Update: The Vario IV "is in testing at the moment and won't be available until the end of September"

As yet, "there is no stock or pricing information available to anyone at t-mobile"

Obviously, if anyone else rings up they will probably be told something completely different.

I will keep trying every 7 days.

I think that they are saying end of September to be on the safe side.

T-Mobile announced the Vario IV before the Touch Pro, they must of been testing it for weeks now I think that it may come out in August. They may release it on the quiet.

How long did it take for the Compact IV to come out after the Diamond?

That's the thing about call centres, large companies and the people who pay for it all to exist.

The company never treats the front line staff with enough respect to give them the information they need to do their job efficiently.
See the very recent debacle of t-mobile sending out the Diamond instead of the Vario.

This leads to a huge drop in efficiency and a lack of information which causes some of the first line staff to talk rubbish in a pointless
attempt to gain kudos from having 'inside' information. The only other people to be impressed by this are other first line staff.

That's all I get for paying t-mobile over £800 per year, I guess :(

I see htcdirect have also brought their date forward to the 4th of August too.

http://www.htcdirect.co.uk/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=10&products_id=418

I'm thinking this is probably the real date now as several firms that were listing 30th August have now started showing the 4th.

I'm thinking this is probably the real date now as several firms that were listing 30th August have now started showing the 4th.

Nah, it just means they don't have any stock and they are changing their dates to reflect what other companies with no stock are saying so it looks like they have stock.

Devicewire.co.uk is run by the UK's Brightpoint subsidiary. That's why they got the first official UK Diamond stocks, and they show 1st September. I'll go with devicewire every time, knowing that they are run by the main European distributor, thanks muchly. when Device wire shows 4th august, i might believe it.

And no, they don't have them in stock yet.

So where do we reckon Expansys will get their dodgy early grey import stock from this time then??:D:D

I just called T-Mobile about an upgrade asked about the Vario IV. He had no idea what I was talking about he even tried to sell me the compact IV and I had to pay £40 for the handset. Yeah right! The price that I'm looking for when I upgrade is free. lol

I just rang up T-mobile to see if this was true, and the girl I spoke to checked two systems and the coming soon page and couldn't find it at all. I mentioned that I had heard 'a friend' had managed to order one, but she said it didn't seem likely.
So please let us know what you ended up getting.

I also spoke to T-mobile today about the Vario 4. The chap seemed to really know what he was on about (upgrades dept) and even knew about this site! :)

Definately not available yet, he said they normally get the phones into his deptartment to play with pre-release and although he'd heard/seen the reviews for the Pro, T-mobile, to his knowledge, havent given it to them to play with yet. They had the Diamond ages ago, and they've also had the Blacberry Bold but no Touch Pro.

I was reading somehwere (cannot find the link) that Vodafone business customer may get the Pro at the end of the month. Somehow I don't think that'll be correct...

I went into the local Tmobile shop today to see how much they have mucked about with the Diamond, to give me an idea how much they will muck around with the Raphael. The salesman came up asking if I wanted to buy one and I explained why I was there. The rest of the conversation went like this

Salesman: No sir, I think you will find that there will not be a version with a keyboard.

Me: I think you will find that there will. Expansys are selling it today.

Salesman: Ha ha, I don't think so, sir! I have always had Varios but I've just got one of these beauties because there will be no more Varios released

Me: Are you sure you work here?

Just then the manager appears and is asked about the Vario by the salesman.

Manager : Oh yes, I understand it will be out next month

Salesman : You bastard! You told me there wasn't going to be another Vario, and that this was the phone to get!!

Manager (sheepishly): er, I only found out on Saturday!

Salesman : But you said . . . . .

I crept out of the shop at this point as the discussion was getting more heated!

Have just recevied this email response from T-Mobile. Why do they persist in assuming that the people that contact them have no idea of what they want and think they can sell you something else?

Thanks for your email Dominic, about the HTC Touch Pro. It's great to hear from you today.
I'm pleased to hear that you're thinking of upgrading your phone. It's always a pleasure to be contacted by one of our customers.
I'm afraid that HTC Touch Pro model isn't available in our range of phones. I'm not able to say if it will be coming into our range of phones in the future.
I can understand if this is disappointing, but I'm pleased to advise that we're constantly expanding our range of phones. I know it's important to get the right phone for you. We've got some great deals on offer at the moment that you might be interested in. You can view all of our current phones by clicking here.

And you can always call us to talk about what's available. We're here every day from 8.30am to 10pm. Call us on 150 from your T-Mobile phone or 0845 412 5000 from a landline (Landline calls are charged at local rates if you're a BT customer, but if you're with another provider it may cost a bit more so do check).

Thanks again for contacting me Dominic, and I'm sure that you'll be able to get a great new phone soon.

If you've any more questions please feel free to reply to this email or contact us again through our website.

Kind regards

T-Mobile know that there is demand for this phone they just need to hurry up!

But how long did it take T-Mobile to release the Compact IV after the touch diamond? As this could give us a rough estimate of the phone's eta. But I think it will come out end of August/beginning September.

<snip>

Precisely the reason I went out and bought the HTC own branded phone instead of waiting for my network (Vodafone) to get the a$$es in gear!

I even phoned up Customer Support a few months back when the Diamond had a UK release date and enquired about the phone being available with them, they had not even heard of it - or their list wasn't updated! Got the normal spiel about "other" phones that may be of interest bla bla bla!

Can't they understand I know what I want and they obviously don't! :D

I have just sent a reply to them explaining that what they are now doing is precisely why I left O2 after being with them for 12 years (through Genie and Cellnet years). O2 messed up big time over the release of the Tytn so I went to T-Mobile to get my Vario II (cheaper data was also a big lure).

I basically said that Vodafone seem to have the acts in gear so give me one good reason why I should take my custom to a company that can at least tell me that the phone I want is "coming soon".

I wish I had the cash to buy direct from HTC!

Had the Vario IV in my hands today. Definately didn't like it's software style compared to HTC's theme. It also has 256 instead of 288MB of RAM, but HTC's 288 could be 256 + 32 for the graphics.

I kinda liked the backplate though, not very thick, but nice rounded, makes it look thinner. Anyway, I'd take it if it's flashable with stock Roms.

What else is different with the T-Mobile version?

IceEyz
27th August 2008, 10:48 PM
It's mainly the TF3D that's different. It's the T-Mobile white and Pink. All icons are different, portrait and landscape modes.. The Internet-Tab is replaced with the Web and Walk nonsense, but Opera is still on of course. It also felt a bit slow, but that probably had numerous reasons: Had to be turned on and booted up, the already-applied full-coverage transport screenprotector was still on, which probably caused less response on the touchscreen.. (The lady didn't want me to tear it off, she thought this was the real screenprotector..)..

Come to think of it, should have checked the ROM. Anyway, I hope it's not slow because of T-Mobile's efforts on it..

Ow, and the keyboard has indeed red signs instead of green, which I think is not for the better. Green is what our eyes most easily see..

What turned me off the most, was the price.. It's more expensive than buying the Raphael Non-Branded somewhere else. It will go down though, Christmas is coming up :).

I'm tempted to just forget about the vario iv now. I've already got the Ameo 8gb and i might just bite the bullet and go for the 16gb Ameo. I had a play with the touch diamond pro yesterday, and to be honest, i was a little bit "unsure" about it.

There was nothing that blew me away. So its got a flashy home screen and touch capabilities. But nothing that won't eventualy be ported over to the other HTC devices (ok, not including the accelorometers functions)

The Ameo has never failed to draw in a crowd whenever i have pulled it out, to do some remote access to my office pc, or to view youtube, or play my psx emulator..... the list goes on.

In short, if i could of had the Vario iv early july (this is when Tmobile "assured" me it would be released) then i would probably not be picking bones with it, the WOW factor may of drawn me into to a slight fanboy frenzie..... but now ive had time to think.... maybe i want a larger storage on the Ameo.... a phone that (other than its size) has very few faults.

Should I wait for the vario iv or just get the compact iv? is the only real benefit of the vario the slide out keyboard and the slightly faster processor?

What phone should i go for (or is about to be released by tmob uk)

I do like the look of the N96 and Sony xperia. But ive been waiting so long for the vario iv i keep putting off any enquiries about other handsets.

I realy dont want to bother just getting the compact iv just to regret it 2 weeks later, but on the other hand i am sick of being fobbed of by tmobile staff that dont seem to know about the future handsets.

Every time i have enquired about the vario iv... some undertrained phone monkey in the upgrade department "assures" me that i am on about the compact iv.

I also had a full blown argument with an upgrade guy regarding the ameo 16gb which is still advertised on the upgrade page, but taken off the main paymonthly page. Apparently they have never had an ameo 16gb.

Tmobile need to understand that they are loosing business due to them not offering information regarding new handsets. Surely it is clever business practice to "hook" the customer with snippets of info. instead they blatently miss inform and argue. Maybe i should consider changing carrier??

God dammit! im still no clearer as to what to do! sorry!

I have had a contract with T-Mobile since they first started trading as One2One.

Just to advise all those with this benefit to check before upgrading.

I will certainly be changing operator.

It is a little too pink for my liking, havent found a way to make the touch flo more hetero ;) But will get used to it...

Touch Flo 3D seems pretty fast, no hickups as of yet. It is a bit awkward at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's nice...

Also in general. the 4 way button around the circle is weird, it is on the outside of the circle. But again once you know it is on the outside of the circle instead of the inside of the circle it's nice :)

T-mobile are now pushing their new flext tarrifs which seem good as you get more mins & texts for the same money, however voicemail is no longer included in your free mins, and is chargeable @ 12p per min :( you do not have to downgrade to the new flext if you do not want, but you will have to pay more for your upgrade phone if you decide to keep it,

For example im on flext 35 and can upgrade to a compact 4 now for free if I take the new flext 35 tarrif, but if I want to keep my old flext 35 tarrif I have to pay £40 for the compact 4

If anyone has been told different post here so I can call them back.

I called tmobile uk upgrades yesterday to enquire "again" about the vario 4. I was told that the vario 4 is the compact 4. The upgrade guy called Max assured me that the compact 4 came with a slide out qwerty keyboard. And that the compact 4 was infact the diamond pro!!!
He told me that there was no stock, but he could process the order now to stop me missing out. I told him that he was WRONG and informed him that there could be a chance that "I actually may have slightly more knowledge than him when it comes to HTC handsets"
Confidently he re-assured me that the compact 4 has a qwerty slide out keyboard! And continued to process the upgrade. I asked that once the phone was recieved and i had the chance to PROVE that he was wrong... and see that infact the phone is no more than a compact 4, could i return the phone and cancel the upgrade. "ofcourse you can sir, just dont open the box!!!"
At this point i asked "do you recieve commission for upgrading me today Max?"
"No!" - very doubtfull.
Any way i have called the upgrade department this morning to complain that i feel i had been mislead and sure enough - they say NO QWERTY KEYBOARD!
If we all seem to know that the vario 4 has an ETA of sept-nov, and that the holdup is most likely down to rebranding.... Why do none of the tmobile staff appear to be aware of this! HONESTY, KNOWLEDGE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE USED TO BE IMPORTANT.

I'm guessing that you would not be using the Ameo for porn as it is at work!

But if the compact iv had bigger memory and and a SD card slot I would have gone for it but it doesn't and you have the best of both with the Ameo and the compact iv.

Just two minutes ago I spoke to T-Mobile Upgrade&Renewal Team...

The consultant said that they have been told to expect the MDA Vario IV handset to be available at the end of September or pushing early October 2008.

I have been able to upgrade since June and am still waiting patiently for the Vario 4..another painful couple of weeks then

Based on past experience and as advised by CS, the quickest way to get hold of one as soon as it is out is to call up T-Mobile as soon as you see it available on the website, or to just keep calling them every few days.

The T-Mobile stores do not receive sellable phones before the upgrades department know about the release. Although they may receive a tester for the in-store employee's to help them learn its features. This was the case when I got the old MDA compact, but that told me that the handset was already available the day before (due to next day delivery from T-Mobile UK to outlets) and surely enough it was and I called them to order one.

Not surprising that Sales guys in the outlets are not clued up. Infact my local T-Mobile store didn't know what i was talking about when i said "Vario 4". They didnt deny its existence they just said they didnt know when it would be out - probably the safest thing to say

I couldn't wait since my old vario II was faulty so got a compact - amazing phone and I still havent had the balls to tweak anything yet.

I am starting to get used to the lack of a keyboard, I use the "compact Qwerty" keyboard which I think works very well, I can usually just bash away at the keys and it comes out with what I wanted. I've even come to a kind of an understanding with TouchFlo.

The only thing I think it really does need more of is RAM as it starts to chug with many things open.

So who knows I may go for the pro and pass this to the wife who has a very old nokia - it looks good, the best looking HTC so far.

My T-Mobile contract (2 lines) expires on 12/11 iirc and I want a Touch Pro :D

I went part way through the ordering procedure before asking the same thing last night. There is a drop down menu stating the type of business and it lists "Individual Business User/Sole Trader" and there is also an "Other"

So the answer is maybe not much of a business. After all I work for a business, but they wouldn't buy me one of these, but I might buy one for myself and use it for my business, so it's a business phone. If that makes sense?

My Tmobile contract runs out on 11/11 and they flatly refuse to discuss upgrades with me before 11/10! Gits! But they did say that I would be contacted by them before 11/10, I presume because I can cancel without penalty on that day. If the Pro is out and they make me an offer I cannot refuse, then I'll take it.

But then again, do I really prefer the Diamond? Aaaarghhh I hate decisions

flourish
12th September 2008, 06:03 PM
Decisions scales for me were tipped in favour of Vario 4 (touch pro), not only by the Keyboard (Realised how much I do use it on my Vario 3 but the Micro SD slot that the Diamond lacks (mainly because I use my micro SD cards to transfer data aswell as storing media).

When I first got my Vario 3, I had various people comment on the size of it but my justification was that I know I have the option to use the keyboard and the only sacrifice is a little pocket space.

An expansion slot is a must for me, as I know what it's like to run out of space on a device and be helpless to the fact that the only solution is to muck about with creating space by moving data back onto my desktop pc.

Come to think of it, buying an MDA without an expansion slot would be like buying a Netbook without a single usb port (thus removing all easiest ways of expanding storage or connecting a CD writer as an alternative)

no offence to any diamond owners but I vote Stunno should go for the touch pro - don't buy the car without a boot/trunk, whether you use it or not, its nice to know you could if you wanted to ;)

You may of noticed my origional post in this thread where i pointed out that i thought i had made a mistake getting the touch diamond (compact iv) and not waiting for the vario iv.

Im actually realy pleased with the compact now i have had a play with the vario iv. My mate got his vario imported and when we sat in the pub showing off our slightly simular phones almost every one opted for the smaller sleeker and less geeky compact. If you cant cope with a software keyboard at least pop into a local tmob store and try the compacts on screen attemp. it is very responsive and alot easier to use than any other software keyboard i have used in the past. I realy didnt think i could cope without a hardware keyboard, but now im happily texting with one hand!

As for the touch hd, dont worry, most of the apps and features will most likely be ported to the compact or vario phones anyway. dont forget that these 2 phones already have great support worldwide and the apps and roms being developed now look impressive to say the least.

In a nutshell, i thought i had realy shot myself in the foot by jumping the gun and getting the diamond, whereas in fact im chuffed to bits.

Im using the stock rom at the moment, for the next month or so anyway. Its important to try the stock before you try a cooked rom, otherwise you never know if the new rom is beneficial or not.

Battery is very impressive. Which surprises me. but i am used to the Ameo which chugs along for reletively short periods.

As i said before, you wont be missing out on too much if you choose any of the new htc touch's - from the compact to the HD. They all have benefits and flaws.... but the concept is simular on all of them and i expect they will all have variants of the same software.

I wont say get a compact for the sake of it... but i would say... why wait for ever... if you go for the vario a week later they anounce the HD. If you wait for the HD they will release another soon after and so on.

I dont regret jumping the gun at all

But is it really Vario IV or once again they are trying to sell Compact IV as Vario IV? And if they will have it on stock, so why they removed it from their website? To many questions... :/

Called them today - the rep told me that it's not even on their "coming soon" list :(

She suggested I spoke to Carphone Warehouse if it's available on other networks (ie vodafone) but that I'd I have to "negotiate" to keep my off peak and landline calling.

First post for me :)
I spoke to someone at T-Mobile yesterday and another person today.
Yesterday I had a long talk about whether the MDA Vario IV was even going to be released. The person on the phone was more helpful than most - looked through the upcoming list of phones but said it was not there, offered to give me a call when the phone came in.
He also, crucially, said that they had been given the spec sheet for the phone a while back. Something that they get when a phone is about to be released so that they can gen up on things. He acknowledged that there was a lot of interest in the phone and he himself would look to get it too.

So relatively positive there.

Today, after a look on the net and seeing as how the G1 has been announced and people are worrying about T-Mobile not even bothering to release the MDA Vario IV because they have this 'snazzy' new piece of kit (which I think is still really only Vario I in terms of look and feel), I thought I'd call again.
Got a different person but she was helpful too. She put me on hold and spoke to a tech person and came back and said that the Vario IV was not on the upcoming list but the person she had spoken to would definitely have known if the MDA Vario IV was going to get ditched for G1. She's also calling me when the Vario IV is available.
My contract up on 9 October so have been hassling T-Mobile for the last month about this but I think maybe an announcement this Friday or next (fingers crossed).

I undetstand what you mean why would t-mobile release a phone that is better than their G1.

Well they are taking their sweet time. Like I said before I am losing interest in the phone as it is taking a long time and I am considering buying the touch HD offline and get one of those sim only contracts because T-Mobile are annoying me.

Sorry for my anger but this phone is better then the G1. So why so long and why now it looks like it are you going to delay it even more for the G1.

Yeah, I feel for you guys with the off peak calling etc. Stuck between a rock and a hard place. I actually think the Vario IV will be available in October sometime but don't hold me to that. It's been out in NL for a while now so it's surely just a matter of sitting tight.

While I like the Touch HD, especially the screen size, I just don't want to go with out the tactile feel and speed of a proper keyboard.

Well, Vario IV is already in T-mobile NL and Germany also(since yesterday - private market) . In t-mobile UK they are trying to test it without result. So I have no idea what is really going on in T-mobile Uk :/

Hello All, I'm also hanging around waiting for T-Mobile UK to pull their finger out. If it works in other countries why can't they just rubber stamp the approval here. Getting very bored now and leaning towards the Xperia though as it does VGA video recording. Might be persuaded if T-Mobile give me a great deal on the upgrade though, but from what I hear they are really tight on upgrades.

The problem is, by comparison Win mo devices are never as popular in the UK as they are in NL and germany, T-mobile UK always drag their heels when it comes to these devices as they are not a big money spinner, for example the X7510 has just come out on t-mob uk, but it came out on T-mob germany 6 months or more ago, They also try and do stuff like not upgrade their phones from win-mo 5 to win-mo 6 even though T-mob germany already have done it. We are a small niche market and t-mob UK just don't care.

Hi all,

FYI I just called these guys, and aimed directly for the "end your contract" operator rather than the "phone upgrade" one . I explained I wanted this phone badly, that I could get it from expansys with a t-mobile uk (!) contract but not as an upgrade directly from them . However when asking how complicated it would be for me to end my current contract and start with a new one from expansys straight away, they told me that THEY WERE EXPECTING THE HTC TOUCH PRO last quarter of 2008 " so something like december" .
I someone could ring up these guys to try to confirm this ...

I want / need a timescale in the next week or two. My Vario 1 is continually rebooting during phone calls and I can't cope with that. Failing that its Vodafone time and awesome signal strength enjoyment. Do they have good HSDPA coverage like T-Mobile in the south east / London?

Yep, no change to contract. Second phone is due off contract in feb 09 so i said if you change the tarriff does that mean another 18 months. She assured me not. Also I can roll my half price tarriff over with a new phone apparantly. Obviously keen not to lose customers. All ideal apart from reception is pretty poor in scotland! http://www.phonedog.com/cell-phone-research/blog/g2-htc-touch-hd-may-be-t-mobile-s-next-android-phone.aspx

Vario IV not out til end of November.. I've been dealing with a lady in the directors office at head office (and blogging it) and it was originally 1st October (today) but has since been put back. I very much doubt that they still have it in testing but more that they want to clear as much stock of the Vario III as possible before releasing it, which could also explain the lack of information being given out both in person and on the website as some people may hold off getting the 3 if they know the 4 is coming soon!?

dom_mitchell1

I don't know what to do now; I was going to upgrade to a Vario IV as a simple matter of course from my Vario II. I've got that running TF2D now with the soft keyboard from the Diamond to see how I get on with it not having a hardware keyboard.

I'm not so sure I have such a great need of a hardware keyboard as I thought; you can bash out emails/short word docs quite easily without the hardware. Longer documents are a bit more of a hassel but it's not like I do that very often.

All of which leads to me to think "Sod waiting around for the Vaio IV, just go for the Compact IV". But then the Touch HD/HTC Blackstone gets announced and I'm all of a quandry again. The keyboard will only be better with the larger screen real-estate and the thing looks even more gorgeous than the Diamond.

Do I want to start the waiting around process again for a phone that currently has no carrier information whatsoever?

What do people reckon? Have you been seduced by the Touch HD? Anyone with any inside track on T-Mobile specific details regarding its release? (Sorry if this is taking things slightly OT).

Damn I wish I could afford to buy direct from HTC/Expansys/Clove! Stupid Law School fees!

Haha I know what you mean.. I am so confused and almost tempted to just get the Samsung Omnia and have done with the whole damn thing.

I just don't want to be stuck on a contract with a phone I don't like.

Also tempted to go to Vodafone and get HTC Touch Pro on contract over there.. by the way you don't need to get it as a business customer.. but only if you do it over the phone, which means you lose out on quidco but maybe they'd give you some credit on your account or something instead if you asked nicely?

I see T-Mobile are stocking the Nokia N96 now so it must be an HTC problem why the Vario IV is delayed.

This is very depressing indeed. I hope it's not true. I'd be tempted to grab an omnia myself, but there are too many negatives - the lack of support from this website being the main one.

I'm also tempted to see what deals Expansys do for the Touch HD on T-Mobile contracts. It's a shame I cannot upgrade through Expansys as I don't fancy signing an 18month contract.

Best decision I made ever with the phone. I had the Diamond (a.k.a Compact) and I really did enjoy it but the TP is soo much better.

Vodafone in Bristol is OK. Where I work though is right next to a T-Mob mast (I can see it out the window) so HSDPA was excellent. Voda not as good, but it works.

No regrets.

Good stuff. I've just cancelled my T-Mobile contract and starting with Vodafone, hopefully phone should arrive Tuesday or Wednesday. Looking forward to it. Most of the time reception has been ok but there's a few spots at work where I got no signal and I know vodafone is ok.

amazing I was pressing for that exact deal on my £37.50 per month contract and they would not budge, they said the best they could do was an aditional £5 off if I signed up to another 18 month contract but did not take a new phone, or the £10 off for 6 months but then I would have lost the permanent £5 off I was already getting, I signed in-store with Voda this morning

:(

I`m totally aware of this - asked how much an omnia would be (in comparison) and on a 12month contract @ 42.50/month they want £70 for an upgrade. Would expect the Touch Pro to be much more...

But 42.50 gets me:

unlimited x-net mobile calls after 7pm every day and all weekend
unlimited land line calls 24/7
600mins or 1200 texts to use at other times
unlimited data

The dilemma is that due to the included off peak calling vodafone's plans work out a little expensive in comparison.

Really torn as to what to do...

This would give me a chance to compare pricing with the two networks (or more) and help me decide if it is cheaper to buy offline or to switch networks. Or even buy the HD and change my contract to a 30 day one.

fair comment, I was unhappy with T-mob, I was already getting a £5 PM off for signing on-line when I took the contract, this £10 off actually would have been another £5 off for me, and after the 6mths was up I would revert to paying the full price (ie I would loose my original £5 discount) besides even after the £10 discount I would still be paying t-mob £2.50 more per month, and t-mob are charging for the phone, where voda are giving it away.

Did you go through quidco? they doing the 100pounds money back and could you post details on the price plan you got from vodafone

No need the in store deals are better

£30 per month for 700 mins 250 text unlimited data (and possibly unlimited landline but im yet to verify)
Phone free of charge + I got a nice nokia BT headset thrown in

down side is it's a 2 year deal, but they will do the exact same deal @£40 PM if you only want it for 18 months (if you do the sums though you will see that in total the 18mth deal and the 2 year deal cost the same, so it's like getting 6 months tacked onto the end for free)

As stated by ice_coffee, I got a better deal by going direct (over the phone for me as my local store doesn't stock the TP). I got a free TP, 500 mins/100 texts and unlimited internet (if you can call 500mb/pm unlimited) for £42.50 on a 12 month contract. Would have been cheaper - the same as other deals posted- if I had gone on a longer contract, but I like to change my phone every year.

The total cost of ownership up to the end of the contract is £510 which I consider ok.

TBH even if it is, judging by the price of the compact 4, T-mob are not going to give you a good deal on the Vario, as a rule of thumb it is worth around £70~£100 more than the compact, you should phone them up and see what they will offer you with a compact, then decide whether or not it is worth staying.

if you are on flext they will try to push you onto a new version of flext where you get more mins (only useful if you regularly go over your mins) but charge you for voicemail access at all times (no longer inclusive in your mins)

i shall be phoning tmobile, and seeing if they can match a deal ive found on the net

12 month contract, £42 month, 500mins, 375texts, w&w, with a n96 for £36 and £40 back via quidco, if they can match that ill have it if not ill port my number to virgin pay as you go, and port it back to the new tmob contrct.

then the n96s are making £400 on ebay so il out it straight away brand new, and either get an offline touch pro via expansys or ebay if there is one local so i can pick it up with a reciept.

long winded but should have a touch pro on tmob and a 12 month contract in under 2 weeks ;)

That's if you can get hold of an n96. Whilst i was in a queue on the phone to cancel my t-mo account, the recorded message was stating that they have no n96's in stock and to ring back in a month.

Well after much to-ing and fro-ing I`ve asked for my PAC from TMob.

I had previously been told that an Omnia upgrade would be £70 but apparently this was an error and it's actually £70+ the RRP of the handset - i.e. they want £370 to upgrade (on a £42.50 contract!).

She thought the that Vario IV was coming out in November but TBH the if the Omnia price is anything to go by the upgrade amount will be astronomical (as opposed to just Tmobile "high") so I`ll join Vod tomorrow.

*sigh* - will have to lose off peak xnet calling but seeing as I've got £370 worth of 'extra' credit to spend shouldn't be a problem!

Well, it seems the upgrade prices on T-Mobile will be too steep so I got my PAC. Even with the £10/month reduction, PAYG on Three was still cheaper then T-Mobile. One upgrade to Windows 6.1 later, my Hermes is masquerading as a Kaiser (which is supported by 3) and happily strutting its stuff again :D

Shame there's no Vodafone coverage at my house, as their deals look good

Elsewhere on another forum a TMobile manager has stated that they definitely have the Vario IV in stock, they are literally waiting to get rid of the Vario III first. There is also a new policy for upgrades regarding certain types of customer, hence the stupid £75+RRP some of us have been quoted.

If you get a chance, have a look at:

I was told this by a sales man at my local T mob shop. The thing I find strange is that the vario 3 is still listed as £100 upgrade, they're hardly trying hard to shift them!

I'm thinking of leaving T-Mobile just becuase of the arrogance of the 'senior manager' in this thread.

If he was that important he wouldn't have time to be an idiot on a forum hiding behind a nickname. I'd call him a real name but I should really keep it family friendly...

Anyway, if they are waiting out for III to go, they're in for a longgggggg wait!

I dont know what difference it makes but that is for a business contract, sorry I took a while replying, I only just noticed your question, it is a special offer contract based on them giving away 50% more mins on a 2 year deal, so Afaik it is actually the 500 mins 12 month deal with the 50% addon for being a 2 Year contract.

I called them today and got my PAC code and am awaiting a delivery of my nice new Touch Pro from Vodafone tomorrow morning.

I was told that the Vario IV had now been pushed back to the new year, that was the final straw for me, combined with getting no signal in my gf's house.

They tried to keep me at T-Mobile by trying to convince me to get the EXCLUSIVE G1 that comes out on the 27th, so I'm guessing what they said to you about the Vario IV coming out at the end of November is also false!

Snap - £5 quid as I took out 18 months (or paid by DD or something) and £10 (no contract, no tie in) until I upgrade or leave. This means it's cheap at the moment and I'll be moving over to Flext when I upgrade as I don't make sull use of the 35 allowance (mostly online stuff rather than calls/texts).

Just thought I'd add I called T-Mobile UK upgrades today (Wed 5th Nov 08) about Vario IV (Touch Pro) and X1. The upgrade's lady I spoke to said there's still nothing on their system in terms of expected launch date, but they didn't expect many new handset launches now until the new year.

Obviously this ties up with previous posts in this thread, and also posts about X1 and Vario IV on Modaco that T-Mobile are doing G1 launch and then trying to offload old stock including a lot of Vario III's until end of their Q4.

What was interesting is that, without prompting, because they didn't have either of the phones I wanted yet the upgrade's lady gave me a 6 month duration £10pcm discount on my monthly bill (with no additional tie-in as I'm now out of contract) as a 'Loyalty discount' to tied me over and keep me on T-Mobile till they do get the new handsets in.

Thought others not desperate to upgrade might well want to phone up and get a £10 per month discount for the price of a free phonecall (Dial 150 from your mobile then '3' for upgrades). Just remember to appear to genuinely ask and care about Vario IV and/or X1 and hopefully you'll have as easy time as me...and if you do get any different info, please do post it here for others.

[While I don't approve of cross posts I do plan to add this to suitable posts on both X1 and Touch Pro forums as this is a simple thing people can do to save some money pre Xmas]

I've been monitoring this thread over the last few months in the hope of seeing a 'heads-up' as to if & when the V IV would be out and to be honet had kind of given up hope. However, i went in-store yesterday and enquired if and when the vario might come out and the Manager reckoned that end of November was looking likely as Vario III is being dis-continued from then. (His info was based on a course he had just been on!?)

I tested his resolve and said I would happily slump for the Samsung Omnia (which I could have walked out with there and then) but he insisted it was worth waiting a few more weeks - He seemed confident

Another false dawn??

I've decided to plump for the Touch HD now. Gave up wating for the Vario IV and knew I'd have to pay stupid money for an upgrade to it anyway.

Just got my PAC code from T-Mobile and have a Touch HD on order through mobiles.co.uk on O2.

While I was getting my PAC code, the guy in retentions asked why I was leaving. I explained about the Vario IV situation and that they'd taken so long, my attention had been won by yet another phone. He told me that the Vario IV would be out 'very soon' and that, in his opinion I should go for the G1 anyway.

£42.50 per month (which is what I was paying to T-Mobile) with 600 any network anytime minutes, unlimted texts and 'unlimtied' internet withh the HD thrown in for free. Oh and a free Jabra 2010 headset. Just got to wait for next week now when stock is apparently due!

T Mob have me by the short and curlies as they BES tariff is £10/month which compared to the rest(£28/month) you cant really argue with! The problem just now is that an MDA V will probably be on the scene before the iV is released! Funny how the normal Customer Service staff deny all knowledge of the phone then when you ask to leave all of a sudden it is coming soon!

I've taken a fancy to the HD now also, hopefully can sort something out with expansys on a T Mob contract that allows me to retain a cheap BES tariff.;)

spoke to a different customer services person today who had been away for a couple of weeks so had to go ask someone .... they checked their system and apparently the stock due was middle of November but their answer was that it needed more testing (read: supposed to be released then but we screwed up)
So now not really sure when its gonna finally make the light of day... they seem to think that it was being held off until January... ?

I ordered mine yesterday, and so did my business partner... They claim we will get them by the end of the week...
