Hey Folks

I upgraded to the official Hong Kong ROM upgrade on my HTC Diamond & whilst impressed by the speed improvements I have a major bug that annoys the hell out of me & thus hope some genius reading this can help fix the problem :)

On the home tab using the "phone" icon it then shows recent calls. However the left hand button that used to show "contacts" now shows "video call". I never want to make a video call & contacts is far more useful .... but there is no obvious way to change the function

Hoping someone can help

Chill dude.
This ain't a bug, it's a feature.

Personally, I do find video-call usefull, but ill prefer "send SMS"
Do U really need contacts? You can use the keypad T9 to find the person U want to call easily...

Circle your finger around the middle button and it rips thru contacts!

Use your favorite registry editor to navigate to [HKLM\Software\HTC\Manila] and change the following values:
"HomeLSKPath=addrbook.lnk" 'that's the application you want to use
"HomeLSKText=Contacts" 'that's the text that will be displayed on the left soft key on your Home screen

Do a soft reset.

Now your Left Soft Key will display Contacts, so when you press it, you shoul go directly to your contacts. Enjoy!

I've changed mine to Comm Manager. :)

Do you know the keys for the phone app? I bet there are 100 people wanting those. I think that is what kgb-agent is looking for.

With CT's rom version 4 if I tap Phone soft key on Today screen then tap the little phone icon between the video call and menu softkeys it removes the keypad and leaves me with last call and contacts list...

For me i just disabled the phone skin with the Advanced Config tool. It reverts back to the old WM6 design. I still prefer that. Do note that once u do this, the vibration when a call connects is disabled.

Hi Blaze,
Circling with my finger in the middle button doesn't work for me. Furthermore, with "Contacts" I could quickly scroll down with the Alphabet on the right to f.e. the letter Z. The way you recommand it takes me ages to get to the "Z"!
I called the HTC helpdesk, they advised me to do a Hard Reset. Of course...that didn't work...:-(

Go to start and choose contacts its the same screen.
I agree the videocall is a bad choice from the makers of this rom.
Most people do not use this kind of calls.

@kgb-agent: I phoned the helpdesk. They said I had to do a hard-reset!?! I couldn't believe it, but okay, I tried it...and what do you think: I still have the problem! :-( I guess we have to live with it...bad choice from the developers...

Two things:
1) why don't people use the smart dialling feature? this is where when in the phone keypad, you just spell out your contact using the alphanumeric keypad (it uses T9 to search) and it displays your search results in real time at the top of the dial pad... MUCH easier than the contacts screen - try it.

2) circling the middle button with your finger does NOT work for me, i have no idea how that is working for you since the diamond is not meant to be able to scroll using that 'wheel' unless you have installed some 3rd party software for it, or its unique to your ROM/region.

Exacly! Smart dialling is an excellent feature.. I've been using it for years!
The video call softkey is infact more useful for me as compared to Contacts. Although I would l0ve to have "send SMS" instead :P

As for circling the middle button for other apps, this can be done with registry edit. DiamondTweak features this too.

Cheers.

Hmm.. I don't use DiamondTweak anymore, but I believe it was there.
Search for "Smart Touch" in the forums. Something will pop up.

I too was annoyed at having Video Call instead of Contacts in the 1.93 ROM, so today I tried a bit of lateral thinking...

Devs are always extracting stuff from one device to use on other HTC devices, so...
Search for VGA Diamond Dialler...

VOILA! On the phone screen my left hand softkey no longer says Video call, and now says Contacts instead!

And, before you ask, the Contacts do work! :D

There are two side effects, though:
1. SIM password entry keyboard is now in the style of the TyTN II dialler, but I can easily live with that
2. G / 3G icon has changed, and is no longer a square 'G' but is now a proper letter 'G', and personally I prefer it!

This can be enabled on 1.93 roms with the new advanced config v3.0 found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=418151)

Bro,
Does the dialer support video calling and all of the diamond features?
It's also mentioned that it consumes abt 6MB of memory, compared to 10MB for the original diamond dialer. Can you verify that?

Thanks!!

Yes, it does appear to support video calling. Video Call is selected via the right soft key (Menu). It is the first item on the menu.

From the memory side it does appear that it consumes less memory than the 1.93 dialler. I'm now showing about 48-52% in use, compared with about 56% with the standard dialler.

The beauty is of course that if you don't like this dialler you can always uninstall it to go back to the 1.93 version.

I am new at this, so pardon me if my input does not make sense or I am misreading the threads. I used Diamond tweaks 0.5 to change the phone pad from Diamond to WM, and it removed the "video" soft key. The link is:

Well, yea, by disabling the phone skin.
But you'll have to agree that the phone skin looks awesome and supports video calling and that additional feature which I love -> vibrate when connected

3rd effect - battery meter not working (at least for me). It displays full battery even when it is almost gone. Really dangerous :-)

4th effect - when you dial somebody, talk and hang up a call window stays there approx for 3 secs (then it automatically dissapears) with green button TALK at the bottom.

5th effect : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=432654¨

I have uninstalled that dialer bcause it was causing more pain than having Videocall instead of contacts. I guess I have to wait untill somebody figure out how to change it. Or HTC will pull their head out of the a... and start to listen to their customers.

These options work great mate. Thks for pointing them out.
But one thing..... There is beep sound coming for keypad taps when I use smart dialing feature. I have disabled sounds for screen taps under: Settings --> Personal --> Sounds & Notifications --> Screen Taps.

But still, sound comes up when I use smart dialing. This's really annoying.. Any idea how to turn sound off in Smart Dialing??? :)

This is done in Phone Settings, on the first page. You can turn the sounds off.
