Hi,

I noticed a lot of people are having issues flashing their ROMs and posting the same question over and over. Why don't we have a list where people can look up their error code and then have a suggestion for a solution. We could link this list from the main sticky thread. Thus they don't have to keep asking the same questions over and over about Error 270 etc.. It could also be a useful reference to others.

after varios kind of cid unlockers (soft uspl by Oli, JumpSPL, and the new one patched 1.19.xxx) i have PROBABLY cid unlocked device .mtty says:

Well may it will helps.

As your device says: g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 0

It means that it's half unlocked, so your device most show g_cKeyCardSecurityLevel = 00 to be complete unlocked, at this point you can flash cooked or dumped ROM and a few shipped roms but not all (that's your case).

You can do...

1st way - flash your device with the USPL on this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320155&highlight=USPL), once you get your device unlocked flash it with any ROM. Once you have flashed your desired rom flash it with any version of SPL - IPL that you want.

2nd way - Get or build a dumped version of that RUS version rom that you want and flash it. May by you can find dumped or cooked versions of RUS roms here:

solved after many tries with cooked Elf_Rus_2.30.003.0B. rom

without using USPL. , so i think seclevel also can be "0" not only "00"
strange thing is why after supercid does not accept "other" original roms, like other same (elf) devices...

Hello guys!

I just upgraded my touch to the touch surface 1.31 software. Everything went fine, but as soon as i put the sd card back, the phone restarts and gives the smart screen. After that, I reinstalled an original ROM, then installed the touch surface again (because there was a fault on the sd card, which i fixed) but now i have the same problem. You guys think it's the sd card which causes the problems?

Now the 2nd problem is, when I start the phone, i directly get the bootscreen (with those colors). USB connectivity is ok (not with activesync, but just to flash it) The problem is, the original rom which i used first does not install...
It gets to 3% and says ERROR 294: INVALID VENDER ID.
I'm getting really desperate and it made me suffer a big headache,, Does someone know what to do?

Did you flash any USPL to get the Touch Surface installed on your device?
You might have an Elf and flashed the Elfin USPL (which is wrong). Or You have an Elfin and flashed the Efl USPL (wrong again). Anyways, check the sticky thread at the top of the page.. the one that says "AVOID CONFUSION AND DAMAGE".. ;)

I have flashed the ELF_USPL_1.17.0000 on it, but as you told, i appear to have an elfin (128/256).

What do you suggest i should do?

Your bootscreen still says 2.26, so that means you don't have 1.17 (the patched SPL, or also known as USPL) on it.

Unzip the following file..


- Copy Cert_SPCS.cab and EnableRapi.cab to your device, run them and then reset your device.
- Remove SIM card and memory card.
- Run elf-uspl.exe in Windows, wait for the white screen and then let the Rom Update Utility flash IPL 2.27 and USPL 2.28.
- If the white screen does not appear, reset and run elf-uspl.exe again.
- Now you can flash any cooked ROM you want straight from the Rom Update Utility (no need to remove anything or wait for a white screen.. just run the Utility to flash it, that's all)

What do you mean it won't work? You have to be more specific if anyone can help you. What did you do and what error message, etc. did you see?

EDIT: I forgot that you are stuck at the boot loader. So all you need to do is simply run the RomUpdateUtility (don't run Cert or EnableRapi or elf-uspl.exe) and flash the ROM instead. Did you try that?

This error code surfaced when I tried to flash the Blue Elves version 5.0 WM 6.1 and also when upgrading the radio to version 03.21.90. I did active synch my HTC touch Elf with my Pc before upgrading. The description for the error code is : Not able to detect the USB connection with the PDA.

the very 1st thing u hv to do is remove sim card n memory card...then try doing the uspl spl...u wl get it..bt u may hv 2 check it if done correct..wen it is done correct..then only the update will happen...

I got a Elfin too, the way I got my Elfin flashed is using the USPL, when it came to the second phase (two 100% shown) , you might got white screen shown on your elfin, then started your romupdate utility straight from the rom you download from XDA,(there usually came with a ROMUpdateUtility.exe), if the flashing not suggsess, then tried again the USPL, mostly you'll got it flashed! Just don't give up, I'd been tried even four time USPL to get the white screen. "you must got your Elfin white screen to get the flash work!"

Then, 270 appears,

I'm trying to translate a rom, just change the .mui, the initflashfiles and some registry (like folders). When try to flash, goes to 4% and stops: Error 228 invalid file size. I was looking in the wiki, but not found the 228.

I got this when i tried to flash for test purposes an EXT_ROM rom upgrade that is supposed to be a WM6.1 upgrade, it was shared by si1425 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/member.php?u=824456) claiming that this recovered his bricked device.

Sorry, what do you mean it's charged 100%? You mean the upgrade made the battery meter go to 100?

I think I know your problem. if it's an ExtROM upgrade and your current ROM (such as a cooked ROM) does not have the ExtROM partition (10 MB) created, then it won't be able to write to any ExtROM. Check your Device Information - if there is no ExtROM version number then chances are that there is no partition there.

Ok I Know The Whole USPL and IPL Unlocking Method But To Admit For Some People It May Confuse Them If They Are New To Flashing Roms. Here Is A Guide That Temperly CID Your Device And You can Flash Any Rom, Radio, IPL - SPL To It

What You Need

- This Loader File (by djvw) http://rapidshare.com/files/146172083/Loader.zip

How To Flash

1

- Connect Your Phone To Your PC

- Vista Users Make Sure You Have Windows Mobile Center Installed And You Have Established A Connection With Your Phone

- XP Users Make Sure You Have ActiveSync Installed And You Have Established A Connection With Your Phone

- Now That You Know Your Phone Is Connected To Your PC Run The Loader File Which You Downloaded (Double Click On Click To Run.exe)

- After You Run The Loader File A Black Screen Will Pop Up On Your PC

- Follow The Steps 1 and 2 On The Black Screen (You Will Only Complete Steps 1 and 2, Step 3 Is Not Needed And Does Not Work)

- After You Complete Step 2 - You Should Have An All White Screen On Your Touch

- If You Have An All White Screen On Your Touch You Are Done

- Now Just Run The ROMUpdateUtility.exe That You Downloaded With The Rom (Make sure your phone is in the white screen)

I did install the ROM Elf_Elfin_2.11.0.0_MFG_ModuleBuild and than later I did HSPL and USPL, as you can see in device info, 3.10.cmonex.

After that I did installed ONYX 4.2 (your rom) without problems, but than my Elfin got sim locked, while with ROM Elf_Elfin_2.11.0.0_MFG_ModuleBuild was unlocked. Than I tried new ROM 6.5 and everything was OK except that Elfin was again sim locked.

After that I installed again ROM Elf_Elfin_2.11.0.0_MFG_ModuleBuild and Elfin is now sim unlocked and working good, but I though that Radio maybe a problem 2.98.90 and I wanted to update to the new ones but Error show up and I have now again radio 2.98.90 and if I want to change to any ROM the device is sim locked.

Before I installed ROM Elf_Elfin_2.11.0.0_MFG_ModuleBuild I tried to sim unlock while the Elfin was with its Spain Movistar Rom but the 8 digit code that I was provided with all sim unlock tools was not working. I understand that if "MCC+MNC : Not found" than cant be unlocked but mine is sim unlocked with ROM Elf_Elfin_2.11.0.0_MFG_ModuleBuild, but if I install other ROM than sim lock is coming back and now I cant install new Radio to try.

Any advice?

If you flashed the unbricker ROM you have to use the white screen method to flash a ROM.

I want to change my rom from A TOUCH OF 6.5 to your Onyx stable/beta rom.
But whenever I try updating by clicking CustomRUU...it stops at 21% giving  ERROR [262] : UPDATE ERROR.

try flashing straight from sd without the sim.

This error occurs during the CE ROM code upgrade process. If this happens, you can just soft reset the device and run RUU again. The update process will then continue. At this stage the rom on the device is incomplete and it will not boot back up into Windows. You will need to place it into the bootloader to continue.

I have the exactly same problem! and after hours and hours of reading I still am not sure how to flash a rom directly from SD using the white screen method and not sure will that even help!
to tell you the truth, I think it is a huge problem and that I just wasted some money on this pocket pc because if every time a try to upgrade my rom my device will be sim locked again and than again I will have to install this unbricker rom ROM Elf_Elfin_2.11.0.0_MFG_ModuleBuild and than again it will work but I will still have problems with reception etc and I will need to change my radio version or rom and than try again and waste a lot of time and your nervs wondering what the hell is this dude saying!!!
If anyone have a suggestion what to do, please do not hesitate to post!

- pluged via usb the phone
- turnet bootloader mode on

There is a sticky entitled "Avoid Confusion". All of us started the same way. To come to a site like this means you have to spend a little time reading, just like any other hacking site.

I was previously owning a Gene (which is of two types, Old and New) - I found that there were two separate ROMs for Old and New Gene.
But here what I have found out is that in the ROMs titled Elf + Elfin, there is only one download (i.e. one ROM). So, should I assume that these ROMs are 'intelligent' and make the necessary changes to run on both devices, please advise.

The ROM's posted whatever the chef labeled it as Elf or Elfin or both should work. The only difference would be the pagepool setting which normally is 6MB for Elf & 12MB for Elfin.

I would say that dsixda ROMs are autodetecting device and sets it appropriately depending on the device. I have an Elfin and it autosets pp to 12MB although dsixda owns an Elf. But, the stickied on-the-fly ppchanger would change most of the pp except for a ROM or two.

Hello All.

It's true, my phone really dead.
I dont even get to BootLoader, the only thing that i have now is the response sound when you connect a new device to a computer.

the usb pocket pc driver is installed.
still no bootloader screen availabe(black screen)

wen i try to upgrade the rom i am able to connect to the mobile bot i get the Generic locked CID error.

This happened when i tried to upgrade to a 6.1 rom version.


i can connect trougth mtty and the lock status is FF

once that aperantly the phone is dead, is there a possibility to recover it ?

Hello i have a major problem with my elfin. i tried to upgrade it to the onyx rom
yesterday and it stopped half way through and now its stuck on bootloader. when i turn it on goes straight in to bootloader .
1)i tried the ruu unbricker rom
and it said error 294 invalid vendor id
2)i tried doing a new shipped rom and it said error 244 invalid model id
3)i tried hard spl and it said error 270
i cant go past bootloader so i cant open active sync
4)i tried usb sniffer and did nt work
5)i tried matty did not work
6)i tried flash utility and it did nt work
7)i tried flashing the onyx rom again
8) i tried soft rest nothing worked
none of these worked my elfin is stuck
all that i have on my phone is the bootloader that says
ipl 2.11.1002 and spl 2.20.0000 and usb at the bottom.
and i cant do anything.

Hi - I have just tried to upgrade my device to wm 6.1 with the following ROM RUU_Elfin_hTC_Asia_India_3.07.720.03_4.1.13.71_03. 34.90_BLUE_Ship, unfortunately it stuck at 1% and gave me the following error.


Error 244 :Invalid Model ID

This update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check you update utility.


Now my phone is stuck at bootloader, with four different colurs. I have searched the entire forum for any solution and tried to hard rest but it didn't help. I have also tried Mtty.exe to unbrick it but i am unable to find the USB port in it. Also, i tried to use gold card thing, but even that didn't solve the problem.
