Look here the best tutorial for this program!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=414861

If u want to learn some more about the manila files this tutorial is kick ass!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=399212&highlight=manila

Just remember... read everything till the end! Very important

Please can this be tagged to the 1st post for fellow noobs like myself, since guidance on this programme doesn't readily jump out using the search forum function therefore just took 30 minutes reading every post.

EDIT: No guidance on use, as directed above but the Manilla files thread is pretty useful for the unintiated

FYI

But the manila files are located in \Windows\ directory (Hidden Files). If you want to see the manila files with manila editor, you must copy them directly on your PPC with Total Comander or Resco Explorer for example on Internal Storage and after, copy them on your computer.

You will be able to search the path with manila editor and show them

Sebastien

if you set to see ALL the files (hidden, system...) in windows, you can copy them directly from /windows/ in Diamond to PC :D

Just noticed that there is no tutorial on 1st post (as directed above!!)

however these two post offer some advice on how to actually view files

Wow, it took me 2 days to get through all the thread, but at least found out about the Run as Admin for Vista on page 29! :D

I'm also experiencing the white out issue when trying to replace the 'Manila_Sprint_bg.qtc' graphic in 4a087e41_manila. I edited the (AT&T logo for me) graphic in PS, maintaining 512x512, 72 dpi, PNG-24 w/ trans. Once I upload it back to Fuze and restart TF3D, all is white, including the home screen where I had a wallpaper set. Has anyone determined the cause of this issue? I'm using Manila Editor 0.2

I'm itching to get started with this program, but unfortunatly, I also installed some programs on my diamond that requires net CF 3.5.
And it seems that Manilla editor doesn't work with that version.

So my big question is,... will there be a release soon, that works on net CF 3.5??

Hello,

I don't know if anyone else has had this problem and I apologise if this has been covered in this thread (i have read pretty much all of it) but I have copied all my manila files to my SD card which i can see using total commander - however when i look at the folder via active sync I only see two files.

Any ideas?

i had the same problem and decided i wouldn't use the background. i simply exported as a png file, opened in PSP and resized to 1x1 pixel, then copied back to the phone and it's no longer present on the screen.

So this stuff is addictive... not sure if I should say thanks or not!!!
Let's go with thanks....
So... I'm playing around with different files etc and I like the crystal clock, maybe with no flip card background... anyway.... I like the analog clock because you can move it around. So my question is... how can I change the size of the crystal clock and move it off to a corner?
Any help would be greatly appreciated... thank you.

Sorry for the noob question, but there are too many pages in this thread and I didn't see the instructions next to the download. I'm sure if I search long enough I'll find it, but could someone help me out? How do I use the Manilla editor on my Fuze? I assume that I unzip it, copy the folder to my storage card or internal memory and open the .exe file. What next????

I placed a flip clock on my Fuze using Manila customizer, but the digits remain at 00:00, unless I flip it out of the way, in which case I can see the true time. I'd like to know how to fix this as well.
Help is appreciated!
Thanks!

If you're all having so much trouble with Manila Editor why not try the CFC editor?

The relevant thread is here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=437777).
EDIT: Actually, go here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470798) instead.

Not to blow my own horn or take a stab at Manila Editor's authors, but both image encoding and decoding quality is much better than Manila Editor.

Hey guys,

have a look at 60f72df8_manila.

This is included in ALL themes, so there is still one more hidden tab (like call history).

We need the name for it so we can activate the tab :)

known pages are "home.page", "messaging.page", "weather.page", etc. we need the name "???.page" for what 60f72df8_manila standing for.

this looks like a favorites page

Is this off topic; I hope not.
I simply wanted to say that, having followed these threads about 'Manila' through from the start, I am so very impressed and heartened by the spirit of selflessness, camaraderie, and determination shown by all those who have contributed here.
One so often hears of all the negatives in the world and within the internet, and to watch so many people from around the globe working together with a common aim, that is helpful to each other and to all of us, is wonderfully uplifting. It says so much about what the good 'average' people of the world are really like.
OK, you can stop being sick now :)
I don't BEGIN to understand most of it! Unfortunately computers weren't around when I was a young chap or I know I would have been in there with you, but I'm a bit up in the tooth to learn now. I'm trying to follow it though, because I still kid myself that one day I will be able to program for computers in an amateurish sort of way.
So THANK YOU one and all and may your God bless you :)

Dave

BTW, I am nobody special, just another bod with a Blackstone.

Hi Guys!

I've searched days and could not found one post about how to actually:

- Use the program properly
- Where are the default theme's manila files
- How to create a .theme file

I started playing aound with Manila Editor v2., but I was only able to find the manila files of the theme (XenRed) that I applied previously (root windows folder). Now, I copied it over to my machine, and then created a new graphic, then I replaced it with my own. After this I copied it back to the phone (HTC Diamond still turned on) and I overwrote the manila that I modified on the machine NOTHING happened.

Than I rebooted. Still nothing.

- Should I uninstall Diamond TF3D config?
- The change only occurs, if I change the whole set?
- Can I just change idividual manila files, and than see the result?

Any help would be much appretiated!

I am trying to create a Fallout 3 style Theme for myself, but I cannot make it work.

You know what??? I'm ready to firebomb this damn app... I'm beginning to think that these threads all eluding to how easy it is to simply replace a file or edit a file using the manila editor is just a bit farse...

Nothing, even detailed tutorials (like this one: http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=44689) don't tell you how you get to the original files so that you can modify them - which folders to copy to where and if the windows folder is the one to copy, how do you do this???? i can't even find the png files everyone is talking about...

I don't mind being relegated to the number of themes others have craftily figured out how to build -

i just want to do two stupid things:
1) change the background on screens other then the "Home Page" to an image of choice

2) change the internet search engine to google from that horrific yahoo/att page

CAN SOMEONE PLEASE DUMB THIS DOWN FOR ME??? I just can't figure out where to get the original files from or how to direct the editor to the files properly...

I thought copying the backup folder for manila would contain this info but it doesn't appear to and requires the user to drill down to the lowest folder - like "clocks" or the like...

signed - incredibly frustrated

Try using the "CFC GUI" editor instead.

Thanks,

tried it but still won't edit the file I want... it will edit most others but not this one, same with Manila editor. I just get the file showing up in the Mode 9 tab and then I can do nothing with it. the others show up in the QTC tab and I can work with them. Any pointers? What am I doing wrong? I have file on my computer and can see it and open it in manila ed. but then I can't do anything else!

there is a problem with Manila editor using: saving the original as png and then replace the original file with the original png file.
After that the icon is not shown correct.-
see screenshot.
Anybody a solution?
regards
gandalf

EDIT : The only"solution" I find is to take CFC Gui. Am I the only one with this issue?

For backgrounds, I suggest you use HDWALL. Its so much easier and faster to created several background wallpapers. info here:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=503511

I created a CAB for you with a "all black background" using HDWALL.

***credit should go to Marinell0, the creator of HDWALL***

note: i tested this on my TP2 only. not sure if this will work with other phones.

When I have "Display message on screen" enabled in - Start>Settings>Sound & Notifications>Notifications tab>Event: Messaging: New text message. It displays the text on the screen when you receive a new text message as shown here:
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e336/Curb71/ScreenShot1.jpg
When I push the Menu right soft key I get this:
http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e336/Curb71/ScreenShot3.jpg
What I want to do is get rid of those 4 choices that appear when I push the Menu right soft key. I want the Menu right soft key to say "Save as read" instead. Hopefully it will fit. Hopefully its possible. I dont use the other 3 choices. All I need is the left soft key which is Reply and the right soft key to say "Save as read" (or "Dismiss" if Save as read does not fit in that space). I checked the registry and its no where to be found so I assume this has to do with manilla and I hope some of your vets can help me out. Thanks.

I am getting this message when I am trying to replace a image. What am I doing wrong?

Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click quit, the application will close immediately.

The type intilizer for "Manila_Editor.QTCConverter" threw an exception.

Susanna

I'm getting the same error. Any suggestions?

I've recently loaded Shak's 4.2 rom and I can't seem to edit the manila files on that. They show up as a scrambled mess.

Not sure which ROM I had before, but I could edit those very easily.

Suggestion too.....
Since most of the images are white, it makes sense to have a dark background to display the images and not white.

Any ideas?

Love the app. Great work !!

Is there a technical reference for the QTC format?

I'm working on a Visual Studio solution for panoramic wallpapers and I need to create (I think) QTC's from PNG files programmatically. But I don't understand the QTC and CFC files references and how they relate to all those manilla files in Windows -- 682089BB_manila, 6844babd_manila, etc.

Hem, I might sound like an idiot, but after reading and searching the thread thoroughly I still do not know if this manila editor is what I was looking for. It is not even clear if the applications runs on PPC or on desktop..!? The only thing I want to do is to extract the Manila-icons as .png or .ico images to use them in a rlToday/MortButtons based skin (without running manila at all, like "minimal" GUI's). Please tell me, is this going to help me?

What are the forums opinion on the manila editor working on the Verizon Imagio?

This is essentially a Diamond 2. I really need to be able to repurpose the touchflo Icons for our company

Happy to Donate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ü

it seems that the manila-file system has been changed between the versions... the old manila file (ver 2) can be edited with the Editor, the manila files from the Manila 2.5 can't be edited anymore..:mad::mad::mad:

need an update from the author

To anyone looking for a more recent Manila editing app, I highly recommend Chainfire's CFC GUI (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=470798). It's far more user friendly, and completely compatible with the new Manila files :D
