Hey Guys
I just purchased and downloaded MS Voice Command 1.60 M2M and every time i try to install it I get the following error at the very end of the install:
"An unrecoverable error occurred in setup. Reset the device and try again."
It does seem to install it but nothing of MS VC works.
Having done a forum search I couldnt see any ideas so, i'm here asking for your help :)
Any ideas?
If I remember correctly, i'm running the Diamond TLR build ... :/

just tried SK-Tools to delete the old version and resinstall direct from the CAB file .... no luck.

Hi,
can you tell me your EXACTLY version of VC.
On some versions you'll need to change some files.
Monty Burns

Hey mate
VoiceCommand_english_intl.exe
Microsoft Voice Command UK PPC 1.60 for M2M
Got it from Handago or something like that today:confused:
If I need new files, any idea where I might get them from?
Bit cheesed to be honest, I've bought this software, paid for it and it don't work.

OK,
to get the exact version (1.60.xxxx.x) go to Start -> Settings -> Voice Command. At the right side you see "v1.60.xxxx.x". The x's are the exact version.
VC 1.6 have problems to work since Windows Mobile 6.x. I've made a CAB for the "normal" Touch a few months ago. With this patch I get it also to work on my Diamond.
I use an extremly old version of VC (1.60.4622.0). Perhaps it also works on your version.
What you have to do:
- Intall your VC
- Ignore the error message
- DEactivate VC (Start -> Settings -> Voice Command -> uncheck "activated")
- Install my CAB (you have to copy it first to the Phone)
- Activate VC again
Here the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2031281&postcount=7
Let me know, if it works :-)

Thats the version that was sold to me earlier.... why are these online shops selling such old versions????
Will try your cab now.... brb
Monty Burns

Nope..... thanks for your cab but still nothing .... just hold down button 1/left upside down phone and "dink".
Thats it.
funnysurf
31st July 2008, 09:47 PM
Ahhh,
OK. These "old" version don't assign a key of Diamond to VC. Try to assign it manually in Settings. I use it only with my BT-headset for that. So I didn't assign a hardware key to VC.
Tell me if it works. If it's so, I'll make a new CAB with key assignment to the left (phone up) key.
Monty Burns
31st July 2008, 10:17 PM
thats the thing mate. The ONLY key I have assignable in Buttons is key 1 which im assuming is the phone up/left key? As it is, i've assigned this to VC and I only get a "dink" when I hold it down.
edit: seriously .... no other buttons are listed in that screen just button 1

The Diamond has ONLY this one assignable (for long press). The "dink" is OK. Did you try to say something like "help" in the phone? Did it answer your "help" with an explanation of how to use VC?
Monty Burns
31st July 2008, 10:39 PM
yeah, tried "help" ... nothing.
I know its not working as on my G900 and tytn before that, a little microphone icon would appear in the bar at the top - its not appearing here.

31st July 2008, 10:50 PM
Hm,
i've tried it now also. There ist no icon... And also no reaction :-(
I never tried it with a hardware button since now. I'll try to get an answer for that. Why does it work (for me) over BT, but not on HW-key...
I'll make some tests, but not more today (tomorrow at 5 a.m. I must get up).
Tell you then my solution, if I get one ;-)

Is it for you OK to get (if I find one) an answer tomorrow?
Sorry for that...

Hey Deeds
a few wise people are looking in to this for us. So far, we've tried a custom cab to fix it and also downloading the latest frame work from MS. Sadly, neither have worked.
You can follow the updates, questions and ideas in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=2478313&posted=1#post2478313)

great thanks monty!
edit:
ive been trying for a couple of days now, with the same errror message as you.
ive also tried the patch linked to in another thread but also with no succes
and i too get the same ''dink'' sound even though i have mapped the button to VC instead of the default setting.
but it seems that this is the right place for answers so i guess i will just have to be patient :)

and yes, if anyone in the world can solve it, this is the place they will be ... fingers crossed!

In order to have VC working on diamond, after install (don't care about the error message), create a shortcut to Voice commander in \Windows\Menu Démarrer\Programmes\
And in Parameters, Buttons, assign this shortcut to Button 1(Hold)...
That's it !
To create the shortcut, go in \Program Files\Voice Command\
long press on voicecmd.exe, clic copy
go to \Windows\Menu Démarrer\Programmes\ and then clic on menu->edition->Paste shortcut

ok mate so your using a normal HTC rom :)
Cooked roms are roms that are flashed over the HTC rom. They often are heavily customised with software removed and some added. You can have a look at these forums to see them.
Have a look here to see if you would like to know more Cooked Roms (http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=430)
However, as you are using a "stock" rom then I know its unlikely to be my cooked rom thats causing the issue.

... \Windows\Menu Démarrer\Programmes\
.....
??? Whats that?
googling tells me that i think you mean Start Menu
Monty Burns
2nd August 2008, 07:21 PM
cant help but think we are *almost* there. I've copied a shortcut and the exe itself to the windows\start menu\programs directory however, still get the "dink"
When I try to assign the button 1 in Start->settings->buttons it just lists the same "voice command" option thats always been there ... and it still gives a "dink"

Had the problem first time i tried, cause of the shortcut name (if you name your shortcut "Voice Command", it doesn't work)... try to name it "Voice Commander", for example, so you'll be sure to pick the right one : in the list where you pick the application for button 1, you must have both Voice Command and Voice Commander... Pick Voice Commander

IT WORKS!!!!!
Don't know who/what/where "Bengali" is .... but will they marry me!?!?!?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much mate for putting me onto that new cab file.
You know what though? YET AGAIN, i've purchased software and tried to be legal and YET AGAIN I have to rely on what is effectivley pirate software.
I am now going back to my original ways of "try before you buy" i.e. downloading pirate versions, getting it working, and then if it a; works and b; is worth it and I use it .... i will buy it.
F*&k being legal, it doesn't work.

Well, like you, I bought it and went through the whole frustration and after days of surfing and reading, came across the article. I figure, I've got legit software and this hacked version just makes my legit copy work...so I don't feel bad about it, I'm just glad it's working....but I wholeheartedly concur.... :o

yes me and google have been friends for a while :)
but as far as i can tell all commands are listed in the ''help'' feature.
however i cant seem to get VC to work on my headset(not BT, but standard headset), do i have to map the botton on the headset as well to get it to work?
the only tutorials i can find are revolving around BT headsets.....?

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!
Its back, even with your new version whenever I try to use it now.... "dink" and all i did was reboot the phone (or rather SPB Backup did).
Tried uninstalling/reinstalling and no luck.

I got it to work after getting "dinks" again....you have to make sure you paste the shortcut......"voicecmd" to the windows\start menu\programs.
After this, using "Buttons" under the settings folder, you can then assign it to "voicecmd". Worked for me.....In fact, I also use AE Button plus and mapped the Volume up button to activate VoiceCMD with a long key press there....I am using the answer button long key press for SPB Full screen keyboard.
I am a happy camper now!

I skip the shortsut step.
Only reassign "Button"'
please don't keep pressing the "call" key untill you get the "dink" .
Just hold for 2-3 second and release before you get the " dink". This work for me.

did you try the shortcut trick ?
Monty Burns
4th August 2008, 10:44 AM
Do'h! No tricks or re-installs required.... just a little user education.... :o
I don't actually think there was any problem at all!
After some time someone in the thread to hold down the button for a couple of seconds and then release (previously I had been holding it down until i got some feedback, which was usualy "dink"). Once i did this i.e. hold it down for 2 seconds and release, it all worked great! Even the older versions!!!! Didn't need any tricks, frigs or 3rd party builds in the end.
Thank you all so much for trying to resolve it but it looks like there was no real problem after all, well, apart from me being a complete numpty :)
Well, I don't think i'm a complete numpty as i'm sure people who have used it on other phones will back me up but, you never had to hold then release, it was always hold until it beeps... at least, that was my experience. :D

however i would love to get it to work through the wired headset and guess i have to map the button from the speed voice dial to Voice command.
does anyone have an idea about what files should be mapped and where to?

Peoples,
I just graduated to Diamond from my TyTN II only to find that Icannot even install the application correctly. Goes through the motions of a typical CAB install (as did for my TyTN) only to get a "An unrecoverable error occured in setup. Reset the device and try again"
Anyone else have this issue?
Am I looking at a s/w compatability issue?
Thanks all...

Hey, same problems as the rest of us
here is the short version to the fix, if this doesnt work read page 2-4 of this thread:
n order to have VC working on diamond, after install (don't care about the error message), create a shortcut to Voice commander in \Windows\Menu Démarrer\Programmes\
And in Parameters, Buttons, assign this shortcut to Button 1(Hold)...

Bit of a misunderstanding...I can't even get to base 1.....CAB will not install at all (no MSVC installed on device after going thru the motions!), and am getting the error as stated.

I found after installing VC and assigning the call button one (hold) in the registry key to the voicecmd.exe that for it to work that I have to just hold the call button down until just before it "dinks" and release it for the VC prompt to launch. It's a matter of timing for me.. long enough to trigger the vc and not too long until the "dink". Hope this makes sense.

I am curious - I have tried to get AeButton working on my Diamond and have had no success.
I installed Voice Command 1.6UK, got the error message, ignored it and it all works well. I use it with my bluetooth headset and havent really had to do any tweaking. I assigned it to Button 1 (push and hold). However, I like occassionally to activate with a hardware button if I dont have my headset on - useful for quick access to music and contacts - but I cant find the hardware button 1. I get no response from any key. So I tried to install Aebutton which I have used for years and I doesnt have any response. I map the keys but they do nothing but their original function.
I am running SwiftBL 5.6 rom (which is incredibly fast by the way)

i wonder if voice command could be moddified to read out text (Text to Speach) from 3rd party programs, imagine browsing the internet and having vc read out the text, or even read out emails and text messages,
obviously microsoft could have done this, but for some reason left it out
