Why are there so many Unknown?


Because they are not located in the mode9-Files. Manila Editor parses all qtc-filenames out of the mode9-files, and after that it generates groups from the full qtc-path (for example: "\Assets\Images\Home\123.qtc" -> groupname is "Home" and filename is "123.qtc".

All files which are unknown now are not used in the mode9-files. Maybe they are directly used in the luac-Files.


One request maybe? ....would be nice with the option to save the png files with the FriendlyName? :D

Another feature idea...

To be able to save the different files XML, Mode9 and LuaQ to different folders...
I find it difficult to separate them by myself....

I don't know if this would be something useful :rolleyes:
I just want to play around and try different files together... :p

Also, I noticed the "unknown" category has files from other categories, like weather, common, etc. Why weren't they sorted out? Problems reading my manila files perhaps?

as far as background editing is possible now, we can only create tiled images which will be shown in perspective view in manila.

I've attached a bmp as a guide, and ya guys can try your own colours. Also, you can choose to "smoothen" the edges of the square, as it was done originally.

You might want to choose a bright colour, as it will automatically dim when shown in manila.

The file for this image is: 6c658481_manila.
The other file mentioned earlier for background: 158f6f97_manila : seems to do nothing for me.

There might be a workaround (maybe changing a LUA script ?) since the Orange background, even if it might be perspective'd, is not tile'd.

i was back from work, switch on my home pc, check DPI (96 like i have mentioned before), move to 120 and than 96 again. close setting menu'.
i have done the same at my laptop and........

unsatisfied i have try again to use your AMAZING tool.....WORK, in both pc.
i am not a genius but this is very strange, Vista mystery!

maybe you know but any way i think better to write one time more than one less :)
if you are using a laptop and an external monitor, be sure that when you connect your pc to the display, DPI display setting still remain on 96.
for my work uses i am using an expernal disp. and when i connect it to the laptop DPI turn to 120.....
just a little worning in case to avoid you to become mad....

@all: If you run Manila Editor under Windows Vista and if your manila-files are still read-only and system-files, you have to run Manila Editor as administrator (you'll find this option in the context menu if you click with the right mouse button on 'manila editor.exe').

Or: Just deactivate the User Account Control (UAC) ;-)

I think he is. Btw. .net 2.0 and 3 can be installed on a windows machine.... Just paste this in your internet explorer and hit Enter: javascript:alert(navigator.userAgent)
Shows the version of .net installed on your SYSTEM and not your Device ;)

ehm... on windows it is not just possible to install 2.0 and 3.5 parallel, you have to do it! Because a .NET 2.0 application cannot run under 3.5 and a 3.5 application cannot run under 2.0. Also you have to install .net 1.0.

On Vista you have everything installed already. On XP SP2 .net 1.0 and .net 2.0 is included.

ehm... look at the screenshot in the first post and then think about it!

Also it is not possible to install the .NET Framework 2.0 on your device, because it is not available! Also .NET Framework 3.5 is not available for Windows Mobile. What you tried to install on your device was the .NET Compact Framework 2.0/3.5....

those are regular .tsk windows mobile themes, they're not diamond-specific. there's a bunch available on the net or on the forums for other htc's

Hey, Don't blame vista, I'm running vista 32bit, it's Ok for me. I don't have any error message with manila. May be because of 64bit so manila editor can't show the image. May be that's the problem.

No.. It's ok now... I had to run it as Administrator or turn of the UAC!
Now it's working perfect :D

(I never liked Vista, but I knew I had to change to It sometime... I guess I just have to get used to it :p)

Im running Manila Editor 0.2 on XP x64 and i have no promblems.
It might be that you should run it as admin just like DiamondBoy said=)
OT: i had no problem reading ur error message, since im norwegian. but then again i dont understad that "error message" language:S

you can't mess anything up with windows mobile .tsk themes. but googling it will yield a bunch. just on the first page (microsoft) i found something. is it what you were looking for? and don't worry, i tested it on my diamond, it works ;)

btw take image only as color reference, i couldn't get a better one.
ah, and remove the ".zip" part from the file name, it's only renamed .tsk due to attachment restrictions;)

A option to save the png files with custom names...?

When I save the manila files to png I give them a name like this...

[Manila]People-hero[1d2cf08e] = ["group"]"FriendlyName"["manilaName"]

Maybe you can have like a template save..

%1 = groupName
%2 = FriendlyName
%3 = manilaName

[%1]%2[%3] = [Manila]People-hero[1d2cf08e]

And in a case where it's Unknown it will ask for groupName and FriendlyName or just save as manilaName

Its just a suggestion ... It helps me to name 'em like this when I make themes :p

I try to chnage all the green background colors used for TF3D in HTC 1.93 ROM.
To do that I have used Manila editor for the 21 files where I could find green and change it for Red
It is Ok for TF3D but I have green color, in the .TSK file (HTC Black) I suppose.

You don't install it on the Diamond. You run it on a PC, edit whatever manila files you want, export them, and transfer to the diamond.

Then you've been looking in the wrong place :p

Depending on what format the theme creator has used. Manila files can be copied to the Windows folder. Theme files can be imported using TF3D config (theres a separate thread on this).

I have tried using this program and am usually pretty competent. I have replaced all of the green things with pink and it has worked perfect. The only problem i am having is when it comes to the icons. The only icon that replaced is the mail one. the rest are just white boxes. any idea why? i am ready to just say forget it!!!

Hey guys.
I haven't found a place for suggestions or feature requests, so I'm posting here.

I like the way you've sorted the files in sections. E.g. "Home" and "InternetPortal".
Though you give no way of sorting the files under these, but the filename in alphabetical order. Now alphabetical order is the best way, but let's face it. The filenames don't give any meaning for any other then you guys.

So how about the possibility to choose to order by the Friendly name? Like in Windows, where you click the column name. Then you could choose between filename and friendly name as you please.
I know, it is a small feature, but the small things are often the most important. :)

But other then that, your work is great. At first I found it insane to go through file with notepad and hex editors, but I guess patience and time gives you what you are seeking.
I've tried a few themes and I love it. Looking forward to giving it at go myself.

Great tool. I get an exception though. Im running Framework 3.5 Vista 64bit.
It occurs when I try to replace a manila file. I press 'save as' jpg png or bmp ( doesnt matter ). Then press replace and select the file I just exported.

This is amazing im such an idiot to of not used this before.
Now you can FULLY customize your TF3D (im really psyched) Wooooooowwwww this is big!

Little walkthrough (from a noob to the noobs) I couldn't find straight up instructions on the thread so:

1.Use Total comander (http://www.1800pocketpc.com/tag/total-commander) go to the Windows file.
2.Using TC go to the select option.
--->And search for all "_manila" files.
--->Go to properties and unselect all the Attributes.
3.Then press copy and copy them to the Internal Storage on a file labeled My Manila or what ever.
4.Export that file to you pc.
5.Open (with Admin Power) Kickass Program Manila Editor.
6.You know the rest.
7.After editing
8.Reverse and overwrite the files after edit.

This is awsome.

Hi...

Having some problem with a manila image file... (It's the clock from Sprint TF3D)

I open the file (4a059ff8_manila) in Manila editor
Then saves it as png
Without doing anything with the png I press 'Replace' and loads the png...
But when I copy it to windows it just shows a white square where the image should be...
(like when a manila image file is missing)

I've tried different Headers but with no luck :(

Really would like this to work .. because it's the same with the background image...
So if we can get it to accept a custom image file then we probably can get a custom background image in all tabs!! :D

I've attaced the image manila file here...
So if u have the time ... maybe you can take a look at it?

I'm having the same problem also. I have had my Sprint Diamond for a few days and found this great program. I also tried restoring the backup copy to my phone and it still has the problem. I was only able to fox it with a hard reset. So far all other images I have changed have worked fine.

ahh .. but the god thing about Sprint background image is that its a 512x512 image :D

No problem, you guys are doing fantastic work. Just thought you might want to know that I don't think it is a resizing issue. I have not resized anything, just changed the hue and reloaded. I have found 3 files so far that do not work.

a lot of this work has already been done by elvelynn.
find his thread on here,he has a black/blue theme.
check his files with this program and take the manila
files you need out and overwrite them on your phone.
it works i did it with the red.
some of the green is part of the windows .tsk file
and you can only change these by changing the whole tsk
in settings>today.

I noticed that there is a limit to 2x2 in size when u try to replace the 'strange' images (lack for a better word :p)

But u can change the colours...

Hi guys, I tried to search the thread for this and it seems this is the only entry regarding black dots (excuse me if there are others and missed them), BTW, BIG Thanks for it as it makes my life a lot easier!!!

I'm using ver 0.2.0 and trying to extract images from an original Diamond unfortunately I noticed there are some black dots but only on some images so I wanted to ask, is there a fix for this or will be on the next release.

changed the icon
create a zip with only the changed manilla

copie the zip file to my phone, extract it within my phone to the windows directory
programs asks if i wan't to overwrite the old file

but when i overwrite the manila file on my phone
with the one in my zip file

nothing happens

My suggestions are simple actually.

I like the friendly name column, but it seems only to work when you have all the files in the same folder. So if that could be reworked to display the friendly name from the manila file name, so you always would have the friendly name. (Maybe a little description of the file, so you know where it is displayed on the device? Not all the friendly names are explanatory enough, I think.)
And again, if you could sorte the list by the friendly name, but still have them in categories, that would be nice.

And I'd like an import feature. The export feature is great.
But when you have made new PNGs, why not be able to import all your files with a mouse click? Of course, the file names of the PNGs need to be manila names, but thats what you export to, so no problem. Since I edit the PNGs directly.

And I'm not sure what the "Uncheck all" button is for. Anybody?

what about an import function?
I saved all the files as .png-files and modified most of them but now i have to import them one by one - it takes a long time to find the correct manila name and replace the original.... it would be great if you can build in a function that imports the modified files... (they still do have the manila-names, so it would be easy to reconvert them automatically...)
(or did i overlook a function like that??)


... and: do you think it would be possible to build in a preview window that shows the whole theme...

The Select Path is to open the folder that contains the manila files. It will open all the files in the folder. Click "Select Files" and highlight the folder where your manila files are(on your computer, not your phone), then click "OK".

That's what everyone would do, but after i selected the right folder there are no files shown. I want to edit the 26948339_manila for additional tabs, is there any file extension needed?

somehow you managed to get the filenames in the cab-file wrong...

instead of '1d2cf08e_manila' you get '1D2CF0~1.007'

try making a new cab file...

Do i need more appz installd on my pc. I installd winzip on my pc and now i can unzip and zip the file on my pc. Befor i only hade winrar, and whit winrar you can extract zipfiles. When I move the zipped files to the phone and extract the file it says, "not enough memory".

And all the files are 0% in winzip. But on the pc I can unzip them.

I have a solution of my problem. If I clear the windows (Generated with Manila Editor) and save the emty window. then the symbol down the right disappear. Then i can unzip the file in the phone. If its right, I dont know.

If you have failed to figure this out after reading the exact same questions repeatedly....and sorry if this sounds rude....then uninstall the program, close this thread and avoid trying anything like this again. best bet is to hope someone else makes a theme you like and can make it very easy to install.

Copy all your "manila" files from device /Windows folder to your PC and open those from the menu in Manila Editor...

This is the image that shows when you press the large internet icon. It is a wide bar with the glode on it. Looks similar to the HTC Black one, but the bar color is yellow instead of green. I changed the color of the bar and now the image does not show up at all. When I press the Globe icon, it just disappears then goes to the browser.

In the T-Mobile manilla there was a radio icon on the music tab. I now have a custom rom and that radio icon is gone.

When selecting the path, it will not display the files, just the folders. Select the folder your files are in and click on OK. It will load the files in the selected folder.

upload your 1e29e8e7_manila file and i'll have a look at it - could be as Nisse has just said... regarding the clocks... have you changed from the standard clock at all?

I actually am using the 'sprint2flipclock.cab" that also says in another post in the clock thread that it would "center icons".

I think originally folks were having issues with their sliders being off to the right, now mine(sliders) are off to the left. i actually removed the clock and it defaulted back to the sprint clock and the sliders (no matter which) were still off to the left. Right now i am using the default slider.

I attempted to use whiskybro's black diamond slider.

OK here is what fixed it. I noticed that the "wallpaperforalltabscab" was shifting folks sliders to the right. So I installed this cab and it centered my slider. problem solved.

So for anyone who's slider is off to the LEFT, wallpaperforalltabs.cab will center it(and of course put your wallpaper on all your tabs).

I created a image for the background and saved it as a manila file using Manila Editor. When I copy the files over, none of my TF3D screens have a background. If I restore the original (backup) background it works fine. I saved the image both as a .png and a .jpg. Does anyone have any knowledge on this? Thanks in advance!

I am experiencing the same "white out" issue when I install an updated file. I have attached the background file that I am trying to use, so maybe someone can look at it an tell me what is going wrong.

OK, so far the only solution for the white out issue I'm seeing is to manually edit the Manila that calls the image and edit it to refer directly to the PNG instead of the graphic manila file. An alternative, certainly, but such a pain since keeping track of all the manila files is complicated enough.

Has anyone identified a better solution?

I've attached the graphic I want to use if someone wants to take a stab at converting it properly. Otherwise, if someone points me in the right direction, I'll take care of it myself. :)

For those who uses Vista & encountered error after pressing "replace" button in Manila Editor, here's a helpful tip:

Since the Manila Editor is an .exe file, Vista users have to right click on the file & click on "run as administrator", this will give Manila Editor the full right to read & write files.

Is there anyway I can view/edit *_manila files on my macbook pro. I won't install windows for this, it doesn't work in crossover and I can't work with a hex editor. Is _manila the file format, or is it something else (it looks like it works kinda like .exe and .dll cooperate (but I have very limited knowledge)). What is the required color format for images in manila files? I imported a few PNGs that are RGB with an alpha channel, and I'm seeing a few colors turn into gray patches.. If I re-export the image, I can confirm that the colors are indeed being replaced with gray...

Are you actually trying to use the editor on your phone... Umm, did you look at the screenshot? You need to fire it up on your PC (if Vista with UAC, you need to run it as an Administrator)

Hi there... I'm just getting started with Manila editor, and figured I'd quickly modify one of the *_manila graphics in the \windows directory on my Fuze. No problem using Manila editor to get, edit and replace the resource - but I am having a problem copying the file back to the \windows directory on the phone. For whatever reason, I don't have permissions to write to this folder ("*_manila could not be placed on the device. You do not have permission to create this item.).

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can unlock this folder or transfer files there directly?

You need to use a program like Resco Explorer or Total Commander to copy the files back to your Fuze. I use Resco, which costs a little but I believe Total Commander (I think that's what it's called) is free. Hope that helps!

I have read everything in the posts here and i cant seem to get an image to show up as a manilla file, i use manilla editor, to save the orignanl manila file that i want to replace, i then modify the image and save it as a png file with the 24 and transpareny setting, when i import the them and reboot phone the image that i replaced it whited out like its not being read right.. any help? thanks allot

Can you use .ico or do they have to be a image file (png, jpg, bmp)? Was wondering for the bottom navigation slider

I was getting the white out issue and asked for help but didn't get a response. After messing with the file a bit I learned that the actual file size has to be the same, I think for me it was 64kb I think. I can't remember of the top of my head. So...when i re-edited my graphic and import it into Manila Editor, that did the trick. HTH!

Now I have read through the whole topic, I realised that in the last 20 pages or so there is nowhere mentioned about an new update like 0.3 or something like that. Is the application still in development or has it stopped?

I snt forever and a day but I broke it down. I have the color in the fonts of the comm tab from Nisse. I have the call history tab. i have the comm manager tab. I also included the original manila file from my US touch pro in case you don't like it. But I have tested it all and it works perfect. Also included instructions in the Zip file. :)

Before this I had to hard reset my phone from all the damn bad cabs out there. Now I am confident that it works great. I included the white font or the gray from Nisse that works for the comm tab

i tried the communications and call history files with white font.. all install fine but as soon as i go to call history tab .. tf3d freezes.... any ideas?

All imported pics end up cut off ..tried resizing , shifting image. Just keeps cutting it off.

These were originally taken from the portrait icon sets for HTC T.Pro.
All I did was minor hue changes , one I changed entirely.

The "original" PNGs that were packaged with the icon sets have the same effect as above.

lol. Attached are 96 dpi versions.. I tried 3 different ways to get them to 96dpi and 128x128 , or straight resizing to 96dpi.

Nothing works all still chop up.

That opened up fine. I must be doing something wrong.:confused:

I open up the attached set of Manillas ... But regardless of the icons I pick they all squish to the bottom.
Does landscape have a different set of values needed I may be missing ?

Im on Vista and using PScs3 if it makes a difference.
