View Full Version : Which Radio ROM to use?

I've been having a problem for a while with my HTC S621 on Suncom's network. The signal is so weak in my home and in a lot of places that I usually force it over to AT&T. I'm on Suncom's nation wide plan, so I don't pay roaming. Technically it supposed to find a new tower and connect automatically rather than me forcing it over.

But often I find that the phone is often in limbo, it can't find Suncom but it doesn't fall over to AT&T. Often, I also have to reboot the phone for it to finally allow me to roam to AT&T. This has been an irritation as people have tried to contact me and only receive my voicemail.

And then there are times I have a signal, but incoming mail and SMS's cease until I reboot the phone.

So I'm thinking (I could be wrong) that perhaps I need to update the radio rom. Currently my 'About' shows the following.

Windows Mobile 6.1 Standard
Radio Version 4.1.13.51_03.07.90
RIL Version 2.002
CE OS 5.2.19700 (Build 19700.1.1.0)

I searched on radio in the forums but nearly all the discussions I found dated back to last year and I'm wondering what the latest stable ROM is that I should be seeking? Or if you think that this won't fix my issues then perhaps I should leave good enough alone?

I appreciate your suggestions.

Thank you,

Tim

Honestly, I think your stuck..

I have a horrible signal at work (Tmobile). Its pretty much useless.

I have the 3.07.90 right now, and unfortunately its as good as its going to get for me anyway.

I have tried other radio roms, and ultimately none of them improve the actual signal.

The 3.07.90 rom seems to keep a better lock than others on the strongest tower, and I get better streaming radio, etc with it...

In general, I don't think any of them are going to help your signal very much.

I second that, have tried others with no luck on improving what i had to start with.

changing the software doesnt make the tower any closer...

That's true, but it still doesn't explain why it seemingly can't find the tower until I reboot the phone. And it seems to have it's own mind whether or not to permit me to roam over to AT&T which would give me nearly full strength in most instances.

But per the advice here I'm just going to leave it at the same ROM. (Makes you wonder why there would be other radio ROM options out there, if they were of no benefit.)

I'm just going to bide my time with this phone I suppose until my contract with Suncom finally ends and I can switch to AT&T.

Thank you,

Tim

Rather than reboot the phone, try turning the radio on/off instead. Does that find the tower?

Yah I am having the same problem with having to reboot my phone in order to go to roaming at times. This stinks sometimes...
