (auto install to Storage Card/Internal Storage should work now on VGA screens).
I realize that you stated that SASHIMI wasn't really what you were looking for.
However, I find that many people who say this don't really understand its full features.
SASHIMI can do virtually everything UC does and much more.
Many people look at SASHIMI and say "This is too much! I just want a simple UC!"
If that is the case then you can use only the basic features of SASHIMI.
For instance, just put your CAB,XML, and REG files in the corresponding directories and then just run SASHIMI in Auto mode.
After a clean ROM load, you don't need to do anything but click on SASHIMI.exe on the storage card to automatically re-provision your device.
(This is the only additional thing you have to do...as opposed to UC which runs automatically).
I urge you to give it another look. There are videos posted at the main thread as well to show you.

The thread is pretty active, and I usually incorporate user feedback.
Anyway, just wanted to let you know about the newer Diamond support. If you try it again and still find that you still don't like it, I would appreciate feedback as to why.

Bepe's ROM does UC (although haven't tested to see if it's fully compatable, i know installing cab files works on it)
