No....if the Hard SPL fails to boot, just follow the instructions on screen as it will instruct you on how to get out of an unsuccessful flash. Everything will boot fine.

I guess this was a misunderstanding, because this is what I believe to have understood.

The important part is having a successfully installed SPL, then the Radio or ROM flashing can even abort as you can always restart again, right?

Well the whole point of Hard SPL is so that it doesn't brick your device so you should be good regardless of what happens. I've not gone through many problems through many journal of Radios and ROMs. I learned most of my stuff from reading and from Trial and Error.

before u begin, please identify your device whether GSM or CDMA model. keep in mind, most tutorials like in this particular topic is not for CDMA user.

your device must be first HardSPL, then u can flash it with a cooked ROM.

On the topic 2G/3G model, I dont know much about it. There is a topic discussing Indian 2G network, pls search for it.

Hi, I have 1.00.25.05 currently installed on my diamond. I am thinking of trying out .23 radio. If I change the radio, do I have to hard reset my device or not? I prefer to avoid having to install all my programs from the scratch.

I found it's possible and I have changed from 05 to 23. Reception is better. I couldn't use tomtom in my room with .05 but now I can. Strange but the whole system seems a lot quicker in response.. I wonder if it's only my device.. or is that the reason why there are .23 users than .05? I am curious how long the battery would last with .23.

My device: SPL-1.37.OliNex [D.E.], 1.00.25.23, The last of Dutty ROM.
Another important thing.. I live in Amstelveen, Nederland.

My batter last barely one day, even with only 1 hour intense usage. And I am setting everything I can to save energy (backlight, try to remove unnecessary process running withing memory cleaner, tweaks). I have bought 1350maph battery, but still eats up quickly. Is it the SPL? Anybody got any clue?

It is unnecessary to hard reset after flashing a radio. Rom's are a different story...:)

It shows up initially when I run the OliNex Unsigned Hard-SPL (Developers Edition) or the Custom RUU applications. As soon as i tell it to install it thinks for a few seconds then says it cannot connect to my device. Amy I missing something?

Do I need to unlock my phone? I am not asking how, I can ask my provider that question. Just wondering if that is the root of my issue, as I really want to start trying some of the rom creations on the site here. (not really sure if its legal in Canada to unlock phones, I just know it happens.)

thank you for the reply. I have tried your suggestion but still no success.

1. I was able to put my phone into the bootloader (rainbow screen).
2. Seen the work SERIAL change to USB when I plugged it into my pc.
3. Ran the HardSPL ROMUpdateUtility.
4. It shows my current version as nothing (blank).
5. It then offers image version 1.40.OliNex
6. I let it try to update and it sits at 0% (I think I seen a post about that, I am gonna read it after this post.) I do se the progress bar on my pc and my Diamond.

I'm using the HardSPL PDA Phone ROM Update Utility 3.27.4.3 found on these forums... any other ideas? I really am hoping to try some of the creations by the wizards here at xda.

When I connect through the HardSPL with my phone connected through ActiveSync the HardSPL app tells me my phone is 1.93.631.8

When I go into bootloader it shows:

Hi everyone, I've just upgraded from a Prophet to the Diamond (huge upgrade!) and am trying to change from the vodafone UK rom to an original WWE rom (preferably the last one released on HTC website).
On the prophet it was much much simpler...
I wanted to know if you can help me. I've followed this guide (post 1), but with no success... it is stuck on step 1 at 0%, then soft resets and it still has the damned Vodafone ROM...
Can anyone help? Did anyone had the same problem? How did you solved it, and which packages did you use?

You can do just radio update. No problems with that. You wont even loose any data while updating just radio, but make a backup to be on safe side.

I'm not sure but I've read the info on how to unlock. After, I see on post 2 a diamond cid/security/sim unlocker. I got a diamond GSM with sim card, do I need to execute the one in post 2 to be able to flash or the info in post 1 are enough?

I had the same problem as mbgm8ndb and others:

The device is connected with ActiveSync, I can browse the contents of the phone, the ActiveSync symbol in the task bar is green and at step 7 it shows my current Rom version.

Then when I click Next (step 8) my phone does nothing. No ask for confirmation, no black screen, and the progress bar on the computer stays at 0% and the Error [202] message appears shortly after.

And resolved it by following this advice.

have u tried to disable "Enable advanced network functionality" under Settings -> Connections -> USB to Device.

Dont know if it works though. have a go!

Hi.To tell u in plain english Hard reset is formatting ur phone.Its similar to the clear storage function which u have in the System settings tab. You will lose all data stored on phone. whereas Hard Spl is an unlocking software. It will unlock ur phone for all type of upgrades and specially flashing ur rom. (HSPL is an user-modified SPL that you have to flash to your phone. It overwrites the existing SPL on your device with a "hacked" one so to say. It allows you to bypass the HTC certificate check and flash unsigned or CID-mismatching roms to your phone. You only have to flash it once and then you can flash roms anytime.) Well now is the perfect time for you to flash a new rom with WWE (world wide english). You will first of all get a new cooked ROM that will jazz up ur phone and u will also have english.

All models are totally different and flashing a rom meant for a specific model on some other phone will just do one thing. It will turn ur phone into a paperweight, So to say it will brick ur phone. I highly advice you to go to Hermes forum and get cooked rom's from there. The link is

You always need to get Hard SPL on ur phone if u want to flash a ROM. Its the only way and dont worry at all, after flashing u can still continue using ur current carrier without any prob

Well my dear this site is a boon for all HTC users. Its the perfect place to mod and upgrade ur phone and one of the most imp. part of upgrading/modding ur phone is to get cooked ROM flashed. HTC original rom are nowhere near to the league of cooked rom. It will change ur experience and u will ultimately fall in love with ur phone. Well Cooked ROM are ones that are made by some develepors as per their needs. You will find new softwares, settings, the way ur phone behave, its processing speed. It will boost up anything. There are many developers out there who specailise in cooked ROM. If u are looking for a really heavy rom bundled with loads of softwares then go for ENERGY rom. You can try others too. There are quite few good chefs out there.

Dont mix radioversion with SPL version. your SPL version is 1.20 your radioversion is something else..

1. Flash with Olinex 1.40 http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=93362&d=1213719705

2. Flash ROM I'm using this one.. there are many - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=521941

(3.) Radio doesn't have to be flashed.. if you have poor reception you may want to flash your radio.. I'm using 1.09.25.23 and it seems that that one works best for the majority. It differs between different operators though! If your satisfied with your current reception you don't have to flash the radio.

This device work fine but litle slow i think. Can i get some speed with this update/flash!

im no expert here, thought but from what ive read, if you download a stock rom, not much should change with the speed and etc.

cooked roms are roms that either focus on speed, animation, etc.
it is still something i still researching in this forum.

i havent found a page where there is a list of all the roms for diamond available and a comprehensive of what the rom does do and what it does have.

but they always say, the best rom is your own cooked rom

Step A and B are working fine.
At Step C I’ll export the downloaded ROM of my choice into the directory of the RUU. If I now want to flash the ROM the screen of the device is getting dark and the tool shows 0% the hole time until it aborts with an error. The device doesn’t show anything. It’s dark the hole time.

It’s not the 0% error mentioned in the other sticky guide because I could flash the ROM of the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=551294 with the .exe file but not with the single .nbh file.


Do you know why I have such a problem?

trying to flash the latest official rom downloaded from htc.com, the proccess stuck at the tricolour screen. I had no choice but to remove the battery after the warning message that the usb cable might be disconnected.
Of course i had all the prerequisits and an activesync connection.

Any ideas?

Hi Assell,

I had the same problem when I followed this guide yesterday. I figured out that using the RUU which comes with the download in step A doesn't work. Instead you have to use the Custom RUU from step B (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396073). Just create a new folder with the DiamonCustomRUU.exe and your .nbh file in it and start the .exe. Then do the flashing as described in post #1.

tried and isntalled 2-3 versions of ROM on my Diamond.Unfortunately, now the phone is not working, actual rom seems to have problems, and main problem is that not even usb is not working, and if i try to enter bootloader mode only on serial work.

I think that i should make a hard reset, but dont know how, cause tried some options of hard reset, and not worked.Pls i need a hand of help.

From what I've red, HardSPL Olinex 1.93 (unsigned version) was made for some devices (built 1.93...) that had displaying (flickering) problems but should be basically similar to the 1.40 version.

Contact ROM Chef and tell him about this problem. This isn't HardSPL/Radio fault.

Not working.. and your poll is fubar because I have read everything and followed the instructions, read other posts, tried everything mentioned by others who have this issue and my AT&T fuze refuses to take the hard-spl, and yes Ive tried all three of them. Tried on seperate PCs, one vista one xp sp3. Same error.

The hard-spl asks to run an unsigned file, select yes, screen goes black and diamond never reconnects to the PC to start the update, the only visible sign of life is the pulsing light around the round button. Eventually the RUU updater times out because the diamond is never reconnecting back to the PC. Only way to boot the phone from this "off" phase is to take the battery out and put back in, holding power button does not reboot. Thankfully, it comes back to the factory rom and doesnt brick.

Ive even booted the diamond in boot mode (volume down/power) and tried to manually update, still no luck.

Several, several people posted this same problem not only in this thread but in several others and no one has gave a valid answer to fixing our problems. Hell even an simple explaination would be nice. This issue isnt covered on the first page of this thread or subsequent pages, so this "Bible" is worthless without addressing an issue that so many of us have encountered.

2. Simcard can not connect to any network and not working...

As far as I know, unless the ROM requires it (which is usually specified in the first few posts), you should be fine to keep your old radio.

Make sure you upgrade to HardSPL, though.

you probably already have hspl, go to bootloader and tell us exactly what is written there

Hi guys!

I'm unable to install Hard-SPL on my Diamond with SPL 1.96. I've searched forum for mentioning of this version, but to no avail.

During bootup phone shows
R 1.08.25.20
G 52.4.25.24H
D 1.96.00.00
I start RUU and it goes fine through first screens and then shows Image version 1.96.710.5. I click update and phone screen goes black. RUU progress bar stays on 0% for about 15 seconds and then goes straight to 100% and congratulates me with successfull upgrade. Phone soft resets, but then again shows the same versions during bootup. I've tried Olinex 1.40 and 1.93, but with the same results.
Can you please advise?

Thanks for your work which seems fantastic, unfortunatly not for me as i tried to follow the instructions step by step, beginning by HardSPL procedure needed for the ROM update. After successul flashing HardSPL 1.4, the device is not recognised anymore by my activesync desktop. I think having tried everything, reboot my device, reboot my desktop, usb link looks good but activesync fails to establish the connection so it's impossible to continue by flashing the new rom or reverse the situation to the last boot loader.

Does anyone has a solution to this issue or had the same experience ?
I offer my diamond to anyone has the solution :) just joking i just give you my wife :)... once i will have one.

I installed Olinex 1.40 HARDSPL, but I cannot upgrade that to 1.93 HARDSPL.
There is no error message, all seems to go well during the install, but after the reboot of my Touch Diamond, HARDSPL is still 1.40.

I got a diamond recently, and it stops at the Touch diamond screen, no OS and radio info. it hasn't got hardspl, it says on the bootloader: SPL-1.93.0000

I can't flash ROMs or hardSPLs because I can only go into the bootloader. is there anything I can do? Is there any way to flash unsigned HardSPL when I'm on the bootloader screen?

Hi All,

For a whole duration of the day I've been trying to upgrade to 2.03 ROM. I tried the ROM from the phone's importer site, the HTC site, xda site, al lof them with the same result. After reaching 100% the mobile goes to Tricolor with "Upgrade ROM code error" message and the WIzard on the PC says Error 270.

I tried this with various HardSPL versions, both signed and unsigned, last was 1.93 unsigned -> all of them installed nicely, but the upgrade to 2.03 failed every time the same way.

Doing the upgrade from the internal storage also fails, I renamed the 100MB file to the name specified in the Noob Guide and put it at the root of the storage device, but the bootloader gray screen says no image found (or something similar and goes directly to trying to find a USB host.

I even tried to install the 1.93 ROM, but all the links I found were dead.
Please help, this thing has just burned me more than 4 hours of time with no success of any kind, which is very annoying :(((

So i read carefully all the steps, downloaded all the stuff i need and then i started. the hardSPL was ok, the problem comes when i try to update the radio i unzip the RUU custom and the radio file into the same directory and then when i try to start it it just won't it came a message on the pc wich says "the application failed to initalize properly" so i downloaded it again and again and another radio version and then another one and it always came the same msg. any ideas???? thanks in advance.

if you have unsigned hardspl, you'll need to use the SSPL package (i.e. the same package that is posted in HardSPL thread to flash the hardspl), just replace the NBH file with one of these stock SPLs.

If you would like to get any Radio above and beyond the Diamond specific, then you need to get your Device Security Unlocked. This allows the phone to have no restrictions what so ever.

how do i check if my device is security unlocked .. cause i know it is sim unlocked for sure i just dont know if it is security unlocked or not; so is there a way to check? :confused:
To check to see if your device is security unlocked press the soft reset button using the stylus and then immediately press and hold the volume down. Tri-Colour screen called your bootloader will appear and the the title, "SECURITY UNLOCKED" will be at the top of the bootloader. IF you do not see this then you have your answer.

My device is from t-mobile (MDA compact 4) and its in german language (ROM v 1.93). I want to install the wm 6.5 with sense 2.5. but after downloading (Seven re) from the forum it has only a file
I tried to run hard spl but it did not work It says that I need to check my RUU.
I have win 7 on my PC and did the setting as said by

with the above method progress goes to 0% and then starts recovery.
I even tried to install the rom officially provided by O2 germany (v2.03.207.02)

Please help me how to flast the wm6.5 wth htc sense on my MDA compact 4.
May be it has some lock but there is no sim lock as it works with o2 sim although it is from t-mobile.

hy there. I have a HTC Diamond P3700 (it works on any network, but i don't know if it is locked and i also don't know how to find out this). i read this thread (almost all of it) to be sure i post in the right one. I tried to upgrade my radio and rom. I follwed all the steps, beginig with the hardSPL (when i test it, it show the SPL-1.30... OliNex). Is it good to proceed with the upgrade of radio and rom? And the second problem, which is bigger, is that ia cann't run on my PC (Windows XP SP2) the DiamondCustomRUU.exe of both radio and rom upgrade installer. It returns me a windows error. I apreciate any help you can give me, 'cause i don't want to pay a person to make this upgrades on my mobile phone.
P.S.: I just remeber: I have some problems with the wi-fi. I cann't connect to any network i find (they have low signal, 1/3). The truth is i didn't search for stronger w-networks, but in the same place where i couldn't connect with my HTC, i could connect and navigate with a Nokia. And another problem is with the gprs/3g internet connection. I couldn't set my phone according my operators indications. The question is: will the radio and rom update resolve this problems? i installed some diamond spl on diamond although it completed 100 percent and turned off, and model id error flashed on screen, now it is not responding (not turning on) is there any solution to install any spl either stock or hard any so the device can turn on , plz help

Try Installing the radio via SD METHOD:

1. open from your PC the rar or zip archive and extract only the BIG .nbh file
2. rename as DIAMIMG.NBH
3. copy the renamed file into the root dir of your "Storage Card" or "Internal Storage" (the one of 4Gb... NOT to the internal phone memory!)
4. soft reset your device and within 3 seconds push together the Vol_Down + Back button (the one on the right above the hangup button) and keep pressed until the boot loader appears (the one with the color stripes)
5. soon as you see the bootloader stop to press those poor buttons
6. a very simple gray menu will appear asking you what to do, simple press the power button to perform the ROM/Radio upgrade
7. while the upgrade runs be patient and don't press again the power button, reset the device or play with it until it finishes, when finished a message "UPDATE SUCCESS" will appear, now you can safely reset your device
8. who prefer can perform a hard reset after the fresh cook (soon after reset simply press Vol_Down + Circle button, then when you see another simple gray menu choose Vol_Up to confirm format), even if this has no-sense because internal memory is pre-formatted during flash, but... there is always a but... for some unknown "scientific" reason sometimes an hard-reset can save time & headache

What SPL did you flash on your device? What are you trying to do? Can you put your device in bootlaoder mode (the screen with tri colour)?

Which radio are you installing??

I can't remember as it's been a while but maybe when switching out of radio 1.20, it's possible that you need to use radio 1.00.25.05 first and then switch to desired radio.

It's worth a try.

just a note to stupid people like me, if you format your diamond without an image on the storage card, I was able to get a rom on it by booting up with vol down and back key, then waiting till it went into normal HARDSPL mode with USB, and running the customruu after that.. dunno if you could just boot it up with vol down only but that worked for me anyways..

hi guys, I have a Sprint Diamond. ( No I didnt try to flash with the GSM...yet.)

I have tried both HSPL043 and 057 and still get the same error:

Error [244]: Invalid Model ID

"This Update Utility cannot be used for your PDA Phone. Please check your update utility".

Should I try the GSM one?

Here is my Phone info:

ROM Version: 1.03.651.4
ROM Date: 11/11/08
Radio Version: 1.03.15F

Any ideas? Help before I get impatient and brick my shit with the GSM Bootloader.. lol

Hi All,

For a whole duration of the day I've been trying to upgrade to 2.03 ROM. I tried the ROM from the phone's importer site, the HTC site, xda site, al lof them with the same result. After reaching 100% the mobile goes to Tricolor with "Upgrade ROM code error" message and the WIzard on the PC says Error 270.

I tried this with various HardSPL versions, both signed and unsigned, last was 1.93 unsigned -> all of them installed nicely, but the upgrade to 2.03 failed every time the same way.


I have the same problem trying to install the RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_2.03.401.2_Radio_Signed_Dia mond_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23_Ship.exe.

I tried all the HSPLs and got the same problem.
Anyone found a solution?

TROUBLE! I'm following the steps in this tutorial exactly. I've upgraded the Hard-SPL as indicated in the first post. I've followed the steps for upgrading the Radio, and I'm stuck!

Both the PC and my Touch Diamond are stuck at 0% right now, and have been for about 15 minutes!

The CustomRUU.exe said it was upgrading from ROM Version 1.93.??? to "Radio"

What do I do? How much longer should I let it go? There's no activity at all, and I'm scared out of my mind! lol

My diamond was water damaged a while ago, I let it dry out for a couple of weeks and it did not work, I bought a new diamond and tried the battery in my old one and to my amazment it started up, well to the touch diamond screen anyway, it didn't display any red writing and the sreen stayed on but went black after that. I though the radio must have been gone so put it in the bootloader and tried to flash the same radio I had before 1.17, the white screen came up and all went fine but still the same problem!

I really need the data on my internal storage and so need to at least be able to read that. I don't care about it working forever thats why I bought another one as a doner!

Could someone please tell me what happened and how to fix it! Why does it not get past this?

Also I have hard reset it, reflashed the original ROM successfully, reflashed hardspl and reflashed the Stock SPL but it still does the same!

Hello everybody. I bought a diamond 2 years ago from the greek telephone company and it's new until now, because i didn't use it. Originaly it was with english menu but i live in greece and i need to wright greek sms. The greek HTC site do not upgrate it, because they say the s/n is not from them and is forbiden to do so. i went back to the telephone company with the phone to return it and the telephone company install a "1.93 swtos" ROM. That version had a lot of bugs and i abandon the phone complitly.I wish to know if there is a new version of Greek ROM and how should i do it correctly.

yesterday i tried again and found out it was really easy
tried out 3 or 4 roms for difference in performance (all without clearing storage on device prior to)
all successfully done using internal storage image update method
except this last one which i did using standard custom ruu method
now my diamond wont go past bootscreen

I tried to do this a while back but had no success at all. Then realised my Diamond wasn't even unlocked before I started! DOH!

Unlocked using Oilpros unlock tool which is very good by the way.

Then followed all steps in the walkthrough. Thought I'd done something wrong as I struggled to get into the bootloader using the vol down + reset buttons.

Didn't realise you had to press at the same time and hold the vol down button.

Anyway after ALL the confusion I'm there. Thanks a lot. I already paid for the unlock but I'll be donating to the site as soon as I have some free cash. Cheers. :D

Checked, the cable it's ok, the permissions are ok, the phone see the cable the computer try to install the device and it fail. Tried this on two computers, both with win7 and the same problem, no sync.

no, afaik , if you want to change into another ROM, you don't need to do HSPL or upgrade Radio again, unless your new ROM needs certain suitable radio, so you need to do a radio upgrade.
as for HSPL, the function of HSPL is just for you to be able to use custom ROM, yes it's what you're using right now.

I got a question regarding HardSPL. From my understanding I need to run HardSPL to install custom ROMS. I bought a touch diamond that was unlocked by a vendor by installing AT&T sim and a code. Is this good enough to install custom roms? Or do I still need to run HardSPL?

my friend just bought a used HTC Diamond, and he don't know if it's already HSPL or not.. he said something about olinex 1.40 and the radio is 1.0025.05.. how can he tell if it's already HSPL or not? thanks :)

edit : he said the SPL is NOT olinex 1.40.. it was 1.93.000p or something like that..
