View Full Version : [TUT]Complete upgrading guide (HardSPL+Radio+ROM) NOT FOR CDMA USERS!!!

Here's a tutorial for the new users facing unanswered (at a first glance) questions while browsing through the tremendous amount of information that can be found on the Diamond Forum.
A more detailed guide, one which contains screenshots too, can be found in The Bible (http://www.modmydiamond.info)!

IMPORTANT!
Before you proceed, you need to understand one thing: although these upgrades work in 99% of the cases, you are doing this at your own risk!

Prerequisites:
1. make sure you backup all data on your device (that is contacts, sms, mms, settings, owner info, personalization, etc.) as the upgrade process will wipe out all the information found on the device.
2. make sure you have a working ActiveSync (Windows™ XP) or Windows Mobile Device Center (Windows Vista™) connection established, ready to sync.
3. make sure you have all power management options on your PC turned OFF (like Sleep, Standby or Hibernation).

Preface:
There may be other ways and other combinations to do this, probably I will update this thread and try to keep it up to date, but this tutorial is based on the steps I personally followed, writing this while doing the upgrade procedure.

Acronyms (excerpt from the Wiki (http://wiki.xda-developers.com)):

CID lock (aka vendor lock): put on your device by the manufacturer to prevent installation of a ROM not released by them.
HardSPL: This modified bootloader allows a much safer flashing process to take place since it reduces the chance of permenently bricking your device. It also removes the need to CID Unlock the device since it ALWAYS reports SuperCID when flashing. See the official thread for more info.
Hard Reset: Similar to a soft reset, by performing a hard reset you completely wipe your device and restore it to the position it was in when you first turned the device on after it was purchased or after a new ROM is flashed.
Radio: The radio stack is responsible for the phone functionality of the device. This includes GPRS, GSM, UMTS, and GPS operations as well as camera functionality. The version you use depends on who your carrier is as users have reported versions working better on one carrier than the other. The wiki pages contain the latest versions available to download and install.
ROM: The ROM holds the Operating system and other components such as the bluetooth and wifi stacks. The ROM is accompanied by the Radio, Ext_ROM, SPL and IPL. Carriers such as T-mobile or Vodaphone taylor the ROM to their specifications and version numbers do not carry the same meaning across different carriers. IF the carrier you use supports the device well they will usually release regular ROM updates.
RUU - ROM Upgrade Utility: It’s the s/w used on your PC to do a ROM upgrade for your PPC;
IPL - Initial Program Loader: It’s the bootloader for PPC. It boots up SPL;
SPL - Secondary Program Loader: Loads the actual OS;
WWE: World Wide English Edition;
SSPL: SSPL is a modified bootloader which is loaded into RAM when run, this allows us to overwrite any aspect of the ROM, Radio or Bootloader far easier than using mtty.

A. Upgrading to HardSPL (Bible page (http://modmydiamond.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=22&Itemid=26))
There are several HardSPL editions available for the Diamond. While I have decided to go with the HardSPL described in this guide, the majority of Chefs indicate clearly in the ROM thread what version of HardSPL is recommended to go with their cooked ROM.

IMPORTANT!
Make sure you have the prerequisites!

1. Download OliNex Unsigned Hard-SPL (Developers Edition) from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=93362&d=1213719705);
2. Unzip the files from the archive to any new folder;
3. Run the executable (in most cases it is ROMUpdateUtility.exe, but it also can be ROM.exe or any other name, recognize it by the icon);
4. If you understand the caution and risks, check the box and click Next;
5. Read carefully and follow all directions;
6. If you completed all steps indicated, check the box and click Next;
7. Next screen will show current version on device and by clicking Update you will see the version to be flashed;
8. Click Next when ready;
9. Your device might ask you for confirmation on launching a program. Just tap Yes! Your device will display a completely black screen. A Progress bar will appear on your computer screen. Be patient while your device is being updated. Do not interact with device in any way, do not unplug cable, do not turn off device or computer!
10. When upgrading is finished, your device will automatically soft reset. Click the ‘Finish’ button to exit the RUU.

To verify if you indeed have correct HardSPL on your device, enter Bootloader by pushing the reset button while holding volume down key on the side.

It should display*:
* In case of another HardSPL, the version number would differ!

SPL-1.40.OliNex

If this is the case, you have successfully upgraded your device to HardSPL.

B. Upgrading Radio (Bible page (http://modmydiamond.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=26))
There are several Radios for the Diamond, although 1.00.25.05 has been reported to have the best results and power management, plus it fixes the device getting hot issue.
These reports are subjective though. Radio operation depends very much on your location, carrier, etc. If one Radio version does not meet your needs, switch!

IMPORTANT!
Make sure you have the prerequisites!

IMPORTANT!!!
Make sure that before this step, your device has already been upgraded to HardSPL

1. Download Custom RUU from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396073);
2. Download Radio 1.00.25.05 (and others) from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=407956);
3. Extract the downloaded Custom RUU from step 1 into a new folder on your PC.
4. Extract the downloaded Radio version from step 2 in the same folder as the Custom RUU.
5. Execute DiamondCustomRUU.exe.
6. If you understand the caution and risks, check the box and click Next;
7. Read carefully and follow all directions;
8. If you completed all steps indicated, check the box and click Next;
9. Next screen will show current version on device and by clicking Update you will see the version to be flashed;
10. Click Next when ready;
11. Your device might ask you for confirmation on launching a program. Just tap Yes! Your device will display a completely black screen. A Progress bar will appear on your computer screen. Be patient while your device is being updated. Do not interact with device in any way, do not unplug cable, do not turn off device or computer!
12. When upgrading is finished, your device will automatically soft reset. Click the ‘Finish’ button to exit the RUU.

To verify if you indeed have successfully upgraded Radio, look for the R numbers at boot as well as in Start, Settings, System, Device Information.

If the numbers are correct, you have successfully upgraded your Radio.

C. Flashing a ROM (applies to both Official and Cooked ROMs) (Bible page (http://modmydiamond.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=12&Itemid=26&limit=1&limitstart=4))

IMPORTANT!
Make sure you have the prerequisites!

IMPORTANT!!!
Make sure that before this step, your device has already been upgraded to HardSPL.

IMPORTANT!!!
Remember: there is no better ROM!
We all judge ROMs by our own subjective perception: some look for speed, others for balance, others for stability, others for applications, others for the looks! Do not ask which ROM to use, just flash it! If you don’t like it, SWITCH!

IMPORTANT!!!
READ the ROM thread! You can find useful information regarding version, contents, aspect, memory usage, bugs, fixes, patches, add-ons, benchmarks and most important, Chefs recommend you HardSPL versions to use. Also, some Chefs might have included Radio in their ROMs. That info you can find also while reading the ROM thread.

1. Download the ROM of your choice;
2. Unzip the contents to a new folder;
3. Run the RUU;
4. If you understand the caution and risks, check the box and click Next;
5. Read carefully and follow all directions;
6. If you completed all steps indicated, check the box and click Next;
7. Next screen will show current version on device and by clicking Update you will see the version to be flashed;
8. Click Next when ready;

I just wanted to thank you for your work, tnyynt :D

When I began reading how to do all these updates on the diamond I was rather confused about the loads of information here in this forum. Since there are many different SPLs, radios, roms and cabs it was hard to find out which one is the right one for me. I spent many hours to read (I know that reading is essential when you want to manipulate your device).

So I really appreciate your tutorial although I managed to update HardSPL and Radio without a compact help like yours. As I said - it was not easy to find all the needed information - even with RTFM and using the search function here.

So, once again: thank you very much!

Hello there.. great forum, many usefull stuff for HTC users..

I need some help.. noob stuff i supose.

A. Upgrading to HardSPL

I cant get over the first step :) I extracted & installed the SPL-1.40.OliNex along with other versions from this forum... but no use on my Diamond :(

After pressing volume down key + reset button, no changes are visible... can it be there is some new version thats immune on this type of software modifying?

The data that im currently seeing on device boot is:

R 1.00.25.03
G 52.26a.25.09
D 1.37.00.00

Solved my problems with HardSPL 1.24 :)
+ for the tutorial...

I see a reference to the hermes :eek: device in the HardSPL section - that might confuse people LOL.

HardSPL: This modified bootloader allows a much safer flashing process to take place since it reduces the chance of permenently bricking your Hermes device. It also removes the need to CID Unlock the device since it ALWAYS reports SuperCID when flashing. See the official thread for more info.

Other than that Great stuff :D

Maybe you can extend your tutorial to flashing back to original ROM for warranty purposes. Especially getting rid of the Hard-SPL after reflashing the original ROM.

Except that - great job!

I've been trying for the longest time to upgrade my ROM

I've spent probably about 8 hours trawling this site (and others) trying to get all the info I needed together, and I've been moaning to a mate about 'why doesn't someone just post a 123 step by step guide because then I could go through step by step and I'd be able to easily identify the step(s) i was missing out.

This post did just that! I thought that the Rom included the radio so I wouldn't need to download the radio seperately and put it in the same folder as the ROM. Did that and now it is actually installing where it just sat there for 15 minutes before and then said it had lost connection.

Granted it's currently only at around 40% but that is 40% more than I ever got before and I can see it is going to work.

Thanks you!

I can't upgrade my SPL! It just goes från 0-100% in a flash and doesn't apply to the phone. But the phone gets resetted to original. I have an connected connection to activesync. The phone restarts and then the connection fails. poof 100%. Problem?

Hi. First of all, thanks to all of you for this great community, that helped me in so many issues. This is a great community... !

Back to topic: I own the XDA Diamond by o2, I flashed the 137 ROM with the 1.40 HardSPL and the Diamond Project 3.2 ROM an the Radio v1.03.25.18 ROM, and encountered that my Diamond often hanged. I thinked about it and came to the conclusion that it was because of the Radio ROM, so i installed Radio v1.00.25.05 (http://rapidshare.com/files/129598071/Diamond_Radio_1.00.25.05.rar). Now the problem is gone and im happy about a very fast and performant ROM and Radio! THANK YOU!!!

Hi.

Danke!!!

B. Upgrading Radio (Bible page (http://modmydiamond.info/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=15&Itemid=26))

...

3. Extract the downloaded Custom RUU from step 1 into a new folder on your device;
4. Extract the downloaded Radio version from step 2 in the same folder as the Custom RUU.

I'm just a noob, but from reading another thread about upgrading radio, it said to put the Custom RUU and the Radio in a new folder on the PC. When reading your tutorial, you use the word device, which could be intepreted as the Diamond.

For noobs as me, it could be good to clear this up. :)

Your tutorial has helped me flash both hSPL and a new ROM, thanks man!

Just because the tutorial is about one HardSPL it doesn't necessarily mean that eveybody should go with that one. It is stated to use the HardSPL of your choice, while taking into consideration the HardSPL version mentioned in the ROM thread.

started with 1.93.456.2 WWE. Couldnt flash either new HTC HK WWE ROM or with Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex RUU.zip

Ran SSLmaunal.exe by copying it the the device from PC and use file explorer on phone to find new file, run it. Screen fades and goes black. DONT do what i did and wait for ages for it to "work". GO and now run RUU program on your PC from the zip file as mentioned above.

It might be a problem with your PC losing connection with the device in bootloader mode. Can you check it shows USB while in bootloader and proper drivers are installed in Device Manager?

My Diamond is an Orange one and the screen says "SPL-1.37.0000".

I tried to install the 1.23, 1.24, 1.34 (all jockyw2001),1.93 OliNex from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=400950

I tried installing the 1.00.25.05 Radio and that doesn't work. I've tried installing the SwitchBlade ROM (the one i want to have installed) and that doesn't work either.

This is really annoying me now because i've tried everything and nothing seems to work. Please help.

I've installed HardSPL 1.40 and am currently using a custom ROM.. Do I need to flash the HardSPL every time I want to install a new custom ROM? Or can I just install the new ROM without the SPL/RADIO flashing?

You only flash HardSPL once (except when you want to change it or flash back to original) but is always a good habit to check if it's still on before a flash, takes 5 seconds only but can save you the trouble, just in case.

Hi there. I'm trying to upgrade my diamond using this tutorial. Unfortunalety i'm having some strange (at least to me) problems.

I successfully managed to hardSPL my device to SPL-1.40.OliNex.
It reports this version of spl after reset+vol down.

What I can't do is upgrade radio/rom. I simply cannot run Custom RUU!
It sais:

---------------------------
DiamonCustomRUU.exe - Błąd aplikacji
---------------------------
Aplikacja nie została właściwie zainicjowana (0xc0000135). Kliknij przycisk OK, aby zakończyć aplikację.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

which means:
---------------------------
DiamonCustomRUU.exe - Application error
---------------------------
The application was not initialized correctly (0xc0000135). Click OK to finish the application.
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

What's wrong? Was searching the forum for hours now... can't find a thing.
This thing happens with the DiamondCustomRUU.exe file supplied with the Ruu_Signed_Duttys_Diamond_5.2.20275_V1_8_Radio_1.0 0.25.07_Full, with the Diamond_Radio_1[1].00.25.07 and with the file from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396073). Appears to me it's the same file anyways.
Doesn't it run on Windows XP Pro SP2?
Help me out here PLEASE!

regards,

Ok. The answer to my problem was installing .net 3.5. Maybe this information should be added to the tutorial for newbs like me?

Here's a tutorial for the new users facing unanswered (at a first glance) questions while browsing through the tremendous amount of information that can be found on the Diamond Forum.

Thanks to:

Hi

Sorry if I'm asking some obvious questions ....

If I have a Vodafone one with version ROM 1.93, is it worth putting this generic ROM on?

Do I gain any benefits?

I feel battery life is still an issue with Vodafone ROM 1.93.

Also can I revert back to Vodafone for Warranty reasons?

Thanks

Hey there,

I just wanna say thnx for the tut, and i followed it to the letter, i flashed my DIAM130 to HardSPL v1.40, but when i try to load the hong kong signed ROM (using the unsigned or signed hardSPL) it goes to 1% then says invalid user ID. Even though the tut says that if this happens you don't have HardSPL...

Halp?

A few problems, here is where I am so far. Firstly i have read the beginning of the thread and trawled the forms for the last 2 days.

HARD SPL = DONE and checked with soft reset and vol down.
Got dutty (http://duttythroy.net/download-area.html?task=summary&cid=104&catid=7) and downloaded the custon RUU from the link.

However I do it the custom RUU when clicked on always brings up an error straight away saying 'application failed to initialize'.

Tried to do the ROM update by putting dutty ROM in the hard SPL folder and flashing that way. It picks up his ROM and starts, the ignito then goes browny type screen and fades into nothing. A few mins later remaining off it springs up a 262 connection error on my pc screen. It cannot carry on and the ignito boots up normally with teh O2 crap installed.

Ideas :confused:

Have you considered adding the recommendation to do a Hard Reset after flashing a new ROM? Seems most Chefs recommend doing it.

Like other here, I thought I understood the instructions. I've got an Orange HTC Diamond SPL 1.37.000. Followed the instructions and downloaded Signed HardSPL 1.38 Olinex and 1.24 as I couldn't find 1.40 (probably using the search wrong)

Got the CustomRUU (is there another one I should be using?) and tried to update the SPL.. it sits there for a while, sticking at 0% like some of the other guys, then I get a connection Error 262.

To recap:

1) I tried HardSPL 1.38 Olinex signed.. and 1.24mfg is there another I should try?
3) The RUU reports that its updating to "1.00 Diamond" when I use this 1.38 file or 1.0.0.0 when using 1.24, is this correct?
3) Is this Error 262 even related to the version of HardSPL I'm using??
4) The guides and tutorials mention unzipping the SPL .nbh file to any folder, but the RUU can't find the file unless its in the same folder - is this correct?

Thanks in advance, I know others have asked these questions but the answers are very spread out and not all relate to the same problem

tigerboy1,

That is exactly what I have been trying to achieve for the last few days. I have the same issue as reported previously in this thread that attempts to do DiamonCustomRUU or ROM are met with spectacular inaction.

I successfully did the Hard-SPL with OliNex, but running another upgrade just gets me to the grey screen where the percentage sits a 0% for ever. the upgrade GUI eventually times out, and removing power gives a graceful recovery (thank god)!

Did you need to remove SIMlock first, cos I got the impression that wasn't required?

Mine is a UK Orange P3700 with 1.37.405.1 WWE ROM, radio 1.00.25.03. Performance is poor, phone is poor, TFLO 3D is slow, battery life is a joke and you could fry eggs on the back cover. I'd go back to my Artemis with Touch 4.02 ROM if it wasn't for the bust screen sensors!

No, I actually really like this little brick, but I need it to work! Can anyone advise how to get my Diamond upgraded please? When I did the Artemis upgrades I had to work much harder at working out what to do and didn't have the great tutorial that is there for Diamond (thanks for that). But it worked in the end and I progressed through several ROMs. I've maybe been overconfident and missed a step, but I don't think so.

Preguntas:

Hi

I'm trying to install Unsigned HardSPL 1.40 but I get a connection error. The phone is all synced up.

I get a message-box on the phone giving me two choices to alow or not alow the application to run on my phone.

Should I press yes or what? The guide say I should touch nothing!

Anything else that can be wrong?

Edit:
Saw the other guide and did press yes! ;)

All worked fine but it made a hard reset or something as well.

And how in the name of jesus do I exit the bootloaderscreen? Did take out the batery last time.

Edit2:
Did press the reset button and it worked fine.

Last question:
How do I test if the screen is working properly?
I think the screen flicker a bit.

Where can I find info on how to solve this problem?

HAS BEEN SOLVED.
Hi,

Because since hardSPL is flashed none of other SPL would flash on top.
It produces 1.40 OliNex at bootloader screen.

I have the same problem as posted by Srpinteroze on the 2nd of Sept.
I unsim-locked my diamond with Olipro unlocker a couple onf weeks ago. It worked perfectly. I have a French version from Bouygues Telecom.
I tryed yesterday to download and install the new 1.93 Rom update from HTC, with my SN. Everything seems to work at the beginning, but when the progress bar appears, the installer always stays at 0%, and finally pops-up an error message 'unable to connect to the phone'.
I posted this question in the unlocker thread, and they told me this must be a HardSPL problem. Could anybody help?

UPDATE 19-09-2008 :
I upgraded the Hard-spool from 1.30Olinex to 1.40Olinex, and I was then able to install the new 1.93 Rom update from HTC. Everything now works fine.

I can't run a single HardSPL on this phone for some reason. The 1.4olinex freezes my phone up everytime when it tries to load up the window asking if I want to install this. It just gets stuck on the color wheel trying to spin.

The jockyw 1.23 1.24 and 1.34 don't work under the cmd prompt in Vista, and when tried on XP it gets to the place where I hit continue on my phone and it freezes up as well.

I'm currently running the Diamond on Sprint Network hoping to get a new ROM from a Vista computer.

One thought - it seems this thread includes both GSM and CDMA ROMS - you might want to put a strong warning that someone needs to verify that the ROM they are about to use to upgrade is the correct one. I've heard there's risk of bricking if someone tries to flash the wrong one (but I'm too much of an ignorant newbie to know whether this is true).

By the time this tutorial was written, there was no CDMA version.
So, as for the rate of success with the CDMA version, both HardSPL and Radio/ROM, I can not comment on it! Act at your own risk!

i'm helping my friend upgrade his diamond...
i personally use Titan and it doesn't have this many SPLs...
on the diamond...the bootloader says these:

DIAM100 MFG 64M
SPL-1.24.Hard
MicroP-Diam (LED) v11
PSOC-Diam STAGE_PVT v0x30

What confuses me is the word "hard"...so...meaning it already has HSPL...but it seems to not have olinex at the end..
sorry im new to the diamond
should I just go ahead and upgrade to olinex's developer HSPL?

Gonna do my 100th flash or so (exagerating a bit) , but I want to flash the rom and radio in same time as new approach.
Never done it and even not know if it is OK not to brick the device:

Plan to run the RUU and put the Rom AND seperated radio .nbh in same file...
What will happen? Anyone tried if both will be flashed respectively- or is it still required to flash them each apart?

Could not find such an answer in any flashing guide... strange :o

So, it's been made the hard-spl already right? I wish to flash with an official rom from Diamond, is there any problem to flash with this one? RUU_Diamond_HTC_PTG_1.93.410.3_Radio_Signed_Diamon d_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe

Please don't flame me guys, I've searched and read the U/G threads and TUTs for several days before asking this question.

Expert considered opinion please

How risky is it to U/G my radio ROM without HardSPL, I don't really want to HR to install HardSPL unless *absolutely* necessary.

I have 1.00.25.05 and I want to try 1.00.25.BS14 to see whether it improves GPS fix times as reported.

Thanks

EDIT: Read the TUT again (and again) and figured that I had no choice, I *had* to U/G to HardSPL before I could flash new radio anyway DOHH!!
All done and working well, thanks

I have followed the tutorial to the letter and very successfully. I have only done the Hard-SPL and the Radio.

There seems to be an issue with the screen, the same as BlueTwo mention a fews pages ago. After hard reset it seems to flicker for a few minutes, then seems to calm down and stop.

Anyone else noticed this?

mine is flickering all the time and I cant change the SPL from spl-1.40.olinex am I being stupid here how do I change to another SPL? I have tried running another it gets to the bar and flips from 0 - 100% but it has done nothing and left the old spl on...

I have tried to find SSPLManual.exe but can't as I can't see it, i could be looking in the wrong place? when I put the device into stand by and back on this stops the flickering, but I would like to know how I can change my SPL again.

Good instructions though, fist time in 6 years I have had problems flashing :( must be age now!

I have the radio and the rom I want so if you know how to solve the SSPL or SPL flickering problem please inform me

Any ideas

I have searched but not found an answer that puts my mind at ease, my Diamond is already sim-free as std so I assume that this means it has no CID lock on it as it was marketed for all operators.

guys im sorry if ill sound stupid here but this is my first flash and i want to make sure of everything not to brick my device...
i have HTC diamond which has russian ROM and upgraded to the last ROM version from the official HTC website using the official serial number.
the ROM version is 1.93.411.2 RUS
radio version 1.00.25.05
i want to change to an english interface...
so ill have to
1-download and install the OliNex Unsigned Hard-SPL (Developers Edition)
2-download and install the radio (ill stick to the 1.00.25.05 Version)
3-now about choosing the ROM version....
can i chose ANY WWE ROM version or there are special ones that will work with the Hard-SPL version i used up there??:confused::eek:
im a little bet confused about this point...
also if i choose a radio signed version do i still have to go for step 2 or not??
thanks for your help

Thanks mirror0, I tried as your information, but nothing happens, no lights is turn on, only the back side of the device heats up little bit, but there is no communication between PC and Diamond.

Anny idea?

any idea? I am also curious how to fix a diamond in case like failed rom upgrade?

how do I connect it with active sync if the rom failed to be installed????

failed installing rom means the OS is broken right? broken OS means no active sync? so how to fix it??

Newbie here to ROM's, i have had my Vodafone UK Touch Diamond a few months now, at home and work i get such a weak signal and i am hoping a radio flash will solve this for me, can anyone confirm if they have done a Flash on a UK Voda Diamond?

Also can anyone advise what are the best ROM/Radio/HardSPL to use on UK Diamond.

Greatly Appreciated

Yo, I just changed from P3600i too... Try to follow racerx_ method too (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=404270). I just both concurrently.

1. I stuck at the most is getting Ver 1.40. I finally got it by forum searching. Get the unsigned development version. Also see Troubleshooting post. Very good direction.

2. Selecting a rom! My gosh, as tnyynt suggested, moving from a Trinity forum is crazy adoption step! So many roms to choose from!

I have spend whole night and got it all worked out! Thank you for the excellent guide.

I've upgraded my diamond to Syrius Beta 3 and everything worked ok for a week or so.

But since last night it wont go past the bootscreen wich says TOUCHDiamond and all the radio/rom info.
I thought of a hard reset, but I have couple of messages that I want to keep since my last backup friday.

So is there any way I could still boot into windows mobile?

Problem:

Just installed Hard-SPL from OliNex. After reset (hard-reset), the image on display glimmers! Sometimes more, sometimes less or not at all, but it does. I've later installed Duty's ROM, and I'm planning to install higher radio which will hopefully correct this mistake.

Anyone else had this problem?

Current versions:
ROM: Duttys V3.1 WWE
ROM Date: 19/11/08

Hi all

have just updated rom to Dutty's 3.4V. everything is working fine but on one problem. my screen does not align correctly. Have done the screen align but for some reason does not save settings as, as soon as the screen align has completed it works fine for about 5 minutes then it all goes crazy e.g. everything on right side of screen does not work I tap on number 9 for some reason 7 comes up as I can see 7 flash as if it has been pressed, same with number 3 and 6. also if in a program and need to click on ok which is found top right side of screen then start menue pops up. I will then do the align screen again works again for a couple of minutes then it goes mad again. have tried a couple of different rom but keep getting same problem. have even tried the official orange rom.

Please help

Im trying to do the HardSPL

1. Download OliNex Unsigned Hard-SPL (Developers Edition) from here;
2. Unzip the files from the archive to any new folder;
3. Run the executable (in most cases it is ROMUpdateUtility.exe, but it also can be ROM.exe or any other name, recognize it by the icon);
4. If you understand the caution and risks, check the box and click Next;
5. Read carefully and follow all directions;
6. If you completed all steps indicated, check the box and click Next;
7. Next screen will show current version on device and by clicking Update you will see the version to be flashed;
8. Click Next when ready;

But after step 8 I get an error 202: CONNECTION. The updateutility cannot connect to your PDA Phone .. etc.

I have an active sync connection (just synced the phone), I can browse to my phone memory and card using Explorer, so I assume my connection is perfectly working.
I am using Windows Vista. My phone is version 1.93.404.1.

Any tips? Perhaps I should do a hard reset first?

edit: a normal hard reset first doesn't help, still the same error :'(

I bought my new Vodafone Touch Diamond about two weeks back. I'm using it in Sri Lanka and I had no problems like network locks. It cost me a lot & I dont wanna brick it.

I was using a HIMALAYA (I-MATE POCKET PC) for three years and i never had to use Hard-SPLs. I read the first post & it said I have to upgrade the SPL to HARD-SPL before upgrading the radio ROM. it recomends the unsigned 1.40 version. But what is available in the thread are version 1.37 , 1.38 , 1.93.
Also elsewhere it is recommended to use signed versions & this recommends the unsigned.

Can someone please guide me. And is it worthy to upgrade to 1.00.25.05 from the original 1.00.25.03? Does it improve the battery life up to a significant level? Does it improve the HSDPA reception & heating the device on calls? If the SPL upgrade fails in the middle due to a Power Failure, is it possible to re-upgrade? Or will it brick my device forever?

I've found out the hard way that the Custom Update Utilitity (RUU) crashes when you try to run it from a network drive. I thought it was an O/S issue, but it turns out it just doesn't work over the network, even on network mounted drives.

Hello people,

MikeEx told me this @ PPCGeeks:

You will brick your phone if you use anything from this site.
This sub-forum is for "CDMA" phones only.
Vodafone is a "GSM" phone.

Avoid using any ROMS or Unlockers from THIS site.

But then I question myself, what ROMs are available for a Vodafone GSM phone.

I'm not asking for the best one, just a small push in the right direction.

Thank you!

Ht, because im new here, and i asked several questions and asked for help but no one replied to me to help unlock my diamond...bugt one, and payed for unlocking..
bytheway...it runs very slow and freezes 5-6 times a day...i set down and red this forum, i found that i should update my rom, radio etc...i decided for swiftBL Rom v 7,5, radio 1,09,25,23 i downloaded OliNex Unsigned Hard-SP...i know i have to hard reset after installing this stuff...so, may the forces be with me, hope everything gonna be ok....i will follow the instructions given here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211 ..and will post after updating...

the hell is that...first the device lost the contact with the cable, but i didnt touch it...crap..then i went out when the proces started, when i came back after 2-3 minutes it was finished, the diamond asked me something, i think the there is an unsigned application or i cannot remember, now the device restarted and it installs the windows..oh my godness, it is much faster than earlier..oh, i forgot to say one of my friends put hungarian language in the device..now it is lost, but the device works fine...i will try it onemore time...then im goind to sleep...:mad::mad:

and again...i tried ith with a signed version but nothing..simply, when i start updating, in the status bar is on 0%, then the device write me this message:
"the program is from an unknow publisher..." etc and asks at the end yes or now, i think it was to proceed or whatewer. if i tap on yes, on the computer the status bar of updating skips on 100%, then my device restarts but nothing happens...it begins to install winmobile and thats that. If i dont click on the device on the yes button, the program in the pc says check the cable connection and a few more things...and, every time, when i try to update, when these craps begin to eat me, the activesynch connection losts...:mad::mad: oh, what should i do...

Hi,

I have a UK T-Mobile MDA COMPACT IV which is I think is also known as Touch Diamond which I use in the United States, my phone has the sim card in it.

Would I be able to upgrade my phone or is this HardSPL+Radio+Rom not intended for my phone?

I am a newbbie to this and I want to have a better performance on my phone. when going into messages, camera ect.......it lags a little bit and when I charge it, it also becomes hot or when I am using it alot. Also People have tried calling me or I have a lot of dropped calls. Could that be from the Radio version that I have?

Also when receiving mms pictures they are very small even though I change the settings to original or larger.

When I go into Device Information this is what it says:

ROM version: 1.37.110.3 WWE
Radio Version: 1.20.OliNex
Protocol version: 52.26a.25.09U

Bottom line is Will this improve everything that I mentioned and Am I able to use these on my phone?

Thanks!!!!!

MY SUGGESTION:

-before you start flashing etc, FIRST YOU MUST HAVE Service Pack3 on your computer. when I installed it, I mdae this upgrading guide without any problems.

first upgraded to HardSPL.
Then FLASHED.
I had the radio version what i wanted, so i didnt changed the radio version.

This is my first ROM flash on my Diamond...:o

Can somone please explain which option I should press (and what option 2 means - I can't remember the exact wording) when doing a hard reset after flashing a ROM, I get 3 option asking me to...

1) Press volume key up to restore factory setting.

2) Press volume key down to restore factory setting and MovI??? -I think this means to clear the internal memory too.

3) Press any key to abort the reset process.

I'm sorry if I'm being a nobe, I didn't find anything on this thread about this.

Hi

I have T-Mobile MDA Compact IV (unlocked) and I'm trying to to flash "Unsigned-Hard-SPL-Diamond-OliNex".

1. While I'm opening RUU it shows my current Rom, then it shows version that I'm upgrading for, and when I press next it stops on 0%...and it says later that my mobile is not connected... :(:(:(

Please any help...Rom provided by T-mobile is boring...and I'd love to change it....

Thanks very much for this easy to follow guide. I have never flashed a phone before but hated the T-Mobile pink and white on my Compact IV! I followed every step of the guide and everything went smoothly apart from the radio update where the Windows program kept crashing. I tried it on different PC and it worked, the only thing I can think that may cause this problem is XP Service Pack 3 on the PC that did NOT work.

I have been happily on 1.40 Onlinex on my XDA Ignito for some months and have flashed many roms (Aztor, Dutty, Shaks, Panoosha etc) but am now trying to security unlock my phone but keep getting errors in the process.

After much searching to trya nd sort these errors myself I thought I would follow the instructions here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3144061&postcount=384) and see if changing my SPL version might help but I can't seem to install any other SPL on my phone.

When I perform the SPL updates (treid 1.37 unsigned, 1.93 etc) it looks like it has worked fine as it ogoes to 100% and reset the phone but if I go into the bootloader screen I am still left with Olinex 1.40 ???

On my bootloader screen I have the following if this helps?

DIAM300 MFG 64M
SPL-140.Olinex
MicroP-Diam (LED) v11
PSOC-Diam STAGE_PVT v0x32

hello, i have sucesfullt upgraded my diamond, but now i have a qouestion about the steps of complete uprgading and unlocking the DIAMOND.

1) if the device is SIM locked (in my country it can be locked in 2ways: use just one network where you bought the phone and at the and of mont, you have to pay the telepfhone bill, and the second is when the phone locked to one sim card but u can buy credit for the card whenever you want) I HAVE to pm Olipro to give me the SIM unlocker, Will it work whatevere is the device locked like i wrote at first example and second?

2) Then i have to hardspl
3)Then to upgrade the ROM
4)Then the Radio

after this can i use the phone with any sim cards to use any network? This is very important for me, im interested in upgrading and unlockin too, jut dont know is the unlocker working realy, or just at the version when you dont have the billing?

The SimUnlocker is responsible for unlocking your Sim Card so that you can use it with any GSM network in the world.

Unlocking your sim hasn't nothing to do with billing.....
I personally would Hard SPL my device as the starting point.

Hard SPL is to protect your phone when you decide to upgrade your ROM & Radio
Please Read The Stickies to get some basics knowledge under your belt before moving on....

i understood that..but if you read carefullty my post, i asked that first a must have a simunlocker. I asked it because diamonds with example vodafone nework and exactitude statement is half priced than network free diamonds...thats why i answered if the unlocker will solve this problem, to have netw.free pda, and will be able later the voda to brick down the phone because of unlocking....

I'm trying to understand here..... The simple thing you need to know is that by Simunlocking your phone.....then, YOU CAN USE ANY GSM NETWORK WITHOUT A PROBLEM....by the way, that's not me yelling, it's me highlighting what's important.

Now depending on method of SimUnlocking your phone can led to bricking. IF you are given a code to unlock, then no bricking but there other way requires you to HARD SPL your device.

Not sure if that was any different then my first post but there you have it...

Hi Guys,

My phone says it has:
SPL - 1.40.Olinex so have i now got HARDSPL installed ok on it?

Also, I have:
Rom: 1.37.110.3 WWE
Radio: 1.20.Olinex

So the next question is should i update the radio to 1.00.25.5, will it benefit me?

The main reason I ask is i am having probs send txtxs. Have a new SIM but txts just sit in the outbox. So wondered if this would help?

Well first off your 1.20 Olinex is generally used for Unlocking so yeah, flashing 1.00.25.5 Radio would be better for battery life and reception but not sure regarding the sending of txt. Try the Radio first and see. If not, reply back. It might be Connection Setup issue.

HI Guys,
I brought a o2 XDA diamond recently, and surprised to see only German Language support on WM 6.1 Os that it has originally flashed.
It seems that HTC supprt also cant help neither the o2 customer care to change the language to English.
As i dont know German, i am finding it very difficult to use.
I desperately want to change to English user interface. However iam afraid of breaking my device completely.
My device is having following specs

OS: WM 6.1 proffesional
CE OS 5.2.19965(Build 19965.1.2.3)
ROM version : 1.93.207.2 GER
ROM Date:8/12/08
Radio: 1.00.25.05
protocol: 52.29.25.12H
Model nr: xda_diamond
Platform:pocketPC

I saw many threads on ROM development and followed following procedure.

1. upgraded to Hald SPL by following instruction from http://www.modmydiamond.info/, now my bootloader shows.

Red
diam300 mfg 64M
SPL-1.40.oliNex
MicroP-diam (LED) v11

Green
PSOC -diam STAGE_PVT v0x32

After this step when i tried to update the ROM by using the RUU from,
RUU_Diamond_HTC_Europe_1.93.401.2_Radio_Signed_Dia mond_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe
and
RUU_Diamond_HTC_WWE-ME_1.93.456.2_Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.29.25.12_1.0 0.25.05_Ship.exe

I get following error:
244 : Invalid device ID

And i am unable to update any ROM.

Could anyone from this expert forum please help me? I have following basic questions.
1.Whats wrong with my update process?
2. Which RUU to use to switch to english version?
3. How to get rid of eror 244 Invalid device id?

Request you to please help me out!

Hi, Thanks for the reply it's really is much appreciated. I bricked a phone of mine about 18 months ago so really being very cautious.

Before I flash the phone, When i run DiamonCustomRUU it tell me the old ROM is 1.47.110.3 and it will be replaced by 1.00.25.5 so is this correct?

sorry meant 1.37.110.3 WWE

So, as for the rate of success with the CDMA version, both HardSPL and Radio/ROM, I can not comment on it! Act at your own risk!

So i am hosed? I have Sprint and I am pretty sure its CDMA...

Hey guys i am a bit of a noob when it comes to custom roms etc so please bear with me!
so i had been trying to load a custom ROM (MIGHTY ROM) to my diamond with no great success then i read on one of the forums that i should use Olinex 1.37 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...63&postcount=2) first before i would be able to load the custom ROM's.. anyway i followed the usual process and it seemed to install the Olinex rom ok (or so the updater said).
So i moved back onto installing MIGHTY Rom which also seemed to follow the process with no problems up to the installation has been successfully completed part at which point my diamond did its reset as expected only this time it got stuck on the first black screen that just says "touch Ddiamond" and no red writing in the bottom right like i used to get.
Have i completely bricked my phone??
TIA
worth mentioning i have tried a hard reset and it seems to go through the process but i end up stuck on the same first screen

Hi,
After some searching and a lot of reading (many thanks to pof and all other gurus here in xda !!) I managed to understand some more things about "cooking"... but beeing a noob (the first task I am trying to do is "full-backuping" my actual ROM - SPL, RAW files, etc. - to be able to "downgrade" for any reason !) I have the following "stupid" question (but as staten somewhere here in xda "there are no stupid questions..."):

Details of phone/ROM/SPL/etc.:

Infos from NBHextract:
Device: DIAM10000
CID: HTC__405
Version: 2.03.408.2
Language: ITA

Actual SPL screen:
Security Unlocked
Diam100 64M
SPL 2.03.0000
MicroP-Diam(LED) v10
PSoc-Diam Stage-out v0x23

Actual ROM:
RUU_Diamond_HTC_ITA_2.03.408.2_Radio_Signed_Diamon d_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23_Ship.exe
(Here is the LINK (http://www.mediafire.com/?nvkomdmwjkb).)

Previous ROM:
RUU_Diamond_HTC_ITA_1.93.408.3_Radio_Signed_Diamon d_52.29.25.12_1.00.25.05_Ship.exe

Original ROM:
Actually I don't know... just updated to 1.93...

Note: In the HTC site, after inserting my product code, there are NO updates available for my phone... I downloaded them from here...

Question: What does the "Security Unlocked" string I see in the SPL screen means ??
Note: Actually I did not have any problem in upgrading, but I still don't know how to check the CID in the device... so I may only have downloaded the proper files...

If usefull, as I don't see it in the stock ROM list, I attached here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=160496&d=1235484123) the dumped stock Diamond SPL version 2.03.0000.

Thanks !

The Diamond is by default GPS enabled. To use GPS, you need a APP to run it. Example: Tomtom, GPS Tools, etc.

Put device into bootloader Mode (soft reset + Vol. Down). You should get the rainbow coloured screen. THen plug device into pc and you should see USB at the bottom. Then flash again using the RUU_exe. file

The application failed to initalize properly (0xc0000135)

Do it using Internal Storage way:

Step 1:
Get your Diamond_radio_1.00.25.05.nbh file and change it to DIAMIMG.nbh then place this file in your devices Internal Storage 4G.

Step 2:
Soft Reset then immediately press Vol. Down + Back Arrow (Don't let go until you see a grey screen)

Step 3: Press Power Button to Flash Radio.

Done! Same method can be used for ROMs as well. Don't forget to Hard Reset devices with ROMs especially. Radio's work fine with out a hard reset.

OK, so i've done as much research as i can possibly stand now i need to ask questions. first, im running Vista, sucks i know but it was the only option. Seconds my Diamond is one the spl 1.95 from att. i've tried to flash the hard spl onto my device about 10 times and am lucky i haven't bricked my phone yet because it never gets anywhere. Every time whether it is in boot loader mode(tri color scren) or complete sync with the pc it always says theres a connection problem. ALWAYS!! i don't really know whats causing this error, ive tried messing with a variety of things on the pc to try and get it not to disconnect but no luck. (this includes turning the virus scanner off) anyways has any one heard of this problem before, if so could you help please? :(

and second where can i get the stock manila? because every time i have to do a hard reset i have to yank the bat during the customizing proicess just so i can have the best feature of this phone.

so ya, can anyone help me? im so lost!!!:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Seconds my Diamond is one the spl 1.95 from att. i've tried to flash the hard spl onto my device about 10 times and am lucky i haven't bricked my phone yet because it never gets anywhere. Every time whether it is in boot loader mode(tri color scren) or complete sync with the pc it always says theres a connection problem. ALWAYS!! i don't really know whats causing this error, ive tried messing with a variety of things on the pc to try and get it not to disconnect but no luck. (this includes turning the virus scanner off) anyways has any one heard of this problem before, if so could you help please?

so ya, can anyone help me? im so lost!!!:confused::confused::confused::confused:

Before connecting the device into pc, make sure that you do the following:

1) Go to Start>Settings>Connections>USB to Pc : Disable any boxes that speck about; Faster data synchronization or Advanced connections, etc.

2) Go to Vista's Version of active sycn and find the connections settings; here don't allow USB connections.

Now put into bootloader mode first then connect to PC....u should see USB at the bottom of rainbow screen. IF So, commence with the RUU_ process

After you can restore step 2's settings for the purpose of syncing your device to the pc.

Good Luck!

I'm a bit confused, is the point of installing an OliNex Unsigned Hard-SPL supposed to let me flash any ROM I choose? I tried to run the official HTC ROM via exe and it fails to update after 1%?

The only way I can update is extracting the .nbh file.

Hi, I am a newbie here.
Much appreciated for all the great works!

I have updated to Olinex 1.38 signed SPL. I have checked the version by soft reset, and confirmed success.
Then I tried to update the Radio to 1.00.25.05, but never succeed.
I followed the instruction in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=416211 , but just not able to have Radio installed.

I get 0% on my PC and on 0% progress on my diamond, and it stays at 0% until I get instruction in the RUU to take out the battery and restart the device.

Of course I did hard reset, but still no luck. I also tried with Olinex non-signed 1.30 SPL, but exactly the same problem when trying to update the Radio. Also I tried to skip installing Radio and went for Dutty's ROM, but same symptom!

I am stuck.. Can anyone please help me? What am I doing wrong?

PC is Windows Vista Home premium.
Diamond is from Vodafone Netherlands.

Regards,

Ken :confused::confused:

I have tried to update to 1.34 SPL as that is what's suggested by Dutty. But I am faced with the same 0% & 0% problem with that SPL !
It seems like I can only change between Olinex SPL now.. I don't get it..

for some radioes the device has to be security unlocked. if you are flashing a nondiamond radio i am sure this is your problem. check the wiki.

The Radio I have now is 1.00.25.03. I want to update to 25.05.
Security unlocked, you mean SIM unlock? If not, how do I do that?
I don't know where wiki is..

sim unlock and security unlock are different read here--->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3159018&postcount=3.

the radio you are trying to flash is a diamond radio so security unlock should not be necessary. you only need to do this for flashing a radio from touch pro, hd etc... read a little in the link i provided.

I read here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409425

and as suggested, looked for developer edition SPL.
I found 1.93 Onelix here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2312363&postcount=2

installed. Then Radio which I mentioned earlier was installed successfully.
Now I am almost 50% done with Dutty's ROM!

It's my first time to update to cooked ROM, so I am quite excited.
Hope there won't be any issue with it!

Thank you for your tips!

Ken:)

Dutty was a great diamond rom cooker and i have use his last rom before he moved on to the HD. you should not have any problems with that rom. some of the newer ones from other cooks are also great with some speed inprovments along with newer applications. good luck to you with flashing, xda is a great place to learn!!!

thanks for your help, unfortunately it didn't work, the error/recovery message appeared. I couldnt find the place in vista to change any settings for the active sync, i just closed all the programs for it and made sure any syncing was turned off. I did get the usb at the bottom of the bootloader screen, however it never made any progress past 0% like before.

any other ideas?

Hey,
I have tried using this guide, and always have the same problem: An Error [202]: Connection Error

1. Download OliNex Unsigned Hard-SPL (Developers Edition) from here;
2. Unzip the files from the archive to any new folder;
3. Run the executable (in most cases it is ROMUpdateUtility.exe, but it also can be ROM.exe or any other name, recognize it by the icon);
4. If you understand the caution and risks, check the box and click Next;
5. Read carefully and follow all directions;
6. If you completed all steps indicated, check the box and click Next;
7. Next screen will show current version on device and by clicking Update you will see the version to be flashed;
8. Click Next when ready;

The device is connected with ActiveSync, I can browse the contents of the phone, the ActiveSync symbol in the task bar is green and at step 7 it shows my current Rom version.

Then when I click Next (step 8) my phone does nothing. No ask for confirmation, no black screen, and the progress bar on the computer stays at 0% and the Error [202] message appears shortly after.

Replies #67, #156, #173 and #175 also seem to be having the same problem. I have tried installing NetFramework 3.5 as suggested in #177 but this has not solved the problem.

Is there any one who is able to help, and offer any advice please? Thanks in advance.

Regards,

MBGM8

Ok, I tried running this from my old laptop and it seems to have worked a treat. I am not sure why it didn't work from my PC as both are running XP and both have the same connection settings etc. Now just need to find a good ROM!!

Hi,

Could somebody tell me if 1.93 is the latest Hard-SPL version available for HTC Touch Diamond or are there some newer ones?
Are these (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722) Hard-SPLs to be used with HTC Touch Diamond (e.g. Hard-SPL-2.10)?

Absolutely NOT, those for the hermes device. I have HARD SPL 1.93 . Not aware of any new ones. It's the one most of us here are using. SPL's versions don't have to match Hard SPL versions.

Sorry for the stupid question, but I was wondering something.
I know it is very recommended to hard-reset after flashing a ROM, how about flashing a Radio? Also recommended to hard-reset after, or not really necessary? Will be flashing a Radio first time today ^^

Edit: nvm, Sorry!
I somehow missed this post when reading through earlier:

Do it using Internal Storage way:

Step 1:
Get your Diamond_radio_1.00.25.05.nbh file and change it to DIAMIMG.nbh then place this file in your devices Internal Storage 4G.

Step 2:
Soft Reset then immediately press Vol. Down + Back Arrow (Don't let go until you see a grey screen)

Step 3: Press Power Button to Flash Radio.

Done! Same method can be used for ROMs as well. Don't forget to Hard Reset devices with ROMs especially. Radio's work fine with out a hard reset.

Guess Ill be fine without one then :) That's a relief

Hello,

I already asked this more or less in an own thread, however this seems to be somhow ignored, so I hope to get more answers here :).

First of all do open/non-locked Diamonds also need the HardSPL or can they be flashed with their default SPL as well?

Secondly, if the former is possible - respectively after having installed the "modified" SPL (HardSPL) - can all ROMs be installed from the internal memory as described in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=3483045&postcount=229?

As far as I have read, the radio drivers are not necessarily part of a new ROM but often need to be installed manually (why, out of curiosity?). Would this be like a regular ROM upgrade and can be done from the internal memory too or is it different?

Thanks.

All devices need a Hard SPL if you're going to flash ROMs and Radios regardless of their Locked or unLocked status.

ROMs often are created without the Radio included because Radios are a user preference.

Both ROMs and Radios can be flashed internally. As mentioned in my pervious post, Roms must be Hard Reset after the initial install while radios don't have too.

These are not consider Regular Rom upgrades but rather Cooked Roms which are faster & customized beyond a regular ROM....

Hi Guys, great guide.

I installed the Hard SPL as instructed in page 1, as I intend to put on the newest official ROM. In boatloader it shows its installed. However, after the new HardSPL was installed (which seemed to install very quick :confused:) the bettery will now only last a rediculous 6 ish hours! Without any use!

Do I need to install a new ROM to fix this? My bettery was about 60% charged when the new SPL was installed, after it showed 100% :confused:

Im currently on : -
Rom version - 1.93.405.1 WWE
Rom Date 08/06/08
Radio Version - 1.00.25.03

What the newest officail ROM I can install?

Thanks for any help as Im having to charge all day :(:(

All devices need a Hard SPL if you're going to flash ROMs and Radios regardless of their Locked or unLocked status.
So the default SPL always verifies the vendor ID, making the modified SPL always necessary?!

A side question, apart for the signed/unsigned checks why are there different HardSPLs out there? Shouldnt they all do the same like the original SPL without the vendor ID checking?

ROMs often are created without the Radio included because Radios are a user preference.
Is there a reason why they can be a user preference, wouldnt the latest version always be the recommended one?

Both ROMs and Radios can be flashed internally.
Thanks, good to hear, so basically only for flashing the SPL one needs ActiveSync, or can this be done via the internal memory as well?

As mentioned in my pervious post, Roms must be Hard Reset after the initial install while radios don't have too.
This is something I have been always confused about. What exactly is a hard reset? A soft reset is a simple reboot AFAIK, I always thought a hard reset is a reboot not by software but by powering off and on. But then it seems a hard reset is rather bringing the system back to the original ROM installation. So two similar terms mean different things (soft = reboot, hard = resetting the system itself), is this correct?

Thanks very much.

Modifiying your SPL is only necessary if you plain to Flash Radio's & Roms. Not necessary for most Apps. There are different Hard SPL's out there because Idealistically it is recommended to match your original SPL but many are realizing that that is not necessary the case. So when possible try to match your original SPL, if it doesn't exist then use the latest one.

Is there a reason why they can be a user preference, wouldnt the latest version always be the recommended one?

No...not all the time. Radio's don't work like that. Some radio's work best in different areas. It's best to test at least the 5 most popular ones in your around to finalize a choice.

Thanks, good to hear, so basically only for flashing the SPL one needs ActiveSync, or can this be done via the internal memory as well?

For Hard SPL......active sync is required. Flashing Radio's and ROM's are recommend by the Internal way.

This is something I have been always confused about. What exactly is a hard reset? A soft reset is a simple reboot AFAIK, I always thought a hard reset is a reboot not by software but by powering off and on. Yes, a hard reset is bring the device back to it's manufactures default....Correct!

Several ways to perform a hard reset. (here is one way)
Start>Settings>System>Clear Storage (clear storage only=devices main storage. Not 4GB internal storage)
