Well it took some time and a couple of hundred Flashes.
But i wanted to make something no one has ever seen before.
And after seeing Schapps new Project and some old ;) app called MortButtons. I thought, hey i can do something like that. And there was some more stuff that i wanted to try out, to extend how a rom is cooked.

So before the final version of the new Surface Rom, which will be differently skinned and maybe lose some apps or gain some.

What No Programs Menu?????
How to use The Interface and Menu
Swipe From Bottom screen to center to start taskmanager.
On any Menu sliding from right to Left Get's you to main Programs Menu.
Slide right to left to browse through the 5 main menu's
Menu 5 is empty to configure as you like.
Slide from Quarter of botton screen to top to browse through to next page if a menu has more entries.
Slide from top to bottom to exit Menu.

You'll be used to it in no time and wondering why you were fumbling with your touch all the time.

To change Menu's Slide Bottom Up, Slide Right to Left, Press Accessories, Press Extra Menu's , Press Setup Menu's

Use any skin you like and try the different Menu animation, i'm not using cube because it is slower.

Yes Smartdialing works.
Yes the Power Off Warning Works
Yes Wifi Works
Yes SMS and MMS are seperated.
Yes it has a seperate script to configure Long_Presses. (Andvanced Config doesn't pick up on that tweak)
No the phone does not freeze when you press the power Button once, yaddah Ya.
Oh and i haven't tested it but Keyboard should not have space bar issue.

I'll Post the packages for the skins included in the Official Mort Buttons release.
Oh and don't go installing the cab over the rom installation.

Noonski Edit: The idea came from Ababrekar, and it actually really only shows after the Mort install script in the background finished.
Part of the cleanliness of the mort install script that runs in the background is what makes the Rom Still Fast despite being filled with Bloot.(if you can call it that.

I have decided on keeping one Menu Blank to be configured for your personal needs.
You know like favourite settings Extra installed Apps or Web shortcuts.

This version is missing a lot of the new icons fro the menu, It's a no worries build, well except for that Diamond Keyboard. (haven't had the time to do the research on Gullum's Diamond Keyboard.

Ah well at least opening HTC Album from Camera works. (Go, HTCTouchP for that Camera)

The Sys files hold most of the core applications you always see.

These rarily get updated that much and (when was the last time the calander changed?)
Changed are so small and unnoticeable in SYS that upgrading is not worth it.

The XIP however holds some of the most important files that Windows CE run on. NK.exe Device.exe and some others. But these are the parts you don't mess around with and between new builds most changes occur in these files.

As for OEM files again these are rarily updated like the SYS, but since most HTC applications are in this section you will find that more files get updated in the OEM files.

Also using full SYS and OEM from a VGA device even if it's newer isn't the best way to go. Yes it will work. But most resource files like .DLL carry extra Graphics for that higher resolution. Yes they also hold regular QGVA graphics, so they will work.
The files themselves just for this reason are bigger. And since the files hold more information, in microseconds it will still take longer to read through the file, and it might take a bit more memory remembering and storing the used Resource from these files.

But the XIP section is as far as i understand resolution independent.

There's a lot we can do in OEM and SYS to squeeze performance but there's not a lot to tweak in XIP as this quickly becomes system critical.

Just try to kill device.exe or nk.exe in a good taskmanager, you'll see how important it is ;)

But this is just what i know (think) globally.

Euhm, it's not skinned yet that's why it's a unskinned public preview.
The skinner ran of with a Playmate to Hawai ;)

It's currently running Triple Darkness Skin.

Beside the whole interface adepts to whatever Theme you use.

I believe there's a screenshot fanaddict that will post a few screens. Or i will make some new ones later in the night.


Maybe ayyu3m (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=654733) will make a few screenshots of all the update Menu's and home screen with his favorite personal theme. (diamond Theme does not fit with HTCHome and BTstatus at that spot.)

Or better yet why don't some of you post your Fav Themes?

how can i improve the communication manager a bit? it shows only 3 buttons. & advanced configuration tool also didnt help.

& i more thing after opening the bluetooth explorer the warning is shown in some language other than english.

Commmanager functions will move to the Endkey which isn't finished yet.
(Was planning to do that after finishing this build)
So it might be i will have to switch to 6 button commanager in final version.
It was sort of a Proof of Concept that even Commanager can be integrated into the menu system.

Basicly the new Endky Commanager will be nothing more then 24 different version of the same menu and 24 scripts to control them.
Or maybe if i'm lucky i only need 24 scripts.
Button runs script, Script starts service, Script renames menu (or writes next menu from thin air) then restarts the newly renamed/created menu with the ON/OF State. As you can see i'm not a programmer as this could propably be done differently.

Would be even nicer if Mort Buttons would get additional function to Show Up or Down state of a button depending on a registry key.
(hard work for Mort less for me )

So depending on how long final skinning is going to take i might even have it finished.

Yup Bluetooth explorer need to replace the MUI file, good find, easy fix, This was the version i used from The Piko Crew which will be doing the german version. I have WWE version in stock Added to To Do.

Also the Commmanager used is the actuall Windows Mobile Commmanager, it's always been in the Roms as wrlmgr.exe (wonder why some people don't take it out if they are using HTC commmanager)

Yeah i removed the cube animations from the Menu, but it seams you read up a bit and found the way to change this.
(Cube animation sometimes takes a few seconds to start because it has to to more calculations)

Also one of the reasons i chose to start Taskmanager is because it confronts a user with the fact that Stuff is already running before you start more apps. The only thing that BTstatus X button is good for now is to controll the Long Tapp of X button to close
Don't mind the memory i had all the apps open.

Swipe Up Then Swipe to Left for Start Menu ;)

When you install extra Apps You can add these to Personal or ckick on the Programs button on HTCHome or they will be Under Swipe Up, Left, Browse, Programs.

I did this to force the use of the menu, old habits are hard to break and i think the new method is easier and nicer. Really changes They way you use it. Just imagine not needing to bend that thumb in that ackward position to click on those small buttons.

A script will be added to Settings >> System >> Administrative Tools.
To restore Classic Start Menu.

Hmm my beta flash testing handz are really starting to itch..... want to flash but going away for four days so no go....

Btw good job on the backwards compatibility option. Really curious on how the new menu works :)
Was working with SPB Mobile Shell 2.1 with Diamond Skin for a while, this is also a whole other way to work with your mobile. Wonder how much your way will change my view ;) Will test it on friday (as soon i get back behind my pc)

Well it's not as advanced as SPB, as it mainly only replaces Menu's and Extends options of the Hardware and Softbuttons.

Main thing is the memory that it uses.
It unloads when exiting through downwards swipe (almost unloads completly) Ans SPB keeps using Mucho Memory and has left gestures.

I thought you where gone allready.

I'd say this would just be good for Actuall Field testing

As for the backwards comp, Ameet's the one going crazy on writing Files out of thin air using Mortscript.

going well......... but a few bugs-
1. 'End key> toggle wifi' is not workin.
2. 'Connect to> ActiveSync' is saying error
3. mort script is not closing by tappin x button. hav to terminate with task manager to close.
4. when i press 'contacts' in the call status page its taking me to 'mort buttons' page(same as 'personal').

hope to see this things corrected in the final version....

See almost forgot about these. Good Finds.

1. Fixed because new CommManager will be added.
2. Good one. Will be fixed for now the Easy fix is to do it manually by euh..... Downloading the attached file, renaming the file extension back to .mscr
Drop the file into the \Windows\StartUp\
Folder and restart your device.

Fix has been incoporate into next weeks Candidate.
3. It does close the actuall Menu when you Tap and hold X. normal Tap will keep the MEnu still in memory.
But to make life easier don't tap X just swipe down and that does unload the Menu. But Mort Buttons Exe will stay hidden in Memory to open Menu's quicker.
But this can also be disabled. in MortButtons settings.
Up >> Left >> Accessories >> Ex Menu >> Set Up Menu >> Extended >> Disable Stay In Memory.
4. Hmm have to look ito that but it's fixable. For now the easy fix is to use Advanced Config or Softkey Applet in System settings to configure Right softkey to randomacces.exe. But i see you meant the Callstatus Page in Phone..... I'll take care of that for sure I need to fix the addrbook.lnk and the MSCONTACTS registry settings. Not a smart idea replacing it there.

You have been doing the major working :D While I'm still trying to download the files from Server. I'll Atleast upload the latest XIP which I'm using. Faster & Stable :)

Yes the edit this menu dissapears once you ad one item.

You can also choose to not hide the Menu bar in the display settings for the menu. This gives you a menu entry at the right soft key.

Yes it's Elfin Worthy.

Well you can start on the Menu ;) and just keep a back up of the MBI files in windows folder and submenu folder.

But a vacation on the end of this project sounds like a good idea first.

I'm only using the brushed metal Background because it gives me a good way to check which Font Color Goes best with everything.

And the background can be changed anyway fairly simple.
I'll post the Skinning PNG file when i'm finished and a cab.

One other thing though... I can't seem to get on my wifi anymore.
Comm manager won't launch - I get an error message about it being unsigned, and if I use the long press on the red key, then click toggle wifi, nothing happens. No wifi is turned on and I cannot connect.

Any ideas? am i doing something wrong?

So tomorow a landscape skin then put back network wizard into the rom on Wednesday.
Thursday Portrait WMP Skin (again prepared for easy skinning for final Background graphics), based on the HTC Full screen Big Button version.
Friday a Landscape skin for WMP.

Oe BTW WMP skin will be installed to your SD during Autorun, so any skins you save inside a named folder into \Storage Card\My Documents\Windows Media Skins\.
Will be selectable as a skin for WMP, in case you want to use a different one.

Then Saturday and Sunday i have to integrate VoiceCommand and Network Wizard into the Menu's.

Any one seen some nice icons (PNG) for these?

Another good one.
Advanced config has a setting for this but it's not picking up the files as it should, so i but a script in "Start >> Settings >> System Tab >> Administrative Tools >> KeyPressSettings"

As you see there are actually two script there i already removed the KPS version from next build.

1 small issue I faced. When I hide "Weather" & "Profile" tabs from HTC Home. After that, the clock on Home was not displayed completely. The last characters of "AM/PM" & "Clock" were shown as out-of-focus [wasn't able to take screenshot].

Yes sometimes rotating the screen to landscape and back should also fix this.

Maybe it has to do with a registry setting called slideoutrotateangle, but i haven't done tests with this (and may not for a while as it's is not the most nervewrecking problem.

Noonski, I continue to be impressed by the well-thot out scheme. It is efficient and fast. It has taken a while to get the hang of things but, by jove, I think I've got it.

A couple of things I've noticed as I've played...
1. I personally find that it is more comfortable and natural for me to swipe down than across. This is likely just a personal preference, but I get a "crick in my thumb". LOL

2. More seriously, I have an issue with the "Contacts" soft key on the phone screen. If RapidAccess is already running in the background I get a blazing switch to that app. However, if it is not running a Mort new menu setup screen is goes up. (Set Entries, General Settings, Exit). I have the Contacts softkey on the Home screen set to launch RA and would like to do the same with the Phone screen.

3. From the NEW action screen: opening a new SMS lands you in the message field rather than the "To" field; opening a new email lands you in the "subject" field rather than "To".

4. The Program launcher on the HTC Today plugin is only able to be customized with newly installed programs. I wanted to replace a couple of the shortcuts for things that I access more frequently without having to go a couple of layers in.

5. I had some issues with "Set Volume." After installing a couple of apps, a soft reset resulted in a hang up which I eventually found to be an error message stating that file "'setvolume' cannot be opened. Either it does not have a trusted certif. or one of its components can't be found." I removed the programs I had installed and continued to have the issue so I did a hard reset and started over. System worked fine so I reinstalled the earlier apps (one at a time) and the issue has not re-occured. I can't duplicate it as of yet.

6. Is it just me? I can't get it to keep my SIP preference. It keeps reverting to the "keyboard".

2. Contacts menu setup up will be changed in next version so it is not the default to open as MScontacts. (testing now)
3. I will look into that, but when i used only the To command it would not open a mail..... So i added the command to go to subject.
I'll play with it while i relax in the bathroom.
4. Will be adressed/fixed once the Restore Shortcut Script is made.
5. Hmm not seen this one yet. But pure theory, check if any of the installed apps uses a settings.ini file in the windows folder?
6. SIP is now in My Nightly at home ;) So fixed.

Contacts and new.mbi go into windows\submenus
button3.mbi goes into Windows (might need to change properties first with Total comander.

If the original Contacts app gets started through another application and stays open in memory, opening the RandomAccess.exe will result in still getting the default contacts app.

You have to install the Norwegian cab.

Gullum made a Base which already has all the registry settings for all other languages, that's why all languages are showing in the settings.

I'm only using the English Base in the Rom (all languages gets mighty big)
After installing the cab and selecting norwegian itm should pop up.

But this is something i have not tested on all languages.

Sorry about that, it wasn't a typo.

I copied the settings from a RGU file (file that get's imported to registry for seperate packages)

RGU files use a different syntax for the Folder paths where double slashes need to be used. So it prolly was just the unticking.

I have shamefully corrected my Cooking language to regular Registry language, as you can see i get confused somtimes ;)

I can't reproduce that in the last build.

The Heading being wrong is a regular issue with the folder selection version of the album.
It's using a dll from a "certain" program. And that DLL file is looking for a MUI file which isn't in the package. I'm not sure anymore if adding that MUI resolved the heading or adding another DLL version, but i believe it had something to do with size.

So at the moment i have to write it of as an accepted side affect of this patched function.

But no folder selection delay here.

Well Enlarged Menu ain't in the ROM because it allready has an even more enlarged menu already.

Well i started to write part of the script to restore links in Program menu.

But then i said to myself "I need to watch that movie i just rented"

So here's the partial script to restore the LNK files in the start Menu.

It will be finished but maybe some people would like to have a go at it to make their own lay out to incorparate into a UC autorun Flash.

It's fairly straightforward you don't need to be a rocket scientist to make your own version.

Remove the .txt extension.

Place the script into the \Windows\StartUp\
Folder.
Restart the phone and presto.

Now let's WatchDayWatch

Skinning is the last step and in that time i will test some new stuff that might never make the rom.

Just flashing a new build myself with Total Commander and Rar as modules instead of files.

Next Public release should have all links fixed in the start menu (links only in the start menu and not in the Windows folders have less influence on performance, there is a reason some apps have short names, so it takes less time to read them, and Windows folder always gets completely read ;))

I don't know if this has been noticed before but the HTC album.... there is something seriously wrong there.... See the attached screenshots...
- Know issue I believe, the title in the folder selection screen is missing.
- Text/image in info screen (rotate to do what) missing
- NOT showing any video's..... won't detect them, even though the normal image/video viewer detects al 10 of them in my folder, htcalbum won't detect any of them.....
- not anything major, but check the params for htcalbum in the menu's, the video ones have a leading space at the params... (tried removing this space, but had no effect)

I'll see if I can reproduce this with the build you send me... for now I believe a reasonably high priority problem ;)

I don't know if this has been noticed before but the HTC album.... there is something seriously wrong there.... See the attached screenshots...
- Know issue I believe, the title in the folder selection screen is missing.
- Text/image in info screen (rotate to do what) missing
- NOT showing any video's..... won't detect them, even though the normal image/video viewer detects al 10 of them in my folder, htcalbum won't detect any of them.....
- not anything major, but check the params for htcalbum in the menu's, the video ones have a leading space at the params... (tried removing this space, but had no effect)

I'll see if I can reproduce this with the build you send me... for now I believe a reasonably high priority problem ;)

Aaah the help screen.

Yes i clean the help files and along with that the help graphics as they don't add to the actual working of the app.
You'll also not find any Help files in Opera. It's really about how important are the help files? and if your already Flashing patched SPL and shit ;), you probably not the kind to look at help files.

I can put the correct Album Gestures tip in the FAQ, or a Bram Smulders Veto might get these back in.
There's even a few pretty big files in the Album Help files, this is purely performance versus, actual need.
Aahh , you know what i mean. But at the moment let's call it an intentional bug.
It's the question "Do you need that help?" (i know you don't need it your just being thorough, but not everyone is that thorough)

The leading space should not make a difference, but you are right it's tidier.

Looking for solutions that might not exist, as i don't know how to integrate tGetFile /Patch album to use it.
(testing now) Nope can't fix it. So it's either have those blocks up there or remove the browse to folder or ask schen for help.

Album not detecting video's is an old issue i think. it only gets some file types, been looking for a hack of some sort.
Will also research but i can't guarantee as i can't find anything yet about it.

Havoc you have to check the difference in start up speed in Total Commander in the public build compared to the build i'll be sending you.

Because maybe it's just me but........ ah euh it makes a difference.

Tested the total commander in boot in a normal folder and also boot in the windows folder (the heaviest) and both seemed A LOT faster....
9 seconds to 7 seconds (counted second in my head ;)) so big improvement!

Thanx, i restored the functionality by creating some shortcuts (oh i love total commander).
I believe for best usability (you know i'm a fan of this), the shortcuts should not be present in the Windows folder, but a subfolder as the settings program creates new shortcuts in the Windows folder when changing them, so more mess in there.
bah i hate mess (to organised in life, disorganised in mind ;))

Still not have the keyboard (qwerty) settings and T9 working correctly, in dutch of english... but havent tried changing the total regional setting of WM.
And btw what happend to the +1 amsterdam timezone???????

Yeah Opera and keyboard issues, I will have to keep an eye on Phouki's Opera thread and see how these issues resolved. I have kept using an older version of the Opera 9 browser because it's been pretty stable, but an upgrade is something i will of course test out, but not planned in the current nearby planning.

Hm Palringo, haven't tried that one but it does seem to have file transfer i will play with that one.
Can you check if disabling Power/Data Saving Mode option changes this behaviour?
(yes already testing it and like it a lot better then fring Visually and in User experience, but still the shortcoming of not being able to send files even though you can snap a pic and send it)
And Fring has Skype support which Palringo again misses.
Haven't had Palringo Close itself yet (power settings off)


I have this eager plan to kick MSN out of rom, and am franticly trying to get a license distribution agreement with some of these multi chat clients.

I noticed some things:
- in the menu structure of settings the admin tools are displayed under network and not under system (where it is using the normal windows interface)
- some shortcuts in the startmenu don't have the correct icon, but I am sure this will be perfect in the final build ;)
- the contact button (right soft button) isn't set to the contacts menu jet, I used the softkey app and worked perfect.

And something else, I always "underclock" my device using the dynamic scaler to 100Mhz to save battery when it is idleing. Never seen this in any rom though, why is that?
my settings are:
low: 100
org: 201
max: 247 (sometime also 273)
boost: 299 (tomtom for example ;))

I also have noticed this, but more in the sense of a delay when opening the new menu. First screens loads oke, but scrolling to the right has a delay of a couple of seconds.
Doing the finger action several times is processed and stored afterwards, because after a period all these actions are processed and the screen starts scrolling and scrolling.

Yup hadn't noticed that, No idea why that is, as that part of Mort Buttons should simply be mimicking the default lay out.

Yup I first just made the simple to exe shortcuts to find out which ones would be without the icon's

I posted a few above that i have allready fixed that one. This is because of this standard bug in Elf roms that when you change the 113 key in the registry. So sometimes after a restart it's gone. So the fix is a very small mort script that resets that registry key at every boot and it can also be run to fix it though the start up manager.

I know that i use very save settings as a default for the scaler. Because that fact that when you go to low you can see some screen flicker in the refresh rate. To be on the safe side i set it to 188 whee this does not happen to safe the screen from dying prematurely.

Sort of like cooking windows for your PC.
And at the very least take out defender and euh superfetch.
Yes i have a vew different versions of Vista laying around together with a very nice Windows XP 2005 SP3 with a default different skin and some crap thrown out ;)

As for MMS i did find a few settings in a place where they do not belong so this is my next test.

ive finnally come back! had a nice vacation and yur allready in release canidate mode wow!! ive also worked on a little project of my own, a spb ms2.1 theme that the background changes as the weather changes similar to beyondinvisable and greatballs theme but im using a city theme instead of forests and stuff...

the new skins for the xml today screen are noice but way to busy for my standards and way to cartooney, noonski any concepts of what the skinning will look like??? im like a kid waiting to open his christmass presents!... i think it should be a professional skin nice and functional with not alot of clutter

I have started on something that is basicly build on "for now" the T-Mobile Grey Background. I will use it as the base for all the Stuff i will start skinning. Eventually until the final design is ready all that needs to be done is replace the backdrop. But i but all this into the Development thread.

Also made new HTCHome tab icons. testing them out now.

Vista loses connection a lot of times through device Center.

So what i do is Mannually reset device into bootloader with USB unplugged.
Start up RUU then put in USB and continue RUU.

So i always flash from Bootloader.

Because sometimes when i do the regular way either Vista simply lost connection and cant find the device (i flash a lot) or it looses connection right after device resets into bootloader.

But indeed using a Long Tap or Kill Complete it does close Wifi, as if it as actually runing the Wifi itself.

Nope it preloads the graphics into memory, i have already reduced them as much as i can.

Only needed to change the timezone.
But also needed the other settings confirmed working in ProvXMl

So i could carry these over to my private XML file i use during UC SDAutorun.
Expect to find some alarms allready preset to a time in these nighlties.

I have to combine stuff and information I need into the flashing ;)
And i sometimes need to retest Reg settings I have forgotten, so many to play with.

No OneNote because of the better integration of the regular Notes.
I see this as a shortcoming of MS side.

Maybe the desktop side of One note offers more flexibility, i don't know.

But for most regular users just having the regular notes (which are stored nicely in Pim.Vol for easy backupping) should be enough.

Adding OneNotes as an extra would mean a double functionality. (also removed Office Zip vor total Command)

Opening Tiff files still works BTW from Office.

So I hope this is an acceptable Executive decision.

Which brings us to the double I browser.

Removing PIE might be an idea, i have however not done this before and don't know what kind of influence this will have on other apps.

It's an excellent idea, and in practice, it makes my Elfin into a completely new device. I was starting to get bored of my Elfin, almost went out and bought a Kaiser, but then I found this rom! :p

I do have a couple of bugs to report though:

1) I have never had success overclocking my touch with BS. Even with my overclock at max 221, my device becomes unstable, soft-resets all the time, and generally becomes a pain. After disabling the OC in BS, my device still was a little unstable (it would just turn off when not being used for more than 10 minutes), but this may or may not be related to something else (S2U2 was the only other thing I had installed), after playing with some settings, these problems seem to be gone. Might be a good idea to let people set the OC themselves in case that their touch is like mine and doesn't like to OC.

2) I changed a setting in Personal->General Settings->Handling->Finger Gestures. Changed "To Left" from whatever the default was to Prev. main menu (This makes more sense for me, but to each his own) and soft reset. Now I can swipe up and get the task manager, but when I try to swipe either left or right for menus, it just closes. I've tried to set it back to the default (and soft reset of course), but it still does the same thing, just shuts down when I try to swipe right or left. I suppose I might have to hard reset to get this working again for now.

3) Due to my above problem (#2), I'd like an easy way to get to Total Commander or a file manager of some kind, but there does not seem to be a way to do this without using the swipe menu system. I think it might be an idea to at least put a couple of shortcuts to important programs like this in the start menu (or in another accessible place, HTC Home Launcher maybe) in case something happens like my above problem.

2 Still need to report that Bug to Mort.
I also found that, that's why i stuck with this setup.
I will always keep Mort Buttons updated and check if this behaviour changes.

3. You could consider FtouchFlo and set Up Down swipe (not in the menu) to start your fave app.
I played with it but found it to screw up using keyboards correctly.
Or set it to HTC Home as Fav App.
But i will include it as an Appbutton....

one more thing man...... after selecting & using the diamond qwerty keyboard the device gets quite slower sometimes & again becomes normal as soon as u change the sip to something else....

It's because the diamond input methods are quite resource heavy.. I've noticed that the most responsive HTC phonepad is the original one (e.g. the one from Magician), I've kind of decided to get used to the diamond one because even though it' definitely not as responsive as the original, at least it allows me to input spaces (i.e. the 'Tab' button on the phonepad)
If anyone knows how to fix the Magician phonepad to enter spaces in wm6.1, I would be forever grateful! Haha :)

I don't know if you change something (from public to private 46 or 47) in that way but when I flash .47, MyMobiler for the first time, manage to install itself on the phone.

Each time i install mymobiler, when i flash, the application can't autoinstall itself. I had to redownload the installer and install it again from the PC.

This time I install it on the public, flash 46, (reinstall MM), flash 47 and now it's ok !

Bu i can now also give a better anwser as i'm not in a hurry.

I mortcook this Rom, something no one else is doing.

Gives me Complete control of what happens at first boot second boot and even third boot.
It also helps me get the most juice out of the performance while still using a lot of space.
It is a deadly technique, not used by anyone but two warriors, one from the east and one from the west.

Together they fight to free the world of the forces of, makalalamoetapramkideshaman.

Oh and it has the cube replaced with a new menu syste (two years old at least but again not used in roms)

And because of a lack of hardware buttons on the Touch (i'm oldskool) all Hardware and software buttons have extended menu's.

Please just flash it, you would propably change your words ;)

I find that on my side it even disables itself after a while.

I don't know about your provider, but on most providers being connected To GPRS does not bring any costs, downloading does.
BatterySatus has built in meter to count data Transfer. So unless something is set to Sync or Weather Page of HTCHome is set to your City, nothing is actually connecting to I-Net.

The flicks and swipes took me a few days to adjust to (finding stuff) but now, IMHO even the hicups are easy to live with compared to the bloated, slow HTC ROM. I can install the hogs I want (Audible and Googlemaps) along with my considerable exchange server data and still have a workable phone. I do wish Opera was more cooperative tho. Or maybe I just can figer it out.

Yes i have admitted my half sin.

I have always liked this greyish T-Mobile Theme.

I look around and looked at a lot of backgrounds.

Also looked at the previous surface theme and found the main problem (even how delicately nice it was) that having a specific pattern interfered to much with Stuff on your home screen.
So i'm using the pattern a lot as it isn't very disturbing, but i am aplying some changes here and there, like reducing the gradient to the light a bit, (making it less gradient and a bit darker).

So basicly it's what you always do, you take something that is good and make it better, but i'm happy the reactions are positive. As you know this is what has been breaking my head the most.

Now building one with the dialer and random acces skinned.

I'm saving the definite home screen for last.

Because i might oull HTCHome to the bottom, then stretch BTstatus and use it's new Swiping function to switch Home plugins.

Well officially Opera is still beta, And i know what you mean, But it's incomparable wit PIE

And i haven't even update to Phouki's newest version so if any of you finds a version that is better don't hesitate to holler.

Opera is the main storage thief in the Rom making it less then Slim but more then stock.

At the moment the only thing that might differ is Network wizard in Rom or out of rom.

In rom would only benefit travelers, as most only use the setup once.
So one extra install to SD would not do harm.

It will free up around 1.5 MB storage. Now for me i know i don't need it in rom and i can even make an installer that will work for everyone on any rom that doesn't have the correct registry settings to make it work. I'd be doing everyone a bigger favour making that cab then cooking it into the Rom.

It's a decision i just can't make.

Next up i will look at the Administrative Tools thin. I know it's not really a big deal but hey.

And as i'll be comparing registry keys i'll also start setting Different Keyboard. i don't mind changing it back for myself.

Rec'd the notification and it said that would need to suspend current ops to download (nothing but gsm on at the time). I said yes, seemed to download but nothing there. Then when I clicked the icon in the MMS it offered to download, went through the above routine again. Then said it couldn't find the file to download. May only be me or sender. But ...

It installs google and a script that cleans up the shit it leaves behnind in windows\AppMgr\

And installs default to SD and can then be run from any ROM by starting a specific exe file it installs to the SD card that then instals the shortcut to your start menu.

I still need to fix one more thing when i get home.

Hey Noonski... Lovin' the rom so far - have always sworn by Shadows builds, but this is way up in my rankings!

Have a small problem though, currently on the RC1 build, and wanted to flash RC2, so I ran PIMBackup but got some error msgs:

"The appointments file "\Application Data\Volatile\clogs_20080816.pbl" couldn't be added to the backup file, an internal error (2) occured.

Hey Noonski... Lovin' the rom so far - have always sworn by Shadows builds, but this is way up in my rankings!

Have a small problem though, currently on the RC1 build, and wanted to flash RC2, so I ran PIMBackup but got some error msgs:

"The appointments file "\Application Data\Volatile\clogs_20080816.pbl" couldn't be added to the backup file, an internal error (2) occured.

But then, I flashed the SurfacePubliCbeta r2 and lost the wifi internet again. So, it seems that something here is messing with the wifi inet routing.

Spoke too hasty. Wifi connection quit again. intermediate on/off. my network setup w same, no MAC filter. After looking more closely at what is going on. think Touch is not getting DNS. Advanced tab in wlan says "associated to network".

now outside editing in opera and found out i need to use a white font in the phone dialer it's to hard to see in sunlight.

calculator font is allright though.
Tested more apps here nothing going on with Wifi here it works fine throughout all.

Good question.

I never do a lot of multi tabeed browsing in Opera just a quick lok at XDA, an edit here and there, but not heavy browsing.

I do knowm that making Flash work in Opera would sure kill your memory, but at the a few minutes rate i have used it i still had enough memory left (around 9/10MB) but no messages.

this is just what i have experienced as i don't do hardcore browsing on it.

Well i just finished the Calculator P&L skins.

And the Dialer Skin with white For the Fonts so its more usable in Sunlight.

I think that is an important Detail.

But also on the last builds where i turned of Overclocking it looks like is now using up more memory then it did before, it might be just me.

Next nightly up in 30. Then i go finish the MP3 Trimmer. Sorry correction i'm working on the Easier Streaming Media Skin.

Well, the thing is it's not happening with me and some others.

So check the BT Settings.

Start >> Settings >> System Tab >> Administrative Options >> BatteryStatus >> Tools Tab >> Taskmanager Settings >> Make sure "Close by Tapping on X" is disabled & enable "Close by Tapping and hold on X"

Skinning is going to take a little while.
For most apps it's one day for landscape and one for Portrait.

1. the network wizard is an older one. dosnt give me full support for India. so a newer network wizard with full support is needed.
2. the esmertec jbed is also an older version. dosnt give full screen support & also sometimes i hav problem in connecting with internet.
3. The htc streaming media is not workin. always says 'file type not supported'. so i think the older version was better.
4. word suggestion & word completion is not working in keyboard.

would love to see this things corrected in the final version....

All I can do about this is update Opera and hope for the best.

This version of the network wizard used to come with different packages of world regions.

I haven't checked the newer version from Diamond and opera but these add either 400 or 600 kb but i'll add it nonetheless. (maybe i'm lucky and it has the correct NL settings for T-mob)

And here i was thinking it was a new version of Jbed.
Any Cab for this can help.

3. We'll soon find out if the TouchPro Streaming Media is Qvga compatible. and if this actually has anything to do with the version build instead of me finding out it is a simple reg edit after breaking my head researching it for days ;)

Number 4 has been bugging me as i don't understand it.
When i use the Diamond keyboard i get word prediction and completion.

Maybe someone can point me to a rom with the expected behaviour, because i don't understand whart isn't working.

Hickups? Well the Menu's have become a bith smoother now, Havoc can testify.
I've been running it with cube animation and compared to how it was running before it's a lot better, without lag.

If you can post the cabs i can make them extra SPecial.

I did have trouble with receiving MMS today. Anyone else? I don't usually use it, so don't kno if it has anything to do with ROM. Rec'd the notification and it said that would need to suspend current ops to download (nothing but gsm on at the time). I said yes, seemed to download but nothing there. Then when I clicked the icon in the MMS it offered to download, went through the above routine again. Then said it couldn't find the file to download. May only be me or sender. But ...

Well eventually making different styles is the easiest to apply to a rom so if it's not in the initial version it might be in the Bareda Remix Version :D

Well, the TS skin for HS++ can be made up and added as an addon cab (not within the ROM) if the chief (Noonski) approves :D Although the XML coding and Mort scripting is in learning stages with full force :) Its only the skins which will make the difference

Noonski, love the little extra skinning on BS already. You did add the Calendar under the mortbuttons menu, but not in the startmenu, can you add that for backward compatibility?
Also the new integrated network wizard, seems to work okej, but auto would be better for usability... But your the chief :)

Connect your phone and wait until drivers are installed correctly and phone is recognized in WMDC 6.1. Then the connection should be stable and a sync with your Office Outlook should have taken place.
This could take multiple tries before connection is created right, use the WMDC to verify this
Extract all the shit for the rom flash
Rightmouseclick on ROMUpdateUtility.exe and use "Run as Administrator" Probably important
Follow the steps as normal, when device goes into boot (triocolor) mode, Vista will detect a new device and begin installing drivers for this.
Here comes the nag... Because driver install is to slow, the flash program will time-out, just exit it.
Wait until drivers are installed properly again for the bootdevice. Leave the Touch on and run ROMUpdateUtility.exe again.
Device info will be blank since in bootmode, but flash can commence.
Gray screen with process bar will appear and flash will go as usual...
TADA!!!!

There is only one Vista Method.

3. streming media is workin well. bt bit of skinning problem is there at the bottom. so i overwrote it with the one given below. its the same version bt no skinning problems.works perfect

4. the icon of the 'personal' tab is missing.

5. now about the word suggestion- as far as i know word suggestion & completion is given by two methods here- XT9 & windows default word suggestion. XT9 comes with htc keyboards & when XT9 works it overtakes the windows default method. in the cloudyfa rom there was no touch keyboard & hence no XT9.so the windows default method used to work. now in this rom XT9 is there & its working with diamond keyboard. bt its not workin with the plain keyboard. & as XT9 is here the windows default method is also not workin. now i hav no idea how to tackle this.one option may be removing the diamond keyboard & keypads bt it dosnt seem much realistic.

Jup this was explained earlier up the posts, the last nighlty was just to test the fixes i did not adjust the menu's and links to the apps.
Small Fish to fix and on my list.

This is very mysterious indeed, did you run it through the control panel apple?
I'll test it to after playing some more with my pro.
But if this is true There isn't a lot that i know that would fix it (maybe). Everythings set up correctly.

Thought so to, although i have seen the older Touch Dual Keyboard work with regular word prediction withn default keyboard.
So this looks like a hard choice leaning towards the Diamond keyboard (just a skinned Dual Keyboard)

Well Next week when i get my Diamond replacement device my Pro's going to Cmonex so she can test the USB capabilities.

I know it's might sound weird but if there is a posibility that the Mini USB can act as an actual USB host (which it allready can in Bootloader mode on the Touch Pro) Lending the device untill they have enough donations or get everything tested they need testing)

Nope That Cab is the same that i was using before (Same provisioning Cab and files)
But it does list India in th Provisioning Files? Both in the Kaiser and the Version i was using.

So i agree the error when you restart the the Connection App is pretty anyoing.
Back to the old version then and try to Fix The Provisioning File (way in the Future)
NTW Juvs Cab file was an older version But TNX for the comparison file, still usefull. (but the same provisioning file thought)

I did write a tutorial on how to change the information in the provisioning file hut that has magically disappeared:confused:

ya i think its better to switch back to the previous version... Actually im using Airtel in India which has got 3 types of gprs- Mobile Office, NOP & Airtel Live. it has got the settings for Mobile Office right (Airtel internet settings). but it does not hav the settings of NOP & Airtel Live. however i can configure those things manually so it does not matter very much.

Sometimes the touch keyboard is to big IMHO ..

The dutch T9 doesn't work here, it this a know issue? When i use the Dutch T9 the keyboard freezes.

now this is something i hav found out recently & thought i should report to the chief... it seems that i hav got back the windows default word suggestion!& i got it back when i installed PCM keyboard(v 0.14)! the word suggestion was working with all the keyboards except diamond keyboard & keypad. & not only that... with PCM keyboard installed & word suggestion back, the XT9 stopped functioning & the diamond keyboard & keypad started malfunctioning too.i was unable to type letters with the diamond keyboard & keypad.it only entered numbers when i pressed any of the keys. the diamond qwerty was functioning normally. now when i uninstalled PCM, again the default keyboard word suggestion was gone & XT9 came back & diamond keyboard & keypad started functioning normally. now who can explain this strange behaviour of the diamond keyboard & keypad?

You have to select "restart later" and then finish installation.

You need to install an Extra Cab for Dutch for It Works ;)

Since the Keyboards are Cabs That is something i will check and try to fix (Not My Expertise, but heck) From Gullums Cab's

Looking at your IPL and SPL version it looks like you don't need to remove your Storage Card Anymore.

And that Ussually is what that message Means.

I can Fix this even if there is no Storage Card, By Creating a folder called \Storage Card\My Documents\ on the Root of the Device.

The Issue is, Mort cannot unzip to a directory that does not exist, BUHUT, it can unzip a complete Folder Structure.

I'll Check, No Worries here.

For now you prolly don't have a Windows Media Player Skin.

Look for the WMP.zip file in Windows folder

Unzip it into a folder

\Storage Card\My Documents\Windows Media Skins\

If anyone is interested.
The unzip line is in the \Windows\CLASC.MSCR

UnzipAll( "\Windows\WMP.zip", "\Storage Card\My Documents\Windows Media Skins" )

I put this unzip line at the end of the install script so it wouln'd break the whole Script.

You could try Running the Script again tho.

Also did you notice the rest of the Script Finish at First Boot?

i cant send or receive mms for some reason, with a couple of versions now of this ROM. have tried installing newer arcsoft mms too, still no dice, odd. if i put my sim in my dual, i can send/receive mms no problem, so something with this ROM. apart from that ALL GOOD :)
