Been on orange for 4 years wasnt really happy to change, but after speaking to upgrades 2 weeks ago they said that they were not doing this phone in the very near future. The guy on upgrades was surprised at this also. had to migrate to t-mobile through expansys. Very happy though since iv got the HTC handset unlocked to al networks with no network label on handset.

Thats terrible news, I been with Orange for like 8 years.. I'm classed as a band 5 customer and always get the newest phones for free... I have loads of magic numbers. N!O!N!O !
When they say near furture. i'm hoping they mean it might be available next month!
I might have to stick it out and wait for the Sony X1, but not even sure if that will be available, not sure I can draw myself to the lows for the Diamond, there was just to much going for the pro...

According to the vodafone forum, the touch pro will only be available on business contracts. The reason they give is becuase the touch pro browser can not support vodafone live.

Hi all
Just to let you all know, the Touch Pro is scheduled for release for business contracts and upgrades on the 7th September. This date is provisional and may be subject to change, though we have no reason at the moment to believe it will slip.
You can keep up to date with its release by signing up for our Touch Pro availability email alerts (http://www.vodafonebusinessshop.co.uk/index.cfm?fuseaction=Phones.preRegister&model=Touch%20Pro&manufacturer=HTC&type=handset).

Thanks Daz, can you confirm the availability limited only to Business Contracts due to the Vodafone Live problem on the Touch Browser? If this indeed is a problem, but bear in mind the Touch Browser browser is Opera, but of course Internet Explorer is still installed on it and therefore should be ok.

Orange says they will be doing the sony x1. He did try to make me stay with them and wait for the X1. I think you will be waiting a long time for the PRO on Orange.

If Voda are like Dell then they don't care if you use the business channels as they get the money anyway, however if their only objective is to push vodalive in everyone's face then maybe not :(

The touch pro is going to be people most obvious upgrade from the kaiser, which was available on a consumer contract, so why are they only offering it on a buisiness contract, if people are willing to pay on a normal consumer contract then why not take the money?

Best place to get information is from the vodafone forum.

Some quotes from vodafone staff below
Vintagewhino - I'm afraid there's been no change on this device being classified as business only, although if we hear anything regarding this you'll be amongst the first to find out. Was there a particular reason you wanted to go for the Touch Pro as opposed to the Diamond?
Its not that the HTC have hardware issues, its just that they have the business firmware loaded and as such are not compatible with the consumer services
Hi intertree
I wouldn’t be able to go into the technical details of this because there aren’t any technical reasons. This is purely a Vodafone decision.
This phone is only available for business users, so if you are not a business user, unfortunately you wouldn’t be able to get this phone. You could give our sales team a call and see if there is any way around it or see if there are any other devices that are available on consumer plans that would suit your needs.

Probably because the administrative overheads from a support point of view are higher for a device like this. They may have decided this based on a high number of support calls received for the Kaiser and took the decision to offer it to a smaller but, arguably, more competent sector of their user base.
