I got this diamond upgrade last Friday.

Today I was told that Orange recalled all HTC Diamond due to a system problem. Is this news true?

Did they ask you to return the phone and are they replacing with new one ? . Is this official news ?

They haven't asked for mine back.
I received mine on the first day of launch and I was pleased it didn't have any orange crap on it. If they are recalling then it must be to flash em with the late arriving orange ROM.

I've had mine a few weeks now (having got it through Phones4U rather than direct from Orange) but haven't heard anything from either company regarding a recall.

Something to look forward to! :D

They are probably trying to trick people in to sending them back so that they can put the Orange Bastardware ROM on them...

This news is rubbish ill be happy to let you know.
Its more likely someone misinurperting what happened at our warehouses.

We tried to load Orange software on them, they failed quality checks and we reloaded generic software on them so they could be released for sale.

There is deffo no recall! ;)

I would know!! Believe me! lol

About as good as the T-Mobile software maybe. Orange send thier Diamonds out without the value-added crapware. Have T-Mobile put thier crapware on thier Diamonds? I would be well p*ssed of if I got an MDA Compact IV to find out that they had replaced the cool-looking black 3DTF interface from HTC and replaced it with a corporate in-yer-face pink and white one.:D

Edit: Just watched a YouTube of a Pink and White themed MDA Compact IV - nasty ;)

A friend last night told me about the recall, as he works for an indpendant phone store. They have had the unbranded diamond recalled because they are over heating and going pop.

Im just waiting for orange to call up now and ask for it back.

im not surprised. The Diamond gets extremely hot.. would not be surprised if there is an overall recall anytime soon

i got a diamond from phones4u on the first day, 3 weeks later speaker packed up, phoned orange got a fault code and went back to phones4u for a replacement that works so much beter than the first diamond. i didnt look to see if the roms were different silly me but it still does not have any orange crap on it and this was on saterday 9/8/08. the guy from orange said they were having problems with the diamond and many were coming back.(off the record) you can not update an orange diamond direct from htc. it wont take your s/n number and i dont think orange are going to be as forth coming as htc with the updates.

I heard (from xda forum I think) that orange tried to put their own software on, and it didn't go well, so they reverted back to the HTC Rom, hence the reason the manuals and guides etc are all useless..

Orange normally publish ROM upgrades on the 'Orange business' site, but the Touch isnt available on Business tarrif's yet. Once it is, any updates will be published on that.

At least thats the way other HTC phone updates have been released in the past.....

That would be kinda ghey

And the first we read about this is on here? must be an isolated mater as HTC would recall them all if this was the case.

This has cheanged recently...

One can now update even branded handsets by registering the S/N on the HTC website :D

I was wondering seeing as I cant upgrade from the HTC website because I am on orange, would anyone know where I can get the 1.97 ROM (or is it 1.93)....the latest ROM. Or if someone would be kind enough to "lend" me their S/N if they have a generic phone?

I see you're on the 1.00.25.07 radio, did you notice any differences over 1.00.25.05?

TIA

I got my orange diamond on Wednesday and already had to get a replacement due to a problem with the screen. No one on the phone mentioned a recall. My ROM version is 1.37,

can anyone confirm if they have an Orange diamond Rom 1.93. If so how?

R3PUBL1K

From what I have seen the latest ROM orange have on the diamonds is 1.37 and the Radio 1.00.25.03 (very out-of-date)

No orange are not recalling the diamonds, I have spoken in length to a few CSR's at Orange and there is no recall planned although they are no selling the phones at the moment last time I spoke was on the 10th August and his manager thought it was down to them waiting for the new firmware as they are having problems getting the orange software to work on the handset, until then keep checking the orange website for ROM updates
