I now this question has been asked for a tousend times, but none have helped me. I use active sync 4.5 and can't connect my XDA IIs using WM5 via USB. I tried uninstalling, installing AS, removing cable, I also tried different PCs, but still with no effect. In settings>connection>usb to pc the box is unchecked (enable advance...). When I put the PDA into its cradle the windows (xp) shows that device was not recognised. In comm manager> active sync>menu> connections the box is checked (synchronise all PCs using the connection: '38400 Default), but no idea what that means. Hope anyone could help?

You need to check your PCs firewall settings

I use microsoft default firewall and in it enables active sync to work and connect.

I had similar problem, after upgrading my Qtek to WM6. In my case the problem was on network properties of Qtek, when connected.

Right-click (in control-panel/network-connection) the Qtek entry / Then properties

- checked only tcp/ip protocol and MS network services
- disabled bindings for others (ex: VPN and packet-trace utility)

Activesync 4.5 WORKS GREAT NOW

Only you can do is just reinstall operating system on your machine.... and I dont mean your mobile device.
