I ordered mine yesterday, and so did my business partner... They claim we will get them by the end of the week...

Just called upgrades and they're adamant that the phone is NOT available yet - can I ask how you got yours ordered please?

i cant wait any longer either so ive jumped ship to Vodafone. i have a contract with them that my brother used to use thats just come up for upgrade. Theyve given me a Touch Pro free for 12months with 250mins, 100 texts & unlimited internet for £30 a months. The perfect tarriff for me & far superior signal. Sorry T-mobile but youve completely alienated your customers - whatamistakatamaka!

We've been at them for months, and the last time I called they told me to call back on Dec 1st, and gave me a loyalty discount until then, so I called yesterday, and they apparently had them on their "system" and I was offered the handsed for a £70 upgrade fee, which I took...

The only difference I can think of is that I have a business contract with them...

Sorry I can't be of any more help!

supposedely out week on Monday for regular punters.

hurrah.... o feck I was about to threaten to leave t-mob after the misfortune of dealing with three mumpets in a row this week ( 1 in uk 2 in india)- all i wanted was to divert calls from my contact line to my PAYG after they accidentally deactivated my sim but they wouldn't as i could not prove ownership of the brand new PAYG, they accepted that i was the legal owner of the contract line- did try to point out that they have never asked me to prove ownership of my bt line when they divert my calls!!!)

Well you were right to be cautious..just phoned and they are now saying that it will be released in January, along with repricing of existing handsets. All due to the credit crunch apparently but they're not being told any details as yet.

I've resigned to the fact that there'll be no new handset for me until 2009 :(

I just called the cheapside branch in the City and was told Feb 2009!

I'll probably still wait as my upgrade date is 02/01/2009 anyway

I saw the phone in a vodaphone shop and it looks great much slimmer than my vario II

I thought so.

Off the back of your message I called them. Long standing business customer that we are. They aren't able to offer this until around Feb next year.

I ordered a Touch HD (sim free) instead and it's sat here next to me now.

Also showing is the Ameo 16Gb, £430.00

I'm waiting to see Vario IV appear on this page as I'm due upgrade. I'll wait and see what happens before end of this month.

The account manager at our reseller (Fonehouse in the Metro Centre) says he'll have V4 stock on the 9th...

It's been a hell of a wait :|

(And yes, I completely believe that V4 stock has never been the problem, just the need to clear out of the V3 which is a hideous thing in comparison..)

just rechecked err its now £230.00 for a vario 3

I posted that on the 03/10/08

If you are going by whats on the website I wouldn't bother as its well out of kilter with what you can get either in a store of over the phone to Tmob upgrades.

They wanted 100 quid for a MDA 4 compact upgrade on the website for a friend of mine but he managed to get it free by calling them (also got a better contact deal also).

I too am waiting on the MDA Vario IV coming out in the UK before my business contract renewal in February. My account manager says it will be out either Jan or Feb this year and they are just waiting to get rid of III stock.

I notice a couple of people here are saying about prices. If anyone is after a good deal, my account manager has always been able to get me and people I refer good deals. Scott Gordon - 0845 4122 064. Tell him Craig Brass sent you and you'll get a discount (their referral £20 thing off your first bill). Going to him with prices from other networks is usually a good idea too - something for him to beat.

This might be old news, but I got a Vario IV "dummy" phone today, and noticed a couple of differences between it and my Touch Pro - the most obvious is the back, it doesn't feature the "diamond triangles", and it looks like the speaker aperture is at the top, and not the back, but the other thing is that the "Home" and "Back" buttons have been swapped with the phone buttons below the screen.

I wonder why they felt the need to do that?

Cheers,

Steve.

To justify the 3 month wait? ;)

I`m not surprised regarding the back, the Diamond on TMob also has a flat back although the other things are a bit strange...

I was on Relax plan. Changed to Flext 35-18month with WnWplus.

Cost for Vario IV, £42! Very happy at that price.

I'll check invoice when it comes to make sure I am charged that amount!

I did phone them yesterday saying I was not happy about not being able to get phone, been with T-Mob (One2One etc) 16 years. They wanted to keep me.
At that price they've got me. I'm not complaining now.

I'll see what T-Mobile ROM is like few a while before deciding if I put a cooked ROM on it or not. Done so on my Vario III.

Looking forward to tomorrow now, time to download app's in VGA not QVGA time now.

this is a farce. i rang the sales team on 0800 956 2208. the advisor told me its in stock and would i like one. "of course" i replied. i told him i was an existing customer. he said i'll have to put you through to the loyalty team. so after 20 mins of crap music i get through to be told that its in stock but not available for release. The guy I got said the same thing I asked to speak to a manager and the sales person ended up sorting it. They said as the phone only came in today there were no deals to compare it. So price was expensive, As I have been waiting for months I just paid the fee to get it. Tmobile may give better deals on the handset in the next few weeks or they could be worse you just don't know. I also directed them to this site :-) They had 200 delivered today

Just off the phone with cs.

They were adament that the phone is not out yet, but probably would be in the next few days.

The cs put me on hold for a while and said that there were stock but they could not be sold yet. He suggest the others on the forum had only pre-ordered and wouldn't get a handset until it was launched.

Cheers, I tried today but was told that they were out of stock to personal customers but that the business side of T Mobile has 7 handsets (or had) that couldn't be touched by personal users due to the way T Mobile works these things.

Stupid really as if they're in stock, they should be in stock for whoever asks in my opinion.

Also getting told stupid upgrade amounts, I'm on Flext 35 web and walk, and am being asked to go to a higher price plan AND then pay £100 on top of that for the phone... I mentioned the person who'd posted about going onto Flext 35 and getting the phone for £42 on an 18 month contract and they couldn't say why this was.

I wouldn't mind, but Vodafone had the Touch Pro ages ago free on £35 per month plans and I chose (stupidly) to hold on for T Mobile and now Voda only have it on the higher tariffs for a longer period of time.

Arrrgh!

I am a T-Mobile business customer. I rang up for the vario IV yesterday afternoon and even though the system was showing up as having 9 in stock, a phone call to the warehouse from cs revealed that there wasn't any left.

cs then rang a few local shops on my behalf to find stock and was told that the shops weren't expecting any in and would only be available direct. They couldn't tell me when the next batch would be in. They said they would try and find out and let me know today.

its a f'ing farse in my view. I called yesterday on behalf of my wife and after initally saying they had one, once they ran my wife's details about what she would have to pay for it:

Initially they said it would be £130, then £330 (full price) and then oh, the phone isn't released. Muppets, I told them about the people here (and even BS'ed that one of you guys with the phone was my best mate :) ) but it made no difference. The pricing is rediculous and even O2 have a better deal on the handset at the moment.

It is a farce considering when the phone was initially announced!

I agree about the pricing too, I have 2 phones and a data card with t-mobile, my last 2 vario upgrades were free, this time around I am quoted £132!

Jock

They said they would try and find out and let me know today.

Had a call back today from the CSR - supposedly in stock and (what's more) they will deliver to my home address tomorrow (hopefully) rather than the business address next week.

£42 + VAT for the upgrade and they let me reduce the tariff from Flext 35 + WnW to Flext 30 + WnW, so I have saved the company some money (just as well as I'm in accounts).

Seems they have a different policy towards personal customers then given the larger upgrade fees they are quoting!

We had 6 delivered to our business today. We're on Business 1 plan and have been hassling them for ages. When I spoke to them yesterday they only had 23 left, so stock is very limited.

Impressed so far - touchflo 3d and wm6.1 make the phone a lot more sophisticated to use, but waiting to see how I get on with far fewer hard buttons...

Phoned up again today, guy I spoke to looked it up on the system which said it hadn't been released, however he agreed to check with his manager and magically there were 83 in stock :D

In the end, I got it for £22.76 + £6.99 delivery charge, on a 18month Combi 25 + WnW plus (about £35/month total).

Should be delivered tomorrow before 1pm - fingers crossed!

82 left! ;)

Were you due an upgrade ?

that looks awfully low, sure it wasn't the mda compact 4?

That's what I was thinking :)

I called upgrades at 11am monday. Asked for vario 4, he searched system, reported there were 86 left, then told me i could have it on same tarriff (flex 25 and w&w plus) for £90. This was for 18 month contract. If I extended to 24 month i could have it for £50.

He tried looking at other plans but couldn't find a price mark (words to the effect) against a promo price plan. He recommened waiting week or so for plans to filter with beginning of feb for new promos.

Worried that it may shot up in price like on o2. Going to have think but very tempted with £50 offer.

He also confimed it was officially on their system, but web site may not reflect same info. I looked and noticed vario 3 upgrade for £180 on web site so vario 4 sounds a good deal.

Thought I'd better wait until it arrived before I posted, just in case it was a Compact IV ;)

Postie has now been, and thankfully it is an MDA Vario IV in a very pink box, and it is very shiny :D

I've been out of contract and due an upgrade since August last year and although I'm on a fairly low usage plan, I got upgrades to check my past 12 months billing history which showed I spend between £20-40/month on foreign calls and data. So if you think you spend a lot, make sure you ask them to check.

Quick impressions: I like the overall finger friendliness (I have difficulties using the iPhone because my fingers are very dry), and as others have reported, I've got a MicroSD card with Copilot maps on it.

I phoned up yesterday.

I currently have a Vario II on Flex 20.

They offered me a Vario IV on Flex 30 plus WnW for £35pm, with the phone costing £137. They wouldn't do me a better deal than that. But they did say to call back in a few days when the phone will be on the website and there should be some better offers.

My local T-Mobile store is expecting stock of the Vario IV on Thursday, so I'm going to go back and see them then, and hopefully they might make a better offer.

I have been calling Tmob everyday, to try and get a better deal. Today i was offered the following:

Vario IV £2.50
Flext 40 + WnW £45 (my current tarrif) for 18 months.

or

Vario IV £40
Flext 40 + WnW £40 they said they would include WnW for free.

My discount is roughly £330, but they are not allowed to tell you this.

Im still thinking about what to do. As people have said before, when its officially on the website there may be better offers available.

STILL WAITING........................................... ....

I've phoned a few times too.

I'm on F&R tariff so my discount is only £200 meaning they want around £130 from me for the handset. Tried to tell them I could get it cheaper elsewhere but dont think they are interested in keeping me, pretty much suggested I go elsewhere! Great customer service!

Quite correct its an early upgrade to which seems a fair deal, but for sheer cheekiness and hope to get something good for all the loyalty and business I've put tmobiles way, it pays to somewhat beg for a better offer. End of the day they need us, consumer market and all, especially with so much choice. Will update when I've decided what I doing.

I've been with them 8 years, longer than anyone I've ever spoken to at t-mobile has worked for t-mobile.

I have 2 phones, 2 contracts, £35/month each.

I was denied an upgrade because I'm 'not due an upgrade for another 6 weeks' and I was told that the new policy is not to offer early upgrades.

Tone down dude... T&c are a pain but theirs appears to be the best. I agree they don't appear to be very helpful sometimes but compaired to other carriers such as orange they are angels. (contradiction of this when speaking to some cs staff who see the job through the words of that silly little script they get given).(script monkeys)

Answer to question anyhow is 1 month before 24 months is up. Play them at their own game. Its a business contract, they cock up rub their noses in it and moan like a grumpy old man. (make sure you have gen reason)...if they do a good job, good service, no faults flirt with everyone related to the service or product you want, it sometimes pays...

Something to think about. You buy an Htc panda or any phone from orange you get 6 month warranty and accessories, it don't bare thinking. Any faults after you have to go to manufacture.

Just upgraded to the vario 4 from a vario 3. (my vario 3 upgrade was bodged and was not makred as an upgrade at the time) so I have got both the vario 3 and 4 with in a week of launch for £100. It also showed my account for not upgrading for over 22 months. when I got the orignal vario1

Costing £92 + delivery, so its just under £100 on Flex 30 with Web and Walk (£17.50 ish a month)

I am on the old Friends and family discount for life. (i.e. I can have any tarriff and do not lose the discount at the end of a contract or I upgrade)

She said I could have any tarriff but my usage would not really suite it. and I was already on max discount due to the F&F I have.

Don't know if anyone else has had this issue. I was looking to get the Vario IV months ago when it first was hinted to be coming to T-mobile. As I was in my upgrade window I was offered a £10 a month loyalty discount, which I asked at the time "can I cancel this at ANY time and u/g when the Vario IVis out" to which I was told "yes". Turns out now that was a lie and I actually agreed to a new 12 month contract without u/g so I can't get the Vario until June (end of 11th month). Anyone got any suggestions on this one as I really want the Vario IV, especially after my local T-mobile store ordered one in for me, superb looking phone!

I am very tempted to jump networks in June due to the terrible customer service but it looks like O2 want both my arms and a leg to get it on a £35 a month new contract so I am a little stuck!

Any ideas?

Hey God5K

That is completly untrue. the loyalty bonus is not a new contract, it is a thank you while you wait to upgrade, you should complain !!!!! the CSR that told you that is either delusional or lying. I am on this loyalty discount to and I have been assured it is not a new contract and can be removed at any time. The only problem I have experienced is when you dial up using the options, the automated response is that you cannot upgrade (even though I am out of contract) but if you speak to a human and get them to check they will confirm its just an added discount.

Make sure you complain about this ! TMOB are starting to take this P**S

Hey Leafdog,

Thanks for the reply. That's what I thought, but apparently there are two types of loyalty discount, one that lasts for 6months and one that is a new contract. I have sent a complaint via the online system (I was restrained). However, I will blast them with both barrels if I don't get the answer I want. I am sure news of t-mobile misspelling contracts to customers is frowned upon by senior executives, newspapers and the ombudsman. So I hope for their sake they see sense and I get my shinny Vario IV soon!

Cheers.

The full cost for the phone is only £332 apparently so looks like something is going seriously wrong there. Try ringing and speaking to a different customer service agent in the loyalty team, I have found this works much better as they wanted £232 from me to start with, then £92 plus to pay £10 per more per month but I got my phone (received at 8am *this* morning.. so to speak) for £82 on my current plan.

I guess it must depend on what you have spent in the past , how long you have been with them as a customer , and what contract you have with them now .
Plus i complained politely about the issues with phones being released (though i doubt that alone gets a free phone)
My renewal was sept 07 as that was when the vario 3 was launched (sept 06) and will not change from a 12 month contract .

As with most business there are so many factors that warrent the discount ...

if you really wanted to compare i guess we could add up the last 5 years online bills and see how much each of us has paid to them , maybe that would start to show up some considerable differences in customer profiles?

Apparently my local branch now has them in stock, so I'll pop in this afternoon and see what they can offer me. Maybe they'll do better than the call centre?

Just for information - I'm on Flext 20 with a Vario II, and my 18 month contract expired in November. I rarely go over my Flext allowance except for a bit of data every few months. Back on the 20th the best I was offered was Flex 30 plus WnW for £35pm, with the phone costing £137.

I wonder what the store will be able to offer me? Ideally I'd like Flext 35 with 10% off and free WnW at £31.50 with the phone costing no more than £100. Think I'm being a bit optimistic .......

I was waiting to buy an MDA Vario but realised I wasn't keen on the colour of the T-Mobile version.

Ended up buying a brand new in box model off eBay for £255 (plus £7 P&P) and then signing up for a 18month SIM only contract with T-Mobile on Flext 35 (currently £31.50).

Best bit is I signed up for the contract at a Tesco Telecoms Centre and they gave me a Wii, Wii Fit and £145 cashback as free gifts.

By the time I sell my no longer needed Touch Dual I will almost have made the money back on my eBay purchase.

Well, I picked up my Vario IV last night.

The best retentions deal they could offer me was the same deal as the other day. But they did agree to let me have the same deal as a new customer Flext 35 including free WnW with 10% off making £31.50 per month, and £176 for the phone, which multiplied out over 18 months is actually cheaper than the retentions deal - what's that all about? I guess they don't make very good deals for customers that have only been on Flext 20 for the last 20 months ......

I should have walked really and waited for a better offer, but when it was sitting there in it's box in front of me, I couldn't resist!!

I thought I would hate the T-Mobile branding, but I actually quite like it. They've replaced the white and pink of the Vario II with a much more pleasing white and purple. Quite pleased so far ... loving Google maps and the built in GPS.

Strangely- when I walked into the store i was asked what price I had been offered. I told the truth but later asked if he would have known if I lied- he replied that he probably would have as he had never seen a subsidy of more than £300 on a handset. Me thinks I could have saved a little more if I had said £70 for example rather than the true £90.

I too am happy with the branding.

The only thing I miss is the screen size of my ameo- hey ho- atleast now i can make calls with out a headset...

They won't even price match against vodaphone or O2 who are offering this on a £35 18 month tarrif and i get the device foc. I guess that's a no brainer.

It appears loyalty don't get you goodies.

My gripe is i've had no discounts on tariff since i joined back in 1998, and all i read and see is come along new customer and get money off but go away old loyal dog unless you want to part with more cash.

It's a no brainer alright ... stay with T-Mobile. When I checked what I would get with O2 and Vodaphone for £35 per month, it wasn't anywhere near as good as Flext 35 with free WnW. In my opinion none of the other operators can beat T-Mobile tariffs for value for money.

That's the only reason I'm sticking with t-mobile. I'm not a heavy user of HDSPA but I'm a regular user and when I use it, it's usually essential.

I can't be doing with going down the dongle route so until there's a new 12" laptop at a reasonable price with built in SIM slot which can access HD(U)SPA, I'll stick with tethering my mobile as a modem.

Went into my local store today. Signed up for 18 month flext 50 contract. Originally said he couldn't drop below £80 for the phone (even pulled out his special bit of paper he's 'not meant to show me' to make it look more authentic).

After a bit of bartering, he offered a free bluetooth headset worth £50.

After a bit more bartering, he offered the handset for £30.

I took it, happy with the phone :)

HooloovooUK
30th January 2009, 08:19 AM
I'm obviously no good at bartering :-( My store, just like the retentions department, wouldn't budge. Well actually the store just called the retentions department on my behalf, they didn't appear authorised to make decisions on their own.

Maybe signing up the for the higher tariffs like Flext 50 gives you so much more leverage? Assuming you got the 10% off deal, over 18 months you're spending £243 more than me on the tariff, but I only spent £146 more than you on the handset, so I guess it all works out in the end. Over 18 months the most expensive handset with the cheapest tariff is usually the cheapest overall - so unless you actually use the extra allowances of the higher tariff it's a false economy to go for the cheaper handset.

Does anyone here know whether or not this Version will have support for the 1700Mhz T-Mobile 3G?

not sure but looking through the settings on the UK varioIV only shows

gsm(900+1800) +UMTS(2100)
GSM(1900+850)+UMTS(1900+850)

So I guess that means no- not sure if upgrading the radio will allow it or not

That's just a let down... I(being a T-Mobile Customer) was hoping that the T-Mobile variation of the Touch Pro would support all of their bands so I could at least get a taste of 3G...

Side note... Can someone please dump the following registry key and all entries within it from an MDA Vario IV and post it back here?

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook]

I would like to see if it contains AGPS Settings for T-Mobile.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Comm\RasBook\t-mobile internet ? There are 2 keys DevCfg and Entry

I only have the phm reg and the key is an awfully long binary- if you show me how to then i will post back... far too long to manually copy

regards

Thanks but now I need 2 different keys dumped off the T-Mobile MDA Vario IV.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS]
(all entries)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\SUPL AGPS\DefaultSetting]
(all entries)

Please use Ce Reg Editor to dump the keys and then upload the CeReg file. That's probably the easiest way to do it.

Thanks.

Dan

Hope that this is what you wanted- there is no defaultsetting listed

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\supl]
"ServerPort"=dword:00001C6B
"ServerIP"="10.1.101.XXX" have deleted last part of ip address
"QosPerformance"=dword:00000059

"TimeBetweenFixes"=dword:00000001
"NumberFixes"=dword:3B9AC9FF
"GPSMode"=dword:00000002
